Tipping Hardwick will talk about selecting Chol all week again...then won't... :shh :shh

Agree WP. Don't see us making any change unless forced to.

Having said that, George needs to lift in the Granny.

Players who should be nervous this week.

Pickett,  1 good quarter doesn't make up for 3 poor ones.

Castagna, quiet all night

Houli, panicky all night, no space no Houli.

I'd consider Castagna. As a small forward he was uncompetive tonight. I guess he plays his role but ge

George will lift next week.

Pickett probably too.

Doubt there will be any change but if Caddy is fit and we play Brisbane I'd like to see him out there.

No change, rucks worked well tonight, (Astbury) gives us an extra defender + and option in Balta going forward, to many +++'s, won't change, Pickett will hold spot.

Not that I thought we would be making a change anyway but playing Geelong takes away any 'playing a 2nd ruck' discussion.

Nank with Astbury/Balta plus Lynch up forward giving the big fella a chop out can match Stanley, Blicavs plus Hawkins in our defence.

OUTS: Pickett the fumbler / the one armed bumper.

INS: Caddy the cantankerous lip / The finals enforcer.

Caddy hasn't play in weeks and his body to take in a final this year is a huge risk.Rather Ross or Markov.Forward line is functioning well now with talls and smalls.Caddy not coming in playing wing.

Should play Caddy so he can shove it up his old team mates!

Need him to be nasty and take a couple of them out. I'm suggesting Dangerwank and Wanklett.

Team Tips: Second-half effort saves Tiger, marking power crucial for Cats

Matt Balmer
October 19, 2020
Source: FOX SPORTS

Both Geelong and Richmond are flying high after winning through to the Grand Final.

But will either side swing the selection axe?

PREDICTED TIGERS 22

No change.

B: David Astbury, Dylan Grimes, Noah Balta

HB: Liam Baker, Nick Vlastuin, Bachar Houli

C: Kamdyn McIntosh, Dion Prestia, Marlion Pickett

HF: Kane Lambert, Jason Castagna, Dustin Martin

F: Tom Lynch, Jack Riewoldt, Daniel Rioli

FOLL: Toby Nankervis, Shane Edwards, Trent Cotchin

I/C: Jack Graham, Jayden Short, Shai Bolton, Nathan Broad

EMG: Oleg Markov, Josh Caddy, Mabior Chol, Jake Aarts

The Tigers appear certain to make no change meaning Josh Caddy won’t win his spot back after an inconsistent season.

Caddy is a two-time premiership player, but has struggled with his form and battles injury throughout 2020.

With Mabior Chol not winning selection against Port Adelaide, a team his height might’ve match up best against out of all the finals teams, he would be an outside chance to return.

Oleg Markov and Jake Aarts have both impressed in the second-half of the year but were pushed out when Shane Edwards, Bachar Houli and Dion Prestia returned after long lay-offs.

Five-time premiership Hawk Dermott Brereton believed last year’s Grand Final story Marlion Pickett won’t be dropped for the match, despite an underwhelming finals series.

“The boy wonder from last year’s Grand Final is lucky he had a competent second-half, Marlion Pickett,” he said on Fox Footy’s First Crack.

“He was very flaky in the first half and I was looking at it ‘C’mon son, hang onto the ball and don’t cough it up’. If he had an average second half you’re bringing in one of the more experienced boys who have been there already.

“But he came good in the second half and probably still gets the nod.”

PREDICTED CATS 22

No change.

B: Jack Henry, Harry Taylor, Jake Kolodjashnij

HB: Lachie Henderson, Mark Blicavs, Tom Stewart

C: Mitch Duncan, Joel Selwood, Sam Menegola

HF: Luke Dahlhaus, Gary Rohan, Gryan Miers

F: Gary Ablett, Tom Hawkins, Sam Simpson

FOLL: Rhys Stanley, Patrick Dangerfield, Cam Guthrie

I/C: Jed Bews, Brandan Parfitt, Zach Tuohy, Mark O’Connor

EMG: Tom Atkins, Zach Guthrie, Esava Ratugolea, Bradley Close

The Cats are also very settled on their side with key forward Esava Ratugolea the player who would appear the closest to gain selection, after booting two goals and clunking seven marks against the Tigers in Round 17.

But the young tall was dropped before finals, with Patrick Dangerfield utilised inside 50 in a more prominent role.

Brereton believed it was a discussion worth having, given his extra height inside 50.

“I look at Geelong and I look at their build right now, some players might be a little old, but they are an Esava Ratugolea game away from winning a premiership,” he said.

“Esava Ratugolea, Richmond were powerless to stopping him marking. As much as he did that, he just doesn’t score goals. If he could somehow get the ball through the goals, he’s a lock in Geelong’s forward line.

“Tom Hawkins as powerful as he is, out marks opponents when he is one-on-one, because Tom doesn’t jump. He’s not a big jumper at the footy, he pushes and out marks.

“Gary Rohan beats his opponent to the drop of the ball, he doesn’t really jump at the ball. They have no-one who launches at the footy when it comes in high. Tom will get there and push and shove, but if there’s three in the pack, one of them is jumping higher than Tom.

“That’s why Dangerfield has made such a huge change to their forward line when he goes there. Because he gets to the drop of the ball and launches. If they believe they can get parity in terms of inside 50s, I reckon you’re playing Paddy Dangerfield in the forward line 80 per cent of the time.

“Even in a do or die clash, he’s that good as a pseudo key forward and launches at it like no one does in their forward line.”

Don’t know what thread to post this on but was just looking and if we go in unchanged on Saturday then 19 out of the 22 players in the grand final side will have been picked up in the draft. Only Nank, Prestia via trade and Lynch picked up in free agency. Massive credit to our drafting team!

In 2017 we had 17/22 drafted players (Townsend, Grigg, Caddy, nank and Prestia via trade).

In 2019 we had 18/22 drafted players (Caddy, nank and Prestia via trade and Lynch via free agency).

Hawkins is being quarantined away from his teammates after feeling sick, with the Cats taking every precaution to ensure nothing is passed to the players.

It’s understood the Coleman Medal winner was set to do a press conference on Monday, before veteran Harry Taylor stepped in with the Cats labelling the change due to a “family commitment”.

Hawkins has a sore throat and is staying alongside his family at the Royal Pines resort. He attended the Brownlow Medal on Sunday night alongside partner Emma.

The club will hold a main session on Wednesday, with all eyes on Geelong as to whether Hawkins will be available.

Sam Edmund on SEN said Geelong has told him Hawkins will train tomorrow but they wouldn't confirm nor deny he has been quarantined from his teammates.

You're supposed to stay in quarantine until you have no symptoms, even if you swab negative.

Swab has a 70% accuracy so you need two negatives and no symptoms!

Grand Final mock teams: Heartache, or is a selection bombshell coming?

Gun reporter Riley Beverdige predicts the teams for the 2020 Toyota AFL Grand Final

RICHMOND

B: Nathan Broad, Dylan Grimes, Noah Balta
HB: Liam Baker, Nick Vlastuin, Bachar Houli
C: Kamdyn McIntosh, Dion Prestia, Marlion Pickett
HF: Jack Graham, Tom Lynch, Dustin Martin
F: Jason Castagna, Jack Riewoldt, Shai Bolton
FOLL: Toby Nankervis, Shane Edwards, Trent Cotchin
I/C: David Astbury, Jayden Short, Daniel Rioli, Kane Lambert

EMG: Oleg Markov, Josh Caddy, Mabior Chol, Jake Aarts

NO CHANGE

The heartbreak story at Richmond will revolve around Aarts, who will likely miss his opportunity for a maiden premiership despite 14 impressive games this season. Chol, who has featured 11 times, will also likely be an emergency with Astbury set to support Nankervis as the second ruckman. Caddy, who has played eight games this year after dealing with a hamstring injury, has struggled to reclaim his place in the side and is very unlikely to vie for a third flag. Of any, Caddy appears the most likely to be on standby for a late inclusion. However, despite being involved in the 2017 and 2019 premiership teams, he remains an outside chance. Expect an unchanged team. But then again, this is Damien Hardwick in Grand Final week, so expect the unexpected. He did blood a debutant last year.

Chris Scott said Geelong will go in unchanged.

The Cats and Tigers will play at the Gabba tomorrow and only an injury at Richmond training this afternoon will result in either team making a change to their preliminary final team.
