8 December, 2014 - 7:40 PMRichmond captain Trent Cotchin says improving his endurance will be a major focus in season 2015 as the Tigers look to charge up the ladder.
Cotchin, who inked a five-year deal with the club last week, told Tim Lane and Dean Jones that playing in the midfield was only getting harder.
“Every midfielder in the AFL just seems to get fitter every year,” Cotchin said on Sports Today.
“Along with the rotation cap as well, endurance is important.”
Cotchin said he would continue to focus on improving the defensive side of his game.
“Our group has come a long way offensively and defensively but we still have a way to go,” he said.
“I had a real focus on my defensive actions last year and it will continue to be a focus this season, along with endurance.
“I think it’s important, especially when you’re leading a club coming through the ranks, that you’re able to be acting on exactly what you’re trying to deliver with the message.
“If I’m doing the right thing, then I can pull others into line when they’re not.”
Cotchin said he didn’t hesitate committing to the Tigers for the next five years.
“Most importantly, I just wanted to show the faith to the people that have supported me through the early stages of my career, along with showing our young group that it is ok to make a commitment to a team that we believe in,” he said.
“Hopefully we can take some big steps forward again next year.”
