Title: Richmond v Collingwood
Post by: cub on August 06, 2007, 10:34:15 AM
Some on here seem to be of the opinion that a win now would mean nothing.
Well I can tell u here and now, it will mean something to me.
WHY ? you ask
Because it is BLOODY Skunks and they are going for a top 4 spot.
If you cant get excited about winning a contest like this, well my friends u do not have yellow and black in ur viens.
I will be there in full voice (AND I MEAN FULL VOICE).
Forecast for Friday is 20 with a big crowd will be September like conditions for the Tigers 2nd win of the year. As close as we will get this year anyway says captain obvious  ;D
Lets stuff the Skunks  :gotigers

Totally agree CUB
We should treat it as our grand final
and the club if they have any substance should go all out to win this game
for the long suffering fans considering they are our most hated rival.
We saw Freo put a dent in W Coast chances why shouldn't we return the favour for the Pies. We match up well with the Pies so anything is possible. Of course I will be there and I am with you will be in full voice against the Scum.

As l would be a guest at this game to watch from a superbox full of CEO skunk supporters apart from my son
l'm thinking to cancel out because l already know the result the skunks will belt the living crap out of us to boost there percentage & take full advantage of it in thier placing for the finals
Plus anytime we have a game where someone has 50\100 game celebration we get pumped reguardless
Why would l waste my money & time going to see a game of tankers
as l said before Richmond will not win another game till they know Carlton has another victory
last time we played them l seen some best footy in the first half that l seen them play all year only to come out and tank the 2nd half to be disgraced & laughed at going out & Richmond supporters burning their membership skins & membership cards outside the MCC exit what a stuffing embarrassment to be a member
cya's next year from the AFL members stand

The last 4 weeks has been a little worrying. All 50+ point beatings, there could be another monster 100+ point blowout coming soon.

Us winning a game won't change anything with Carlton and the first pick. We're 2.5 games behind them. We just need them to win one more game to lose their priority pick. Hopefully the Dees do us that favour in R22.

They've already pencilled it in as a win - with their easy draw.

If you're desperate for a positive omen this week ....

The sixth-placed Magpies have been up and down over the past nine weeks:

WIN (Fremantle),
LOSS (Melbourne),
WIN (Sydney),
LOSS (Hawthorn),
WIN (St Kilda),
LOSS (Geelong),
WIN (Essendon),
LOSS (Brisbane Lions),
WIN (Carlton)
?     (Richmond)

i have a feeling about this week

think we may just win. the first 5 minutes will tell the story but the senior players and coach all have pressure on them and i reckon we will lift to win this

gut feeling says terry will change his game plan and has finally realised the crossroads has come

Browny's due and he's owned Collingwood. Even last year with his leg NQR he starred against the Maggies in the wet with 20 possies, 7 marks and kicked 2.4.

There would be nothing better than seeing anything close to 5 goals on Clement  :thumbsup :gotigers.

It's also meant to be windy and late rain on Friday.

I hope it buckets down.

I remember the wet last year against the Scum.

I am positive they only kicked 1 goal till half time to our 9.

Playing lower clubs won't hurt: McKenna
August 9, 2007 - 4:32PM

While Richmond's dismal season has sunk to a new low in the past few rounds, McKenna said the Tigers were one of many clubs that seemed to find a spark when they came up against Collingwood.

"I think every player fully understands, and the young kids that have played this year would understand, that you wear the black and white jumper, as big and as proud as it is, it's a love-hate relationship, they all want to knock off Collingwood," McKenna said.

"I reckon every game for these players, it's fantastic because we get to play in the Collingwood colours, but everyone wants to knock you off.

"Regardless of positions on the ladder and personnel, we know the next four (opponents) are going to come out like they have done for the previous 18 and come and whack into us because we're Collingwood.

Tigers ruckman ruled out of Pies clash
The Age
August 10, 2007 - 5:04PM

Richmond ruckman Troy Simmonds has pulled out of tonight's AFL clash with Collingwood at the MCG because of a virus which has put him in hospital.

The club said Simmonds had been suffering from a virus which had affected his breathing and was hospitalised last night.

But the Tigers said Simmonds' problem was believed to be a short-term one.

"He entered hospital last night as a precautionary measure to undergo some medical testing," the club said in a statement today.

"The club will give an update on Troy's health when it has the result of those tests, but expects this is only a short-term problem."

It is the latest setback for Simmonds, who missed the start of the season with a broken ankle and has managed just 10 matches for the struggling Tigers this season.

Most of senior players stood up tonight which allowed the cubs to do their thing. Sugar had a captain's game, Joel for most of the time used the ball long to advantage, Richo worked his guts out and beat Presti, Tucky killed them in the guts and got us moving early, Tivs hit targets with penetrating kicks and Petts acting skills were perfect ( :rollin at that free he got).

Lids showed what a damaging player he can be when moved forward. Patto had his best game. King held duckeggs. Thursty got a fist in most times. Lukey McGuane made a couple of errors but he got better as the game went along. How did Garry Lyon think Cloke deserved 1 vote  ???.

Just one of those games where everything we touched went right like Petts goal from the boundary and Lids snap that bounced over the Collingwood player and away from him through for a goal. Pie fans around us were going nuts over the umpiring. The whistle was put away for holding the ball tonight and push in the back.

Most pleasing we actually played football most of the night. Richo mentioned they simplified things this week and Terry allowed the senior players to organise drills at training. Interesting that tonight Plough tries some surprise moves when he hasn't the past few weeks. They all paid off too. Our forward line looked potent with Richo, Polak, Lids, Browny and Petts.

When we went direct and moved the ball quickly forward we kicked goals in a row yet when we stuffed around with it trying to maintain possession we coughed up goals and let the Pies back in the game. The only negative is our kick-ins still suck with the huddle. We don't use the new play-on immediately rule.

The best thing IMO from last night was when the Pies hit the front and looked like running over us we as a team were able to hang tough and then turn the tide in the second half and kick away to win comfortably. Something we haven't done all year.

Yeah reality will hit again next week against the Eagles in Perth but if you aren;t buzzing after last night then there's something wrong with you  :gotigers.

definitely. looked very dangerous going forward because Richo wasn't the only target.

great win , who cares about the season, it was over 10 weeks ago

what we wanted to see the terry make changes, and he did, in match up, game style etc. sure the players had alot to do with it, but terry allowed it to happen. isnt it amazing what a coach can do when the heat turns to him!

well done

it was a great team effort. everyone played a part.

sure foley was fantastic, and deledio was a machine, and the fwd line just worked for his other

but we cant forget the unsung heroes of the game, tambling work his butt off in the clinches and worked really hard at making sure teh ball did escape contested packs with ease, he was great in and under

and let us not forget the efforts of thursty, mguane and king

and what about patto and is engine and work ethic

sugar played his best game as captain, but i think its time that next yr

deledio is made captain
foley and patto vc's
thursty and tambling dvc's

we can still keep sugar joel and browny in the leadership group , but this change must be made next season

go tigers

I just so happy to be back on the winners list and I'm more than happy to eat my words as I did last night. What a bloody ripper. It was good to see that some of the lazy ones got up and stood up for the team.  :bow :thumbsup :clapping :clapping :clapping :clapping :clapping :clapping

Thank god for oer, cause I can hardly speak.

How good was that.
As a group they must be the most peeweak supporters. Leaving on mass half way through the last.
Good fun giving them the send off tho I must say  :rollin
And no song ffs - not good enough MCG.
Was sung plenty back at Punt road - haven't seen that many there all year  :gobdrop
And Stewie got his second appearance of the season :thumbsup

I gave them a song last nite at abt the 15 min mark of the last quarter.
Of course the bourbon was talking but here it is.

Crappy Collingwood forever
They know how to lose a game

Side by side they fail together
for another wasted September campaign.

Here their barrackers are shouting
Like all their morons do

For the premierships a pipedream
For the crappy Collingwood.

sugar played his best game as captain, but i think its time that next yr

deledio is made captain
foley and patto vc's
thursty and tambling dvc's

we can still keep sugar joel and browny in the leadership group , but this change must be made next season

go tigers
Lids was great because he's too tall for a midsized defender yet to nimble and quick for a tall defender but he's still learning (wait until he can cut it in the midfield). Foley IMV is putting his hand up as the next captain.

i still think a captian has to be a player who is a match winner. foley will be a hard working machine for us, but we need a judd , pavlich, j brown kinda matchwinner to be captain

about deledio......

he was never a pure onballer. he will have a rotaional role at times in the midfield, but i have a feeling he will play as a fwd from now on.

thats his natural game as a fwd. if he played just fwd from day one, no one would be saying buddy is god, but lids is god.  lids has more strings to his bow than buddy, for starters , lids can win contested ball and take contested marks!

expect to see lids and a 70% fwd and 30% onball from now on

That green laser did the trick. Sugar copped it on his face as did the Collingwood kid who missed his shot.

There was a bit of the Brad Johnsons about Deledios game on Friday night- and that would be a very very good outcome for our club if he reached that level.

Have to agree bluey_21 - have to say that the stat sheet wont show it but I thought Tamblings 2nd half in the middle was the best I've seen from him in a purely hardball/contested footy aspect. Though he was great

How much truth in the rumour that the players decided on the game plan and the playing positions etc on Fri night? If thats the case we could save a heap of money on coaches wages lol

Roughies rock bookies

RICHMOND and Melbourne surprised most tipsters with their upset wins, but some astute punters cleaned up.

TAB Sportsbet reported its biggest individual loss on an AFL game for at least a decade after the Tigers were backed from $6.25 to $4.40 and beat the Pies.

"It was a horrible result," Woods said. "I've been here for 10 years and can't recall a bigger loss on a game.

Big winning bets included:  $6000 on Richmond at $7 (Darwin Sportsbet);

Wobbly bank account

THE bank-building betting method of a Darwin Sportsbet punter came unstuck in a big way.

"This guy's been betting with us for three or four weeks, backing the sides who play the Tigers and the Blues," Daffy said. "He'd gradually built his profit to $7500, but went down in a big way with a $20,000 double on the Pies into Port."

Another big loser was the Centrebet punter who had $45,000 on the Pies at $1.12.

It's been much fun with all the Collingwood supporters around and me being unfazed by the constant "but you're still last" jibes because they can never hang around after I tell remind how we kill their chances year after year and how much we love it and start singing the song!!!   :rollin

Skunks ownage, it doesn't get much better.  :thumbsup

How about Garry Lyon making excuses for the Pies in the paper today. Saying they've had no Clement and Presti. How can that be an excuse when both played on Friday night and they still lost  ???.
