Mike Sheahan's Top 50
07 October 2006 Herald-Sun
Mike Sheahan
As usual, there are 15 to 20 players unlucky to miss. At least one at every club.
Kane Johnson and Brady Rawlings are best-and-fairest winners, but I have a strong leaning to players who win games rather than those employed to stop the opposition winning.
There are others who served notice they are going to be in contention for a long time. St Kilda's Brendon Goddard, who is justifying his selection at No.1 in the 2002 national draft, Collingwood's Dane Swan and Heath Shaw, Brent Stanton at Essendon, Brad Sewell at Hawthorn, Andrew Raines at Richmond, Port Adelaide's Danyle Pearce, and more.

Well done to my boy Simmo. Joel is no surprise. Would love to see Rainsey in there next year.

Agree with the Mike's placings for Simmo and Joel but he's kidding having Scarlett in the top 50 let alone at 22. Scarlett's first half of the year was shocking.
I wouldn't have Riewoldt as high at 7 either. Richo gets bagged for missing sitters but Nick is worse still. How many times this year did Riewoldt miss crucial goals. Neither would I have Clement at 16 as Swan and Shaw were just as key rebounders for the Pies when they were winning in the first half of the year. I would take Joel ahead of Clement but have neither in the top 20.
Embley is only in Mike's top 50 because he won the Norm Smith. He only had a average year before a blinder in the GF. Brett Burton was unlucky to miss out.
