Richmond captain Trent Cotchin says improving his endurance will be a major focus in season 2015 as the Tigers look to charge up the ladder.
Cotchin, who inked a five-year deal with the club last week, told Tim Lane and Dean Jones that playing in the midfield was only getting harder.
“Every midfielder in the AFL just seems to get fitter every year,” Cotchin said on Sports Today.
“Along with the rotation cap as well, endurance is important.”
Cotchin said he would continue to focus on improving the defensive side of his game.
“Our group has come a long way offensively and defensively but we still have a way to go,” he said.
“I had a real focus on my defensive actions last year and it will continue to be a focus this season, along with endurance.
“I think it’s important, especially when you’re leading a club coming through the ranks, that you’re able to be acting on exactly what you’re trying to deliver with the message.
“If I’m doing the right thing, then I can pull others into line when they’re not.”
Cotchin said he didn’t hesitate committing to the Tigers for the next five years.
“Most importantly, I just wanted to show the faith to the people that have supported me through the early stages of my career, along with showing our young group that it is ok to make a commitment to a team that we believe in,” he said.
“Hopefully we can take some big steps forward again next year.”

More from Cotch's interview:
* The Townsville camp was challenging at times, both physically and mentally, but credit to the group. Everyone stuck strong. We had an element of just training in the heat like a normal week with a few added sessions here and there. Obviously when you’re away with your team-mates there’s an opportunity to do a little bit more training than when you’re at the club. We did an amazing race for the last three days which had a lot of different elements, some physical, some mental, even down to basic maths problems which some of the boys struggled with. It was a great camp. A lot of the boys got great benefits from it. The most important thing was we didn’t have any injuries, so a lot of people are confident with their durability.

Or whether he is a Mormon or not...
-
FFS honestly what do you expect him to say, do you think other captains say anything different
-
Say nothing, just get out there and do it, like most other Captains.
-
Well there you go, I thought other captains did press releases with content as well, but at their press releases they just say nothing
Case closed
-
Yep there you go.
-
but then what would you bitch about wat?
-
Its hard to sell your club when you take a vow of slience.

Sydney are probably the best midfield I've seen - in regards to running forward, then running backward when the ball is lost and repeating the process
I remember the game in Sydney (Syd won by a lot), only Chimp did this out of the yellow and black. Hence he can say what he likes imo
From memory pettard played on Jesse white dimma :bow

The chimp keeps bringing the monkey magic, we just need some of the others to pull the digits out

More from Cotch's interview ...
* We’ve moved forward from that (the final v Port). We definitely reviewed it, as disappointing as it was. But we’ve gone in with the attitude that we’re going to focus on the now. Our next session’s the most important one and if we’re doing all those really well, that’s going to hold us in good stead for the future. There are a lot of things that went wrong on that day but the reality is it’s been done and we’ve learned our lessons. Hopefully, we can take bigger steps forward next year and make sure that it doesn’t happen again.
