Title: Rance reported for striking / Cops two weeks from MRP [update]
Post by: one-eyed on April 24, 2016, 11:15:15 PM
Mark Stevens on Ch 7 reckons Rance will cop 2 weeks because it was "intentional" and "medium impact".

Here's the vision: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-04-24/tiger-defender-alex-rance-on-report-for-striking-jack-watts

Medium impact- I wouldn't have thought so.
Will get 1 week for stupidity.

True, but i wished Bugg or someone with a similar attitude  played for us.

Although Hardwick would probably coach him to be like a number 3 on the ledger book.....

Maybe Rance wanted a couple of weeks off so he doesn't have to play with such abunch of limp wristed soft pansies and I don't blame him. And who better to give a clip on the ear to but Jacquie twitts.

We breed our pansies young at Punt road. Did you see how limp wristed young Ellis was to stop Viney from remonstrating?  Pathetic effort.

Not the first time rance has shown his frustration. I recall him decking a port player in the elimination final towards the end of the game. Geez it must be tough giving it your absolute all week in week out, beating your opponent and helping everyone else beat theirs and you see other players plodding around going at 50%. Must be infuriating for him.

2 weeks down to 1 with his good record is what I think will happen. This is because it was intentional, to the head and low impact.

Yes but Elton should be in the side when Rance is, he should't be put under that amount of pressure straight away with no bloody support, typical. I want to see him in but he should have come in three weeks ago.

Take the 2 weeks and run. 2 weeks is right IMV, 1 week for the hit and 1 week absolute stupidity

Lucky they didn't use the new "looks bad" clause, could have been 4 weeks

Rance offered two, fines galore from MRP

RICHMOND defender Alex Rance can accept a two-match suspension for his crude strike to the back of Jack Watts' head in Sunday's clash against Melbourne.

The All Australian defender, who is arguably the Tigers' most important player, will miss matches against Port Adelaide and Hawthorn in another setback for the 1-4 Tigers.

The MRP, which had the option to upgrade the impact of Rance's hit because of the risk of serious injury, used a medical report from the Demons and assessed the strike as intentional conduct with medium impact the head.

Rance was one of 26 players charged out of the first eight games of round five, with $29,500 in fines handed out for melees in clashes involving Port Adelaide, Geelong, Melbourne and Richmond.

Melbourne's Tom Bugg was handed a $1000 fine for making contact with an injured player after pushing Richmond forward Jack Riewoldt as he made his way off the ground accompanied by trainers and nursing an ankle injury.

Melbourne midfielder Jack Viney was also cleared by the MRP for remonstrating with Rance after the defender's hit on Watts, with the panel deeming contact was made with an open hand to Rance's chest.

The MRP statement:

Alex Rance, Richmond, has been charged with striking Jack Watts, Melbourne, during the fourth quarter of the Round Five match between Richmond and Melbourne, played at the MCG on Sunday April 24, 2016.

In summary, he can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Melbourne Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct with medium impact to the head. The incident was classified as a three-match sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a two-match sanction.

He wanted to retire at 25. Rance is so hard at the pill and talented. Yet overall his hearts not in it. Why did he snot watts? Must be frustrating  trying to win a flag and risking breaking your neck every week when you are playing next to Chaplin. Grigg Houli.

Like Cotchin wants to retire at 27

Do you see a trend? The cancer is cumming from Dimma

In reality Vineys palm to Rance's throat was far more dangerous than Rance's open palm strike to the back of Watts head. One looks gutless/terrible, the other appears courageous and loyal. Go figure  :rollin

Both were poor acts that were done with loss of control mentally in a split second of frustration and rage.

They aren't the first humans to experience this and they certainly won't be the last. Not an excuse for them, just stating facts.

Understand, but then we should be filthy on Rance as he is the last player we need missing on game day.

UPDATE: Richmond full-back Alex Rance will miss the next two rounds after accepting a two-week sanction from the AFL's Match Review Panel for striking Melbourne's Jack Watts.

Rance will be ineligible for selection in the Tigers' upcoming home games against Port Adelaide and Hawthorn at the MCG.

The incident, which occurred late in the final quarter of Richmond's 33-point loss to the Demons on Sunday night, was assessed as intentional conduct with medium impact to the head.

The Panel's classification of a three-week suspension was reduced to two weeks with Rance taking the guilty plea
