RICHMOND looks to have secured a trade for Angus Graham with the 25-year-old today holding talks with Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson with a view to signing on with the Crows.
A deal should be finalised by the weekend with the Crows taking Graham and the Tigers' third round draft pick (No. 50) in return for their second-round pick (No. 40). Adelaide has also indicated it will hand the Tigers the compensation selection it will receive for Chris Knights.
Graham's departure is expected to see Richmond on the lookout for another more mature ruckman to support Ivan Maric with Tyrone Vickery's return next season also bolstering the club's ruck stocks.
Richmond will now go into the National Draft with selections 9, 29, 31 and 40 and has also secured restricted free agent Troy Chaplin from Port along with Knights from the Crows.
The Crows have come under fire from their fans who have bombarded social media over the prospect of trading the out-of-contract Kurt Tippett to the Swans in exchange for Jesse White and Sydney's first-round pick (No. 22). That deal has not yet been finalised.

Probably 3rd after their 3rd. Which would be low 60's. If it's an end of 2nd rounder it's mid 40's. ;D

We should offer to pay double for one of the most philanthropic, benevolent gestures ever seen in the AFL at trade time. I'm not a religious person but my Lord will be getting an extra big hug and thank you from me at bedtime prayers tonight!

what was he trying to do when he missed the mark?
His confidence when marking was shot over the last couple of years (it seemed to correspond with his return after doing his ankle). I remember watching training in the dugout on the wing at Victoria Park about 2-3 years ago and the ruck coach at the time was testing Gus with high balls. He dropped about half of them. It was like watching auskick and Gus trying to learn how to mark all over again from scratch :-\. If you saw the last Coburg game this year on tv you'd remember Gus dropping a sitter in the defensive goalsquare that gifted I think Box Hill a goal. In the end Gus couldn't kick, mark or get off the ground in the ruck. If Adelaide think they can turn all those fundamental deficiencies around then good luck to them. They're gonna need it!

yep its good to have a chukle at other clubs but the reality is adelaide were not going to use pick 40 they wont use pick 50.
they are at logger heads with sydney over tippett. they will let tippett go into the nd/psd imo. syd offered up white and pick 22 now thats pretty insulting. they just took a bloke who will give more than white in the ruck and said to sydney offer something decent or you dont get him. well thats my theory anyway.
still the reality is they wont use pick 50 i wonder if we can offer them matt white or jacko for it.

Didn't he average 5 contested marks per game for Coburg? You can't just use one example of him dropping a mark in a game. Be fair.
Adelaide are a much better club than Richmond. Obviously they have done their homework. Gus can be a solid backup option

Adelaide a better club than us? :huh
This is the same club that traded away an end of first round compo pick for Tambling and then gave up Maric for pick 37 in return.
On-field yep they finished above us and in the top 4 but they had a soft draw playing GWS, GC and Port twice. Only 5 of their 17 wins were against top 8 sides.
Gus averaged 2 contested marks per game in the VFL this year and 5 marks per game in total. Stats wise on its own not terrible but watching the games it's the high ball ones that he struggles mainly with though. Add to that his ruckwork especially at centre bounces has been tragic to watch as shown in that youtube clip. He doesn't use that big frame he has - he's either jumping miles early and giving away stupid frees or tapping/palming the ball to where the opposition wants the ball to go to.
-
I really hope we trade Jackson to the Saints this year, like is rumoured. I know he's under contract, but he becomes an unrestricted free agent next year. We'd get stuff all for him.

Adelaide will just have to take whats on offer or get nothing, otherwise it is skin of their nose to spite their face.
I read the other day that sydney are offering 4mil over 4 years for tippett, so all he has to do is put that price on his head and nominate for the PSD. It's unlikely anyone else can afford to pay that so Sydney will still get him.
Adelaide would be better off with pick 22 than nothing.

He's still in our best 22 (amazingly) but can't just get rid of a best 22 player for the sake of it.

He's still in our best 22 (amazingly) but can't just get rid of a best 22 player for the sake of it.
I don't think he is even close to our best 22 any more to be honest.

19 games suggests otherwise. Even then we need more than 22 players. I'd trade him but only for something worthwhile that we can use. Even if it's a pick upgrade. ie. 43 for a pick around 25.

what was he trying to do when he missed the mark?
Didn't he average 5 contested marks per game for Coburg? You can't just use one example of him dropping a mark in a game. Be fair.
Adelaide are a much better club than Richmond. Obviously they have done their homework. Gus can be a solid backup option
Adelaide a better club than us? :huh
Yep. How many finals have we played in the last 30 years? How many grand finals have we won? How did we go against the Crows last year? I'll start bagging other clubs and arse slapping my Richmond mates when we actually do something decent. 3 years under Hardwick and not once have we come close to finals. Next year is the year. No excuses.
I do arse slap my mates anyway.

Graham wants to be number one
By Harry Thring
Mon 22 Oct, 2012
NEW ADELAIDE recruit Angus Graham has a message for teammate Sam Jacobs: the fight for the number one ruck position is on.
After a season in which Jacobs emerged as one of the AFL's premier big men, topping the League in hit-outs to advantage, most saw Graham's trade to Adelaide a move to fill the back-up ruck role vacated by Kurt Tippett when he expressed desire to join the Sydney Swans.
But the former Richmond ruckman didn't get the memo.
Graham told 5AA radio on Monday afternoon that Jacobs wasn't entitled to the number one ruck position at the club on reputation alone and, if he outperformed him over the pre-season, he would expect to be named at first ruck.
"I've been number one before and I still think I'm a very good player and can take his spot, so I'm not just going to allow him to walk straight in, I'm going to fight over the pre-season and put my best foot forward," Graham said.
"If I'm playing better footy than him I expect to get a game … I'm sure if the coaches think I'm playing better they'll play me."
The 25-year-old managed only one game in 2012, stuck behind former Crow Ivan Maric who was forced out of Adelaide because of a lack of opportunity.
Graham said he hadn't been able to "flourish" under Damien Hardwick's "more defensive" game plan, preferring former coach Terry Wallace and new coach Brenton Sanderson's attacking brand of football.
Pushed from Punt Road, Graham said he hoped he could enjoy a Maric-style rejuvenation at West Lakes.
"Ivan came across (to Richmond) last year because he couldn't get a game and he had a very good season at Richmond which held me out, so it's funny how it swings, but hopefully it works out for me and I can take a jump like Ivan did at Richmond," he said.
"Terry's game style, he sort of told me to go out and play and back me in to run and spread and that sort of stuff comes naturally (to me) and 'Dimma's' a bit more defensive.
"I probably didn't flourish under him as much as I did under Terry.
"[Sanderson] plays two talls at times…'Dimma' was not so (fond) of playing me and Ivan (Maric) in the same team so that excited me a bit."
But the 201cm ruckman who, at 107kg said he was just inside his 105-107kg ideal playing weight, also said he knew it wasn't just Jacobs he'd have to outplay to lock down a position in Adelaide's side.
Josh Jenkins and Shaun McKernan both played in 2012, and Jenkins in particular has been widely tipped to replace Tippett on his own.
The club's inaugural coach Graham Cornes and Port Adelaide great Warren Tredrea even called for him to replace the under-performing Tippett during its finals campaign.
Graham said he wouldn't take anything for granted at Adelaide, but hoped to impress the coaches throughout the summer.
"Nothing's given to you in AFL, I've been around long enough and I've gone through a lot of ups and downs," he said.
"I've got a lot of points to prove.
"(With) Jenkins and McKernan and players like that, I know I'm not guaranteed any spots or anything like that but I'm going there to have a crack, have a pre-season and put my best foot forward.
"I do think my best football is in front of me so I'm just looking to have a big pre-season, impress the coaches and just show them what I've got."

Maybe he could have put up a fight for number one in the back half of '11 when it was pretty public we were looking for a new ruck.
Also, wouldn't see us having a 'more defensive' game plan. Maybe Graham couldn't get a kick because he didn't know the game plan?

And maybe Dimma wasn't "too fond" of playing you because when things didn't go your way you dropped your head and sulked more times than some of us care to remember but I suppose that was Dimma's fault too ;D

He's a ripper bloke, doesn't deserve all the poo he cops. Not sure why blokes hate him so much because he's an average player. I don't see people lining up to take shot after shot at Andrew Browne (who has done a lot less than Goose). I think there's a fine line between criticising a bloke for his ability and then bagging a bloke at every opportunity.

Not disputing he's a good bloke but a good bloke doesn't equal good footballer. As you said he's an average player.
My post was being critical of his effort as a footballer. As I said on the field when things didn't go his way he sulked, dropped his head and as a result of that it meant he would fail to chase, attempt to tackle or simply do the team things.
And perhaps people don't take "pot shots" at Browne because despite any or all of his limitations people didn't walk away from games saying he didn't have a dip or didn't work hard

I was actually having a joke Coach but since you asked..........most are not having a crack at his character. But since when has a football fan's forum not been the place to have your 2c about a player's ability and worth to the club? Jackson, White, Dea, Thursfield, Tambling, Bowden, Johnson are just a few names of recent times that I can recall being known as splendid citizens but didn't stop the fans vitriol towards them and their football output. The thing is for almost all of us on here the only vested interest we have in common is our football club and how it performs, and when a player puts his hand out for payment for his efforts towards that cause then he becomes open to the criticisms just as much as the accolades - it's the nature of the profession. It might not sound fair or be fair but each and every single player is acutely aware of what they are getting themselves in for when they embark on a path of professional sport, especially in the case of football that evokes such intense emotions from the fans. They have the choice to stay or go so when they choose to stay, they choose to accept the whole package for better or worse. So for me personally, like all players that have represented our club, I thank him for his endeavors while he was here, wish him all the best for the future, but there's no escaping that a spud is a spud is a spud.

I've resisted for the first 9 pages but ill say my goodbye...
I always thought he had potential, but unfortunately that was never seen at RFC
Possibly a fresh start and a new club might bring some good out of him.
I was there to defend him and say he could turn the corner at any stage but ib was also there to slap him across the face with a trout when he stuffed up. I'm guilty of both
One good memory of Gus I had is in the 2011 H&A against freo at the G, it was just before the siren and Gus was outside the 50 kicking to the punt rd end from a set shot. He went back and drove that ball right between the sticks, perhaps even to his own amazement. That goal helped to give us a buffer ( along with ty vickey goal?) And in the last quarter we went on to dismantle the dockers
Thanks Gus and good luck! :thumbsup

Coach you have repeated the "Gus is a ripper bloke line several times". The only time I was close to him was at a Coburg and Willy game where 'Goo' badly sprained his ankle in the first quarter. The affected area blew up like a balloon and Goo was obviously distressed. Gus thought it was very funny and pointed him out to several team-mates and laughed like an immature schoolgirl. Goo didn't see the funny side at all. It was bad form. >:( Gus will flounder at Adelaide as he has done here because he has character flaws that were exposed by Dimma's accountable style of play that demands commitment and courage..
