It's time to go ...
Shaun Grigg
Shane Edwards
Jake King
Chris Newman
Ricky Petterd
Orren Stephenson
We WILL NEVER be a good consistent team with these players playing. Newman has been a good servant, all other players are C-D grade players that HAVE NO ABILITY AND CAPABILITY to improve as players and help Richmond.
TIME to blood young cubs! play Lennon, Lloyd, Arnot, McD, Helbig.
Shane Edwards either plays close to goal or doesn't play at all!
-
Yet they are all favourites of the senior coach

Agree with this and you can put these guys on notice: Chaplin & Houli

The losses will keep coming and our coach will be feeling the pressure and will give in either way.

the heat has been ratcheted up 10 fold since we lost to Footscray.
Hardwick is falling for the same poo all previous coaches fell for and it cost them their jobs and it will him his and that is he has favorites who play week in week out irrespective of their crap performances. In the end its not my job its his but if Hardwick isnt smart enough to get rid of these blokes then he deserves to lose his job.

When has this guy ever stood up when he needed to? Even Griif seized the moment and kicked a 55m goal from the boundary. He made a stupid ruck infringement that led to a goal for them to in the last.
The guy has no brains.

Great comment but what does that say about the club. History repeats and consigned to failure AGAIN? :banghead

A team without dimmas golden children:
Deledio. Grimes. Morris.
McDonuts. Rance. McIntosh
Ellis. Vlastuin. Gordon.
Martin. Griffiths. Cotchin.
McBean. Riewoldt. Lennon
Maric. Conca. Arnot.
Knights. Thomas. Jackson. Hampson.
Miles. Helbig. Lloyd. Helbig. Bannfield
Not the most pretty of teams. But it'd be nice to see a richmond side without: Grigg. Houli. Pettard. Chaplin. King. Newman...
-
Let's hope by Round 8 that McBean and Lloyd are playing inside F50
-
Lennon. Knights. Mcdonuts. Bannfield? A look in, also :-\
-
I have said for the past 5 years that Vickory is an imposter
Jumping into the back of Minson yesterday was an absolute disgrace for a AFL player
-
I was glad to see the back of Foley...now its time to say goodbye to king and Newman.
-
I consider myself to be a tolerant man. A good man. A kind man.
But eff me we need to permanently pee Newman, King and Pettard right off.

Its prob Newman's last year, he's never been a great player, but he has been a loyal servant to the club, who was Captain during an incredibly painful time for the club. Lets give him his due and not hoe into him.

Agree 100%
Add Chaplin to the main list. Dud. Can't remember seeing him taking the main forward ever. Paying him 400 to be 2nd or 3rd backman.

Who are Dimmas love children?
Grigg
Vickery
Who else?
Peeves me off that he calls out Ellis and Coca after round 1 yet never calls out Grigg or Vickery.

Houli
Edwards
Jackson (yeah yeah B& F last year but if he played 10 shockers in a row Hardwick still wouldn't drop him)
Rance (see Jackson)
Newman
He might have called them out but he won't drop any first round picks who need a kick up the arse either, like Ellis & Conca. Loathe to drop any recycled player or free agent like Thomas, Petterd & Chaplin as that would discredit the precious "moneyball" theory.

Agree with Morris too but Astbury? Hardly.
Think King may have lost his favoured son status too after all the off-season "drama" and the 12 game clause in his contract. Not upgrading Banfield is keeping him in the side atm IMO.

Included Astbury because of the way Dimma has spoken about him at functions I've been at. Pretty clear listening to it that if Astbury had been fit over he last couple of years he would be played no matter what. Last year although he only played a few games but got selected ahead of others who had better form at VFL level - again just my opinion.
Can I add that over the last couple of years people have heaped praise on Blair Hartley and his list management, targeting certain players. But we need to acknowledge he is the main person behind the targeting of Grigg, Houli and Chaplin.
Perhaps Hartley is another one who's position needs to be seriously looked at? Just putting it out there for discussion.

Finally someone else who reckons that Hartley has got off lightly. Anyone can go and recruit players like Grigg and Houli, Hartley gets praised but for what ... where are the big names or the big stars who can impact matches and win games for us. Nowhere ....

These guys just won't be contributors if we have a tilt at the flag. Suffocating the list. Should be replaced by the likes of Lloyd, Miles, Lennon, Gordon and McDonough - all of whom look like they're shown a bit. Really need Miles especially IMO, bloke has shown some skill and mongrel.
Need O for times like this when we have no Maric or Hampson. Honestly you can't expect Griffiths and Vickery to ruck all night against a dude like Minson. He'll just destroy them.

cmon ramps reckon im the only one who has regularly questioned both hartley overall and jackson.
on astbury and griffiths. long way to go still but for me they are two of the few positives out of the season so far.
im going to ask again do we go allout to win games or take a step backwards play more kids and probably have to endure some thrashings in the short term.
i think we have to at least remain competetive.
i think its been very clear what we need to do as far as list management goes but lets not do a melbourne and throw all of the experince out in one go.
if i was to name a very competetive side for the rest of the yr and hope for finals with one eye on development id want to see us go something like this.
FB: Morris - Chaplin - Grimes, the sad truth is chaplin is our best bet atm up against the bigger forwards. For sure we need to look at phasing him out but there is no replacement atm imo.
HB: Vlastuin - Astbury - Rance. if dea mcintosh and even helbig can show enough id really like us to give em some blocks of games.imo rance and grimes are competing for a spot.
FOLL: Maric - Thomas - Cotchin. thomas as long as he can maintain the current level is almost irreplacable. he has tucks job and hes doing it well.
MID: Deledio - Martin - Ellis. sort of speaks for itself.
HF: Knights - Griffiths - Gordon. think knights a good player and its only injury that is an issue, gordon looks likely and needs to be played. griffiths is the improver.
FF: Hampson - Riewoldt - Lloyd. No vickery, hampson as a second ruck is logical, we have to find a sml goalkicking fwd we have to see what lloyd has to offer.
INT: Lennon -Miles - Conca - Jackson
EMG: Arnot - Mcbean - Elton - Mcdonough
i reckon the above side would keep us competetive because we maintain maturity and experience along with good structure and size. it also allows us to phase out very quickly the likes of.
king, newman, s edwards, foley, grigg, houli, petterd and reluctantly vickery..all are regulars. it allows us to play and have a good look at younger fringe players and lastly it would allow us to get games and experience into some of the juniors.
i ask myself what are we really losing by dropping those 8 players imo it isnt a hell of a lot lost and its quite possible we could make gains in a very short space of time.
imo we

good posting as usual claw - agree with the above. I'd play McDonough in the starting 22 who I rate highly, but that's no big difference as you have him as emergency.
Along with persisting with half glass full players like grigg, petterd and edwards, the biggest issue I see is the game plan. It's mega static and conservative and doesn't promote run and spread when we have the ball to support the ball carrier, and doesn't promote an open forward line for leading forwards to lead into. Hardwicks game plan is all about winning contests, getting the ball forward quickly, locking it in, congesting the forward line, winning the forward 50 stoppages and scrambling goals. it does not promote free flowing attacking football where players can develop and flourish. We are stifling the development of our players - conca being a perfect example who's only instinct now is to dive head first into packs.

I almost entirely agree with this team.
Some points
# can you outline the reasoning you do not rate mcdonuts?
# Chaplin. Why do you consider grimes and alexRance to be fighting for one spot? Yet Chaplin is awarded a position.
Chaplin is listed as only one cm taller than rance. Im not convicted Chaplin is any better than rance in regards to playing on power forwards.
# if Vickery is dropped I would expect Maric to play predominately forward and Hampson ruck. I cannot remember Hampson kicking many goals. Apart from games against Richmond. Whee does McBean fit in?
Overall however it's a much more healthy looking side IMO
-
In fairness Hartley is doing what he is told to do. Recruit guys on the cheap. Rookie guys for depth. He doesn't pick them in the 22 over young kids on a weekly basis.
-
They should get rid of Troy Chaplin and try and get Kristian Jacksch out of GWS for half the money. Jacksh is a big lad who could hold down CHB in my opinion.
-
Grigg
King
Petterd
Stephenson
S.Edwards

spot on. Managed right we'd be so well off if we had these types in the reserves putting heat on our young guys to keep their spot in the senior 22. That's when recruiting like this would be working optimally. As it is, like you've mentioned in another thread, Dimma will always play these guys to prove he was right targeting them.

And the ressies wouldn't be getting done by 150

Grigg

Petterd is not up to scratch. Grigg's lack of defensive pressure means he is not suited to the way the game has developed. King is at the end of his career as is Newman. Need to try youth-eg O'Hanlon and McDonough. S. Edwards is at the cross roads again. Stephenson was okay against the Dogs but he is only a fill in and because of his age he won't stay on much longer.
