It's quite possible at some stage the forward line this week contain several of:
B. Ellis
Grigg,
Chaplin
Vickery
Hampson
Morris
Hunt
A dynamic and experienced group
-
Going in for the double today with eyes on Chol, Elton, Short, Lennon, McBean, Markov and big Ben. I still think Castangna will be playing in the big dance tonight :pray

Is anyone at the game?
Any notable outs?? Castagna?

Don't care what anyone says we would need an All Australian team to execute our game plan. Doesn't work in the ones and certainly doesn't work in the twos.

Short - played a great game as a small back. Kicking a highlight. Well done!
Griffiths - Played his best game ever! started forward but it was when he went and played CHB he was fantastic. Contested marking a feature :clapping A few poor decisions but he was a positive today.
Soldo - played a great first half and kicked a magnificent goal banana kick style. Slowed down in the second but is developing and is already better than Hmapson :shh
Elton - was solid and took some impressive contested marks. Dropped a few easy marks but is getting to the right spots on the ground. He is a better option than Chaplin
C. Moore - ok and has something to work with.
The rest of the team played poor. Butler...........don't think he touched the ball all game :-\
McBean.........no good at all.

Popped in to watch the last quarter :P and it was an exact copy of what the seniors dished up later in the night. One team (Sandy) playing football and moving the ball easily from one end of the ground to the other with just 3 kicks, while the other (us) played handball via the wing to flat-footed teammates under pressure. As a result there was no forward structure or forwards leading up on the lead. Not to mention one VFL-listed player missing an open goal from 15m out.

We have lacked a good crumbing forward for years. again last night when the ball hit the ground in the forward line, it was mostly opposition players at the fall of the ball.
Short actually watches the ball in flight and positions himself accordingly, just what we desperately need.
So what do the stuff wits do? play him down back. :clapping Bravo idiot heads

The positive I see with Short is he actually has a good footy brain. He can play all over the ground. I would play he for the rest of the year and yes it would be as a small forward. Play him and Rioli as its all about the kids now and who can take us forward.

Rioli is not ready to stay in the senior side & if he don't get dropped this week. Then we are in trouble. Short should return

VFL Tigers gallant in loss to Zebras
richmondfc.com.au
May 1, 2016
Richmond’s VFL side fought valiantly, but in the end was outclassed by a more seasoned Sandringham outfit by 57 points under lights at Punt Road Oval.
The Tigers pressured and harassed the Zebras for the majority of their twilight encounter but in the end, Sandringham’s class came to the fore as the hosts tired, 16.15.111 to 7.12.54.
As hoards of Richmond fans congregated at Punt Road Oval as a curtain raiser to the AFL clash against Port Adelaide, the VFL Tigers sensed the occasion and started the game accordingly.
The Tigers hunted, harassed and suffocated the Zebras in the opening minutes and received just reward as Nathan Broad slotted a classy left-foot snap after some bullocking work by the tenacious Adam Marcon.
Sandringham responded almost instantly, but key Tiger tall Ben Griffiths capped off his desperate sliding chest mark, with a towering set-shot from outside 50, and swung the momentum back in Richmond’s favour.
Tiger on-baller Marcon, who was bereft of assistance against Frankston, gained a much needed chop-out this week from midfield bull Jacob Townsend and the pair dominated the contested ball early on.
Richmond’s work in the clinches could not be faulted, as it squeezed the Zebras and played the game in its half for much of the opening term before Sandringham started to click into gear.
The Zebras pounced on any Richmond turnover and hurt the Tigers on the rebound to end the opening turn with four consecutive goals and gained a 21-point lead.
At the quarter-time break, Tigers’s senior coach Craig McRae applauded his side’s pressure and work in-close but urged his chargers to “...be brave” with the ball between the arcs and “...squeeze up” on Sandringham.
Sandringham began the second term full of running and had the Tigers on the back foot and forced them to continuously defend from their back half.
It was a case of all hands on deck, as reliable key-backs Ryan Gale and Todd Elton absorbed the aerial pressure, and the Tigers defended staunchly.
Richmond key-forwards Liam McBean and Griffiths were forced to lend a hand down back, with McBean spoiling with defiance, which was a tremendous sign of the development in his aerial contests.
After absorbing the Zebras’ pressure, the Tigers hit the scoreboard late in the second term through ruckman Ivan Soldo and the hulking Griffiths.
Griffiths had a hand in the first, as his slick hands from congestion found Soldo on the paint of 50 and the ruckman belied his height with a classy right-foot checkside which surprised the crowd, and his teammates.
As Griffiths led and marked strongly, the crowd began to lift — it then roared as the key-forward sunk his long range set-shot as the Tigers pressed hard approaching halftime, and trailed by 22 points.
Ill-discipline by the Tigers gifted Sandringham two crucial goals via 50-metre penalties in the opening stages of the third term and put Richmond behind the eight-ball.
The Zebras started beating the Tigers around the ball, as the heat turned up in the contest and Richmond was left defending multiple forward 50 entries once again.
In an improvement from last week, Richmond fought and scrapped when it was challenged and clawed back the momentum, and got the game back on its terms.
Richmond’s pressure forward of centre allowed it to keep the ball in its half for a sustained period and it capitalised via an excellent forward-50 tackle and goal from Marcon.
Tigers’ developing key-forward McBean highlighted his elite finishing skills with an exquisite set-shot from the boundary and handed his side the momentum.
Griffiths floated down back and halted some late forays forward by the Zebras and held the deficit to 21 points heading into the final change.
In his three-quarter time address, McRae implored his side to once again “be bold”, to trust the forwards and promote “winning behaviours” and “winning actions”.
Unfortunately, after peppering the goals early, the Tigers couldn’t eat into the deficit as the Zebras streamed forward at will and plied on six-goals-to-nil in a dominant last quarter display.
Griffiths capped off an impressive evening with a genuine “hanger” in front of the Richmond faithful on the Jack Dyer Stand wing, which was a rare highlight in a tough final term for the hosts.
Zippy Tiger Jayden Short (26 disposals) looked right at home as a rebounding defender, while midfielder Tom Couch (25 disposals and ten clearances) and Taylor Hunt (24 disposals) were gallant in defeat.
Griffiths kicked a team-high two majors, as well as clunking five contested marks as Marcon, Broad, Conca, Soldo and McBean slotted singles.
Richmond faces Port Melbourne at North Port Oval at 2pm next Saturday 7 May, and will look to get back on the winners’ list.

How can a side fight valiantly and lose by 10 goals?
Only at Richmond.
-
actually a side can fight valiantly and loose by ten goals - when you are that outclassed by the opposition it is expected you will loose by much more.

Richmond’s VFL coach Craig McRae's summary:
AFL-listed
Jayden Short
26 disposals, 16 uncontested possessions, six tackles, five inside 50s
Played as a defender for the first time this season and showed that he’s got plenty of ability in using the ball effectively off half-back. His hard running to save goals also was a feature of his game. Was a really good contributor for us.
Taylor Hunt
24 disposals, 10 handball receives, 14 uncontested possessions
Returned from AFL duties and had 24 disposals, but handballed more than he kicked. We’re looking for him to drive his legs, use the space and his kicking skills more in coming weeks.
Andrew Moore
24 disposals, 15 uncontested possessions, five marks
He had 24 disposals, with 10 contested possessions, but only the two clearances. We need his hard body at the stoppages to provide more for us in that part of the game.
Adam Marcon
19 disposals, five tackles, six inside 50s
A quieter day by his standards. He didn’t have the impact of recent games, but with nine contested possessions his workrate was still really high.
Nathan Broad
18 disposals, 13 uncontested possessions, six inside 50s
Played wing and looked like he was, at times, working back really hard to help out our defence. We just need him to use the ball better coming off half-back and make smart decisions. It’s an important part of our game plan and at times he let us down there.
Jacob Townsend
18 disposals, 11 contested possessions, six clearances, six tackles
We need him to show better discipline in the contest, as well as spread hard when the opposition have the ball.
Todd Elton
13 disposals, five marks, two contested marks
His first half was the best he’d played this season. Took two really strong contested marks to save goals, and his aerial work throughout was impressive. As the game went on, a drop in concentration levels, or fatigue, caused a few fumbles, which led to opposition goals. This is an area of his game we need him to improve in.
Ben Griffiths
Two goals, five contested marks, nine marks, 13 disposals
Started up forward and kicked two goals. We then moved him back and he had big impact on the game there. He took five strong, contested marks and was the dominant big man on the ground. Looks ready for another AFL opportunity.
Callum Moore
11 disposals, six uncontested possessions, five handball receives
He’s learning his craft and how to play our way. Needs, however, to be consistent with his decision-making. Also needs to improve his work at ground level.
Dan Butler
Seven disposals, four contested possessions, three tackles
Struggled on the day as a small forward. Finished with just seven disposals, three tackles, and didn’t impact the scoreboard. He had poor ground-level fundamentals, which is something he has to work on.
Mabior Chol
One goal, seven disposals, two tackles
Didn’t have the impact of the previous match, where he kicked four goals, managing just one this time. As you’ll find at this level, or any level for that matter, after you play a good game, the opposition put more time into you. It was a good learning curve for him.
Ivan Soldo
20 hit-outs, one goal, seven disposals
Competed really hard against the opposition’s two ruckmen, who had been dominating the competition with regards to clearances and hit-outs. Held his own and kicked a really nice goal.
Liam McBean
One goal, four disposals, two tackles
Had a really quiet, disappointing game, with only four disposals and one goal. Needs to work harder at the contest.
VFL-listed
Tom Couch
25 disposals, 15 contested possessions, ten clearances, five centre clearances
Didn’t have quite the same significant impact he’d had in the first few rounds, but still had 25 disposals, with 10 clearances, and was a really good contributor.
Sam Darley
21 disposals, nine uncontested possessions, four tackles
Another solid game from our captain. Continues to lead from the front and he kicked the ball well off half-back. He’s an important player for us.
Daniel Coffield
15 disposals, eight contested possessions, five marks, three tackles
Played his first game as our 23rd man. Is a young player with a huge upside and we were really pleased with his output. Looked really composed and capable at the level.
Nick Mellington
15 disposals, five clearances, eight uncontested possessions
Played more forward than what he had in recent weeks. Didn’t have as much time in the midfield, but when he was in there he had five clearances, but unfortunately as a forward he didn’t impact the game as much. As with Jacob, we need him to have greater discipline in the contest.
Anthony Scott
13 disposals, four marks, seven uncontested possessions
Played his role, although didn’t impact the scoreboard or tackle. These are important parts of his game that he needs to improve on.
Ryan Gale
11 disposals, six marks, nine uncontested possessions
Was a solid contributor down back, but needs to keep his feet and not paddle the ball as a backman. Is competing hard for us.
Luke Conca
Ten disposals, five tackles, one goal
Looked a little rushed when in possession, and we need him to be more composed. Kicked a goal and could have had another one. His attack on the contest certainly isn’t an issue.
Tyson Kruse
Nine disposals, six uncontested possessions
Needs to have better composure with the football, as he’s turning the ball over too much off half-back. but he’s competing okay overall.
Tom Silvestro
Nine disposals, two tackles
Is a young player who’s learning the way. He runs hard, his work rate is enormous, and he has a big upside. We like where he’s going.
Anthony Forato
16 hit-outs, four disposals
Played his first game as a back-up ruckman, to help Soldo out. He had similar messaging to Soldo, to compete really hard. Finished with 16 hit-outs and looks like he’s capable of playing at the level.
