Title: Potential key defender from other clubs
Post by: Stalin on April 22, 2016, 11:02:42 AM

Anyone got any ideas on key backs that may be available for us to poach from other clubs at years end?
Or even a decent one is a lower level?
As we all know we are at least one decent ready made kpd short.
Surely they won't put us through another season of Lady Chappy

Need to see who is out of contract at season's end.

No point getting Hurley if he's going to cost more than $700k/year. It will take so much of our salary cap and he'll only delay the inevitable slide down to another rebuild.

IMHO we should do a bit of a rebuild now. Trade out Cotchin, Lids, B. Ellis, Conca, Griffiths, Vickery, Batchelor, Houli, Grigg.

I would be scouting the hawthorn list pretty hard:

K Brand   198cm   92kg    Defender
S Tatupu   197cm   100kg    Forward
L Surman   195cm   85kg    de
T O'Brien   193cm   84kg    Forward
K Heatherley   193cm   89kg    Defender
A Litherland   192cm   88kg    Defender
D Willsmore   191cm   83kg    Forward
R Burton   191cm   90kg    Forward
D Howe   191cm   83kg    Defender

As astbury and grimes are hardly reliable. Chaplin is a poor excuse for a dirty big girls blouse. Elton and McBean are out of favour with our intelligently challenged  spiritual leader mr hardwick

Hurley

Agreed with this.

Rance. Grimes. Hurley would provide the foundation Of a backline good enough to build a successful football club

If we get the talks right the like of deledio yarren c Ellis vlastuin Menadue martin and co will benefit

Sadly with the lack of upside in Morris and hunt a 'lock down', back pocket still looks like it's missing from the mid under seven year of mr hardwick list management alon with a Hurley

J Tippett   197cm   91kg    Defender
D Nielson   194cm   92kg    Defender
A Black   192cm   90kg    Forward

How can it be other sides bat deep and have options in the reserves

When after seven years of mr hardwick we hae rance and nothing else?

Same reason we only have Hamspud as our only other ruck option.

But never fear because we have good old Sir Francis of Jackson scouring the country to find us "skillful" players that can kick sideways and backwards better than any other in the draft, whilst lord Blair of Hartley is thoroughly checking all players on every teams list to find us just the right fit of wannabe hacks that no other team wants.  We should give them both a 10 year extension on their current contracts. :clapping

I've seen enough of Astbury TBH.

But the other four I would like to see.

My opinions right now are that McBean is lazy, Broad isn't a good footballer, Moore and Elton who knows.

But Griff and Vickery are so stuffing SOFT they're 200cm/100kg and can't even deck a bloke like that Ben Stratton who is more than 10cm shorter and 10kg lighter.

It's pathetic and sickening.

Is it too much to ask the club to draft a big angry KP player who will smash packs and wrestle bunnies?

I'm all in for the Hurley and Durdin double. Move on Vickery, Griffiths & Chaplin. I hate thinking about the idea that Deledio could play for another club but I would seriously look at trading him to North for Durdin and a late first round pick. We need to look froward and North would jump at this trade IMO.

I think we do in all sincerity... Josh Jenkins kicked 8 yesterday and is out of contract

We have talent:  jack. Deledio. Cotchin Edwards. And some good kids. Lennon rioli. But Richmond are lacking a key forward

Time to go Vickery and Griffiths ... Should trade out

The doggies were very brave to pay over for a very highly talented young forward

I' be offering Jenkins some good money to come over. Have liked the look of him for years now. Very quick on the lead and can ruck reasonably well too. Big upgrade on the likes of Vickery and Griffiths!

People will laugh but i suggested we take Lachlan Keefe with a very late nd pick last yr.I felt he was just coming into his own when he got suspended.I also thought Michael Hartley was worth giving a go along with Marcus Adams . Bit late now i suppose.

KPD depth can be built up and it doesnt have to be with just big name recruits.

Maybe we could prise one of Corr or Marchbank out of GWS. Tomlinson could play kpd as well.Tomlinson and Corr it seems have struggled a bit this year.

Tomlinson would be a great get but I wouldnt play him in defence I'd put him on the ball.
Has a big tank and loves the hard stuff, reckon he'd be a great big bodied onballer.
I'd also enquire for Scully too for the mids has really come on this year and is another with a big tank, an area which is sorely needed at our club IMO.

I thought Elton had a big tank and was very mobile when we recruited him. He grew a bit more and they have made him a KPP. It would be an interesting experiment to put him on ball in the seconds. A 197cm mid. Just to try something different.
Why not? Anything is worth a try. You have nothing to lose but you have a lot to gain.

Unfortunately we have a coach who's only creative instinct is to take talent out of preferred positions and throw them in the backline.

Just looked at his draft bio. His main weapon was he was an athletic freak.

Rance is a pure defender and pretty much our entire backline!
Tomlinson is more your utility type and people think because he's 190+cm that he's a KPP.
He's a top performer in the 3km trials since he's been with GWS so there's no doubting he has the tank to run out a game.

Didn't look out of place down back either, interesting to see if they keep playing him back there.
Definitely is the right size and age and is more than capable in the forward line.

Yeah he looked ok from what i saw. The encouraging thing was, i saw him stop and prop and do some sharp turns last night which is something hes been scared to do so far this year (understandably). Reckon by seasons end we'll see him start hitting some good form as confidence in his body returns
