Really looking forward to this weekend.

Newbies, youngster and couple of long termers returning from injury.   :clapping

Result doesn't matter, just looking forward to seeing the squad play

Forget the big World Cup show down between us and the kiwis - the highlight of my weekend is watching the big Hammer go around again .

We showed great form pre-season last year and it meant zippo when the season proper started.

Practice matches are just that practice matches. They are worth nothing

Damn straight Aitch Artie me old china, anything less than a 10 goal victory and I'll be calling for Hardwick & FJ's immediate resignations and if you really care about the club you will be too....

i sort of agree in the following sense.

while its great the kids get to play and lets be real they all would get 1 game at least,  id rather we spread the talent around a bit more. we want the kids to have the best possible chance to shine and gain confidence.  playing basically a reserves side wont allow for that. good structure good game plan actually trying to implement what we want to do and a decent spread of of talent and experience is whats needed.
call me a cynic but i can see it now, this week a hiding  and an excuse why not to play kids, and next week the better players return with most of dimmas favorites  a better result and whammo there you have it our team for the start of the yr.

As always Clawski knows best. And what do ya know, its exactly the opposite of what the club does.

I'm guessing the team will look something like this with players in similar roles substituted on and off at half-time. For example, Hunt plays a half as the run with role and then swaps with Grigg.

B:  Morris    Astbury   Batchelor
HB:  Dea      Elton     Vlastuin
C:  Lennon    Hunt      Lambert
HF: Knights   McBean  Menadue
F:  McDonough Vickery  Gordon
R:  Hampson   Miles     Edwards
Int/subs: Grimes, Grigg, Petterd, Lloyd, Arnot, Butler, Drummond, McKenzie, Short, Castagna

I'm keen to see how Dea performs. I haven't seen anything as yet that has shown that he is worth persisting with but the club seems to love him and gave him the number 7 jumper.  :facepalm

I was thinking the same thing MT.

The nuffies on here demanding victories for meaningless matches....

The season is a marathon.  There is no use sprinting the first mile of a marathon in under 4 minutes.  It just means you'll limp over the line in last place.

Like last year when we 3 and 10, won 9 in a row and then got smashed by port who started like a train, fell in a hole and then very nearly knocked over the Hawks? I know what I'd prefer although I do agree the pre season cup has little meaning

I know they're missing some players and it's just nob cup but Carlton look like a real pile of junk and it's great to see poo trucks like Jones running around for them.

Yep only real difference between Jones and Vickery is that Vickery has average a tonne more hitouts. The rest is pretty similiar

you have named 10 pretty ordinary players there. surely we are looking to improve, or are we just going to be content with mediocrity again and a middling finish lol.
