Title: Rehab???
Post by: WA Tiger on November 28, 2012, 08:21:29 AM
God whats going on, it seems like half the team are in the rehab group, honestly, are we the worst prepared team going into the pre-season?

Seems like every year it is worse, is it poor player management during the season regarding players carrying injuries??

What is going on?? Are we actually going to be able to field a fit team going into round one.

I remember asking the same question a couple of years ago and people were saying don't worry they will all come good by round one.......well round one came and the players in the rehab group didn't play.

We really don't look in good shape at the moment, with Grimes going down it seems to be getting worse.

Better in November than March or September..

Yeah that was said as well, our probelm is we let these players carry their injuries all year even when the season is shot. Then we end up in this mess.

No al thats why I asked the question mate, note the question mark... :thumbsup

Point is, we have a lot, every year it seems to get worese and every year we carry these injured players through to the end for no reason, it's not like we were in the GF....Then we end up like this....

It may seem like a lot, but comparatively, is it?

Just looked up any club at random, it appears Geelong have 7 on restricted training programs, and I'm unsure how many out altogether. We have 8 blokes in the rehab group, most of which are just for recovering from routine post season ops. Just take a chill pill, every club does it and is in the same boat. It didn't affect blokes like Deledio as Cotchin last time and it won't this time. And sometimes you can't get a player into a clean out style op the week immediately after playing. Off the top of my head I think hips are fine, but things like knees can develop inflammation under the knee cap, and if you've ever had an operation before to fix an injury then you will know that surgeons don't like working around inflammation.

Apparently this year is better than what it was last year.

The nature of the injuries or the amount of players in rehab?

It may seem like minor injuries etc... but that was apparently the case last year with Riewoldt and it did affect his first part of the year.

Lets just hope they all come good by round 1, I have my doubts though..

Jack had a gazillion post season ops last year though.

King was pulled out during the season. What's your point?

King was pulled out during the season. What's your point?

King broke down during the season, thats why he was out, point is we have another player that actually should of been "pulled out" earlier in the season to have surgery, but now we have him having multiple operations.

Then people will bag him because he cant get it going on field...how many others are like that?????

Who cares, we just seem to have a lot in the rehab group and I hope this does not hurt us early or in the middle of the season..

If you dont have a solid pre season you inevitably struggle the following season. JR is a perfect example. King will be another in 2013, same with Foley.

By all reports wat, this preseason we are tracking a lot better than last preseason in terms of restricted full training numbers. For me its not the amount of players in the rehab group but the actual players in it and their injuries, Grimes and Foley fully fit make us a serious side

This time last year we had al least a dozen (maybe more) blokes on modified programs (rehab grp). This per-season we have half that.

At least all blokes have had their surgeries and are in rehab.

Pies have only just had 2 of their blokes go in for surgery (Thomas, Goldsack).

Know which group is going to get more of a pre-season in

JR is having an unhindered pre-season, according to Hardwick.
“Jack didn’t have a pre-season last year.  This year he’ll come in unhindered.  We’re looking for a bigger season from Jack,” he said.

Did I read somewhere that Jack has had around 15 operations in the last 12 months.

Dont know about 15, but he had 5 last off season and didnt get into full training until the end of january, hence his fitness base for season 2012 was non existant. Thats why some posters including myself were deadset frothing that the club didnt put him in for surgery 7-8 weeks earlier in 2011, no we had to win deadrubbers!!  anyhow, thats richmond, good news is expect a big big year from jack performance wise, he was pooful for most of this season, fully fit, he'll smash it

Yeah the Pies, honestly 2 players and Goldsack was on the trade table wasn't he?? They also have a heap more depth than us, they could probably afford to put those two in for op's come round one.

Be interesting to see how the Blues are travelling at the moment on the rehab front.
