stuff me dead.
Full on.

I heard this when I was picking my kids up from school. Didn't believe it till some of the mums said it was true. Steve Irwin was a great ambassador for conservation and wildlife. We used to love watching "The Crocodile Hunter". Deepest sympathy to Terri Irwin and the kids.

sad news...he was a full-on bloke...such energy and passion...RIP Steve.

THE Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, is dead. It is believed he was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest.
He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary when it happened.
Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality today at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.
It is understood Irwin was killed around noon, Eastern Australian time.
A source said Irwin was already dead when his body was brought on to the island.
His body was being flown to Cairns Hospital in North Queensland for formal identification.
It's believed Mr Irwin's American-born wife Terri is trekking on Cradle Mountain in Tasmania.
Irwin - known worldwide as the Crocodile Hunter - is famous for his enthusiasm for wildlife and his catchcry "Crikey!".
The father of two's Crocodile Hunter program was first broadcast in 1992 and has been shown around the world on cable network Discovery.
He has also starred in movies and has developed the Australia Zoo wildlife park, north of Brisbane, which was started by his parents Bob and Lyn Irwin.

Believed to be filming a doco on the things that can kill you on the reef.
I guess he found out
Sad news
-
Well done on a gutsy innings. :thumbsup
The upside is he went out doing what he loved....what more can u ask ?
He actually gave me the sh its but in hindsight he was a real character.
-
Sad news. You've got to feel for his wife and young kids. RIP
-
very sad news :(
-
:( Sad news. My thoughts go out to the Irwin family.
-
Was never a fan, but he lived his life to the full. At the end of the day, that's all one can hope for.
-
Terrible news.
I thought he was a fantastic bloke and to see and feel the atmosphere at Australia Zoo earlier this year it is fantastic.
He will be sadly missed.
-
It's very sad indeed especially since he's left a young family behind.
What P1sses me off is the media now turning it into a circus. Especially when the say he was "attacked" by a stingray. We all know the stingray was just trying to get away and in the process hit him with the barb. It didn't hunt him down and strike like a shark FFS! :banghead
Oh well at least we know the world will always be a better place whilst the Sunrise Ambulance chasers broadcast on location. :banghead
-
He knew what he was doing and the risks he took, doesn't make it any less tragic. He will be a great loss for the widlife of this worldand the Australian environment.
Lets hope his legacy lives on.
Like he said on a Denton interview, it was people that scare him and not animals and I tend to agree.
Tiga, as per the media and the 'attacked' terminology, I am sure anyone with a modicum of sense would realise Irwins views on the situation.
Then again I doubt the sense of a lot of people these days.
-
They were debating today whether the doco including Irwin's final moments would be shown. Don't understand why anyone would want to watch someone else getting killed ???.

Furious to read what Germaine Greer wrote about the death of Steve Irwin. How can she even call herself an Australian when she's spent most of her life living in the UK? One lousy book and she thinks she's God!! I especially took to her comment that because Steve was born in Melbourne he should have known better about stingrays as they are apparently more common and larger in the southern States. Well I lived in Melbourne for 23 years and I never saw one stingray. And I would think that Steve Irwin knew a lot more about them than some ageing hippy. She reckons Steve tortured the animals on his show and in the end the animal kingdom got its revenge. Did she really watch any of the shows? I've seen him handle the some of the most poisonous snakes in the world and see how they relax in his hands. People all around the world are mouring the death of Steve Irwin. How many will mourn the death of Germaine Greer? More likely to be a case of Germaine who? Sure I understand that some people might not have liked him but now is not the time to air these views. >:( >:( :banghead :banghead

She is one disturbed individual and seems to be getting worse with age. I remember seeing her interviewed by Andrew Denton (last year?) and she said she only liked boys not men and that every male was a potential rapist ::). I don't know why the media even bother reporting her opinions anymore.

Give a person an inch and they take a mile - we've seen this megalomania before ;)
Some of these celebs - and I use the term loosely - think they're God's gift to humanity
stuff her - she brings her breed into disrepute lol
-
Greer is just an old fool that the media goes to for a "rent a quote". Maybe should spend more time focusing on platting her minge. (Her cat's name is minge :lol)
How about Naomi Robsons form on location wearing Khaki with a lizard on her shoulder. That's just crass :chuck
-
We laughed our heads off at that. She looks very nervous with that lizard perched there. C'mon Naomi - not all of us were born yesterday.
-
Big girls that I am, I cried buckets watching the memorial service. :'( Signed up to sponsor one of the cheetahs at Australia Zoo (we already sponsor Manas - one of the Bengal tigers) and made a donation to the tiger conservation program through Wildlife Warriors. :gotigers
-
Thought Bindi Irwin's speech was exceptional.
His ginge manager comes across as a bit of a loser. I don't know why he has to keep telling us he was Steve's best mate when he was not seems a bit selfish really.
-
Didnt watch it - what for?
-
Thought Bindi Irwin's speech was exceptional.
Yeah, she did well :thumbsup
Was never a fan, but he certainly impacted on a lot of lives.
I'd never heard of him until we had 2 Canadian boys come and stay with us in the late '90s, and they kept on talking about this Crocodile Hunter, and was amazed I'd never heard of him. He was huge overseas way back then.
Never expected this huge public reaction. Hopefully, the loss of him will leave a legacy to the betterment of our environment and wildlife
-
Thought Bindi Irwin's speech was exceptional.
One courageous little girl :clapping. A lot of pressure on the shoulders of the 8 year old too to keep the Zoo going.
-
I didn't know the bloke and I wasn't a huge fan, but I cried during the memorial service. :'(
Bindi is a brave little girl, I would never be able to do what she did :clapping
-
What P1sses me off is the media now turning it into a circus.
His manager/best mate is starting to pee me off lol
-
Anyone else notice channel 9 and America's ABC taking the p*ss by choosing RAY martin and BARB Walters respectively to do the Terri Irwin interviews. FFS have the poms got STING lined up to complete the humiliation.
-

He's really, really, really peeing me off now lol
-
its all bloody Terry's choice folks.
Dam Americans - had to get that vulture out here to interview her,
u know the one,the old Jew bitch.
