Moving onto this weekend ...
Preview: North Melbourne v Richmond
Nick Bowen
afl.com.au
June 4, 2014 1:00 PM
THIS match-up looks a one-sided affair on paper, but the result will very much depend on which North Melbourne and which Richmond turns up. The Roos were very impressive in their win over West Coast last Sunday night, but have usually followed their big wins this season with losses, notably turning in a flat performance against Gold Coast after their round six trip to Perth. The Tigers were dismal in their 50-point loss to Essendon in the Dreamtime at the 'G game last Saturday night, so won't lack for motivation. There is also the suspicion they will regain their 2013 form at some stage this season. If they do this Sunday night, we're in for a great contest.
WHERE AND WHEN: Etihad Stadium, Sunday June 8, 7.10pm
LAST FIVE TIMES
R15, 2013, North Melbourne 19.14 (128) d Richmond 8.18 (66) at Etihad Stadium
R17, 2012, North Melbourne 15.13 (103) d Richmond 14.15 (99) at MCG
R24, 2011, North Melbourne 15.14 (104) d Richmond 13.13 (91) at Etihad Stadium
R5, 2011, Richmond 17.10 (112) d North Melbourne 14.19 (103) at Etihad Stadium
R16, 2010, North Melbourne 15.13 (103) d Richmond 7.11 (53) at MCG

THE SIX POINTS
1. North has a good record against Richmond at Etihad Stadium, having won seven of their 10 games there, with the Tigers' last win in 2011.
2. North has been impressive by foot this season, boasting a disposal efficiency of 73.2 per cent (ranked fourth in the competition). Richmond is ranked equal sixth with a disposal efficiency of 72.4 per cent.
3. Despite North's solid start to the season, it is ranked 17th in the AFL for marks inside 50, averaging 8.7 a game, while the struggling Tigers are ranked fifth with an average of 12.4 a game.
4. Only Melbourne has had fewer interchange rotations in 2014 with the Roos averaging 103 a game. By comparison, Richmond is averaging 114 rotations a game, ranked 14th in the AFL.
5. The biggest individual goal haul between the sides is 14, kicked by Richmond's Doug Strang in round two, 1931, at Punt Rd Oval, a tally that remains a club record.
6. When these teams last met in round 15 last year, North players dominated the scores in the Official AFL Player Ratings, brought to you by Gatorade. Brent Harvey (23.3 points), Robbie Tarrant (20.3), Andrew Swallow (17.6) and Levi Greenwood (17.1) were the game's leading scorers, with Matt White (now at Port Adelaide) the highest-scoring Tiger (16.1)
Prediction: North Melbourne by 11 points

Then we will just have to have Jackson Chicken Wing him again ;D

Just saw on AFL360 Andrew Swallow 150th game.
Another milestone game for North against us.
We are fornicated. Hello big loss. :help
-
Just trying to find something ( anything) to make a case for Richmond and here it is.....
Last time North had a solid win over in Perth they were embarrassed the following week.
That is all.
-
I'm already depressed and embarrassed for our side soon to be performance
The usual suspects in Grigg, Houli, Hampson, Shed will have shockers
-
I just heard Scott's presser on sen, said he expects Richmond to come out breathing fire "which they've said publicly"
these teams must seriously laugh at our club behind closed doors

Gene Simmons to be unveiled as our new full forward.
Knowing us though we'll send him to the game with blood capsules instead of the fire stick and he'll have to keep coming off.

U know something?
I really hate this poo club, poo list(including some of our so called "elite" players) and poo coaches.
So much in fact that I have begun to hope they lose, so i can see the feigned dejection on their little, overpaid faces.
It's equally rewarding watch that idiot coach scramble for answers in his pressers.
Call me all the cliches - disloyal dog etc.
The bigger cokcheads can even hurl a "go and barrack for someone else."
LMAO.
Its these kind of imbeciles that are content with being losers, much like the mentality of the list. :thumbsup

lol I understand where youre coming from, when I keep hearing this garbage from our captain and coach I get the feeling that their heads are up their arses and they honestly have NFI that they are way behind the 8ball - at which point I hope we get smashed so that they can finally wake the stuff up, smell the cheese and actually do something about it.
You cant fix a problem if you don't think there is a problem or you under estimate the problem..

Hear hear Ox....its the constant unquestioning acceptance of low standards that keeps us in the poohouse. Carrying on last year like we won a stuffing flag and the job was done. Many of the same knobs who carried on like we were top 4 material at the end of 2008 due to our "best 9th ever".
A smart club would be calculated & ruthless from this point, but watch as we once again repeat past mistakes and rack up the meaningless wins to weaken our draft position and negotiating power, watch the apologists come out of the woodwork talking bollocks about "proof of our quality list" & "instilling a winning culture" as we finish 10th with a bullet. Watch as we desperately look for short-term fixes again and trade out of the draft instead of back into it. Watch as we delist the likes of Arnot & Darrou and give another contract extension to Newman. Watch as we sit on our hands while highly sought after assistants are snapped up by other clubs. Watch a club that still can't walk & chew gum at the same time.
Tigers - dumber than hamsters.

Tigers are tough to assess, says Brad Scott
Alana Schetzer
The Age
June 6, 2014
Richmond has pledged to come out firing in its match against a resurgent North Melbourne on Saturday night, adding seven players to its squad as it attempts to find consistent winning form.
The Tigers were forced to leave out four players due to injury, with Dylan Grimes (toe), Shaun Grigg (hamstring), Daniel Jackson (hip) and Reece Conca (groin) all non-starters. Into the squad comes Jake Batchelor, Brad Helbig, Brett O'Hanlon, Anthony Miles, Nick Vlastuin, Ricky Petterd and Ty Vickery.
Coach Damien Hardwick said focusing on a strong workrate around contested possessions and tackles would be a key to avoiding a repeat of its heavy loss against Essendon last weekend.
''Talk is cheap; we have to make sure we deliver on the field and that's something we haven't done for the majority of the season,'' he said.
''We've just got to make sure we get the game on terms rather than letting them dictate play. If you let the Kangaroos dictate play, you're going to get hurt on the scoreboard.
''The great thing about our game is that we get another chance to prove to ourselves that we're better than what we were last week.''
North Melbourne enjoyed a strong performance against West Coast last week and coach Brad Scott said it was difficult to assess the Tigers' threat, saying they've proven to be a capable team.
''Even in games they haven't won, they play some pretty attractive and devastating footy at times,'' he said. ''We're really conscience of the fact that at their best they can move the footy really quickly and can be quite damaging. We expect them to come out breathing fire.''
Hardwick was adamant it was essential his team got their ''potency up forward firing and going in the right direction'' from the opening bounce.
''[The Roos] attack really hard back-half but they play an exciting brand of footy … we'll be defensively trying to impact the scoreboard ourselves,'' he said.
Scott said his team could not afford to underestimate Richmond and that a second consecutive win was crucial if the club was to become a good team.
''I think that the pressure's on us to become a good team and good teams are consistent and do it regardless of circumstance. We haven't been able to do that yet,'' he said.
The Kangaroos have won their past two games against Richmond. In their last clash - in round 15 last year - the Roos won by 62 points.

By the way, James Brayshaw on the Footy Show last night waved around his "certainty" card in tipping his Roos. Sadly, we're in such bad form, we'll miss a chance to make a fool of a over-cocky opposition club president ::).

too many injuries, in poohouse form... we will win.

Houli to Foley and he hits Jack on the lead. Misses :-\.
Should have kicked that.

OOTF. Griffs from the boundary but he misses as well.
2 - 0

Griffs marks the kick-in 51m out. Goes back to Vickery to Ellis to Morris and we get a 50. Not buying real estate from this umpire ::). Morris 25m out. Goal :gotigers

North turnover from good pressure. Jack blazes though and sneaks a point.

We still can't get a mark inside forward 50.
-
Don't care if we lose if we keep punching those soulless pricks up.
-
So Swallow gets rid of the ball illegally = no free but Thomas gets pinged under a pack ::).
-
Typical nothing North gameplan. Flood back and then counterattack off half-back.
-
If we could hit a target inside 50 we would be 3-4 goals up.
-
Best quarter we have played in yonks....loving kbtv.
-
Turnover mark by Thomas 35m out. Goal :gotigers

Where has this intensity been all year? Hope we keep it up.

-
Geeze the blond umpire has been screwing us big time.
-
Where has this intensity been all year? Hope we keep it up.
Faux toughness.
-
Just get the feeling we just fired our best shot but only up by a point.
They seemed to score their goals too easily.
Hope I am wrong but it would not surprise me if the Roos opened up a half time lead of 3-4 goals.
-
Intensity had been great. You can see it.
If we could use the footy we'd have st least 3 more goals.
1. Pettard hit a target
2. Thomas FFS when we are on the break going fwd get out of Lids way please.
-
We came out all fired up and at least tackled hard and moved the ball directly and quickly and should've been at least 3-4 goals up after the first 20 mins. Then the momentum swung to North in time-on. Need to go again Tiges and keep it up.
Frees: 13 - 6 in North's favour ::).
-
Just get the feeling we just fired our best shot but only up by a point.

Hope I am wrong but it would not surprise me if the Roos opened up a half time lead of 3-4 goals.
You get that feeling y&b. if our intensity drops off they'll be all over us because we can't use the footy.
-
More frees already than the whole of Friday night's game ::).
-
That's why you get dropped TV. Get in bloody front and present.
-
We've gone back to slow footy as our team workrate has dropped off. North 6 inside 50s this qtr already. Lucky they are only scoring points.
-
Houli around the body and Titch gets his first touch. 20m out. Goal :gotigers
Back in front.
Rich 28
NM 24

Flossy out of the centre to Houli but Firrito touches it through.
We get it back and Dusty soccers a goal :gotigers
Rich 35
NM 24

Miles free to Cotch to Titch 52m out. Goes to the top of square. Hansen marks it but ump says Thompson pushed Vickery. Goal :gotigers

Good work Morris gets it onto Lids who spears to Dusty 47m out on a tight angle. Finds Maric. Still a tough kick. Goal :gotigers
That's 5 straight.
Rich 53
NM 24
-
What was Dea meant to do ump?
-
Thank you umpire ::). Gifts North a goal ::).
53 - 30

Haha Majak. Forgot he had to bounce the ball. Cost North a certain goal.

Enjoy your enforced holiday Thompson you dirty prick! Got outmarked and then whacked Jack in the head.

Richmond 3.4 10.6-66
North Melb. 3.3 4.7-31
Goals: Martin 4, Riewoldt, Vickery, Thomas, Maric, Morris, Edwards.

Been great this quarter y&b. Defensive pressure has been first class this year.
Chocco on the bench tonight. :shh
Where the eff has this been all year. :-\
-
stuff half time, its our greatest enemy.
-
Fantastic , exciting, and exhilarating football Tigers.....loving every minute of it.
-
Not sure Tucker but pressure does "funny" things to the opposition doesn't it Dimma? :lol
-
Where the eff has this been all year. :-\
With ya Don where has it been?
Sitting here thinking geez im angry
shouldnt have to wait 11 weeks
-
Happy with miles. Dea. Mcdonuts etc
-
BTW Firrito is a gutless sniper
probably why he is playing for N0rt
-
I love duzzy
-
No bruise-free chip chip footy makes a difference. More old school footy tonight - winning the hard ball and then going direct by foot to the top of the goalsquare which is putting North's back six under a heap of pressure. It was worrying in the first 5 mins of that second qtr but we were able to get one against the run of play and then pleasingly made North pay on the scoreboard once we got back the momentum.
-
BTW Firrito is a gutless sniper
probably why he is playing for N0rt
Not often that WP gets emotive. Unless we play NOrt. ;D
-
That's the standard that we know we are capable of and the standard that should be expected.
Can't rely on emotion every game but it's nice to see a fair bit of ticker tonight.
Our fitness will be tested next half we went 100% for the whole first half. North have come off a WA trip which will help us.
Without being negative where has this been? Why does it take being 3-6 to have to put in a committed performance. Frustrating but happy to see some good signs.
Big help having 22 players that don't look to be carrying injuries too.
Smashing in contested ball and tackles which is what Dimma loves.
Good to see. Bring it home lads.
-
How nice would it be to have a nice "stress free" victory...crack open a beer at 3/4 time and enjoy the slaughter
-
Where the eff has this been all year. :-\
With ya Don where has it been?
Sitting here thinking geez im angry

That's pretty much the sentiment but there is always a caveat with us. :-\
Let's just hope they wake up to themselves and use this first half as the norm not the exception.

Hey that makes two of us. ;D
-
Grigg free makes a nice change
-
Now Tiges you need to back it up again. We don't need our post-half-time sleeping session and gift North the first couple of goals.
Majak Daw subbed off by North btw.

Or make Nahas look like a player. :-\

This is what you get when you allow a team of boys become Pansy's.
You teach boys how to play hard footy that's conducive to finals type footy & You breed a team of hard arses that won't poo there pants when it gets tough.
This mob are a bunch of Sheila's & Hardwick has allowed this to happen.

I don't reckon we've been AFL fit all season but that was as much about lack of character and poor attitude as anything else. That qtr was as bad as anything dished up last week in the Essendon game. Too many Tiges want to pick and choose when to work and to what level as if intensity, momentum and form can be switched on like a light switch. Disgraceful.
-
Now u watch the NORF players absolutely give it to our players verbally and physically this final qtr, they will go to town on our comments about coming out hard and hitting them hard and al that cheap talk crap we're so good at.

Is there anything more embarrassing than being a Richmond supporter? Why do we do it. Why do they do it? How can one club be so inept?

A very good comparison. Up by 33 points at 3/4 time in the Eagles' first game - lost; Up by 52 pts vs the Pies early last qtr and lost , etc.

I missed the first half. Saw the score and was pleasantly surprised. A quarter later and its business as usual for the tiges.

WTF is up with these scumpires??? :banghead :banghead :banghead
Fair dinkum, I have seen some shocking displays over the years but this has been as bad as ANY of them. We've just been bent over and butt-reamed by them from the first quarter on, ALL NIGHT LONG. When we were six goals up at 1/2 time I said we were in front despite them. It's lucky I'm not at the ground or I swear I'd have jumped the fence and landed a good few punches into no. 16's head before the security dragged me down. And you know what? The satisfaction of hearing his blind eye socket crunch under my fists would be worth every cent of the fine. Fair dinkum, I'm that angry!!!!!
-
We've given away 8 frees inside North's forward 50. North have only given away 2 in our forward line.
Goldstein has had 8 hitouts to advantage in the second half to Maric's 2.

hardwick about to tell us we were mediocre instead of crap
-
You have to look at our fitness after a turnaround like that, endeavor was there but they just could not sustain it. Also as the fitness went so did the skills. Nahas probably gave the speech at halftime saying that we would from his experience just run out of puff, he was right.
-
look at north so happy.
do we hurt when we lose?

It wasn't jacks fault we leaked like a sieve, blame the live time defense and defensive efforts of the mids.

The umpires should not pay any of those sissy's any free kicks till they learn how to be footy proper footy players.
The joke is the RFC...always making everyone cry laughing.
-
First half - we had 51 extra uncontested possies.
Second half - we had 32 less uncontested possies.
So a 83 turnaround.
------------------------------------------------
Goldstein had 16 hitouts to advantage to Maric's 5.
--------------------------------------------------
Lloyd on 3aw said Richmond players looked unfit in that second half. Martin, Foley, Miles and others who were dominant in the first half and had plenty of the ball went missing after half-time. Also said it's no point the leaders/senior players talking at breaks when they go missing in action when it counts in failing to stop a run on and are ill-disciplined.
-
It wasn't jacks fault we leaked like a sieve, blame the live time defense and defensive efforts of the mids.

Dimmas facial expression was very similar to your avatar in that 3rd qtr.
Hope he had a colostomy bag on.

Only Richmond can pull off a 60+ point swing........
-
Watching the first qtr again.
The pressure we put on was insanely fierce. Top teams sustain it. Weak teams don't - like us. Fitness is a huge issue. As well as leg speed.

We have just watched the biggest match fixing event in the history of VFL/AFL football, Thats all l'm going to say about this game.

I'd agree with this. I've can't remember a more 1 sided game in terms of umpiring. Cliche but an honest assessment.
Don't care if it would have changed the result or not. Doesn't change the fact we have huge issues which is what I am most concerned with.
Performance aside which I put down to lack of Plan B and awful conditioning, worst umpire game in recent memory.
-
We were terrific in the first half but the second half was terrible. The umpires killed us but to be honest deep down we all know we arent good enough to be any good. Everyone at Richmond FC is kidding themselves if they think they have even a competitive list. We have a crap list. We are a nowhere club and we are on the road to no where. That is all. I just feel sad for all the supporters thats all.
-
Tonight was Tony Jewell pulling out your hair stuff. It's over Dimma...So so over.
-
But hey......we're just not playing the standard of football we are capable of. And we have to figure out why. we're all in this together.

what was the crowd tonight. looked like many more Norf supporters than Tigers supporters their as well. I think our supporters are starting to walk away from the club. The last vestige of hope is finally turning against the club. I just want to congratulate the RFC administration on this fine achievement. Wankers!

Crowd was 32,977. Yep the Southern Cross railroad end of the stadium was quite full with Nought fans unlike other years were there were huge gaps of empty bays.
Our fans hate Etihad yet when we are on fire ie beat St Kilda in 2012 we got 49337 that night.

just to be fair and to be honest. i was pleased at half time. i thought for the first time all yr they had a real crack. but even then there was the feeling that they nm would come back and we could fold. its happened too often for me to not think this.
the way we just folded was and dropped off so much was gut wrenching, no wonder people are angry.
-
Very disappointing second half. Not sure what the answer is. Our list isn't great but surely they couldn't of dropped off from last year this badly without a genuine issue whether it be not understanding the game plan or something.

Thought Lennon was very average too. Needs to go back to the 2s

Yes blame the kid and bring back Grigg. With such insight you should coach Richmond.
-
My expectation was we would lose by 5-6 goals last night
What was dissapointing was from halftime onwards, but I expected a loss so thats it.
Ive seen a few homophobic and petrol sniffing remarks, im dissapointed. Most of you are better than that especially with some of the quality ive read here over the years I didnt think the trick bag would be so barron you would have to use those lines...
I guess the RFC brings out the worst in people :facepalm

I never said we lost because of the umpires. We lost because we stopped running after 1/2 time, and panicked when the opposition turned up the heat, as we more or less have done for the last 30 odd years. But that still doesn't detract from the fact that those whistle-fellating maggots had an agenda against us last night from the opening bounce to the final siren.
The joke is the RFC...always making everyone cry laughing.

tap tap tap....the eggshell cracked once again
-
That number 28 for North looked pretty good .....kicked a couple of nice goals. We could use a player with his zip on our forward line.
-
By the way, James Brayshaw on the Footy Show last night waved around his "certainty" card in tipping his Roos. Sadly, we're in such bad form, we'll miss a chance to make a fool of a over-cocky opposition club president ::).
Did he realllllllllly, watch the tigers gobble that up and spit it right out, bad mistake JB :booboo :boredom :highclap

You know what I take that back, he did pull out of a contest at least once....need to teach him early on that it's not acceptable, like we should've with Ellis......like to give kids a good run but when they start taking short steps you have to make exceptions and send them a message.....yep send him back....just not for Grigg....
