Tiger ruckman to miss
Emma Quayle
The Age
March 25, 2007
RICHMOND will launch its 2007 season undeterred by its disappointing pre-season, but without ruckman Troy Simmonds.
The Tigers had hoped Simmonds, who had surgery on a fractured ankle in January, would be fit for round one, but coach Terry Wallace has revealed he is still a few weeks away.
"He won't make it. I don't think he'll get there," said Wallace. "We're keeping the door open and we'll keep working with him but, personally, I don't think he'll make it.
"We're looking at the first month or so, but the other thing is, you sort of look at each player having three practice matches as the perfect lead-in to the season.
"Do you play Troy straight away, off none, or do you let him run around for a couple of weeks in the VFL, so at least he's ready to go? That's the choice we'll have to make."
The Tigers were beaten badly by Geelong in their round-one NAB Cup clash, and lost practice matches to Melbourne and Sydney before beating Collingwood by seven points in their final trial last week.
Matthew Richardson (strained hamstring) has missed most of the pre-season games, as have recruits Kent Kingsley (ankle) and Ray Hall (hip).
Wallace described the Geelong loss as horrible, but said his side had slowly started to ramp things up in the weeks since despite its personnel problems.
"It's been a bit of a battle only because we haven't had the right cattle on the track. But we've got a little bit better and more mature each week so we're comfortable," he said.
"I think you'll find that what really has happened in the pre-season is the sides who have had the more mature sides have won, regardless of where you've been on the ladder.
"If you've had an average games tally of 70 on the park, you've been able to beat a top side if they've had an average games tally of 40.
"We haven't had an average games tally greater than our opposition in one game yet, and we won one out of the four games. Once we get into the season proper we'll start having everyone back together, and we'll be able to compete."

Unless you've seen the inside workings of an AFL club first hand don't be so quick to judge. I've seen two people I know who use to be support staff at two different AFL clubs get treated poorly and hence decide to leave. One at an interstate club who sacked their whole Victorian-based staff at one time simply through paranoid hatred of all things Victorian and flew in their own home based staff for each game in Victoria. Most of the Victorian staff were ex-pats too ::). This person now just follows his club from the stands.
Jack says he's still going to follow the Tigers. Following a team in a different code doesn't make you a turncoat ???. Hell I follow the Victory but Richmond always comes first.
-
Saying you won't put money in their coffers is not supporting the club, MT.

I took "no ton up/playerlink" as he's only just going to buy an ordinary, get you into the games only, adult membership from now on. Anyway that's his business. We do have a PMs here btw lol.
You wont see Simmonds till round 3-4
Yep at least. I reckon they were hoping (very optimistically) Simmo might respond to treatment quickly. To play round 1 he had to be in full training by last week. A bit of running and some light kick to kick always meant he was way off.
I'm glad in sort of a way. I'd rather him play 15 or 16 games near his best because he waited until his ankle and match fitness was right rather than 20 or so struggling because he rushed back.
-

Yes, we do ;)

Ha, brown-nosing for tickets to watch a pack of neanderthals sniff bums. 8) ;)
Sorry you've had your nose put out of joint, Jack. :( Nothing like RL to whet your apetite again for proper footy.

For what its worth, have already bought a membership and reserve seat for 2007.
And for what its worth , those who know me would know what a supporter I am. enough said.
I will be there watching Simmo in round 3 :cheers

Its a shame we arent playing at the Dome, MJS could have booked a nice late lunch on the water front and then accompanied his guest across the road to watch the Tigers and the Blues.
Come to think of it, that was the last time i seen MJS at a Carlton v Richmond game.
What a strange coincidence. :shh

For God's sake guys - it was an attempt at humour - shouldn't have wasted it on you two.

Is anyone else concerned about Brown missing 2 training sessions in a row?
TW said that Brown has been rested once a month, but from the training reports it doesn't seem that he has. A rumour cam out last week that he has a stress fracture in the leg, then he's missed 2 sessions. The club is still saying "he's 100% and flying" but then why would they rest him in the lead up to the season opener? Doesn't make sense. Critical time for memberships perhaps?
-
I dunno what everyone is talking about.
When I seed it ,I laffed too.

his preseason started way b4 everyone else
he trained in the rehab group in 1 session when he could have stayed home as it was his rest week
he then trained the next day
the game he missed was 50 degrees in the sun, intra club game and he was not the only one rested 4 that session
no need to be concerned and it has nothing to do with membership as we are already way up compared to last yr
he will play rnd 1 dont worry about that
btw , if he did have stress fractues he woudl have not even been training in a light session with the rehab group nor trained teh next day, he woudl have stayed home and rested
-

It sounded to me like you were taking the p1ss at the expense of a good bloke in Bull. Not sure what sort of relationship you have with him but I think there are other ways you could express your humour.

Browny wasn't wearing any brace around either leg last Wednesday like JON did over summer when he had a stress fracture caused by wrong footwear.
The Club had training at 11am today so it'll be interesting to know if Browny trained today.

Sounds as though you were right X and Browny won't be back until tomorrow. The next training session is listed on the RFC site as Friday but they must be having a closed session on Wednesday.

Simmonds to miss AFL round one
March 27, 2007
AAP
RICHMOND will head into its season opener against Carlton without ruckman Troy Simmonds, coach Terry Wallace has confirmed.
Simmonds has been battling an ankle injury and Wallace said it would be round three at the earliest before the big man returned.
Wallace had left the door open for Simmonds to play in round one after the 28-year-old showed good progress recovering from ankle surgery in January, but conceded it was too soon for him to play this weekend.
"In the initial stages, he had a spike in his training where all of a sudden we got hopeful that he might be able to make it for round one but it was a 10-week injury, we knew it was a 10-week injury," Wallace said.
The loss leaves the ruck duties against the Blues on Sunday on the shoulders of Trent Knobel and youngster Adam Pattison.
Pattison said he was "beaten pretty badly" in the hit-outs in a practice match against the Sydney Swans duo Darren Jolly and Peter Everitt earlier this month, but felt he had improved with subsequent games.
"Trent and myself are really looking forward to taking the load and getting the team off to a good start in the middle," Pattison said.
