Title: Josh Toy

Rumour on another board we have signed Josh Toy as a delisted free agent?  Anyone heard this one??

Surely the RFC website would have said so if that was the case.

Ok I'll play this game..........If we did, would we have to somehow free-up another spot by doing some veteran shenanigans with Newy?

Never understood why people rate Toy. There was nothing at junior level that stood out IMO and he's done nothing since being drafted.

Is he a free agent in any case? I thought he rejected a contract from the Suns.

I think he was delisted and so becomes a free agent.

Edit: Just rechecked the AFL website and can confirm that he was delisted.

unless the gold coast are playing funny buggers, Toy is not a free agent as it appears he has been offered a contract.

He has spoken with the Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn and, briefly, with Essendon but also feels positive about remaining with the Suns, who have offered him a one-year contract extension, should a trade not be worked out.

I think the key difference with Josh Toy being a free agent is that in the end he was delisted from the GCS by the club after refusing to sign a contract.  A player such as Ben Jacobs, refused a contract and asked to be removed from the list, so in fact delisted himself.  Ben Jacobs is thus NOT a free agent.  Josh Toy is.

At least I think that is how it works...... :rollin
Title: Re: Josh Toy

that just makes no sense at all and reeks of crap............but i think you may be right.
Quote
A player has served seven seasons or fewer of AFL football at one club, and is now out of contract.
The player is not eligible for free agency if his club wishes to retain him. He may only move clubs via a trade or the draft. If he delists himself, he is subject to the draft, and may be selected by any club.

Quote

so how I see it is, if you knock back a contract, but as long as the club delists you, which they would have to do when the primary list announcements are made (?) and you have not signed a contract, then you become a free agent.

if you delist yourself, then you dont become a free agant and have to enter the draft.

so why would anyone delist themself?

if this is the case, then this is just mental, but then again, it is the AFL.

surely clubs couldn't keep a player on their list who has not signed a contract, which would create a loophole for anyone to become a free agent at any time?

If a club offers you a contract and holds you until draft time then bad luck you have to go through the draft.

He's done medicals with 5 clubs that I know of (Rich, Haw, North Melb, WB, Ess).

So it would seem clubs are doing their due dilligence.

Draft Joshua Toy!

It is strange that he hasn't been snapped up?

In the 2010 Draft, David Swallow said that if he was in the draft, he would of gone No.1.

Have a friend that worked with Josh's brother and Josh's brother did say Gold Coast said we will pick you up through the draft and you get paid $55,000 or sign for two years for $150,000.

Didn't like playing in the Gold Coast and didn't get along with Bluey, same as Caddy really!

His heart problem? May be serious, because why wouldn't he be picked up by now???

Why didn't we take him today?
Toy would've needed to go onto the senior list if we took him as a delisted free agent today meaning we would have one less pick in the National draft.

Going by the AFL site, they think we will consider Toy plus the others with permission to train with us in the second free agency period the day after the National draft.

"None of the trio [ed. Toy, Stephenson & Wood] have nominated for the upcoming NAB AFL Draft, but they could join Richmond during the second free agency period for delisted players, which begins on November 23 - the day after the national draft.

Poor advice. Helmut makes his best decisions after a sesh. If his bong water is available then I suggest you drink it. We can all learn something from CC.

Is Toy any good or not? If he is then we should have delisted White and picked up Josh. poo even Justin Sherman would be better than some of our "depth" players :lol

Are their facilities really old? Thought they upgraded them?

They put the fourth wall on when the 2 men and their dog donated $22.35 to the Boxing Kangaroo Fund

:clapping

It just baffles me how this club continues to exist! They must use their new facility to hold religious services on Sundays with a mandatory 10% to go into the collection plate or you go straight to hell.

Toy, Stephenson & Wood] have nominated for the upcoming NAB AFL Draft, but they could join Richmond during the second free agency period for delisted players, which begins on November 23 - the day after the national draft.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/151049/default.aspx

Smart move by the club.
I'm still a little confused. Do we have the room to take Toy as a free agent after we draft 4 kids next week. If we allow Toy to go through to the rookie draft surely he will be gone before we get a chance to grab him.

If they want him I am sure they'll figure something out.

Just grabbed this from bF, written by Tigs2010 :

"Yes. But that ended yesterday. We now have the draft. Then next Friday the 2nd delisted Free Agency Period begins. I think we will see what we can get in the draft first and then recruit someone if we want to. Been told we have 5 or 6 list spots if we choose to use them. With the veteran list changing something like every club can have 40 senior players and 4 rookies but you can keep it at 39 & 5 or 38 & 6 if you choose. So we could effectively take our 4 draftees and sign 2 delisted free agents. ie Toy & hopefully someone half decent like Sam Lonergan rather than Cameron Wood. Then take Wood/Stephenson and Petterd (if his foot hasn't fallen off by then) in the rookie draft."

Currently we have 34 on the main list and 2 rookies so there is plenty of room for the scenario underlined to unfold.

Hopefully we will take Toy in the Last DFA period and not leave anything to chance.......

Maybe you should read it properly not skim and whinge because you didn't find anything

Even is his heart is rooted you still need to play a plus one
And apart.from not being Lewis jetta fast, toy seems almost perfect. I doubt if the kid left at our 2nd-4th pick will have equal upside. Of course rookie draft would be perfect.

Ud hate for him to go eswendon.and come.good.

In regard to good attribute:
can kick. Leadership. Seems.one.of his age group more talented players

I'm more or less going by his draft profile tbh (even if it is couple year old).

Toy was rated the equal of swallow. How often do recent top 3 picks come about?

Quarerback
From the small of I've seen of the boy at gc  thought he looks solid. I can understand the Luke Hodge comparable. Could been our hbf

bck. Less.soft than houli.  :huh

at least white and jackson can run 100 metres without blowing up. he certainly has talent but the real question that needs answering is is he over his condition. total waste of time if he isnt.

Not really.

One specialist sub player is required one way or ant other.

Who in most occasions will will play just other.one quarter, Max.

Former recent too.3. Draft pool talents don't grow on trees.

Edit. Toy was at the cotchin captain meeting  :pray

Always be regarded as a backman ..... never midfield

Off the GC website
2011 was a trying first season for highly regarded young defender Josh Toy. Despite a strong start to the season, he was soon pushed back to the reserves.

Toy reads the play well extremely off half-back, and has a thumping right boot.

The highly talented youngster will benefit from another year of senior football as he fights to earn a regular spot, however Toy’s all-round defensive poise, leadership qualities, strong marking, and powerful tackling will hold him in good stead as his career progresses.
