Backwards and sideways already. Here we go for another year of this.
-
Looking quicker by run and hands but we lose it in the back half
-
Forward entries still poo.
-
Same old same old going forward. More inside 50s (11 times in to 7) yet we've scored just one goal ::).
-
Giving away dumb frees too :scream.
Frees 2 - 8 :P.
-
Quarter time
Richmond 1.2-8
Adelaide 3.3-21
Goal: McIntosh
-
Rioli looks sharp.
-
Umps have killed us
-
I don't care how many kicks Grigg gets, he is not the way forward. He is a liability.
-
Better this quarter. Two to Castagna.
All square at 3-3-21 a piece.
-
Not liking edwards handballing EVERY time to a guy under pressure and out of position.
-
Prestia just poo himself
He will fit in perfectly
-
Grigg looks like poo.
-
Defence and accountability be a real problem this year.
-
Set shot misses like that from Caddy are momentum killers. Once again we gift the opposition back the momentum :banghead.
-
GET OFF BRANDON ELLIS. Absolute squib
Eff off
-
I HAVE BURNT MY MEMBERSHIP
-
Rubbish possesions. Grigg, edwards, cotch and friends. Handball and dinky kicks to guys under pressure.
Defensive setup a real worry. Rance alone wont fix.
A few times macintosh too slow to receive prestias handballs.
-
Call the match off
-
Call the season off
-
Half-time
Richmond 1.2 4.6-30
Adelaide 3.3 5.5-35
Goals: Castagna 2, McIntosh, Riewoldt.
First 15 mins of 2nd qtr = good (81% disposal eff.)
Second 15 mins of 2nd qtr = back to ineffective slop.
-
I think it has been pretty good. Better to watch that last year already. It really isn't that hard is it?
I cannot wait for the day I don't have to watch guys like Grigg, Houli, Bellis and Hunt run around. All aren't AFL standard imo.
Batch has been garbage too. Just an absolute nothing type.

All seven Richmond goals have been sourced from intercept possessions, with six of these won in the midfield zone. In 2016 the Tigers averaged 46.3 points per game sourced from intercept possession chains, ranked 14th in the league.
The Tigers continue their dominance at the stoppage and it's finally paid off. Richmond has won 16 of the past 17 clearances of the match, with its eighth goal coming from its ninth centre bounce clearance of the match.

Is he injured?

Richmond dominated out of the centre in the third quarter, winning all eight centre clearances. The Tigers only converted on of these directly into a goal, however they also managed two other majors from repeat entries following forward half intercepts.

Richmond has been able to move the ball effectively, transitioning from defensive 50 to forward 50 on nine from 28 attempts (32 per cent) for 3.2 (20).
Last season the Tigers went coast-to-coast on just 17 per cent of attempts, ranked 17th in the league.

-
Richmond supporters will see promising signs from midfield additions in Prestia and Caddy. The pair have gathered 21 disposals each, as well as combining for eight of the Tigers' 33 clearances.

Has anyone got a spare membership?
-
LOL
-
I liked what I saw in regards to their tackling pressure. It puts pressure on the guy with the footy but in doing that it puts doubts in the opposition minds at their next contest.
Much more enjoyable to watch.

Spot on. Pressure acts, 1percsnters and also smothers. Different look tonight. Will take a bit to.adapt to a more.quicker game style.
-
Rioli. Just magic.
Butler and Castagna have pace to burn and can play.
Nankervis. The end of bruise free footy at the RFC.
Caddy. Great pick up. Size and strength.
Prestia. Just a clearance machine.
BEllis. Soft.
Hunt. No idea.
Lennon. No touches.
-
Ben Lemon? Tearing it up, 2 disposals so far.
Sort of reminds me of Vickery, just seems to be in the wrong places and when he does get it he is under pressure. Maybe the forward coaches need to find ways to isolate him more to take the heat of Jack. With Jack getting the attention he deserves Lennon is the perfect switch as a target if its executed well and Lennon is made more aware of where he should be.
-
Good win.
-
Prestia, Caddy & Nankervis will all pay off big time for us! It looks as if we have got something right for a change, in fact we got 3 somethings right! Its early days but each of them looked like answers to some of our past problems, that's a tick, tick, tick!
Lets hope the injury gods are good to us this year (for a change). :bow
-
Ben Lemon? Tearing it up, 2 disposals so far.
Couldn't tear up wet tissues
Seriously
-
how is Ben Lennon going?
2 possies.
Is he injured?

I just thought is was good to start a season with some intent .
Previous pre seasons have been diabolical. Losing to Melbourne ( when they were crap ) Last years circus in Mandurah.
We always defend Richmond and accuse people of being dramatic "chicken littles "
The defensive pressure was a very pleasant surprise.
-
Not going to get too excited as it was only a practical Gamrie
But...
It was obvious what the changes to the game style were. Faster ball movement, more prepared to take the game on.
Have no issue with howlers if you play with intent
Also, to simply see the defensive pressure all over the ground, 2nd & 3rd efforts the norm rather than the eception was a good sign.
Need to continue down that path, no matter the reuslts. Why, IMO we'll be end up in a position to win games more regularly
It was a pleasing night, more positives than negatives for a change
-
If there were two players that need to make a statement having finally had a full pre season both first round selections in the draft both need to give something back it's Conca and Lennon.
I was hoping for more from both but not even able to impose themselves on a hit and giggle pre season game game that was mostly devoid of defensive intent.
If these blokes are already struggling after a full preseason I'm not holding my breath.
-
Anyone else think we got the raw end of the deal again with the free kicks. 22 them 11 us :banghead
This continues to grate me :thumbsdown

100% agree. Was also pleasing to see us get rewarded from a bit of luck when we looked to move it fwd at all costs - all of a sudden you'll find you get a lucky bounce or deflection here or there to create 2-3 goals a game out of nothing. With our usual style that just never happens. Really hope we keep going with it.

The other thing and showed last night, just the extra pressure or perceived pressure force the opposition to make mistakes. Happened to Adelaide last night alot in the back half
-
Some nice positives - namely our new recruits and gamestyle was distinctly different.
Prestia and caddy add a fair bit of grunt in the midfield. Nankervis- geez its good to see a ruckman that follows up with 2nd and 3rd efforts. George and butler showed some real dash and rioli.... i dont care im going to say it, kids going to be special. stuffing electric! dont have to be a student of the game to see how quickly he's developing both physically and in game sense.
Negatives - the usual plodders

I didn't see the game but was hoping someone could advise on their perceptions on the midfield dynamics with Prestia, Caddy and Miles?
-
Not sure how much miles fits in anymore. Seems like we've upgraded, could be a good depth player.
-

I think there is room for Miles. We do need to rotate guys through the midfield and when Prestia is resting and Caddy is up forward, he still is required in the guts as a pure inside mid.

Agree with YBB. Miles did some good things, should be playing 16+ games next year barring injury. He's higher up the pecking order than your Lambert types, only a good thing IMO.
-
Would drop Bellis, Grigg & Hunt before Miles....

They used Edwards and Grigg in the centre a fair bit but when push comes to shove in a high pressure game against a good side, I'd much rather see Miles in there than them. Would back him to not go into his shell and become a liability which is Edwards M.O
-
why the stuff do some people think you cant have three blokes who win plenty of inside ball in the one side?
-
Was it ever addressed what was in the RFC players ears?
-
why the stuff do some people think you cant have three blokes who win plenty of inside ball in the one side?
Because then we couldn't play 3 outside running machines who squib the contest and kick helicopter punts to the opposition?
-
Was it ever addressed what was in the RFC players ears?
They are devices tracking & recording data for concussion / head knocks. Not actually in players ears attached just behind the ear
A lot of players from all teams are wearing them in the JLT series

Not really, just got told it records contact to the head during games and how the brain reacts. It's all about some concussion study the AFL is undertaking
-
Yep, sounds cool. Cheers rig
