It was along looooooooong trip, plenty of tears and scrapes along the way but the move to Melbourne from the sticks up there in Brissy has finally been achieved.
Drove past punt road oval the other day, and WOW :clapping :bow what an amazing sight it was.
Simply awesome to be back home again.
Lets go Tigers bring on the footy season FAST!
:cheers One and all :thumbsup

Footy is great for Melbourne, but apart from that the place is a poo hole.
Tell me about it. I thinking of moving away somewhere pleasant. Tehran, Douala (Cameroon), Tripoli, Karachi, Algiers, Harare, Lagos, Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea), Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Damascus etc.

So do the mozzies.

Ain't too many cities around the world that are as varied and livable as Melbs. Fantastic city.
Ungrateful sods don't know how good they've got it.
-
ah history learn from it or be doomed to repeat the mistakes of those who went before us.
the lessons are there, they repeat over and over and over but theres always those idealists who think mankind will change.
greedy, despotic, power hungry, zealousy and many other things like these describe man thru the ages. no matter what has gone before they remain a constant. only the way they express themselves change.
history teaches us some things are irreconsilable and no matter how much some dont want it to be that way it is the way it is.
-
Snip! Leave the political toe-to-toe stuff for the politics thread.
Now back to the topic.

Yep,
Melbourne is poo,
Even though its varied as Willy noted, its still poo.
Footy there is great though.
-
Why is it poo?
Where do you live and what makes unpooworthy?

Really, last I heard it was voted worlds most livable city for a second year in a row ::)
-
I think Melbourne is a fantastic city. I was born in Melbourne and lived there for 16 years and if I could uproot the family and land a decent Job I'd be there in a heartbeat. Give me Melbourne over Sydney any day. But I guess it all depends on where you live in Melbourne. I grew up in Caulfield and spent most of my time between there and Brighton so it was a pretty nice area to live in. I would give my eye teeth to again see the Tigers play regularly at the G. Last time I did that I was sitting on timber seats in the Southern stand, eating a Four n' twenty doused in white Crow. :thumbsup

Paris was fantastic, and Florence is one of the few cities in the world I could happily live in.
:cheers
But I would miss the Football. :lol
-
I was born smack in the centre of Melbourne (old Queen Vic hospital) and lived there for all but 5 of my childhood years but moved to country Vic when I was 18 and then interstate when 31. After living in many other cities I couldn't go back to Melbourne now - I only enjoy going back for the footy, although I agree with Tiga that it's a much better city to live in than Sydney. Biggest plus for Melbourne apart from the footy = trams.

Hated Paris but loved southern France; Lyon in particular
One of my favourites is Berlin, magnificant place, culturally diverse like Melb :clapping :clapping

Darwin at present '65 but we've been fairly nomadic in recent times so who knows for the future. I love it here and could stay a while but I don't make any of the decisions in my house! :help ;D

I have lived in Perth for the past 25 years....but love Melbourne .
Every time I return to WA after visiting Melbourne it feels like I am returning to redneck wonderland.
Only downside to Melbourne is your terrifying hook turns which I still don't understand no matter how many times it is explained to me.
We do have wonderful beaches over here though ......only have to look out for those pesty Great white sharks.
-

I think he did Snake eyes. Smokey was one of those little kiddies they forced into the coal mines and he had continual issues with "The Black Lung". He got his nickname because people thought he was a 5 year old with a pack a day habit (not uncommon in his early days) but in actual fact it was......"The Black Lung!" ;D
-
been to new York, LA, Kuala Lumpar, aukland, Papeete , Suva and I tellya none of them I repeat none of them can hold a candle to MELBOURNE, it aint voted worlds most liveable city for nothing... :clapping

People who slag off their their hometown town are missing the point. Look in the hall of mirrors - it's not the city that has the problem....

Yep, this is when Melbourne is at its best; summer time.
Beautiful summer climate.
Beautiful suburban beaches, beautiful sand.
Oh wait on a minute it was 40 degrees a minute ago, and here comes the lovely cool southerly freeze.
Footy is good there though.
-
Yeah we hate the cool change, oh how I'd love a Dubai like climate 40+ 24/7 ::)
-
Outer surburbia that just goes on and on can be the pits especially with its inadequate public transport but inner Melbourne is great. When you live overseas you realise how lucky we are back home to have such variety and choice in our culture.
Speaking of public transport - German cities like Berlin and Munich put Melbourne's to shame as they continual invest $$$ in theirs - S-bahn, U-bahn, trams and buses.
-
Forward planning logical Germans :banghead
Why don't they sell off everything they own and make short term decision like us

Because backward thinking Aussies vote from election to election.
The swinging voters are back pocket thinkers.
-
It don't matter what the city and suburbs are like cos the footy is here.
Whether you like Melbourne or not is totally and utterly irrelevant.
This is the Home of the Mighty Tigers, and I'm here to see us win the big one.
I couldn't give a rats clacker if the city shuts down for good.
Cos I'm here to support the greatest club in the history of any universe known or unknown to mankind, the RICHMOND TIGERS.
I will make this city be what ever I want it to be so stuff the rest of the world.
I'm pumped to the eyeballs and the season hasn't even started yet.
It's gonna be AWEEEEEEEEEEESOME :gotigers
I just can't wait for the opening bounce of the first game we play, and I'm gonna be there.
Go you mighty Tigers kill em all :thumbsup
-
Spot on 1980, we agree.
All my posts have said exactly the same.
Melbourne is poo and the footy is great.
Eat em alive Tiges!
-
People who slag off their their hometown town are missing the point. Look in the hall of mirrors - it's not the city that has the problem....
People who repeatedly slag off their home town and football club probably spend too much time looking in the mirror :yep

I also live in Melbourne and thinks it's the best place in the world. I have travelled a fair bit around the world and the only other place I would even entertain living is NYC. Awesome place that never stops.
I also lived in Perth for a year while growing up and that was great but nothing compares to home. It's not the beaches, the footy, the girls or the transport. The greatest place in the world is where your family and friends are. Being able to combine footy, family and friends is even better. :cheers
