Richmond Football Club have informed players Jacob Townsend, Callum Moore and Connor Menadue they will not be offered contracts for the 2020 season.
Townsend began his career at GWS where he played 28 games before being recruited to Richmond in 2015. In 2017 he was a part of the Richmond Premiership side and also won the J.J Liston Trophy presented to the Best and Fairest in the VFL competition.
The forward played 20 games during his four seasons at the Club.
Richmond List Manager, Blair Hartley, thanked Townsend for his professionalism both on and off the field.
“Jacob is an outstanding young man and a well-respected player within our group, he leaves the club as a premiership player and life member. We wish him all the best with his future endeavours.”
Moore joined the Club as a rookie at the end of 2015 and played 8 senior games for the Tigers.
“Unfortunately Cal missed a great deal of the season with an ankle injury but came back to play a great finals series in the VFL. The growth he has shown both on and off the field during his time at the club is a testament to all the hard work he has put in. We wish him well and have no doubt he will forge a successful career in the future”
Menadue, 23, played 39 games during his five seasons at Richmond. A former Western Jet, Menadue was recruited to the Tigers with pick 33 in the 2014 AFL National Draft.
“During his time at the club Connor has become a popular member of the playing group,” Hartley said.
“His work ethic on the training track and his professionalism is second to none. We thank Connor for his time at the Club and wish him all the best for his future career.”

How the hell does Miller survive? More chance of me playing seniors than him
-
Miller has shown very brief glimpses but I'm inclined to agree.... then again if a flanker like Menadud can be afforded 5 years then a KPP like Miller probably deserves at least three...at this stage he reminds me of the likes of Gourdis & Putt - plenty of tools & attributes but not much ability or footy nouse....apparently rated highly at the club internally...but so where all the other three at one point...:shh
-
Towner did his job thankyou very much move on.Moore we got guys ahead of him and hasn't stepped up.Menadue time for a change has talent ,but lacks believe when goes up into the afl.No point keeping them on the list rather fresh young blood we seen the impact that has made to us over years from even first year under 18 kids and state league recruits these guys weren't going to play rather fresh faces.Grigg and Butler had no impact on this season so no lost there only real one is Ellis in reality and gun to come back Rance.
As for Miller second year project KP player and had those injuries or illness this year.Silly to delist him now needs time.
-
With necessary changes as per AFL rules and the strength of our list, not totally surprised but a little sad to Menadue go. Miller needs a very big preseason and can consider himself lucky.
-
Sad to see Towner go. Had a really good attitude.
-

He survives because this was only his 2nd season, he's had multiple injuries and he is a big KPP
Was always going to get another year
-
Sad that Menedue get delisted in the year he started to shine.

Would like him to start playing as a KPP not a flanker which has been his position mostly. Must show something next year IMO but the coaches see something obviously.
-
Miller always staying. He's 195cm ffs and has been on the list two years.
Blokes like Menadue get 5 years and people still don't see why he has to go even though he has never, ever held his place in our 22.
Hopefully they all get careers elsewhere. I think Moore and Menadue are likely to. Would like Towner to stay on somehow if he doesn't get a gig elsewhere.
More to go still > Aarts, Garthwaite and Markov should be trimmed too.
-
On Ch7 news tonight they suggested Towner might be headed back to GWS
Hope he does
-
Towner will forever be a legend for his 2017 heroics. Thanks for your services

Came from outside the elite junior development and really has only had 1 proper preseason at the top level. Just turned 20 so we can afford to give him time.
Recorded good speed and agility scores at Combine. Has the attributes. Just needs the polish.
Would think he will be at the club for a few years yet.
Moore is 3 years older than Miller so keeping Miller for another year or two seems the way to go especially given his speed and agility for a 195cm player.

Reckon Moore & Menadue will get picked maybe as rookies but will be on lists somewhere.
Hawks were keen on Moore during the year.
GC crazy not to look a Menadue, would suit WB as well.

Both are VFL standard at best IMO.
You cannot say we didn’t give them enough time to show more.
Good luck to both wherever they end up.
I still think Townsend has something to offer but I understand the decision by the club.
-
Aarts should really be delisted too..,list clogging VFL player....blokes like Smallwood & Lowson would be upgrades/have higher ceilings alternatively we could fill more pressing needs by rookie-ing the likes of Jonty Scharenberg, Jai Bolton, Mitch's Podhajski & Hibberd or a KPD .. maybe give Beasely from our VFL list a crack instead- or just get another young project tall... :shh
-
SEN reporting in their Facebook page that Lids has been offered a player/coaching role for next year :shh
-
At Box Hill

:shh
-
Would not hurt the club if they put Towner on the rookie list again. I believe he has got alot still to offer to this club.
-
Really like the guy and I believe he still has some football to play this level, but it's been clear for nearly 12 months that it's not with us.
-
Going to GWS.
Menadue is going to Freo.
Haven’t heard yet about Moore...... :shh
-
Wobbles were into Moore a while back, don't know if that's still the case though... :shh :shh
-
Noticed Ben Crocker has been delisted at the Pies. I would have thought he'd be a good rookie pick up.... :shh
Apparently a great clubman loved by his peers. Can't have too many of those around a club..... :shh

Essendon interested in Moore.
Callum Moore
Cut by Richmond after an injury-interrupted year, the 23-year-old has gauged early interest from Essendon and could fill a role after Mitch Brown's delisting. Stands at 193cm and some clubs see him as a forward, where he played early in his time at Punt Road, or as a defender, where he was used in parts this year. Played the last of eight AFL games in 2018.
Connor Menadue
Had early interest from Fremantle which has dissipated after the Dockers landed James Aish and Blake Acres in the Telstra AFL Trade Period. His best-on-ground VFL preliminary final with 27 disposals and three goals impressed a few clubs. The dashing wingman played 39 games across five seasons at Richmond, including six games in 2019.
Jacob Townsend
Townsend could follow Eddie Betts (Carlton) and Zac Smith (Gold Coast) in returning to where his career began, with the Giants interested in bringing the discarded Tiger back. He was an unlikely spark plug in attack in Richmond's 2017 premiership and is a tackling machine but was sighted just once at AFL level this year.

Pretty sure I saw on Pail Amy's Twitter feed that Menadue has signed with Werribee if he doesn't get picked up

Yeah and that's his level IMO but maybe he will get a game elsewhere.
Bit of a Kelvin Moore this guy. Best player not getting a game haha.
-
But but but he tore up the VFL finals and played a good half against Freo once....:shh
-
Menadue presumbly now off to Werribee. Any news on Towner or Moore? Would either stick around and play for our VFL side?

The word at the VFL GF was that Towner was playing @ Keilor in 2020
Effinscum are apparently interested

Townsend to become a Bomber as early as today. Essendon want to play him onball.

Yes I'm sure the Bumblers will get him to succeed in the position he's repeatedly failed in at AFL level at two previous clubs including a premiership club.. :shh

RICHMOND premiership player Jacob Townsend will attempt to reignite his career at a third AFL club after being thrown a lifeline by Essendon.
In a move that was first reported by AFL.com.au, the 26-year-old, who was delisted by the reigning premier, signed with the Bombers during the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP).
A childhood Essendon fan, Townsend is expected to add greater flexibility to the Dons with his ability to play as a bash-and-crash inside midfielder and as a defensive forward capable of kicking bags of goals, just as he did during his remarkable renaissance in 2017 when he became a Tigers premiership hero.
Bombers list and recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro was excited by the possibilities.
"Jacob will provide us with a really hard edge. He is a player that is really combative, and we felt that we needed these attributes in our line-up," Dodoro said.
"Jacob has the ability to apply pressure in our forward line, but we are also confident that he can play inside as a big-bodied midfielder.
"The focus for us was to find experienced players during this period and we believe Jacob can play a great role and have an instant impact at the club."

At VFL level he can but not at AFL level.
Dodoro making sure Essendon spend another year in mid-ladder - can't win a final - no man's land.
