Title: On reflection , was the 9 game winning streak of 2014 worth it ?

Get the feeling some of you believe the right course of action would of been to tank list manage.

Creating history and building club culture not as important as draft picks.

Discuss.

There's a serious question over whether it was worth it. If you are going to roll over in finals year after year after year what's the point of making finals? What were the seasons wins for?

What relevance to the players and fans were those wins now? Not a winning culture because if that were the case we would have won at least 1 final. All they prove is that we can win games but we don't when it really counts.

Maybe draft picks would have been a better in the long run. We'll never know

And how have our games V Port gone since then? Experience wins every time. One, or if you are lucky two, draftees will not make us that much of a better team.

If you knew you were going to be thumped.......
However you don't and so it its always worth putting yourself into a finals slot just to give yourself a chance. You cannot get finals experience without playing them.....

ya gotta be in dem finals to win dem finals ::) , aint a convincing argument to say coming 12th is a better prep to winning a flag :shh

What - that one solitary home and away game against them while they were woefully out of form and had just lost to Brisbane? Did that stunning victory help us get over North months later?

Or in our case, we have to be in finals to lose finals and learn nothing from it. :wallywink

And one thing is for sure, finals experience and winning hasn't resulted in winning a final. That's factual. It's got us three big fat doughnuts in a row.

The more convincing argument can only be, therefore, that getting better draft picks will likely strengthen the list and our ability to win games

Let's move on.

2016 is here. Judge the coach and the players on this season

I still think that sequence of victories was the best thing Richmond has done since 1982 - better than beating Carlton in 2001 , up there with beating Essendon in 95.
Never forget the feeling of euphoria after beating Sydney and securing a finals berth despite being in a precarious  3-10 earlier in the season . No other team has done that.
Still got a good kid in C . Ellis too who looks a 200 gamer.

Your personal feeling of euphoria at that time has not a single thing to do with what would be best for the club and whether it was worth it in the long run.

You need to separate the two.

Obviously of u lose the first Elimination final after a 9 game streak, it's not worth it.

If we had of lost any of the 9 games we would not have played finals. So by extension we played 10 elimination finals in a row and lost one.

You know it makes sense  :snidegrin

I apologise for not talking about Richmond like they are my least preferred club.

What's the bet Stalin, these rose coloured glasses supporters happily clap the team off after every loss?

Clap opposition goals because it's good football, even when we get spanked?

And feel indifference to suceeding in finals, as per the quote in my signature below.

Don't you know Dooks - we're not "real" supporters like Matty & HRT because we actually give a stuff and express our concerns as to whether or not the club has the right coach, recruits the right players and hires the best people to run it, because we highly value & desire finals success and premierships... all of which are so obviously the hallmarks of people who hate the club....:shh

I am not too sure if that is what they are saying or thinking at all.

My reading of it is that they know we can improve and hope we do but they also acknowledge that the RFC is improving and despite some "experts" on here (that are conspicuously quiet at the moment) saying we are going backwards.

Anyway just my take.

Carry on.
