Title: Changes for Next Week

Out Chol and Bolton
In Dusty and Cotch
Pickett ?

We won't play with one ruck and go shorter against the Eagles. If Chol is to be dropped then Soldo has to come in. IMO it wasn't the day for talls. Jack was ordinary too apart from kicking 2 goals.

I wouldn't bring back Cotch yet. Give his hammy the extra week.

Out: Chol, Stack (looked like a show off today)
In Soldo, Martin
Give Cotchy another week.
Not sure about all the fuss re Pickett.  Looked ok but a few in front of him IMO

Dimma reckons both Cotch and Dusty will play next week.

About Cotch:
"Trent ran full speed today. Once again, conservative call, but we'll welcome him back next week, which will be good."

About Dusty:
Our expectation is he'll play this week."

I'd drop Bolton for giving away the 2 x 50 metre penalties

That was shocking and so incredibly stupid.

Outside of that thought he was average

INS: Cotchin, Martin, MacIntosh

OUTS: Bolton, Baker and BEllis (too much bab BEllis today)

There were a few others that didn't justify a game next week and I could pretty much guarantee this will not be the charges but it's my selections.

Bolton played very poorly in particular in the second half. He turned the ball over needlessly and gave away that needless penalty.  Agree with INS however not sure about dropping Baker.

I must admit I watched the game from a bar in Bali but I thought Baker was good.

And I thought the Bolton free kick was BS to start with and the 2x 50’s were even bigger BS.
Let’s not hang him for an over zealous moron umpire.

The reason we are where we are this year are because of players like Baker and Bolton and a few other young guys, and dropping them would be a mistake IMO.

Is Bolton spending more time in the forward line again instead of in the guts were he was doing well. From now on it will be 2 rucks not only Nank can not do that against top sides like eagles.

Wasn't his best but he is the best tackling machine for a big bloke since, well, Nankervis. He also loves to tackle hard and don't think that goes unnoticed by the coaches. Even oppo players are getting nervous when they know he's on their tail....  :shh

I do but he can't catch guys running away from him. Soldo is great if the guy grabs the ball in front of him and is stationary. Chol has the pace to run some smaller blokes down or at least infer pressure. Soldo cannot do that or are you watching something else when the game is actually being played?

5 changes for me

Martin and Cotchin will happen regardless. The other three ins McIntosh, Balta, Pickett

4 outs are straight fwd imo

Ellis, Short, Baker, Broad. Last one is a toughy but i chose Caddy over both Rioli and Bolton

Straight fwd in the sense Martin Cotchin and McIntosh for Ellis, Short and Baker
Balta for Broad not only was he poor but imo we need the extra size Balta gives this week.
Pickett well he didnt do a real lot but has to be better for the second run.If we are serious about him playing finals we probably have to play him the last two games.

I’m not calling for Ross to go out based on his performance but more for team balance. Kids got a very bright future but I’d rather keep the likes of Bolton in to run through the middle who offers genuine X factor to add to the grunt work of cotch dusty Prestia graham etc.

Can we drop both Ellis and short and still have enough outside run is the question. If so then I would go:

Out: chol, short, ellis
In: balta, cotch, dusty

Btw I can’t see how people are calling for baker to be dropped unless they think his replacement balances the team better. Just seems like there’s a couple every week who no matter what he does call for him to be dropped.

There is some seriously talented players people are suggesting to be dropped which is bloody good thing this time if the year.

The next two weeks will tell a story but as I said earlier I hope Dimma sticks with the guys that got us to here. Regardless of if they were quite on Sunday in a very scrappy game.

My outs if I were coach
-Ross, Bellis

My ins
-Dusty, Cotch

Not a bad couple of ins!!

I would like to find a way to get McIntosh back in and the only other one I think has struggled is Short, although I think he was better on the weekend.

I have my own view. If a player only gets it 15 times at reserves level then that is not enough to get a senior call up. Pickett needs to show that he can find the footy. Its that simple.
Title: Re: Changes for Next Week
Post by: Diocletian on August 13, 2019, 02:19:45 PM
No it really isn't that simple and surely you can't be either...he's not a Tim Kelly type high a possession player and never has been...averaged < 20 in the WAFL - we knew that when we drafted him and so did all the other clubs who would've all taken him had he not been injured  -  watch the replay on seven plus taking into account it's third game for the year and second in three months and see why the coaching staff are all desperate to get him into the senior side before the finals..:shh

In the Mix - Round 22

RICHMOND

Get them in: Damien Hardwick has the pleasant task of trying to fit Brownlow medallists Dustin Martin (soreness) and Trent Cotchin (hamstring) into a side that's won seven straight games. From the twos, small forward Jake Aarts starred with 24 and three goals, while Callum Coleman-Jones (19 disposals, six marks) is steadily building a case for the second ruck/forward role.

Under the pump:
It may be time forMabior Chol to have a break in the VFL. The run of wet conditions hasn't helped, but the big man managed just 53 per cent game time and four disposals. Shai Bolton (11 disposals) didn't have a huge impact, while Daniel Rioli (10) was also quiet.

Medical room:
The only casualty from the weekend was rookieDerek Eggmolesse-Smith (corked buttock) in the VFL.

Verdict: Jack Ross and Jack Graham did enough to hold their own, meaning Bolton and Rioli could be in trouble for Cotchin and Martin. The option of swapping Chol for Coleman-Jones orNoah Balta is also on the table.

Dustin Martin, who missed last weekend's slugfest with Carlton with 'soreness', is likely to return to face the Eagles.

First-year draftee Jack Ross is also in the frame to continue after 13 weeks out from ankle surgery.

I saw the last quarter of the reserves last week and all I did was watch Pickett. Based on that only I would be happy to have him play ahead of Snugglers Ellis any day.

Granted I didn’t see him accumulate many disposals during that quarter but he is tough, he is poised and he is skilful and most importantly he doesn’t take a backward step nor does he shirk from a contest.

That puts him ahead of both Snugglers and Short-step as both were terrible on Sunday against the blues.
