9 changes since we last played them.

In: Vlastuin, Martin, Cotchin, Taranto, Balta, Hopper, Mansell, Ryan, Clarke.

Out: Tarrant, Edwards, Castagna, Aarts, Soldo, Nankervis, Dow, M.Rioli, Lynch*.

https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/2022/142020220709.html

Add Graham to the outs if he doesn't get up to play.

* Lynch did his hammy early in the first quarter, so he effectively missed most of the game last time.

From Barrett's 'Sliding Doors' column:

IF ...
on paper Gold Coast on Sunday presents as the much-needed sporting easy-kill ...

THEN ...
in reality it is anything but. There's a reason that only one win has been secured by this team in the opening six rounds – it is not very good.

Getting to this game has been a disaster.

Annoying there's no trains Camberwell - Box Hill but I get to Camberwell today and they tell me there's no trains running from there to the city either ffs.

Trying to get a damned train from Burnley now what a pain in the ass and dump of a place.

It’s just easier not to go to there. It’s No good, cold and soulless. Has no atmosphere.

I will not and refuse to attend home games at that venue.

So I’m on my cozy couch watching it on the big screen and after seeing frequent shots of Suns coach Stewie Dew on the Suns bench, I am feeling bloody good about my own fitness right now  :rollin

Club standards drop. This is why.

Everyone in the footy department is accountable for this drop in standards.

Why can't we kick a set shot anymore?

It’s a club culture problem. Sneaks in like a cancer.

It takes a whole club approach to eradicate the disease.

Raise standards and demand excellence in all areas no matter how insignificant.

It’s a good idea to reevaluate all processes and practices to see what isn’t working.

Identify where standards have dropped etc etc.

It’s so bad something has to be done to fix it.

How can a professional footy club have such poor skill execution?  It’s beyond belief.

We need an evaluation asap.

5 missed set shots (all gettable) & 3 of their 4 goals via our brain fades.

That's 8 goals!!!!!!! Richmondy on Steroids!!!!

There's the reason we have only won one game and based on that horrendous first half we'll throw this game away too against another ordinary side. That's why we are 16th.

We have a lot of players going at the end of the year , so we might have a lot new players.

To have a fire sale won’t work, unless clubs pay way overs like us we should be just letting our younger players go when we don’t have many in that age group
Our rebuild will be based on picking kids who are a gamble, as we only have late picks
So we might need get used of days like today
our attempt to win a sneaky flag with an ageing list is on life support if not dead on the starting line

Game plan is way too predictable.
Hardwick and coaches need to change it up because we no longer have the speed and killer instinct we used to.
Suns had players set up in the right spots and it played into their hands everytime we kicked out of defense or bombed it trying to hit the roof.
I've read posts about our fitness being an issue and after watching the first half (daughter and it had to leave at half time) it's bang on.
Turnovers, poor kicking and zero confidence. We are a bottom 6 side and it stinks.

What has happened to our skills and disposal it's embarrassing the worse in the league by a mile signs we're there in preseason. We can't even do the basics right. We look slow , unfit and our system and game plan is all over the shop.Club last 3 years didn't invest in our football department dropped the ball we hear covid crap etc all excuses other clubs hired quality we didn't look our fitness and medical nothing short of a mess we rested on our moral.

On top of that holding on senior blokes champions or not needed to go .Our kids take the rapt for there poor showing all year this year.

If our players spent less time high-fiving after the smallest of acts - good or bad - and more time doing footy basics maybe, just maybe, we'd not be so crapulent.

I've seen some Tigers shockers, and this one rates right up there.

Anyway, can’t complain too much, the group did net us 3 flags so we had a good run lol

"Richmond beating Richmond."

Has this become an ego thing with us? You know, we don't actually lose games of football, we just beat ourselves?

I think a good starting point for turning things around would be to admit that "Gold Coast beat Richmond." Then move on to "how?"

Just laughing my arse off at the comedy capers.

Really hope we do not do a WCE from here on in and continue to believe we dont need to go to kids.

The age demographic said 2020 was the last roll of the dice and we got lucky we won a flag. But winning flags also has its detrimental side. IT MAKES CLUBS BELIEVE THEY ARE STILL IN A WINDOW.

Thing is it has not been our belief where we are at but our Recruiting and list management that now has us where we are imo.
Trouble with that is we have to wait another year before we can get back into decent draft picks.

For me and i hope other realistic tiger supporters we now need to rebuild probably for the next 7 or 8 years. Bottom line is we have had our time in the sun we need to acknowledge where we are at or suffer for a long time.

Ive said this many times we were never close to another flag. Not even remotely IMO, and how people thought we were close was quite bemusing.

Our game plan sucks. We choked last year because our older players have become old all at once, and our youth are pretty crap.

we should never have recruited 2 of those gws players. One yes but 2 was criminal. Holes all over the park!

Not just that its what we are doing with development and list needs. Why in the reserves when we are so bereft of tall fwds is Bauer playing in defense.

We drafted him as a tall fwd because we are desperate for that type. Yet we ignore HIS development as a fwd and the need to FIND  a tall fwd and play him back. What the hell are we thinking. Imo he has shown himself to at least be a natural fwd in so many ways.

Why are we so often playing blokes out of their best roles? We are constantly doing this poo.
Mate i can go on and on but to be honest im over it. The vast majority of supporters just go along with what ever the club says and does and defends them vigorously even when it hits them in face that things are wrong.

As a club i think we are in the denial phase there is always an excuse. I just pray we don;'t take years to get to the reality phase.

I think you will be shocked WP at just vhow long it can take IF you get most things right yet alone when you get things wrong.
The other point is just how high you rate what kids we have and say the 24 thru 27 yr old group.

Take the oldies out there really is not a lot of high quality there imo. Do the exercise for yourself.
First off we have to find a core that will come together and gell at the right time. That will take how many seasons wp. then we need to get the core group to how many games collectively.

I will even ask you to look at our 2017 team a lot of the core and better players were taken before Hardwick even got there at the end of 2009.  2009 - 2017 thats 8 years and we had Rance, Riewoldt, Astbury Martin Cotchin, Edwards there in 2009 and i think Grimes was taken psd 09. Our 2017 premiership started before Hardwick got there or as he first stepped thru the door.
Imo there is no such thing as a 5 year rebuild..

OVERREACTIONS, POSITIVES, NEGATIVES & UNDROPPABLES IN ROUND 7

Andrew Slevison
SEN
2 May 2023

Key takeaways: Another error-riddled defeat

The Tigers gave away easy goals to the Suns early, some in calamitous circumstances.

Noah Balta and Tylar Young’s simple turnover kicks were glaring mistakes and these fundamental mishaps must stop if the Tigers are to start finding wins somewhere along the way.

Mistakes happen in games of footy, of course they do, but the manner in which these are occurring is troublesome.

Taking nothing away from the Suns, but to kick 6.12 under the roof is not good enough and to cough up easy goals to the opposition is unforgivable.

The Positive: Thank god for Taranto

The club has been pilloried for recruiting Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper, with some believing they’ve gambled away the future.

But imagine the mess they’d be in if it wasn’t for the presence of Taranto.

He had 32 disposals, a team-high eight clearances, a game-high eight score involvements, 564 metres gained (second overall for the game) and kicked a goal.

He would be comfortably leading Richmond’s best and fairest.

The development of emerging ruck/forward Samson Ryan is also a positive among all the negatives.

He kicked two goals from 11 disposals, won 12 hit-outs and took five marks. His finish on the run from an acute angle in the second quarter was quality.

The Negative: Marvel hoodoo continues

Richmond’s hatred or disdain for Marvel Stadium must change.

They have been woeful at the venue in recent times, losing five of six with the other being a draw.

The Tigers have to get over the fact the atmosphere might not be as vibrant as it is at the MCG. They never play this poorly interstate and something must change when they ‘travel’ to Docklands.

What to tweak: Forward line connection

The forward line connection is at a new low.

The Tigers had 53 inside 50s, as many as the Suns, but could only conjure a paltry score of 6.12.(48).

It was the second lowest score of the round which is nowhere near good enough if you want to be competing for finals.

They rank eighth in the league for total inside 50s, but that hasn’t transferred to scores in which they rank 16th with an average of 71.8 points per game.

Of course the absence of Tom Lynch leaves a gaping hole, but the connection between the mids and forwards simply has to be better.
