Prestia was one of our best.

He showed glimpses but he's always awful when he first comes back from injury... :shh

Should of brought back Grigg out of retirement rather than play Chol

Did you blokes see the same game.
It was solid return and he will be better for the hit out.
A little outside than he normally plays but that may have been the plan.
Granted wasn’t damaging in the forward half but he worked hard both ways mostly in defence.
A little less output in the second half.
He will be better with a game under his belt.
-
INS: Lynch, Caddy, Ross
OUTS: Chol, Aarts, Houli

Yeah I watched the game. Yes he got plenty of the ball
But.....
He got caught a few times because he was slightly of the pace of the game, lacked awareness.
They were momentum killers when we were getting back into the game.
He lacked match conditioning and it showed as the game went on
-
We got to sort the ruck and forward line sorted it out.
-
Yep Aarts out too for a mid. Jack Ross
-
Time to pull the emergency lever...#RCD :shh

I can’t believe how little impact Chol is having, thought he was showing some promise but his offsets seem insipid

He was slightly off pace but wasn’t any more caught more than anyone of our midfielders tonight.
Bolton, Cotch Edwards And Martin all looked under pressure and below the pace at times.
Martin Nankervis and Cotchin all below 50% disposal efficiency.
The lions took our pressure up to us and beat us at our own game and didn’t allow us to get our forward handball game going at all.
Prestia in the other hand despite being under conditioned unlike all the others still managed to have a decent impact with his disposal especially out of the back half.
To suggest he shouldn’t of played is a massive call because he showed he was up to the task despite him being below his normal output.
-
OUTS: Chol. Aarts. Pickett
INS: Lynch, Ross, Caddy (wing)
Pickett was woeful tonight by foot. I don’t think he hit a target with any kick
His pressure was ok but he needs to learn that tackling is the goto in our game. Never bump!
Caddy is a finals player we need. He’s got the runs on the board.

Picketts game was one of the most frustrating games by an individual player I’ve seen in a long time. Worst? No. Frustrating? Yes. Drop him

Tigers gun confirms availability for must-win final
Foxsports
October 3, 2020 10:10am
Key forward Tom Lynch has declared he will be a certain starter in Richmond’s crucial clash in the second week of finals.
The Tigers lost to the Lions on Friday night with the star unable to be passed fit for the clash.
However, Lynch has revealed he was surprised to not be given the all clear after training strongly last week, confirming he will play against St Kilda or the Western Bulldogs.
Lynch declared he trained at 80 per cent on Wednesday, with the club likely to recall the former Sun in the place of Mabior Chol.
“I thought I was fine. I ran Saturday and thought I was all good and ticked everything off and apparently not,” Lynch told AFL Nation.
“It was very touch and go, but I was as surprised as everyone.
“The medical team, I think they just weren’t convinced I was 100 per cent. I’ve never done a hamstring before so I guess I’m not the best person to get advice off.
“I think they just thought it was too big of a risk and to give myself another week.
“I did a big session Saturday and thought I did everything well, but Damien Hardwick rang me Monday and said we’re not going to go with you.”

We had some serious passengers , and they can’t be rewarded IMO

As cruel as it was the Footy Gods smiled on us with that last minute injury to Ryder.... :shh
-
Cotchin said he expected Tom Lynch to play the semi-final on Friday against the Saints after he missed the qualifying final.
"My understanding he is training really well and I think it is just a matter of ticking off the main session this week and [then] he'll be available to play, which is really exciting for our group."

AT SELECTION
Richmond will almost certainly regain spearhead Tom Lynch, and not a moment too soon. The struggling Mabior Chol is the man who will most likely make way for the former Gold Coast co-captain, who will ironically play a final at Metricon Stadium before the Suns have managed to do so.
Dual premiership players Josh Caddy and Nathan Broad were both emergencies against Brisbane and on the cusp of selection. Broad has been trialled in the ruck at the lower level and could theoretically support Toby Nankervis.
Jake Aarts was quiet against Brisbane and looks the most vulnerable of Richmond's small forwards.

I have this feeling that Butler will show what we missed with him. He is looking pretty good at St Kilda, the mullet suits him :shh :shh
-
I have no idea why anyone would want Caddy to play. He’s only ever been an option in our forward line when we’ve had one key forward. So slow.
Broads an interesting one.
Would he be able to replace Pickett and then pinch hit in the ruck?
Pickett is a 50:50 atm
-
Won't be surprised if Caddy ends up at a fourth club at some point...journeyman... :shh
-
Sounds like Lynch trained fully today going by RFC twitter and pics from training :thumbsup.
-
Wouldn't be surprised if Josh kicks 3 this week on return.

For me:
OUT
Chol
Aarts
Pickett
IN
Lynch
Caddy
Broad
Broad either wing/ruck relief, or backline with Balta to pop out for wing/ruck relief.

I/C: Dan Hannebery, Dean Kent, Ben Paton, Jack Sinclair
Team tips:
Richmond is certain to make at least one change with Tom Lynch coming back into the side after recovering from a hamstring injury. The Tigers may also consider adding Josh Caddy to the side, with tall Mabior Chol in the firing line after going goalless against the Lions. Marlion Pickett had some poor passages and might be another in the mix to miss out.
St Kilda appears likely to have at least three changes, with Jake Carlisle (personal), Paddy Ryder (injured) and Ben Long (suspension) set to miss the match. Carlisle has returned for the birth of his child, while Ryder is out for the rest of the year due to a hamstring injury. The Saints will take Long’s suspension to the tribunal on Wednesday, but appear unlikely to have it overturned. Coach Brett Ratten told Triple M Josh Battle was in the frame to return from injury, while Dylan Roberton could make a remarkable return with Jonathon Marsh also in the mix. Shane Savage and Nick Hind are among the candidates the replace Long.

Caddy got left for dead on the wing the last time we played the Saints (granted he was underdone). The Saint wingers (Hill especially) just ran away from him and he couldn't go with their speed. If Caddy did come in it would be more as a forward you'd think. He and his physicality is going to be needed against Port though if we get that far.

Agreed.
Edwards on a wing? Elsewise they were training broad there too. I want him back in the side also.
-
Wouldn’t mind if Astbury missed this week.
Another runner would be good IMO against St Kilda.
Maybe even Broad is a better fit??
And the Saints are not super tall up forward either.
Balta to King
Grimes to Marsh
Vlastuin to Membrey
I personally think since Dave has been back, we have looked slower out of defence.

Sheds could play wing but Caddy can't play Sheds current role either.
Broad's best footy IMO is playing on high tall-ish forwards who lead up to the wing (i.e. Adelaide's Tom Lynch) but he's been squeezed out of our backline due to a drop in form and Astbury coming back. Seems Astbury is now doing Balta's role on the stay at home tall forward while Balta has moved to Broad's old role. We could try Broad as a second ruck and play taller around the ground to try to win the game in the air but it could backfire against St Kilda's speed if conditions become dewy.

I would play Caddy up forward. Perhaps because of concerns regarding St Kilda's speed Markov comes in and does a close checking role. Want Broad back in the team as well but not sure where they will fit him in.

Agree, headache for selectors, the only way this can happen is take Astbury out, ? but need speed.
Would be interesting to see Balta on the wing...

We did look a bucket load better with Balta as the main big down back.
Horses for courses. Astbury out, Brave Brandos mate back in

No, i dont think so.
Happy for Astbury to stay in. Played well vs lions. Need to move Balta up and bring in broad/caddy. Those two are tough, nasty men.

SEMI-FINAL ONE
Richmond v St Kilda, Metricon Stadium, 6.50pm AEST
Richmond
B: Dylan Grimes, David Astbury, Noah Balta
HB: Bachar Houli, Nick Vlastuin, Jayden Short
C: Kamdyn McIntosh, Jack Graham, Marlion Pickett
HF: Jake Aarts, Tom Lynch, Dustin Martin
F: Jason Castagna, Jack Riewoldt, Daniel Rioli

Emerg: Josh Caddy, Mabior Chol, Jack Ross, Nathan Broad
In: Tom Lynch
Out: Mabior Chol
UNAVAILABLE: Ivan Soldo (knee), Sydney Stack (suspension), Callum Coleman-Jones (suspension)
NOTES: Lynch returns to the side after missing last week's loss to Brisbane. Chol looks the likely one to make way despite Richmond usually going with two rucks, as well as Lynch and Riewoldt up forward. The Tigers will back Nankervis to do the majority of the ruckwork against the Saints, who will be without Paddy Ryder. Caddy and Broad will be in the mix if the Tigers opt for more experience, but it's hard to see who they replace.

Certainly gave us more on the wing than what we are getting from the blokes occupying them now. Was hoping some younger blokes would come on a bit and replace him

Although the Saints will be without injured ruckman Paddy Ryder and key defender Jake Carlisle, Hardwick said the Tigers would prefer to give their ruckman Toby Nankervis some more support in the warm conditions.
Lynch is expected to replace Mabior Chol against the Saints although Hardwick said they were weighing up whether to retain Chol or go with a different combination for Nankervis to lead.
Richmond used two ruckmen in last year's grand final but a knee injury to Ivan Soldo and the absence of Callum Coleman-Jones due to a protocol breach meant they were forced to look at other alternatives this season.
He said he had not ruled out using an undersized ruck although they would contemplate what structure the Saints might use before making that decision.
"We'll have a look at something different for this weekend's game," Hardwick said.
Nathan Broad, Oleg Markov and Josh Caddy will be available for selection after playing in a practice match on the Gold Coast on Saturday

With Dave back in the team now, why not push Balta up to the second ruck spot and bring Broady in to sure up the defence?

May be something we'll have to consider for overall team balance Willy but we don't know how Balta would do as a 2nd ruck further up the ground given he's trained, settled in and played well as a key defender all season. His efforts in the past as a 2nd ruck have been inconsistent. Cameo moments for a quarter or so mixed with hardly touching the ball :-\.

Team selection will be very interesting.

Tigers think big to stretch Saints to breaking point
Tom Lynch's return gives coach Damien Hardwick a chance to load up on talls for semi-final with St Kilda
By Callum Twomey
afl.com.au
7 October 2020
RICHMOND will consider loading up on talls in this week's must-win semi-final clash with St Kilda as the Saints face a shortage of big men.
The Tigers will be boosted by the inclusion of star forward Tom Lynch, and while Mabior Chol loomed as the possible omission, coach Damien Hardwick said the club was considering its options.
Hardwick noted the Tigers are keen to have ruck support for Toby Nankervis, who has shouldered the duties around the ground since Ivan Soldo's knee injury.
"Our preference is for 'Nank' to have a second ruck to go with, whether that's 'Mabs' or some other combination," the two-time premiership coach said on Wednesday.
"I think last week with the humidity in the game and 'Nank' being required to play 80 per cent [game time] and some forward, it was probably a little bit too much for him, especially when they had two genuine rucks as well.
"Hindsight's a wonderful thing. Would we have picked the same side last week as this week? We probably wouldn't. We've done a little bit of work on that, so we'll look at something different for this weekend's game."
The Saints have lost ruckman Paddy Ryder to a hamstring injury, while key back Jake Carlisle has left the club's hub to be with his pregnant partner ahead of the birth of their child.
There are also doubts on whether versatile tall Josh Battle will be ready to play on Friday night at Metricon Stadium as he manages a foot injury.

Hope so. He was rubbish. He had his chance

I agree, it's either him or George in the same team. Not both.

Willy's info on the money.
Mark Stevens on 7news just said Aarts looks like being the unlucky one to make way.

RICHMOND has dropped Jake Aarts from its team to face St Kilda on Friday night.
Foxfooty.com.au understands Damien Hardwick and his selection panel have made the call and notified the mature-age recruit of their decision.
The Tigers could bring back Josh Caddy or Tom Lynch for Aarts. The latter would represent a shift in thinking and allow Toby Nankervis and Mabior Chol to shoulder the ruck responsibilities.

If it was anyway successful during the practice matches then you would've thought we would've tried Pickett in the ruck during the H/A season when either Soldo or Nank were missing.

Hoping Chol keeps his spot just for the meltdowns... :shh
Last time Chol played against the Saints he kicked 3 goals ;D.
Saints bringing back Jonathan Marsh apparently to replace Ryder. We allowed him to kick a goal and have a goal assist against us last time :facepalm.
Battle did 85% of Saints training today according to the news tonight. Another we didn't respect last time either (16 disposals, 1 goal).
-
Pickett in the ruck would at least put him right in the guts which is where he plays his best footy IMO... :shh
-
We seriously couldn’t pick Chol again on the last few weeks form- he has been utterly putrid.
I would rather we moved Balta than play Chol.
The Saints aren’t tall and we could simply go back to Grimes, Astbury and Vlastuin as our key defenders.
Bring in Lynch and Markov and drop Aarts and Chol.
Play a quick moving defence with Markov, Baker, Houli and Short.
And stretch them defensively by playing Lynch, Jack and Balta resting forward with stints in the ruck.
Without a decent backup ruckman, we need to change things up with Balta IMO.
We cannot afford to carry anyone going forward and Chol is a liability!
-
ST KILDA coach Brett Ratten has all but confirmed Josh Battle and Jon Marsh will play against the Tigers, with the pair to replace Jake Carlisle and Paddy Ryder.
The final inclusion for Ben Long is set to be between Shane Savage, Nick Hind and Dylan Roberton, with Savage looming as the most likely inclusion for the Saints.
