Richmond may park cash underground Michael Warner

June 08, 2012RICHMOND'S Punt Rd Oval has been earmarked as the site for a giant underground carpark.
The Tigers have had preliminary discussions about the project with Victoria's urban renewal authority, Places Victoria.
Richmond Station is set to undergo a multi-million-dollar revamp with plans for residential and office towers in the Brunton Ave precinct.
One idea would see a carpark built beneath Richmond's training ground with the Tigers sharing in the operating profits.
But Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale said the development could be years away.
"There's a multi-faceted development of Richmond Station being considered - commercial, retail and residential - and a carparking solution might be a part of that," Gale said.
"But that's got to require a full-blown feasibility study and they've got to get the funding for that.
"It's highly speculative at this stage.
"These things take years, but we've got a responsibility to consider it."
The Tigers will begin work on a $1.9 million redevelopment of the Punt Rd Oval surface later this month, leaving players seeking a new training venue for the rest of the season.
Gale said the club hoped to play VFL and under-18 football at the ground within five years.
The ground is being reconfigured into an Etihad Stadium-sized oval without the impediment of cricket wickets.
