Title: Carlton dreggs
Post by: tdy on July 08, 2013, 10:32:10 PM
Article in the age about carlscum

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/song-remains-the-same-in-blues-backyard-20130708-2pmdg.html (http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/song-remains-the-same-in-blues-backyard-20130708-2pmdg.html)

But for richmond the interesting bit might be the names mentioned, Laidler, Watson, Duigan.  Could we and should we consider trying to grab any of these?  I think they are all classic fringe players at carlscum and they know their number is up under Malthouse, what do people think of these and any other Malthouse rejects.

Do we have backline holes that need filling?  Backup for chaplin? Would any be upgrades?

I remember before the season started Malthouse was talking Duigan up as a potential Captain hahaha :rollin

I remmebr that too, Duigin is physically strong enough but doesn't kick that well and doesn't make great decisions when under pressure but seem OK and is old 27 or so.  Does he make OK backup? Dunno, just throwing it out there.

Duigan apparently got on the wrong side of Mick and has been banished.

I'd look at Gibbs as an outside mid who's a good kick. Would/could be an upgrade on another former Blue  ;D

Mick apologized to the scum members and they've had a BBQ at training today.

After Saturdays debacle Dimma should offer us members atleast a steak sanga at our next training session.  ;D

The bastard took the funding from a couple of Richmond pubs away from us and gave it to the Carlscum a few years back.  Hope he tears em apart.

I would take Gibbs in a heartbeat, would trade Deledio even.  Less so Murphy or Kreuzer, you wouldn't want to pay overs for either of them.

Gibbs is the worst of those three and you would trade Lids for him?

Murphy for Lids maybe.

I rate Gibbs a great inside mid who can weave through packs like Couch or Healy could.  Few can really do this, especially in this day n age. Cotch can and Gibbs would be an upgrade on Foley.  i just think his ability and potential are top notch.

Kreuzer is just coming into being a good ruck and you never entirely know with talls.  He may be great but I'm not %100 sure he will be so I wouldn't pay overs for him.

I reckon Murphy is a good kick but too small to impact contests.  He's just a good user of the ball and tough but so is Brent Guerra and you wouldn't pay overs for him.  I just think his ceiling is limited, but don't get me wrong he is a good player.  I just wouldn't pay overs.

This list http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_rankings ranks Gibbs at 50 Murphy at 65 and Kruezer doesn't make the top 100, but thats not fair on Kruezer cos he's a ruck.

Gibbs a great 'inside mid'? You crayfish, bebe?

Yes Murphy is small, but he's an established elite mid. Plays both inside and out, like Cotch. An undoubted Jet. Im just gonna leave that Brent Guerra comparison alone.

'I wouldn't pay overs' is a nothing statement. Of course you wouldn't want to pay 'overs' for anyone. That goes without saying.
Your suggested deal of Deledio for Gibbs would be doing just that, in my opinion.

I dont pay much respect to those player rankings but would I suspect the fact that Murphy was injured for most of last year has had a bearing on his position.

Each to their own though I guess.

Sydney paid overs for Tippett and if their is anyone in the business who knows their stuff its the Sydney recycling recruiters. Certain players you do pay overs for because they fill particular structural gaps.  I don't know what we paid for Chaplin but he filled a gap for us, I wouldn't be surprised if we paid above market rates given his ability.

I hear they will be flicking off the likes of Warnock, Yarran and Duigan, as well as another half dozen.

What do you guys think? Take Warnock to replace Big O? Should be cheap...

Why isn't Warnock in their side. Is he out with injury at the moment.

I think they prefer Kreuzer + Hampson combo as Warnock isn't as good as Kreuzer in the ruck IMO and both him and Hampson are probably better forwards. Warnock I think would be a good backup.

As for Duigan... seriously? I think he could handle a mortgage playing on any AFL list/wage. It's not like Carlton is hours away from Richmond or wherever he's bought. Know where Big O lives? lol

I meant Casboult actually not Hampson. Either way they have a lot of talls with those two and Kreuzer/Warnock. Should grab one IMO.

Warnock for ruck. Gets plenty of hitouts at 206/103

Not saying that he is staying at Carlton as a fact, just saying that he has just bought a joint (I think it might be still to settle) in the area of Princess Park and I highly doubt he would have done or so been approved of the loan if he was about to be out of contract and had no idea if another from anywhere was coming. Reckon he has already signed but there just hasn't been any fanfare for a fringe player.

I doubt the bank would deny him a loan based on his contract or lack thereof. They can only go on your current/recent pay.

Duigan has played one solitary game this year. I've heard he's in poopoo.

would relly like laidler make an ideal third tall.
as for trading a decent mid for a decent mid what does it get us.nothing.
we need to add to what decent mids we have not tread water or we will forever be stuck with the likes of jackson white etc crapping up the team.

Jackson has been one of our best this year and provides essential toughness. White is having a great impact as a sub. Played very well for 3 quarters last week.

I swear you must watch with one eye closed, your posts are that far off the mark...

sad but true, Both made their share of characteristic errors but they were not the reason we lost, by a long shot.

what does it say about our more favored players when they are shown up by "hacks" in tough games?

are they its this sort of blindness that keeps me posting.

of course white and jackson have at times played some decent footy but ordinary in describing them is being kind. with such limited players in the team we will for ever be a middling team.
what is undisputable with these hacks is their very best is passable but the slightest fall away from their best and they become massive liabilities.
when our better players are held they are incapable of filling the void.

i swear some supporters are only capable of seeing what our players do well and totally ignore the constant stuff ups.

I wonder if we could get anything out of Yarran, damn he's quick but he goes missing for games.  I don't think Malthouse is his type of coach but you never know.  Would Hardwick be the right type of coach for him?  He'd be a big upgrade on guys like White if he was consistent.

They won't be trading Gibbs or Kreuzer according to Mick.

Quote
CARLTON coach Mick Malthouse is adamant AFL No.1 draft picks Matthew Kreuzer and Bryce Gibbs won't be released, calling them "untouchable''.

Carlton are two games outside the top eight heading into Saturday night's match against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Their inconsistent form has sparked speculation about whether the Blues might use Kreuzer and Gibbs as trade bait at the end of this season.

"I can categorically tell you that Gibbs and Kreuzer are untouchable - I don't know how plain I can make that,'' Malthouse said on Friday.
