Hawks up by a point at QT
Who do you want to win tonight?
I wang the chardy slurping foamers to lose
-
Dawks, just so I can see another game next week ;D
-
stuff sydney
they induce projectile :chuck
-
Hawks big 4 club, malakies.
Empty seats everywhere.
Top tier wouldn't even be half full.
If we were playing Sydney in a Qualifying final there would be 75K minimum.
Would love to knock them off next week. Skata and pee footy club.
If Geelong got a home final in Geelong why didn't Tassie Hawks get one at York Park?
-
Jesse White LMAO
I think I would rather Kosi

Hawks home 51 points up with 10 mins to go in the game
So if the Tigers win on Sunday we are off to Sydney
Gee that 20% discount on tickets for week 2 is going to come in handy ..... NOT ;D

Heard a rumour that NRL game scheduled next Sat night at Homebush?
Either way will be booking my flights on Sunday night if we get up for a trip to Sydney next week.
Gee the Swans looked shot in the 2nd half. Looked real slow and tired.
If we can get through on Sunday and if we play Sydney at Homebush we can certainly expose this.
Could be real smokeys to get to a prelim.

Just got back from the game and as I expected hawks supporters were there in full voice. All 43556 of them.
They are a bunch of try hards that club
-
I saw the game on tv and thought both Hawthorn and Sydney looked slow on the big ground. We could expose them both for pace on a bigger ground. Beat Sydney and play Sydney at Homebush then we are a big chance based on what I saw tonight.
-
I always love the first 10-15 mins of a final when it's hot before the sting goes out and turns into a regular game, but this Freo v Geel game is nearing half time and it's still a ripper.
-
Agreed. Great game Dwaino
-
Freo up 74-68 early Q4.
Hard to know who I want to win as we play the winner if we get to a PF. Our record is good against Freo but playing back-to-back interstate trips would be a killer; whereas we would play the Cats at the 'G but we haven't beaten them in 7 years.
-
Not thinking that far yet ;D loving this game at the moment. This is finals footy :bow just wondering how we'd go if it were us vs one of these sides at the moment. Another reason to win tomorrow so we can go and learn from Sydney next week what finals footy is all about, win or lose. Would be some good lessons and be ready to play a final like this one next year (or the week after ;D ;D ;D)
-
What's been a bit of a surprise is the number of the Cats middle tier blokes fumbling and making terrible skill errors. Stokes, Varcoe, Duncan
Been costly
-
Collingwood (unless there is an upset) will take it right up to Geelong too. Would still favour the Cats, but Hawks would be getting a bit nervous right now ;D
-
GO FREO!!!!!!
Sensational game, so delicious. :shh stick that up your arse Andy D, Ross Lyon is lhao :lol
-
Love him or not Ross Lyon is the best coach in the league by a mile. :yep
He is a genius. :thumbsup
We make finals first time in 12 years and potentially we get 2 interstate trips in succession. ;D
-
Cracking game and enjoyed every minute of it. The difference in finals tempo is palpable and I hope we are up for it. The Hawks/Swans game last night was another ripper up to half time but then Hawthorn blew them apart and the Swans looked very tired in the second half. I wonder if they have hit their season's brick wall? :pray
-
Sandilands just gave them an armchair ride with first use of the ball.
Freo just dominated contested possession and the Cats lack of a decent ruckman exposed them.
Freo were brilliant today but in Perth for their prelim they can get exposed as West Coast did in their first home final in 1991 due to the hype and expectation in the west with Hawthorn getting the win. They are feral over there and I feel even though Ross Lyon will take a low key approach the hype may get to the players.
If we get that far playing a prelim away from home could work in our favour that week being away from the hype here and having a low key approach from Thursday onwards that week.
Lets win tomorrow and then lets take it a game at a time. :thumbsup
-
Having Nick Maxwell on your team is like being a man down on the field.
-
What a weekend so far. Collingwood gone and potentially Carlton gone too. In the same weekend.
Come on Tigers get it done and make it a sweet weekend even sweeter. :gotigers
-
Good stuff Port well deserved win.

Thank you Port :highclap
Buckley looked like he was in shock in his aftermatch press conference. Eddie's succession plan has been such a success :wallywink.
-
Having Nick Maxwell on your team is like being a man down on the field.
:yep
And I hope he stays on for another year or 2 - they deserve each other. And the faces on FIGJAM and Eddie last night were priceless. Didn't see any vision of Joffa in the crowd but I bet that was every bit as good. :birthday

Cmon port :pray

Geelong win
Congrats Port on a fantastic season, best story of the season. From basket case to semi finals = sensational effort :clapping
-
Agreed Port were really brave. Just kept on coming. Must admit Geelong also got some lucky decisions in the last but it just felt they had just enough to keep a little bit of distance between them and Port.
Well done to Port. I am sure we will see a lot more of them in the future. Must admit other than their more established well known players I had no idea from their faces who some of them were. I know now. Well done on a great year to Port. :thumbsup
-
stuff port i want to see hawks earn their win in the prelim.
Chapman will be lucky to play after his bump on Gray.
I feel the Hawks will have the Cats measure next week regardless.
-
Good game by Port played with intensity and took it up to Geebung all game, wish I could say the same for the Tiges
-
Some generous umpiring for the Cats as well last night helped them.
What a freak goal by Westhoff btw! :o
In some ways it was a similar final to ours. Port had a handy 4 goal lead at half-time but they fell away in the second half to lose by 3.

McVeigh 20 touches in a 1/4

McVeigh 20 touches in a 1/4
Excellent quarter my him and no scum player within 10 metres of him the whole quarter.

I know alot of you guys don't think much of him but I really like Jesse White.
He smashes the contest, he takes contested marks, he tackles well and I like the way he brings others into the game. He's no superstar but he's quite a clever footballer is JW.
JW > TV.
Oh and he doesn't stupidly take out the teams best forward every time he goes for a mark.
-
Is he playing tonight?
-
Is he playing tonight?
:lol.
You'll need a Tv to see the game dwaino.
Trust me he's done well without being spectacular.
He's an honest contributor & a hardened battler.
-
What a difference a week makes. Last week the Blues were kicking them from anywhere and everywhere but tonight they kick 8.14 and lose despite having more scoring shots ::).
Also, like us, the Swans lost a player inside the first 5 mins but they came out after half-time and made sure they had an unbeatable lead by 3/4 time to counter any chance of a comeback by the fresher legs of Carlton in the last.
Anyway I hope our boys were watching tonight to see and hurt about what they missed out on.
-
What that showed me is how weak we truly are losing to the likes of Gartlett, Mr Potential, Robinson and Yarran
I'm expecting another loss round 1, 2014
-
Coaches boys are back
Had a chat with Tobe the other night, he reckons Port will be brilliant next year.
-

Like all of them? :lol

Pretty much
-
A great game so far tonight. Ever battle for the ball so crucial and some players on both sides are feeling the pressure. The Hawks' forwards have missed a few sitters which might come back to bite them while Josh Hunt is having a shocker in the Cats' defence dropping uncontested marks. Stevie J on the other hand is just a freak and killing them out there. I hope Dusty is watching Stevie J and realising what a finals matchwinner he could be for us with maturity and working more to better his endurance further.
-
Eat poo hawthorn :pray
-
Wow. The Rioli mark in front of goal and the reversal of the out on the full decision. Both resulted in Geelong goals and I reckon two of the bigges umpiring clangers I've ever seen.
-
Cats be crapped on by the umpires all game until then
-
There's been some umpire shockers both ways tonight.
Cats up 90-70 at 3/4 time. Geez it'd be hilarious if the Kennett Curse carries on.
-
I hope Geelong hangs onhere. Hawthorn are a pretenders club. A chokers club if they lose tonight.
-
Cats look shot. :whistle
-

Yeah Hawks have this won.
J-Pod has looked really flat this year and tonight.
-
Handbag cat fairys :banghead
-
Varcoe should of scored that goal.
-
:huhat least we beat the first GF Finalists!!!
-
What a game.
-
thats what finals football is all about. Non stop action and contested ball.
Not putting the football up in the air
Thats the level we need to get to.
-
Varcoe could have tied it and blew it as did the Cats after throwing away a 20 point 3/4 time lead. Geelong's great era is over. They'll still be up there in the finals for the next couple of years but they won't win another flag.
Hawthorn's premiership to lose now. The relief of coming from behind and winning the hard one in a Prelim often relaxes the nerves and spurs sides the next week in the Grand Final. I don't want the Hawks to win and move ahead of us in terms of flags :( but they are going to be hard to beat next week especially after losing the Granny last year.
-
:huhat least we beat the first GF Finalists!!!
Actually we have beaten both now. ;)
-
Hawks should beat the Swans and Fremantle but I'd give freo a better chance at winning then the Swans.

I'm surprised that there are so many on here who wanted the Cats to win last night. Effing good riddance to them I say. I hate them. We have our own "Kennet's curse" against them that stretches back to 2007. That horrible match at Docklands when they beat us 222 to 65 still burns in my guts, and I still hate them for stealing Ottens. More recently, the way that dirty little stager Smellwood carried on with Chris Newman this year still sticks in my craw. The look on his ugly mug at the final siren last night was an absolute delight. I hope that with a rapidly ageing list their era of dominance is over, and we can start dishing out some long overdue and painful payback in years to come.
-
I hate everyone but reckon ill go for the dockers
-
No way! If the Dockers win the flag, then everybody will be copying their wretched style of suffocating, highlight-free footy, and the game will become unwatchable. Ross Lyon is a stain on the game. The lame ducks are almost as bad. I'd be surprised if tonight's scoreline gets into double digits.
-
Take it easy RR
Lyon is a great coach. He has grown on my as a coach
I don't know the stats but they wouldn't be that low scoring this year as his time at shitkilda
-

Against the crap sides sure but it is against the good sides where you want to see a good flowing match and all you get is the rugby scrum

Exactly. Even when we beat them this year, you wouldn't exactly call it an enjoyable or entertaining match, aside from the result. They force you into playing their style of game, which is just putrid.
-
3 things
Would you take a flag if we won ugly?
We don't exactly lean to that style of play, but did you see any side last night throwing their hands in the air when in possession trying to slow the game?
Hawks will go to 11 flags, personally I'm sick of sides going past us the last 35 years!
-
Yes I wound take a flag any way I can
Watch some of Fred's games they are not all rugby styles
Our first game this year was a good contest
Spot on CUB that game was intense from start to finish
Slow football won't win you a flag and that's what we produced in the later stages of the second and last half against the scum
Last nights game is where I want us to get to
Gee I can't wait to beat the cats best year
stuff em and go freo next week
-
How the hell can anyone support hawthorn pompous sobs
-
Easy bents
Hawk supporters are commonly known as turn coats
Does anyone know of a hawk supporter that has followed then since birth. I certainly don't
Biggest bandwagon supporters in the afl
-
Have people watched Freo much? They defend amazingly well but they attack pretty well too. Not the same as when he had that crap Saints team that defended to the death because they lacked about 6 decent players.

Okay, this comes up every time the "winning ugly" debate rears its' head, so I want to hopefully clear this misapprehension up once and for all, and make this clear. I am NOT advocating that we play "pretty" football, and I am DEFINITELY NOT a fan of the "tempo footy" that the Tigers have unsuccessfully trialled in recent times.
No team EVER won a Premiership by playing pretty football. I was watching that documentary on the BRILLIANT 1989 GF the other night, and it was a brutal, tough, uncompromising, last-man-standing affair, and a great advert for the way the game should be played, and the intensity that I want the Tigers to play with AT ALL TIMES. Yet at no stage did either team throw every single player into every single contest, and turn the game into one long, rolling rugby scrum devoid of any highlights. And before anybody accuses me of living in the distant past, well, last night's game was a tough and see-sawing encounter, but thankfully it wasn't one of those boring Fremantle suffocating efforts by the same token. I meant it when I said that Ross Lyon is a stain on the game. And the more success his side has, the more praise he garners in the media, the more other clubs strive to copy his style, the more stubborn that stain will become, until all the Preen in the world wont remove it. So arrogant or not, next week I say "GO THE HAWKS".
As for tempo footy, I believe that waving the ball above your head and chipping the ball backwards and sideways is akin to waving a white flag to the opposition and saying "we're tired and want to take the pace out of the game momentarily, please don't come at us while we get our breath back." Yeah, right.
-
Footnote:
Yes CUB, like you, I too am sick and tired of sides going past us in the last 35 years. But unfortunately that is what happens when a club basically goes into stasis for a third of a century. What else can you expect? Yeah the Hawks will pass us, just like Geelong caught us, Brisbane/Fitzroy caught us, and Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon, who were all within our grasp in 1980 all surged miles ahead. Have you considered the thought that if Freo win the flag, then every side in the AFL bar the 2 brand new kids and Richmond will have won a Premiership since the game went national. Maybe instead of envying all the other clubs' achievements it's time the Tigers had a damn good look at themselves and decided its' time to re-join the Premiership race.
-

I hate everyone but reckon ill go for the dockers
Me too, Dockers tonight and I want the Hawks to win next week as I am from a predominantely Hawk family despite my dislike of them. But just like last year if they get done I'll let them absorb the loss and then bang. Open slather to my hearts content. ;D

The occasion is getting to the Dockers in front of the sticks. Up to 2.10 now. They're keeping the Swans in it despite dominating the play.
-
They are missing their fare share of set shots.
Up to 4.10 now and looking better with Pavlich and Crowley converting their shots from 40 out.
Swans are getting smashed they just can't find the footy.
Dockers sustained pressure is everywhere at the moment.
-
Swans playing crap isn't helping ;D
-
Reminding me of our first quarter v the Swans last year at the G.
Multiply this by four quarters and that is Freo tonight and just about every week.
Sydney have not had one possession inside 50 in this quarter.
Freo 52-13.
-

And enter the great Jesse White to stop the rot, unfortunately kicks a point
-
The Swannies can't win any clean possessions as Freo's pressure is unbelievable. Surely it's game over already. Sydney look shot!
The interesting thing will be whether Freo can back up this relentless pressure again next week away from home at the 'G. Apart from their goalkicking in the first quarter, they've been faultless tonight whereas Hawthorn got through not playing their best and with quiet games from many of their best players.
-
All Sydney so far this quarter but no real impact on the scoreboard. Freo 53-21.
Swans getting their hands on the footy now and wining clearances.
Freo did give up a similar lead at half time against Essendrugs in their only loss at Pattersons this year.

Don't eat the Yellow snow!

Freo home now 78-35 3/4 time.

Yes, everybody has a defensive aspect to their game, but only Freo is prepared to sacrifice every positive aesthetic feature of the game in the pursuit of a win. Pretty soon I guess everybody else will copy them, and the game will become completely unwatchable.
-

Not a fan of their style per se
But have to say I love watching them tackle, they are the best tackling side on the comp. Not many teams break a thier tackles.
Wish we could tackle like that
-
Early last year Freo supporters didn't even like the style but quickly changed their tune once they started winning and we wouldn't be any different. A flag is a flag in the annals of history. It won't be marked with an asterisk in 50 years with the note "ugly brand of football."
Good on Freo I reckon.
-
I'm getting confused today, reckon on the day I may just end up going for the hawks.
Sometimes I pick a team and then on the day find myself changing, so confusing!
-
I actually enjoyed watching Freo last night. They were amazing. They still score quite heavily anyway.
-
I just don't enjoy seeing one team basically coral the other team into a small corner of the ground and not let them out, while meanwhile tumbleweeds blow across the rest of the oval like an open prairie. If this is what our great game has (d)evolved into, then it's been ruined.
