Does Dunkley play with a tagger pulling and pushing his every move in game? Don't get the negativity on Cotchin.
-
Still stood up in one more final when the heat was on than Deledio & Martin have. :shh

Does a tagger stop you tackling when you don't have the ball?

This.
Was very very good in 2013.
And yes, Dunkley hasn't been tagged.

Martin was our best player in the 2013 final

Martin was our best player in the 2013 final
How? He had less possessions (19 vs 26) and scored far lass on SC and AF points. In fact, Cotchin was second best on ground going by AF points.

Also kicked two captains goals iirc, one cracker on his left and a set shot at a break
-
So in summary, the counter arguement to the stats are :-
1) At least he played well in one out of three finals.
2) Its not his fault he cant break a tag, and/or we should expect a lower performance from him.

No Dooks. We are just saying that you have to compare apples with apples. Put a 19 year old Cotchin into the current Bulldogs side and he'd be a star.

So its the teams fault Cotchin has a worse record?

In a way yes. Cotchin has to carry the side. He is thus targeted by opposition coaches. Dunkley is a player that no opposition coach will put much time into. They have many other players to worry about at the doggies.

TIGERITIS - allowing the 9th placed Cheating arse Scum nemesis team beat the team you captain in a final.
TIGERITIS - captaining the losing team in the Tommy Hafey tribute game.
TIGERITIS - winning the toss and kicking against the wind in an away final & trying to make excuses for it.
TIGERITIS - allowing a punce pull your pants down in your third final.
TIGERITIS - making an extraordinary talented young elite brownlow medalist just an average player.
TIGERITIS - making an elite AFL player the sideways dinky kick specialist of the competition.
TIGERITIS - making an elite AFL player have to resort for easy kicks out the back to shake a tag he now struggles to shake.
TIGERITIS - allowing your captain get his pants pulled down when tagged.

Martin was our best player in the 2013 final
What - in the first half when Carlton were still asleep and we were cruising? Went MIA when the chips were down - Cotchin, Maric & an 18 year-old Vlastuin were the only ones who didn't...

Yeah but that doesn't suit some peoples agenda

Easy
He was clearly our best and most influential player in the first 3 quarters, breaking lines with his kicking and run. 2nd half was a write off for the whole side, no-one stood up in the 2nd half so doesnt matter how many possessions or SC points they finished up with
-
I was hoping like hell that the Yarran deal would fall through so we could get this bloke with our 2nd pick. No matter we would have destroyed his potential anyway. Btw Dooks is right on the money.

You know he wouldve been plying his trade between the back pocket and the vfl, getting dropped for the likes of Houli, Grigg, Hunt et al

Maric tried IIRC, only one who I thought really wanted it

We would never have drafted a player like Dunkley with a pick inside 30. Not flashy enough.
But he is the exact type of player we should be drafting. Kids that just thrive for the contest. These are the sort of players that will win you big games and finals. Players that just fight for every touch.
Not outside whimps like BEllis types.

Wouldn't have drafted midget Daniels in first 15 rounds
Didn't give Betamax enough feelings in his elderly loins.

When you are talking "class" Dunkley has nothing on Cotch and I'm pretty sure that will always be the case BUT the kid has done well in the finals and sometimes class isn't the thing that gets you across the line in big games.

It also helps when your not infected with Tigerits.

This should be merged with the crocodile versus shark thread

wasn't Dunkley actually training at Richmond last year if im correct

Correct. We used our pick 19 on Yarran with no due dilligence.
One spent the year jogging laps, eating and being triggered.
The other played 16 games and is averaging 24 possessions in finals.
Meanwhile Hartley and friends scratch arses, arent quite sure what happened and have moved on to find the next Conca for our first pick.

Fact is we would never have traded pick 31 and the 2017 second rounder for pick 19 and so he never would have made it to pick 31......
However, that doesn't suit the narrative....... :whistle

Well we did for Yarran and didnt for Dunkley.
Heres some additional narrative. As Yarran knew how extremely mentally out of shape he was (as Carlton knew) and unable to get on the field, why didnt he take some self responsibility and quit football instead of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from the club and taking up another healthy players opportunity at football.
Selfish.
And the fact that we were dumb enough to fall for it all (a mere 12 months ago) is just about the pinnacle of the ongoing incompetence.

Between them both its an absolute cock up.
Anyway, back to how Cotchin underperforms.....
-
I reckon Cotchin is pretty good at football
Yes , his finals have not been ideal

He can be very very good. But he underperforms often. And his finals are not something which are just some side issue.
Unreliable in big games (hot and cold). Has trouble kicking straight for goal. Struggles with a tag often. Not a leader. Sprukes BS PR from the club. Wife is an embarrassment to his integrity.

We better not do a Jack v Cotchin comparison though with Jack missing those two absolute sitters
-
George Hewitt vs chimp pls dooks
-
Dunkley wasn't overly impressive yesterday, let's change the comparison
-
Last final for each player:-
Dunkley 15 touches and 7 tackles
Cotch 9 touches, 5 fetal positions and 4 corrals.
-
Forget the Cotchin vs Dunkley comparison
Dunkley trained with us in the pre season and narrowly escaped tigeritis due to our incompetence and want for a cream player when we hadn't even let the cake base set. And the ingredient we chose was instead spoiled
9 months later Dunkley is a premiership player
Dunkley has a Goad Coach, a good playing list, good recruiters, staff, culture etc etc etc
Cotch doesn't.... carries the stress and burden of a dozen Malakas week in week out, combined with his coach joking about malakias.
-
How about Cotchin v Mitchell
