Jon Ralph @RalphyHeraldSun twitter:
"Great to see McCartney getting a two- year extension. Buckley, Sanderson, Clarkson & Hardwick will all get similar deals this summer"
-
When does his current contract expire ::)
-
Could have waited till after the season. No one else would have taken him. Seems as though we've fallen in love with this guy and didn't consider anyone else. Should have waited to see if Mick got sacked. :banghead
-
Obviously trying to avoid any de-railing created by media witch hunting. Has done everything asked of his to date with our club trajectory trending up every year.

Sorry, but that's a strange comment. If Mick gets sacked that means he has done a poo job at Carlton. Why would he do better at Richmond?
I think Hardwick provides stability to the Tigers. Stability we haven't really seen since the Hafey days.

they should give him a 5 year contract - hes a top coach.

I'm still waiting for Sheedy

Good to see we're jumping the gun with contracts as usual. Hopefully there's a few performance clauses in there.

Will be in his 5th year next year , still has -what is it? - two more years to run on his current contract - we've made the finals once so far, pretty self-explanatory, I would've thought.

FFS he has taken us from an absolute non competitive basket case to a finalist. All of this in a period of draft concessions to GC and GWS. So many of you are unrealistic in your expectations from a single individual. I say bravo Damien!

I was of the thought that 2014 was the last year of his existing contract.
I am of the belief that he has earned an extension.

it is. Either sign him now or have a circus next year. Besides if it fails we can ask the fans to pay him out. Isn't that right WP? ;D

Dimma - has done a good job - he has made mistakes but the progress has been steady and upwards...
Some of you need to consider that your unrealistic demands of instant success are the major reason we have fallen from the heavens.
Sacking coaches and overpriced players are our past – the future needs a good foundation and right now we are building that…
Dimmas first couple of years was about clearing out deadwood on the list and he has achieved that – we have a young list and while some of them won’t make it – fingers crossed enough of them just may…
Damien has made errors – but over the years we (the club) “have also”
• 1 Million Dollars for Annear, Walsh and Co
• Sacking coaches having given them just enough time to find the light switch:
o Mike Patterson 1 year
o Paul Sproule 1 year
o Allan Jeans 1 year
o Robert Walls 2 years
o Kevin Bartlett 3 years (with the worst list in the history of the club and no money to spend)
* Some of our members who probably have never played the game or at least at any level… and could not manage a fart in a baked bean factory… stood in the outer and abused these men (as if they knew better)…
I have seen seven grand finals and five premierships in my life and we probably would have gotten more if supporters did more supporting and less bitching about things they know nothing about…
“opinions are like a-holes – everyone’s got one” but the fact is Damien Hardwick has the job and our job is to support him and the club!!!
Give him two years - that's the end of 2016 and try to enjoy the ride

Found this from September....

Thought we'd extended his contract twice already but only once so far it seems. Still think the club needs to see how this year pans out first before the bestowing of any further rewards upon Hardwick........certainly shouldn't let what the media might say dictate our contracts....people still buying into this "eat our own" myth when we will have had only three coaches in the last 15 years and all will have coached into a 5th year and at least made it deep into the last year of their contracts...

He has one year left on his contract, prior to Hardwick - looking back 30 years plus we have only ever sacked coaches in the last year of their contract with the exception of Danny Frawley who was given a 2 year extension in the last year of a 3rd year contract.
So I don't know how we jumped the gun "as usual".

But that's OK :lol

That is true but the culture hasn't changed - I've been a member of theis club man and boy for over fifty years and the doomsayers and boat rockers are still here... I don't want them to disrupt the club again (it took 20 years the first time and 30 the second - if they screw it up this time I will never see another premiership)
-
As long as there are clauses so we only ever have to pay out the rest of the current year. If this year is a total dud and Hardwick for what ever reason has to go I'd rather not pay out two years. It would probably put the club back into debt at this stage, one bad year and a 2 year payout at I assume around a million, though I have no idea what he is actually paid. Anybody know what Dimma is actually paid approx?

Good to see you have the ability to twist things to serve you purpose. Though having said I am not sure your what your "whistle" comment above is all about TBBH
But here you go, yet again I'll try and make things very clear for you
Firstly, you are accused me of not being a member. I am a member and have been for over 30 years. I have mutliple memberships. I pay a fair whack of $$$ to be a member of the RFC. It is my choice the types of memberships I have but don't ever say I am not a member because that is simply not true
Most people on here would know that when I talk about memberships and the cost of them I don't make comments based on how it effects me. I raise concerns about how it will effect others. I hate seeing people having to give up being members or their seats because it's become cost prohibited because the Club has whacked them with a huge increase (like they did in 2013 with reserved seats in the Southern Stand on level 2). I have received a few whacks along the way but I don't care it is just my take on things
I have been very very clear in my view that the Club needs to be very careful when it comes to raising the cost of memberships. I have no problem with membeship price increasing every year. Small increases are fine but massive increase simply wont work. You will lose members. Just like the idea of forcing people to but a reserve seat as part of the membership when our home ground is the MCG wont work.
Some people on here have advocated that the club put the cost of membership up by a further $15 this year on top of what they've already increased them by for 2014 to fund the cost of bringing PRO to VFL standard so we can play games there. Others have suggeast charging a one off levy to fund it.
I make absolutely no aplogies in saying that I dead-set against these ideas, people should not be forced to pay for something they may not or cannot afford. People should be given that choice just like they should be given the choice on whether to contribute to the FTF...
Is that clear enough ::)

So when will we raise the membership to Collingwood price ? We want the same profits that they get when we are pushing 80k like them

So when will we raise the membership to Collingwood price ? We want the same profits that they get when we are pushing 80k like them
How the hell would I know?
And what's with this "we" business, it seems you are the one that is fascinated with what other clubs are doing and wanting to be like them
But here's a suggestion, you want the RFC to make more money? Why don't you either buy extra memberships or upgrade to higher level of membership, donate to the FTF and help that way rather than wanting price increases slugged on everyone else
-

What makes you think I don't do that already ? I'm a true supporter, I give now and still want them to increase membership costs. I like to observe what other clubs are doing so that we can do the same and make our own club better. Unlike some people ::)

1/ I have no idea what level of membership you have but you're the one who accused me of not being a member which was blantantly untrues. So I would suggest if you are going to take pot shots from the cheap seats then be prepared to take it back in kind ;D
2/ I think I am true member and supporter, I have never ever downgraded my memberships because the price has gone up. As I said I pay big $$$ for my membership. So I don't think my committment to this club can be questioned. Just because I question some of the things they do isn't a sign of disloyalty it is about holding them to account to the membership
3/ I too look at what other clubs do but I don't get obessive about it. More importantly I don't think that just because one club makes bigger profits than us that their methods of making is the right way to do it. I want the RFC to be the RFC; not a clone of some other club, that in some cases treats its grassroots members with a type of disdain by pricing things out of their reach.

anyway.... at least Hardwick adjusted our attacking gameplan this year, but he really needs to do the same with our defensive gameplan - it hasn't changed in 4 years and is too often found wanting when the opposition gains the upper-hand. Like to see a bit more outside the box thinking too. Far too rigid and conventional. Really he's one real tactical coup was the West Coast match this year, when we conceded the hit-outs to Cox & Natanui and shut down the mids feeding off them instead....which was hardly revolutionary.

#3 best defense behind freo/Sydney outside Chaplin everyone should improve given the age brackets
-
The backline will hold up as long as Chaplin does. It's our defence around the ground, particularly between the arcs that concerns me. Classic example was the North loss - we actually out tackled them and had a fairly high tackle count but most of the tackles occured during long periods of the ball being locked up in the 50's. When they broke away on the counter, won the clearances & centre bounces and were able to run though the middle we had no answer. Carlton did the same - three times if you count the last quarter in round one. Geelong, Collingwood. Sydney was the one loss where our backline was a contributer to the defeat - though that was as much to do with poor match-ups and the small ground as much as anything. Could be argued the Rance on Cloke debacle v Collingwood was the other time, but lack of defensive pressure in the midfield is what gave Cloke all those opportunities in the first place.
It's the 8 losses Hardwick & the team need to learn from moreso than the 15 wins.

Dimma about to sign a contract extension until 2016.

Richmond have extended coach Damien Hardwick's contract until the end of the 2016 AFL season.
New Tigers president Peggy O'Neal was to announce the new deal at Wednesday's club annual general meeting according to media reports.
Hardwick's current contract is due to expire at the end of next season, but the Tigers have backed him for an extra two years.
The Essendon and Port Adelaide premiership defender has had a profound impact on Richmond in his four seasons as senior coach.
They made the finals this year for the first time since 2001 and only the second season since they lost the 1982 grand final.
While they blew their elimination final against Carlton, losing the game despite leading by nearly five goals, the Tigers are expected to keep improving.

Richmond has extended Damien Hardwick’s coaching contract for a further two years.
Hardwick, who had one year left on his existing deal with the Club, will now remain the Tigers’ coach at least until the end of the 2016 season.
“Having seen the impressive transformation our football team has made in the four years that Damien has been coach, the board had no hesitation in making the decision to extend his contract,” said Richmond’s president Peggy O’Neal.
“We are convinced Damien has the right attributes to guide our playing group. He is totally driven in his quest to make Richmond the best team in the competition.
“The board and management will provide Damien every support to collectively give us the best chance of success.”

I become unirrational when I hear that word. It disinfuriates me to read it!
Can they sack Hardwick, irrespective of what it says in his contract? Of course they can, if you need to sack contracted coaches, the AFL will pay them out for you and then collect it off the fans, starting next year with the $2 Neeld/Watters levy. There should be enough left over from that levy to start up the Neeld/Watters AFL Trust Fund for sacked coaches.
So Ox is right, they can sack him, regardless.

Hey DC, have you been going to some of '65's classes? ;D

Tigers impressed with Hardwick direction
richmondfc.com.au
December 12, 2013
It wasn’t a knee-jerk reaction. We had a full and thorough review of Damien’s performance over the last 12 months, as we do with all of our employees,” said Richmond’s CEO Brendon Gale.
“Off the back of that, we just felt, given his attributes, that he’s the right man to take us forward.
“We’re pretty proud of him, and we think he has all the attributes required to be a successful senior coach. We have to continue to support him.

Just another sensible decision that cements our current stability and keeps away the media vultures who love nothing better than to create a story about a out-of-contract coach that isn't there.
Good decision. 2nd Season since 1982? Isn't the third season-1995, 2001 and 2013 being the third
Yep elim, it's been 3 finals appearances since 1982.

Determined Richmond small defender Steven Morris has fully endorsed the Club’s decision to extend senior coach Damien Hardwick’s contract at Tigerland.
“He’s been a fantastic coach for me in my development and it’s going to be great for the Club having him, going forward,” Morris said.
“It’s really good to have a consistent game plan and those structures. So, it’s fantastic to have a really good person at the helm of our footy club.”

disagree with this. and yeah i can hear the nay sayers now. geez claw disagrees with the club againwhat a surprise.
while a fan of hardwick i think this extension premature.
if next yr they can show this yr was no fluke and we even win a final then give him another 2 or 3 yrs. lot of hanging hats on what id call just one iffy finals appearance.
geez they want to hope we make finals again or a lot of people are going to have egg on their faces.
there is no excuses next yr none at all get the job done or get out.

If Hardwick sees through this new contract until the end of 2016 then he'll become our third longest serving senior coach.

Yeah, I kinda agree with ya.
But as always the coach always gets the blame.
I'm not sure as to how much control the senior coach has in the way of employing development coaches, but I would say that the board would have a lot of input into this.
Now what goes on behind closed doors, will obviously stay there, so we will never know if a coach has said something like, no the a particular development coach or not. But if the board want that particular person, then that's what may probably happen, and the senior coach may not have a choice. That's just an example of course.
I know that we would all like to think that everybody sits down as a combined group and agrees with all decisions together and all is wonderful when it comes down to the running of a football club. I doubt that it would be all rosy and wonderful at all times.
My point is, it shouldn't be solely the senior coach who must take the full wrap (yeah i know they always do take the wrap), I know development coaches get replaced and things like that as well.
What should happen, employ specialty development coaches for each and every player. Of course the senior coach oversees all that goes on. But the devel coaches would know their own player extremely well and get the utmost out of each player at an individual level.
Then of course there's the team as a whole. That's what the senior coach should solely focus on and get right, 100% right.
I hope all that made sense (I know it does in my noggin).
