Richmond has unveiled its Season 7 AFLW Indigenous Round jumper, set to be worn against Hawthorn at the Swinburne Centre this weekend and in the inaugural AFLW Dreamtime match in Round 4.
Indigenous artist Josie Atkinson (Gumbaynggirr) created the predominately black design following consultation with Gabby Seymour, Maddy Brancatisano, and Ellie McKenzie.

Richmond v Hawthorn Preview

9 September 2022
Richmond was tipped to be the big improver this season, but so far has failed to capitalise on the development it has shown. Goaling from just eight per cent of its forward 50 entries, the Tigers' biggest asset of last season - forward efficiency - has disappeared. Keeping the ball in attack is one thing, but the biggest challenge for them against Hawthorn is to exploit a less experienced defensive unit and pile on a big score for the first time this season.
Similarly, the Hawks last week did well to move the ball into attack, but simply cannot transition that into scores. Now, without ruck support Tamara Luke and experienced utility Louise Stephenson, the challenge becomes even tougher. Stephenson has been important to the Hawks when it comes to winning the ball at centre bounces, so without her Tilly Lucas-Rodd must take on even more responsibility through the middle, and their brigade of talented young players also need to be a real presence at the contest. Without that, the class of Monique Conti and Grace Egan will see the Tigers waltz from stoppages and take command of the game.
Tip: The Tigers will post their first win of the season. Richmond by 16 points.

McKenzie ran from the centre bouncing to 35m out and kicks to Wakefield by the point post. In board to Egan on a better angle. Goal! :gotigers
Rich 1.0-6
Haw 0.0-0
-
Kelly marks 80 out. Kicks to McKenzie on 50 who hands off quickly to Conti who nails her shot on the run :gotigers
Rich 2.0-12
Haw 0.0-0

That U10s error was as dumb as the men. You don't dish off the handball to your teammate running past until your opponent commits to you first :facepalm. Turnover leads to a Hawthorn goal.

Quarter time
Richmond 2.0-12
Hawthorn 1.1-7

TBBH
I have no idea
-
Now he's got McKenzie at full forward
Give me strength
-
Right now it's Conti's class vs Hawthorn.
Richmond 3.0-18
Hawthorn 1.1-7
-
Poppy Kelly off with a rolled ankle.
Now he's got McKenzie at full forward
Give me strength
I've got no idea what Ferguson is doing with the side. It just looks disorganised with low percentage options. Like we're hoping to create something out of nothing or relying on the class of Conti to save the day.
Compare that to Hawthorn with the ball where you can see what they are trying to do even if they aren't good enough to pull it off.
-
Finally one of our small/midsized forwards is front and square to Wakefield. Footy isn't a hard game to understand. Crumbing goal to Ried :gotigers.
Rich 4.0-24
Haw 1.1-7
-
Half-time
Richmond 2.0 4.0-24
Hawthorn 1.1 1.1-7

Yep.
We sacked our first coach but at least with Tom Hunter you could see the plan. Now I'm just confused. He's trying to get them to play like the men's team and we don't have enough Contis, Brennan's, McKenzies and Hoskings for that
Compare that to Hawthorn with the ball where you can see what they are trying to do even if they aren't good enough to pull it off.
That's why Bec Goddard is a brilliant coach, a premiership coach. And to think we could have had her :banghead
-
Another stunning display by the umpires
Read today they get about $4k a game
Way they are going in this comp they should be getting $4 a game
-
That play inside our forward line 15m out just then is a perfect example. A clear plan would have us set up with teammate behind the ball in the clear inside F50 to quickly pass to and mark for a set shot on goal. Better than this rugby-like scrap of just trying to burst through, getting nowhere and not scoring from multiple aimless possessions.
-
Thank God for Mon Conti
Best player in the comp by a mile
-
Right now it's Conti's class vs Hawthorn.
Bump. 3 goals and 19 possies to Conti. A class above! :gotigers
Richmond 5.1-31
Hawthorn 1.1-7
-
McKenzie from the pocket! Goal! :gotigers
Rich 6.1-37
Haw 1.1-7
-
Goal to the player who will be one the top 3 in the comp in next 3 years = Ellie McKenzie
-
3/4 time
Richmond 6.1-37
Hawthorn 1.1-7
Goals: Conti 3, McKenzie, Egan, Reid.
-
Goal to Wakefield after a 50
6 goals up
Which is what it should be
-
I may be being harsh but it annoys me when we pass off the ball within what should be kicking distance at AFLW level (<35m directly in front).
Anyway, Dempsey who got the free 35m out hits up Wakefield 25 out. Gets 50 and a goal.
Rich 7.2-44
Haw 1.1-7
-
And that there is why I get annoyed. More likely to turn it over than play what should be the % kick.
-
Won by 35 pts.
Final Score
Richmond 2.0 4.0 6.1 7.2-44
Hawthorn 1.1 1.1 1.1 1.3-9
Goals: Conti 3, McKenzie, Wakefield, Egan, Reid.
-
Take the win, bank the 4 points and a good boost to %
Result is exactly what it should be against one of the new sides
There is absolutely no excuse for not beating all the newbie sides
Great games by Conti, McKenzie ans Sherren
Wakefield as pir only strong marking forward was excellent as well
Seymour very good. Ditto Egan and both Hoskings
Reid's best game but she's still a worry. Doesn't attack the contest enough. Stands back too much
-
Don’t know how many possies Reid got, maybe 3
Fail to see anything positive about Williams either
-

Thought that contest in the 2nd where she bumped the Hawks player heavily was brilliant. Made up alot of ground to get to that contest
Kudos for that. She seems to spend alot of time on the pine, which I find strange as she brings a lot of defensive pressure which we desperately need

Our biggest problem atm imo is our forward line.
Playing a start up team like the Hawks with a domination of play and 5 out of our 7 goals were by our mids plus one gimme to Wakefield after she kicked a shocker.
Getting KB back will just paper over the cracks, badly need another goal kicker who can kick accurately more than 15m out.
Out; Reid and Williams, would bring back in Jacques and put Meg McDonald up there

Conti fires as Tigers dominate Hawks to get on the board

----------------------------------------------------------------------
A HIGHLY efficient Richmond notched its first win of the year at the expense of Hawthorn on Sunday the Swinburne Centre.
Monique Conti and Grace Egan dominated for the Tigers, both collecting 23 disposals and five clearances in 35-point win.
Eilish Sheerin began in defence but her impact was increasing felt forward as Richmond asserted their authority, and she finished with 20 possessions in the 7.2 (44) to 1.3 (9) contest.
The ability of Richmond's midfield to hit the scoreboard was game changing: Conti kicked three goals, while Ellie McKenzie and Egan managed a goal each. Courtney Wakefield and Stella Reid also hit the scoreboard, while Charlotte Baskaran contributed Hawthorn's only major.
Former No.1 draft pick McKenzie's full potential was on display as she put in an all-around athletic performance to create some of the Tigers' best highlights.
Richmond's dominance in the air (+22 for marks) was too much for the Hawks and ensured the Tigers won the territory battle.
Wakefield (six marks up forward), Egan and McKenzie (five each around the ground), Maddie Shevlin and Gabrielle Seymour (six and three respectively in defence) ensured Richmond controlled how the game was played.
While behind on the scoreboard, the Hawks were in the game up until quarter time through winning contested ball and clearances. However, led by Conti and Egan, the Richmond engine room went to work and the Hawks' hopes were snuffed out, and they were held goalless for the remainder of the game.
The dominance of the Richmond midfield resulted in higher-quality opportunities in their attacking zone. Despite relative parity in inside-50 entries for most of the match (+6 to Richmond), the Tigers' conversion rate of 38 per cent to Hawthorn's seven per cent continued to put distance between the two sides throughout the afternoon.
The Hawks' effort was not lacking, especially being a player down after losing Eliza Shannon to concussion in the second half.
Tilly Lucas-Rodd (17 disposals and 12 tackles), Aileen Gilroy (17 disposals and 8 tackles) were in the fight all afternoon. Kaitlyn Ashmore's energy was best epitomised through her constant running and eight tackles to go with her 13 possessions, and Catherine Brown also stood tall in an intriguing battle with Wakefield.
However, it was a powerful display by the Tigers, who now have reward for effort after showing potential in their opening games.
Conti's day out
Monique Conti's pedigree has never been in doubt and she enhanced her reputation with a midfield masterclass against the Hawks. Quality possession, often after winning her own ball, 11 ground ball gets on a wet day, three goals, and plenty of outside run showed why she is a nightmare match-up for opposition sides.
Eye-catching Ellie
Conti was best afield, but this game might be best remembered for McKenzie's magic. Her intent was clear early in the first quarter when she took four bounces and unselfishly set up Egan for the first goal of the match, and a couple of minutes later she helped create Conti's first of the day. McKenzie also showed she can influence the scoreboard by creating her own goal – a neat set shot finish from the boundary line – after her chase down tackle created a holding the ball decision.

Round 4 sees Richmond take on Essendon at ETU Stadium on Saturday.

Yeah pretty clear that Reid and Yassir are not up to it.
Williams shows glimpses but needs to convert those into scores while Brancatisano had a Molan like performance on Saturday.
We need Katie back badly and a classy small that can convert.

Watched the second half. We have a handful of very good players highlighted by conti and McKenzie who look like bonafide stars of the competition.
It’s obvious the foundation clubs have a significant advantage over the expansion clubs from being in the competition longer. It’s no wonder they occupy all of the top4 positions and 5 spots in the 8. Going even further it seems there has only been 1 game where an expansion club has beaten a foundation one this season.
All we can do is keep hitting the draft and bring in as much talent as possible to bridge the gap.

Richmond AFLW coach Ryan Ferguson says Sunday's 35-point win over Hawthorn was due reward for effort, after his side showed promise in the opening two rounds.
"We've been working towards it for a while and playing some really good footy but not quite getting some scoreboard result, so it's good to get the first win," Ferguson said post-match.
"We focused on all the small things. Particularly with the rain in the second half, it was just 'get down and get dirty' and work really hard, that was the focus."
Star midfielder Monique Conti continued her sizzling start to the season with a 23-disposals, three-goal performance.
"She's able to work both ways, put some pressure on and lay some tackles, but when the time is right, our mids have got to get dangerous and they did today," Ferguson said.
"It was good to see Grace Egan getting forward and even Eilish Sheerin off the back stuff.
"When it's time to attack we've got to attack, so it was good to see a few players putting some pressure on the opposition."
Former No. 1 draft pick Ellie McKenzie put in a dominant display, playing a hand in multiple goals to go along with her 17 disposals, five marks and a goal.
"We thought she had a really high impact today, with the ball and without the ball, strong in the air strong on the ground," Ferguson said.
"She set up our first two goals, and gave us a real impetus into the game and then finished strong."

No wonder these girls can't kick the ball when they are looking straight at it.
I know people who would go postal seeing this.
