McKenzie will miss with an ankle :(, but Sarah Hosking will be back this week.
Richmond AFLW Injury List:
Test
Sarah Hosking, hamstring
Unavailable
Meagan Kiely, back (two weeks)
Charley Ryan, foot (three weeks)
Ellie McKenzie, ankle (TBC)
--------------------------------
Ellie McKenzie, ankle
"In the last two minutes of the game on Sunday, Ellie obtained a contact ankle injury. We're still waiting to see how it settles. She's currently getting a little bit of pain still through the ankle, we're hoping that it settles in the next couple of days. She'll be unavailable for this weekend, but we're hoping we'll be able to see her return to play pretty quickly."
Sarah Hosking, hamstring
"Sarah's looking great for this week. She had hamstring tendinopathy, an acute injury during training late in pre-season. It was unfortunate to miss that first round, but we know that she's hit all the loads that she needs to in the game. So, she's looking really good to be available for this weekend."
Meagan Kiely, back
"She had a reoccurrence of a back injury that she's had in previous seasons. We tried an aggressive approach to get her back pretty quickly, and it didn't settle as well as well as we hoped it would. So, we've just gone for more of a conservative approach at the moment. She's tracking really well in her rehab and responding great to the loads and extra variables that we're putting in. We're hoping she can play some scrimmage minutes this weekend, to then be available in the coming weeks."
Charley Ryan, foot
"Charley's returning from bone stress in her foot. In terms of the bone stress, it's (going) really good, but the complication is that she was also returning from an ACL injury. So, in the background, we're just making sure that she's strong enough in those areas responding from her ACL injury, but she's back into full training now and has had some exposure to match sim. We're still looking at a Round 4 or 5 return for Charley which is great."

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8
Richmond v Adelaide at Ikon Park, 5.05pm AEST
Richmond and Adelaide have only faced off once before, in round two last season. The Tigers took an unexpected lead into three-quarter time before the ultimate professionals that are the Crows put the foot down to win by nine points. This year, however, is a different prospect. Richmond has confidence after reaching its first ever finals series and backed it up with a win over Brisbane last week, while Adelaide had a chance to test some changes in round one's Showdown.
The Tigers found more outside ball last week than they averaged last season, playing their own game rather than focusing heavily on taking away their opponents' strengths. Richmond laid just 48 tackles – the fewest of any side across the weekend – and 51.1 per cent of its possession was uncontested, using the speed and space of Springfield to its advantage. Adelaide also showed off a slight shift in game style compared to last year. Still a high-possession team, it is trying to use the ball by hand a little more and make better use of its outside runners. As a result, this game should be quick with plenty of run and carry.
Tip: There is no harder game to tip this weekend. Richmond by one point.

A mixture of the rain stopping and the breeze favouring the Crows that quarter plus dumb play by us. Have modern footballers forgotten what being front and square is? :P

Our onballers got smashed that qtr. Hosking, Egan woeful. Even Conti well below her best.

Too many passengers so far. Ferguson needs to give them a blast. Adelaide working harder across the park. Arguably one tall too many up forward in these conditions as well.

Missing McKenzie's class around the ball big time.

Lynch sister is a disaster. Her hands are worse than Jack Grahams

Geez, this has been a dumb performance. Just because we won't play front and square and stand defensive side of the contest. Outplayed and out-coached.

Crows player front and square in support and surprise surprise they get the ball, free and goal. It's not hard Tiges but we've been dumb and reactive tonight :banghead.

If you can't score with the breeze then it's game over. Played like headless chooks tonight. Making every fundamental mistake in the book when the key tonight was K.I.S.S. footy. Feels like we haven't turned up to play tonight. Not willing to go first in, put your body on the line and win the ball. Too many Tigers on their heels reactive, ballwatching and waiting for the Crows players to get the ball. When we do have the ball we're panicking and there's no system to the play. FFS handballing and fumbling backwards :banghead.
-
Can we fall over and go to ground in the contest anymore tonight? :facepalm
Add another ballwatching effort as a Crows forward takes an uncontested mark.

Got what we deserved playing that dumb, lazy, reactive and soft crap. We were a clueless rabble tonight. A lesson in that you pay if you don't do the basics! Adelaide was more organised and outplayed and outworked us across the park.

Too many passengers as already mentioned.
Always an indictment on the 'effort' when you lose the tackle count despite chasing tail all night.

The Crows scored all six of their goals from stoppages, holding the Tigers scoreless after quarter time. The Crows collected 67 more uncontested possessions than the Tigers and generated 24 more inside 50s.
Adelaide has applied consistent pressure on Richmond all match, recording a pressure factor of 231 compared to 212 for the Tigers. Adelaide's pressure factor of 196 last round was considerably lower than their average of 214 last season.
Whilst the Tigers have equaled the Crows at contested possessions won pre-clearance (33 apiece), they have not been able to match them post-clearance. The Crows have won 10 more contested possessions post-clearance tonight. The Crows won 16 more contested possessions than the Tigers in their Round 2 encounter last season.
Monique Conti has been a shining light for the Tigers tonight, leading her team in disposals (27), contested possessions (13), intercept possessions (eight), clearances (nine) and inside 50s (four). Conti won a team-high 26 disposals last season against the Crows, as well as leading the Tigers in contested possessions (12) and tackles (seven).

It’s a joke
I didn’t watch a minute , but serious question
How many fat ones do Adelaide have ?
I’ll excuse skills , but being fat on a football field at the so called elite level is a joke
I don’t understand how they expect the supporters to take things seriously when some of the players clearly don’t
Really unfair on players like Conti who clearly have a lot of ability and an amazing attitude

Combined 14 disposals between the hosking sisters isn’t great given their experience.

Sarah Hosking played as a forward all game, so no surprise she didn't get much of it

Is that her new role now? I figured she’s a better accumulator than a forward

------------------------------------------------
Richmond AFLW fell to their first loss of the season on Friday night at Ikon Park as Adelaide ran away to a 29-point win.
Celebrating their captain Chelsea Randall's milestone 50th game, the Crows kicked away to win 6.5 (41) to 2.0 (12) at Ikon Park, punctuated by a stunning Danielle Ponter goal from the centre circle in the second quarter.
In wintery Melbourne conditions, both sides adapted well, willing the ball forward and trying to use space where possible, but also accepting that clean, uncontested footy was not going to be forthcoming.
But after the first break it was all Adelaide, keeping the Tigers scoreless for the final three quarters and piling on 34 points of its own.
The experience of the Crows just proved too much for the Tigers. Trapping the ball in attack for much of the third quarter the visitors really tested Richmond's defence, ultimately registering 44 inside 50s to the Tigers' 20.
Young Adelaide defender Kiera Mueller played handy roles on Katie Brennan and Caitlin Greiser for much of the night, keeping the Tigers captain goalless from seven disposals after a big game last week, while Zoe Prowse (11 disposals, three marks, nine intercepts) held strong as a key back for the Crows in the absence of Sarah Allan.
For the Tigers, Monique Conti's slick movement around the contest was immediately on show early as she gathered eight disposals and five clearances in the first quarter to finish with 29 disposals, nine clearances and 406 metres gained in a commanding performance in the middle.
She was assisted around the footy by ruck Gabby Seymour, who worked tirelessly to register 20 hit-outs and 16 disposals.
Up next
Richmond will lick its wounds before travelling to Blacktown International Sportspark to face the Giants on Saturday

Well that was embarrassing :banghead
Think we stuffed up at selection. Considering the weather forecast we were far too top heavy. At vwrious times we had Greiser, Darcy, King lumped in the forward 50, none are quick and King and to lesser extent Darcy are not good below their knees. Greiser needs to lead more. Picture playing Nank, Soldo and Ryan in the F50 all together and you'll get the picture
Yassir was disappointing. Her role is to be at the foot of pack's when the forwards bring it to ground and to pressure so the opposition doesn't get easy clearances. Adelaide started alto of their transitions attacks through her tonight. It was left to Sarah Hosking to do that and she did it well
Just a really disappointing night. All the good from last week's win is basically null and void after tonight :thumbsdown
But at least I had a nice chat to Tom Lynch ;D
-
Is that her new role now? I figured she’s a better accumulator than a forward
I think it has alot to do with her coming back from a nasty hamstring tendon injury
-
Terrible performance. I totally agree with WP that we went in way too tall. No point playing poppy Kelly in this weather.
But the worst of it is that almost all the girls had a touch of the Poppy Kelly’s tonight couldn’t mark, kick or handball effectively all game.
Unlike the crows we were fumbly and couldn’t take a mark to save a life. Whilst the crows girls adapted well to the conditions and worked hard to spread and create options for an easy pass.
They kept it simple by marking on the chest nearly every time and taught us a lesson.
Big loss losing Mackenzie.
Conti is the best in the league by a mile.
Seymour battled hard all game and Dempsey was consistent all game as was Sheerin.
Our defence had a terrible night.
-
The G-Train needs to renamed the P-Train. A pathetic decision to recruit her. Worse decision than the Hopper one.

I have a serious question not taking a pot shot
What do you base your "fat ones" comment on? A players body shape? Their lack of speed? What exactly?
As players' weights (rightly IMHO) don't get listed for the AFLW due to the vile comments made on social media back in season 1. Thet were horrific.
So I'm interested to know how one decides what determines a "fat one"

Not sure you answered my question. But I'll take your comment to mean body shape. And as aside I have no idea which players you're talking about TBH
So to answer your question there were a couple of Adelaide players who would probably fall under your category of "fat ones"
As for the competition being elite. It isn't a truly elite competition as the players are only semi professional. The majority still work so unlike the men they do not spend full days training getting in the conditioning
But one of the supposedly best players in the comp is a solid body shape but very fit. I'd be interested to know how you'd classify her
As for the vile comments in the AFL I don't ever recall a male player due to their size being called a "fat useless (insert c word here) who couldn't score a root with a dog" or being called a lazy lard arse because of their size. And those 2 were mild
There a some blokes running around in the AFL at the moment who don't look like a picture of fitness but we don't hear a word

Not sure I explained myself too well there
Good example of solid is Maddie Prespakis from Essendon who has won the AFLW's equivalent to the Brownlow. She is an elite player. But i think some would suggest she is "solid". As I posted before I'd be curious to know how you'd describe her?
I never said any AFL players were fat. I said there are some who don't look like a picture of fitness
Gotta say in his last 2 seasons Buddy Franklin didn't look incredibly fit, maybe it's those tight fitting guernseys these days ;D

There's a greater connection between fat levels and hormonal levels in the female anatomy. While there are obviously healthy slim fit women, not all healthy female body types fit that description. It can be just as unhealthy to have too low fat levels in the female body (that causes severe hormonal imbalance), as it is to have too high fat levels and be overweight. It's different to most of us blokes who put on weight just by putting too much food in our gob or not exercising enough.

McKenzie a a 'week by week' chance
By Gemma Bastiani
AFL Media
9 September 2023
RICHMOND coach Ryan Ferguson has said that the availability of star midfielder Ellie McKenzie will be a "week-by-week proposition" after his side fell to Adelaide on Friday night.
McKenzie, who registered 15 disposals and 325 metres gained in the Tigers' win over Brisbane last week, came off the ground with an ankle complaint in the dying minutes of the game, subsequently ruling her out of Friday's clash with the Crows.
"We're hopeful it won't be long," Ferguson said of McKenzie's expected time on the sidelines.
"She'll be a week-by-week proposition essentially, just going to see how (her ankle) continues to settle and how quickly we can get it going again. But it will literally be a week by week proposition, I think."
Richmond missed McKenzie in the contest against the Crows, with Monique Conti shouldering most of the load. Conti, with a game-high 29 disposals, won more than a third of the Tigers' clearances, while the next most in the yellow and black had three.
"We missed Ellie a little bit today for sure," Ferguson said.
"So, just to make sure we've got some more dynamic players in there, it's more the balance than anything. We'll play around with what that looks like if Ellie's in the team, if she's out of the team, how can we make sure we balance up in the midfield."

I think calling one of our senior men or women players fat seems stupid. Nobody playing AFL is fat. Some maybe overweight compared to ideal playing weight. Willie Rioli is but doesn't impact him having his best year.

PLENTY playing AFLW are
And as for body shapes MT, what utter frogpoo
That girl WP mentioned that is a superstar , is deadset floppy fat .. that isn’t “body shape” .. that’s being unfit
I can still remember the commotion when Motlop came back from his turtle preseason fat .. ditto Dean Rioli .. there was no uproar when their conditioning was pointed out and photos everywhere shaming them

Personally and I follow the AFLW closely I suggest that of the over 530 players on AFLW lists less than 3% are overweight. I agree there are a number that don't look fit but I'd argue strongly that they are
The girl I mentioned is one of the best players in the AFLW and she is fit, her 2nd and 3rd efforts on the footy field prove it. She may not look it but she is.
I find it interesting that for people who don't watch AFLW the comments about what's wrong with game and the players continue to come thick and fast.
Solution is simple If you don't like it, don't enjoy it, then don't watch it

I don't
I don't
And, I don't
But the great thing is this, I can still have an opinion and comment on it ...
If they got fit, and improved (which I concede is happening slowly), then I might tune in and also be a bit more positive
As for Prespakis, imagine her second and third efforts if she was fit .. you can say she is, but the evidence (fat rolls) would disagree .. she might be an even better superstar .. just shows how much talent she actually has

Yep you can :thumbsup
But just so I am clear on what you're suggesting
Unless a AFLW player has a flat stomach, they are overweight (refuse to use the term fat) and in no way can they be considered fit?
An AFL player out of condition with the odd skinfold issue is simply unfit and cannot be overweight?
Or have I got that completely wrong?

If an AFL player is overweight, it’s absolutely unacceptable
It’s definitely an issue discussed in the media and by supporters … and we just delisted a bloke for this exact reason apparently
Side note , how ridiculous the word fat is now offensive .. we’ve gone PC mad as a country .. Australia has absolutely lost the plot
I’m fat , very fat .. yep overweight is fine to describe, but I’m fine with fat
Also , I didn’t say they need a flat stomach, I’m hardly requesting a 6-pack
I’m talking overweight, as in love handles and rolls of fat on the stomach
Lol at what people would say if Prespakis was a bloke and was in that “condition”
If she is a freak now, imagine her if totally fit
I suppose Sabrina Frederick was fit at Richmond .. 10kg overweight and ran like she was in quicksand

Due to the hit to our percentage, we've dropped down to 12th spot on the ladder :P.

You reap what you sow
