Fingers crossed we all got through tonight. Jack and Rance okay especially with a fortnight until the Prelim.
Fire away with your changes, if any?
-
Broad for B Ellis or Garthwaite
-
Butler for Conca if he's fit.
-
Broad 3 terrible games in a row now
-
Houli looked a bit underdone to me tonight.
Didn't like his game at all. Needs to be looked at.
-
Broad 3 terrible games in a row now
What?
He was beaten clearly once tonight but more importantly is part of one of the stingiest defences our club has ever had. The total is much greater than the sum of the parts with our backline.

he wasnt great mate, but agree with your post
he wont be dropped
Hoili or Conca are on notice for the prelim.
someone has to go for butler you would think
-
Broad 3 terrible games in a row now
With all due respect Jackstar- if you think Broad should be dropped you should stop drinking. Or start!
Let me guess, you want Bellis back 😂
-
Broad was not good tonight, depending on the match ups he should be looked at. Was horribly out marked by Nash dropped marks galore and just didn’t have any impact with 3 disposals.
Conca had 7 tackles and was second for pressure acts from memory which should keep him in the side.
If butler is fit I honestly don’t know who would drop out.
-
Castsgna or Conca :shh
Garthwaite in for Broad would be a big call for a prelim....and if nothing else Broad did keep Gunston fairly quiet , which as a defender is still his primary task after all.....though if the media whip up enough hysteria - and don't discount it - .he might have to come in for Rance instead..... :help
...or maybe budding Rance clone Balta..... :shh :shh
-
Can't see there being any changes
Only possible is Butler... and think that would be based on who we play
Thought Houli was very poor last night
-
Houli was pathetic for a lot of the night. Absolutely dogged it in a few marking contests. One thing BEllis has the runs on the board for is going back with the flight when it's his turn. Houli turned it over by hand a good 4-5 times under a bit of pressure, Ellis has good hands in close.
So...be bold, treat Houli the same as others. Drop him, bring back the BEllis :shh
Broad is a passenger, let's be honest. He plays on blokes no one has ever heard of, does an average job and doesn't get a kick. Ducked his head horribly at one point too. Not the same player he was previously :shh
-
You guys watching the same game Broad took Gunston to the cleaners that was his job shut him down one of the best forwards who cares about the 3 possies.

Barely played on him mate. Gunston not going near the ball has bugger all to do with Broad

Has touched the ball 11 times in 3 games , lost his confidence
-
As shown by pooting his pants and dropping an uncontested mark over the boundary. Very lucky the conditions favoured defenders last night.
-
What I would do for the prelim
Outs- Conca
Ins- Lloyd
I can see Lloyd kicking 3 or 4 in a big final.

Pfft, Castagna's first half was amazing, best he's ever played for the club.
Conca was poor, could see him losing his spot.

Conca had third most tackles and second most pressure points, played his roll but I just can’t find anyone else that would come out for butler other than him. Surely Higgins is a lock and doubt they would take out a defender in broad and replace him with a small fwd.
-
Which is why they might be more likely to drop Castagna for Butler.....considering Rioli kicked three & Higgins had a blinder.... :shh

Higgins is just as much of a mid now as a fwd he could very easily take the mid spot concas filling with butler in the fwd line with his amigos. We were playing all 4 of them when Rioli got back before butler got injured.
Castagnas tackle where he folded the player in half was bloody beautiful.

Yeah I'd still much rather see Conca go out for Butler...and for all my criticism of George I actually think he has some underrated potential to play in the midfield himself....reckon he wouldn't be any worse than Conca at the very least ... :shh

We'll see who we're playing against before we worry about changes. If there's no match up for Broad...bye bye, hello Brandon :shh
-
Broad was not flash for mine. Was caught flat footed often and packed it. Maybe he had a poo game, dunno.
-
Down on confidence in a big way. At his best he's very important.
-
There's no one putting their hand up in the vfl today.
No change for me barring injury
-
Rubbish, there's a bloke with #5 on his back who's already put Houli's Thursday night performance to shame
-
If Brando comes in it’s definitely not gonna be for houli, you can stop backing that horse. Broad will be his only shot.
-

I agree. Plays the same sort of role as big Bachar tho but like I have said, Bachar's got that gold pass. :shh

Not from why I saw. No way he comes in after that. Especially for Houli. Broad the only one

I know. Bachar has a gold pass.
It will depend on match ups as I have said. If there is no logical match up for Broad, BEllis will come in. If there is a match up for Broady, there will be no change.
The 2's stuffing up today has ruined Butler's chances
-
So let’s get this straight.......
If Brandon plays Dio has to change his user name to WA Tiger.
If Brandon doesn’t play them AT has to buy Dio a new tv.
:shh :lol :rollin

No change. No one in the ressies deserves to come in.
We can now write off Butler's season too as he now has no VFL next week to get a game into him and test if he's 100% right.

He doesn’t have a gold pass It’s just his position to lose and there’s no one pushing to take his spot. Bachar had a poor game for sure but he’s just a better half back flanker than Ellis that’s a fact. Brando was good today which you would expect him to be considering he was playing at vfl level but it wasn’t like he completely dominated the game. Brandon’s best position for mine is on the wing where he can use his tank and his long boot (when he chooses to) between the arcs but for some reason the coaches don’t see him in that role anymore.

Time running out for Tigers' flag hero to return

ALEX Rance and Jack Riewoldt are expected to be fit for Richmond's preliminary final on Friday week, but the window of opportunity is closing for Dan Butler following the end of the VFL team's finals campaign on Saturday.
Rance and Riewoldt were treated for foot issues in the second half of Thursday night's 31-point qualifying final win over Hawthorn; Rance shortly before three-quarter time and Riewoldt in the fourth quarter.
Both players finished the game, and with a 15-day break between the win and next week's preliminary final against Collingwood or Greater Western Sydney, are expected to recover and play.
But, it's a different story for Butler, who was backed off training over the weekend and held back from the VFL team's semi-final loss to Essendon because of continuing ankle soreness.
"It will just depend on how well he's able to train, it probably makes it a bit harder for him because you can't see him play in a game," Richmond football manager Neil Balme told AFL.com.au on Monday.
"He's been a little bit sore anyway so we're not sure where he's going to get to.
"He'll try and train this week and we'll see how he goes."
Butler suffered a syndesmosis ankle injury in round 16 but didn't have surgical intervention until a month later.
He played a half of the VFL team's first final last Saturday night but pulled up sore, which saw his training loads reduced over the weekend.
Balme said while Butler's chance of a recall had taken a hit with the abrupt end of the VFL team's season, he would continue to train in case of injuries.
"It's a matter of how much he can run and how much he can impress with how much he can run, and whether you can take the risk after he's missed this much footy," he said.
"It will depend a bit on the fitness of everyone else I guess too, if everyone is fit, it's probably a bit unlikely but if there's an opportunity he'd want to be in a position to take that."
The players were given the weekend off after Thursday night's win but were back at the club on Monday.
They'll now run a relatively normal program with Tuesday and Saturday off, and a heavy session planned for Friday.
Balme said there would be a focus on balancing their work load with rest over the next two weeks, especially when considering their 15-day break between games compared to the six-day break their opponents will have.
But, he said they would benefit from their experience in dealing with the 15-day break they had between their winning 2017 qualifying final over Geelong, and their preliminary final against the Giants.
"If you're not ready and prepared to play in a preliminary final there's something very wrong with you," Balme said.
"I don't think we'll have to work too hard to keep them interested.
"You've got to give them enough work to keep them engaged but it's a good opportunity to get a bit of rest into them as well.
"It will be similar to what we tried to do last year, so we'll get a reasonable amount of work in, but we'll give them some rest as well. I think we'll handle it fairly well."
Balme said with no serious injuries to come from the win over the Hawks, the Tigers would have the majority of the list ready to play this week with just Jacob Townsend (fractured fibula), Shai Bolton (knee) and possibly Nathan Drummond (hamstring) unavailable.

Premiership teammate Nathan Broad was another notable absentee from the main group in the session at Punt Road, with the defender running a slow lap on his own before doing some gentle stretching exercises.
Broad has been quiet for a number of weeks and had just three touches in the qualifying final win over the Hawks.

-
Does either side make a change to a winning lineup?
Brandon Ellis was the unlucky Tiger to miss out in Richmond's qualifying final win over the Hawks and coach Damien Hardwick said there was a chance he could still play a role in September. Dan Butler is again fit after overcoming an ankle injury and is in the Tigers' best side, but the hard question is who does he come in for? Nathan Broad or Reece Conca appear to be the most in danger of losing their spot. Magpie Darcy Moore could come into selection contention, but Richmond's small forward line could count against him.

-
If Dusty is ok to play, I can only see one possible change - Ellis for Broad if we think we may be a little slow down back with the likes of Varcoe, Thomas and Stephenson down there. But we *should* be able to cover them with Houli, Short & Grimes. Astbury on Cox, Rance on De Goey, Vlastuin/Broad take Mihocek & Hoskin-Elliot.

In the Mix: Preliminary Final
Jennifer Phelan

RICHMOND
Get them in: Brandon Ellis had 24 touches in the VFL side's losing semi-final last week while Connor Menadue had 26. Sam Lloyd and Anthony Miles typically tackled hard while Ryan Garthwaite remains the key defensive replacement if required.
Under the pump: Nathan Broad had three touches against Hawthorn in the first final, following on from the four he had in rounds 22 and 23. Trained cautiously on Monday and may be carrying some soreness.
Medical room: It's all about 'Dusty watch' at Punt Road with the durable Brownlow medallist on light duties in their last two training sessions. It's suggested he has a knee issue, but the Tigers are adamant he'll play. Daniel Rioli (finger) and Dan Butler (ankle) will be available this week.
Verdict: No change. Broad to hold his spot, Martin/Rioli/Lambert to play, and Butler and B. Ellis to miss out.

Would love to fit Butler in that side, but for who ?. Gives us more class and speed and pressure up in our forward 50 and more potent attack.12 weeks of footy is alot, but pies players both come in after long lay offs.
Broad maybe carrying something will be interesting with him.
-
Out Broad don't think we need him with Collingwood defence unless they Bring in Reid & Moore.
In Butler is just all class
-
Dimma today on team selection this week:
Meanwhile, Nathan Broad was on the track and looked to move freely after also logging limited minutes in Monday's session.
Hardwick said the premiership defender's recent reduced output on the stats sheet wasn't the only thing considered at the selection table.
"He's fine. I think what we do from a media perspective is we get a little bit carried away with kicks, marks and handballs," he said.
"He's a defender. He takes space, he spoils, he does a lot of things that we value incredibly highly and that's why he plays week in, week out.
"Kicks, marks and handballs are a by-product of process, and if he continues to back in the process, he plays his role every week."
With the 22 from the qualifying final win over Hawthorn expected to be available and all training on Wednesday, the Tigers don't appear to be forced into making changes.
But, Hardwick hinted the team might not be as settled as it appeared.
"With the Hawthorn game our personnel requirements were a little bit different and the personnel requirements are a little bit different this week against Collingwood," he said.
"[Brandon Ellis], Sam Lloyd, Dan Butler, Connor Menadue, Oleg Markov – all of those guys have been in pretty good form and we've got to pick the best side that we feel will get us the result."
Butler has been training strongly since turning a corner in his rehabilitation from an ankle injury and is ready to play if selected despite playing just one half of VFL football since round 16.

Gee that’s a big call. Not because I think Conca is better rather Bellis is just crap

Browny Would Make One Change To Richmond Team
MMM
19 Sep 2018
Triple M Footy’s Nathan Brown thinks Richmond should “roll the dice” and bring premiership forward Dan Butler in for their preliminary final against Collingwood at the MCG on Friday night.
Butler has been sidelined since round 16 due to an ankle injury, but Brown thinks he is good enough to come straight in for the blockbuster clash after 11 weeks out.
“I’d roll the dice on Butler at some point,” Brown told Triple M’s Rush Hour during The Midweek Rub.
“He sells better candy than anyone I’ve seen since (Hawthorn and Adelaide legend) Darren Jarman.
“I like his package. He’s got a whole package ... It’s hard to see anybody going out (of the Richmond team). If somebody does, they’re going to be very unlucky.”
Damian Barrett said: “Butler’s the one who’s knocking the door down.”

This!
Conca plays more inside this year. I can't see Ellis getting back in unless Short or Houli get injured.
Butler is the one Dimma and the match committee will query as Dan is quick and applies forward pressure with his closing speed. Dimma did say the personnel needs for Collingwood are different to Hawthorn. If you can slow down Collingwood as the Giants did in the 2nd and 3rd quarters last week then you can dry up their scoring and force them into turning the ball over. The problem is who you drop for Butler even if we take the risk of playing him? Higgins is the youngest and least experienced of the small forwards who played against Hawthorn but he was very good in the QF. I still think we'll go in unchanged.
-
I can see Butler coming in for an unlucky Conca - We have brought meatball back after an 8 week absence seamlessly, our strength and conditioning are right on the money if they feel a player has done the necessary work on the track. Butler is looking sharp

It's official, Brando is in :thumbsup

The AFL Rover's early word on preliminary finals teams: Premiership Tiger still in doubt
Written By The Rover
Sporting News
20 Sep 2018
Speaking about ‘corkies’, has there ever been one that has been given more attention than Dustin Martin’s this week?
There’s no doubt Martin is still the Tigers’ best player and has been turning the dial up to 11 lately, so the slightest hint of an injury is going to be all over the back page, but Damien Hardwick insists ‘Dusty’s’ ready to go.
Don’t be surprised if he spends a bit more time forward though, which ends any hopes Dan Butler had of being recalled this week.
The biggest cloud at Richmond is hanging over Nathan Broad with the defender definitely not 100 per cent and picking up a total of 11 touches over the past three games.
However, Hardwick loves what Broad brings and the tough Tiger is the perfect player to counter Collingwood’s main scoring threat from mid-sized players Jordan De Goey, Will Hoskin-Elliott and Jaidyn Stephenson.
It will come down to the wire, but expect Broad to be included ahead of the more prolific but less accountable Brandon Ellis.

there is NO chance of him being dropped
-
The boys asked Balme about whether the Tigers would plan any changes for Friday night, including the likes of Dan Butler and Brandon Ellis, who both missed the qualifying final against Hawthorn.
"They're both available," Balme replied.
"Dan hasn't played all that much, so it'd be a big decision, but I think it's probably pretty unlikely that we'll make a change."
