That's all we need before our season opener against Carlscum.
A trip to Geelong to have them knock out any confidence we may have
by giving us a belting and setting the standard the new season.  :banghead
Although on a positive the last time we went to Geelong and lost last year in round 18 we beat the Skunks in round 19  :thumbsup

The fragility of our confidence at the best of times makes me think otherwise so I am going on the evidence of the past..................
Hopefully for themselves and for our sanity Mr Magic the lads have a steely resolve that runs deep for this year and will be evident in all games..........

Most clubs will put their round 1 side on the park in the last practice match  :help.

On the positive side though Carlton will seem like a breeze after Geelong ;D

imo its the best match we could of hoped for before the season proper.

not interstate only 50 mins down the highway
will be the ultimate test against the reigning premiers at their home ground.
playing carlscum will seem a walk in the park after this.
dont care if we win or lose as long as we learn about the intensity needed and carry that into round1.

no problemos here

We actually had a much more steely resolve last year than in previous years but were unable to match our opponents over 4 quarters in strength, stamina and experience.  If we show the same resolve with another year of growing then it will play out favourably on the scoreboard.   :thumbsup

Happy enough with that , probably going away on saturday so it suits me.
Melbourne would have been better but might make a day of it and go across on the ferry  ;D

Tend to agree playing the best side in the comp isn't a bad way to go into rnd 1

I'll be waiting for round 1 thanks.
In regards to the match, best possible scenario and hope the Cats come out all guns blazing.
No more hiding Tigers - I have gagged myself from comment on coach and team performance but I will say this.

I believe it is as the AFL forbid clubs to play practice matches in the week immediately prior to round 1 beginning. Won't stop some clubs having another intra club match though.

It looks like The Cats will be fielding a close to full strength side. Would much rather win the season proper but if we can grab this one by the scruff of the neck and give them a good shake (whilst still experimenting/manipulating match ups). It could only be advantageous to the direction in which we are taking the list. Could be a springboard for the season proper, especially if we don't field a similar team to the Saints game, which i personally think alot of people perceived to being full strength. Let me just say i am not one of those people.

B:     King       Thursfield    Bowden
HB: McMahon     Moore      Newman
C:    Tivs            Foley         Polo
HF:  White        Richo        Petts
F:    Hughes      Lids          Brown
R:  Simmo        Tuck        Tambling

Yeah perhaps you're right RROFO. I wasn't sure with Edwards as he has just comeback from a minor quad. Plough seemed pretty pleased with Collo's first game when interviewed on SEN so perhaps Rainesy or another small will make way for Shane if he does come in. Connors missed a fair bit of the preseason so I'm guessing he'll need to still build up his match fitness at Coburg.

Big guns to return for Tigers clash
Bradley Green
03Mar08

GEELONG will field virtually its round one line-up in its final practice match of the pre-season against Richmond at Skilled Stadium on Friday.

The Cats are in an envious position heading into the start of their premiership defence in a fortnight, with just one player - All-Australian defender Matthew Egan - on their long-term injury list.

Several premiership stars will return for the match against the Tigers,  which starts at 4.30pm.

Geelong scored a comfortable 40-point win over Brisbane on the Gold Coast on Friday night and Cats assistant coach Brenton Sanderson said it was time to play their best side.

Well I would like to be confident but that team of Geelongs just looks far to strong to me. It would take a big step up by many of our guys to even challange them. All I am realy hoping for this season is that our 2nd, 3rd and 4th years guys take that next step and we can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

So what's Edwards done wrong, or is he our secret weapon for round 1.  ??? From MT's reports I was under the impression he was travelling ok and Petts seemed to mention him as part of the forward structure. Surprised he isn't even named in the squad even if he doesn't play. Especially when Collins is in.

He still has that quad problem yes MT?

So they must be keeping him in cotton wool and training only to avoid any knocks to it.

As mentioned in the training thread Edwards still had that quad injury last week but he looked to be moving fine yesterday. My only guess is they are bringing him back via Coburg first.

Good to see Cogs back  :thumbsup.

Hard to disagree with that tigersalive. Rainesy could miss out based on form or lack of it. McMahon or Polak could be late withdrawals going by them in rehab yesterday but Petts and Kingy also had niggles last week yet still played against the Swans.

That Geelong side looks menacing  :-\.

8 this year. So two to miss from the named squad of 28. Reckon Polak is doubtful this week.

Given it's the last practice match clubs could go with less on the bench to simulate round 1 as closely as possible.
Title: Polak is out of today's game
Post by: one-eyed on March 07, 2008, 03:58:09 AM
Polak will miss today's game.

For Geelong, Ottens, Selwood and Stokes won't play either. Apart from that the Cats are virtually at full strength.

Quote
from today's Herald-Sun

Big men Graham Polak (bruised heel) and Jay Schulz (cracked rib) will miss for the Tigers.

Ruckman Troy Simmonds will play after recovering from quad tightness.

King was hopeful coach Terry Wallace would have a full team to pick for the Tigers' March 20 season-opener against Carlton.

"You always say you're fit and healthy and ready to go," King said.

"If I can say the same thing on Saturday I'll be absolutely rapt because the last hitout is always a concern."

Ruckman Brad Ottens and NAB Rising Star Joel Selwood are late withdrawals with minor niggles.

we should get our timekeeper thats at the game to quickly blow the siren at the start, then blow it again after 1 second, ensuring the game is a draw at the end of the first quarter, the game starts again for the 2nd and our time keeper blows the siren after 1 second and the mighty tiges are level at half time, the same sequence for the 3rd quarter. At the start of the 4th quarter our time keeper should wait, if he sees that we have taken the the 1st centre clearance he should wait and see if we can score a point or a goal, if we do he blows the siren and we win by 1 point or 6 points, if we turnover the footy before scoring he must immediately blow the siren for a draw result. No injuries and we havent lost. It will be great for membership.

The improvement comes from them. If we get smashed by 100 again they need to take a good hard look at themselves. They had better not go into their shells, they should be very embarrassed.

what makes it scary is that the quarters are short
Richmonds mistake was not building a backline when it counted years ago & kept buying broken midfielders

Now lets all support the club and the decision makers down there.
Lets all get behind Wallace, March , Miller and co.
Common all you posters on this board, you all have been telling me what direction we are headed in.
Even KB said the message out of Punt Road today was that the tiges will thrilled with there pre-season form, lets all get behind them.

They are all doing a fantastic job, recruiting, developing players, introducing new games plans ( I love the one about running a round imaginative witches hats in D 50, just love it.)
So come Blaisee and Co, get behind the boys at punt road and enjoy the year.

Yep we can't blame Tivs for today. Does that mean he's not playing round 1? Collins and Edwards should have played though if the were fit.

Good to see Blingers named in the bests.

No injuries is about the only thing to be happy about. We won the last quarter so at least we played it out.

Win the last quarter when you 14 goals down at 3/4 time ,? come on MT. you are beginning to sound like the master of spin doctoring in Terry Wallet.

I cant wait to see what positive spin he puts on this.

Here's a tip - don't pay money to go to the footy tis season resting your hopes in 22 inept footballers who care more about what designer t-shirt they'll be wearing later on than the club.

Its totally illogical to, time after time, have your mood lowered by 22 blokes you don't know anything about other than they don't give a schit.

IDGAF if I'm not a passionate supporter - these w@nkers don't have a positive influence on my life so why bother putting money in their back pockets?

Scathing.....! :thumbsup

I think you have named the reason as to why so many of us take offense
by the performances of the club.

Best POST EVER!

I can't accept that. Not at all.

Your post, the one that you've repeated one thousand times, is the "best post ever" by virtue of sheer weight of numbers.

Going by the reports CUB Lids played forward for the first half so I'm guessing not unless he did when Lids was moved into the middle after half-time. HB may know.

Lids played half the game in the forward line and had approximately a qtr or so on the ball playing on Ablett...average game by Lids in my opinion and got absolutely slaughtered once he moved into the centre playing on GA...
