In circumstances like this I usually say that its a cheap win, that will cost us for years because we could have picked up the extra star player of the future via the draft. In many ways, todays performance rankles me because in many ways it was very cheap, with some pretty bad signs.
- lack of defensive pressure in midfield and defence
- no strategy with our kick ins and definately no strategy with opposition kick ins
- when matthew richardson leaves we are stuffed.
- to many passengers in the side, leaving it to just afew
On the other hand, todays performace was also good because, it showed that
- Brett Deledio can become the superstar we all hope for, tonight he was sensational, decisive running of the lines, creative brilliant stuff, and a long way from what we had the last few weeks which were in my opinion not good, id rather he have 25 possessions like tonight rather than the 35 of the past.
- Jarrad Oakley Nicholls is improving, he needs space and can deliver the footy ok now. His decision making is the only thing left that is questionable
- Richard Tambling, tonight added another feather to his bow, Tambling doesnt stay involved enough during games, tonight via accident or design, he played a fair amount in the back half and went on fantastic runs, now when he is having a bad patch, we can put him somewhere and he can contribute
- Jack Riewoldt - is coming along really nicely.
Those were just some of things that impressed me tonight. Tonight we lost a draft pick that I think we definately needed down the track, nevertheless, if Deledio and Tambling and the others can continue to run and show what they showed tonight in other games then tonight may not have just been another cheap win that costs us our future.
PS- When Richo retires we are terrible strife another sensational game either 2 votes or 3 votes depending on how the umps saw deledios game.
-
Thank god for Matty Richardson.
Great game by Lids as well.
Overall terrible game of footy
-
Well, that was a frustrating game in so many ways.
The first quarter was terrible, thanks to Richo we went in on only 9 points down. = Frustrating
The second quarter started badly, but then we delivered a withering burst of football that I haven't seen from us for a long time. Then we missed some sitters and instead of a 10, 11 or 12 goal quarter it was 8.6. = Frustrating
Like the Essendon game, I was hoping we'd now go out and bury them, but like the Tigers of old, we stopped and let the Dee's back in. = Frustrating
The 4th quarter I was expecting us to be run over, but Polak, Tambling and the ever reliable Richo stood up and carried us over the line.
We play too many poor sides to have successfully tanked this year. West Coast, Freo, Melbourne and Essendon can all tank and their coach is safe. Terry would have got the stuff.
Bowden is of no use to us anymore, JON looked ok and I'd like to see him played for the rest of the year. That game would have done wonders for his confidence.
-
For me personally a bittersweet win. Don't take this the wrong way but I.............
Loved the fact that we won and obviously wanted to lose to tank for the draft picks.
Yet despite all that I thought Lids was fantastic today and so was Richo and Tambling'sast quarter was his best quarter of footy since his 4 goal haul against the Eagles. Positives and negatives from tonight so let's roll with the punches and move on.
-
They're a young team, they'll have up and down performances.
Today we saw the best and worst of them, but the best was awesome to watch.
The good thing is we didn't get overrun when they got within 8 points like in previous games this year.
Those bitter with the performance, did you think Melbourne wouldn't show some heart as well?
Not happy and not unhappy either.
-
that was shyte.
-
that was shyte.
Agree brackets.
Thank you Richo.
-
Well...now its pointless to tank, can we all get behind the team we love and support and wish they improve rather than try to manipulate a dodgy system? :pray
-
Yahoo is all I can say.
-
dont enjoy chinese water torture, unfortunately that is what is dished up with us.
oh did enjoy the 2nd quarter, but other than that is was very messy.
-
That Nefatiti or whatever his name is would look poo in a Richmond jumper anyway.
Rich is cuter :thumbsup

even if given the chance we probably wouldnt pick any of these guys.
we would prob go for 55kilo dud.
you know whats scary?? LIFE WITHOUT RICHO.
AND TO ALL U stuff.KHEADS THAT BAG HIM, GO GET FCU.KED..........
-
Only listened to it on the radio but from the number of basic errors it sounded like Melbourne are as bad as anyone in recent memory.
Still a win can't hurt and its positive to hear Cotchin involved in everything again.
-
As long as they persist with the kids that is the main thing.
Cothchin will be a gun
Lids played his best game tonight, when i was critical the other week it was because he wasnt using his asset in his pace. When he gets the ball, players should be blocking and trying to create a path straight up the middle for him. He is so exciting when he runs and carry's. He is also a great kick running at full speed.
Jack showed good signs again tonight.
Sure the second half was terrible to watch tonight but atleast we won after really being challenged again. That alone will be good for the young kids and build on their belief.
-
Yahoo is all I can say.
Ditto! geez that was hard!
-
I would say its the worst game of i have been to in a long long time.
Players missing easy set shots, and skills by both teams was extremely poor.
I though a telling point in the game was Daniel Jacksons last 5 mins in the 1st quarter where he actually went long into Forward 50 twice, resulting to marks to players that were isolated.
On a positive, life without Matty Richardson is going to be scary.
Thoughts Lids best game for ages, his run and carry and more importantly being direct through the corridor instead of chipping sideways and short was great to watch.
Cotchin is going to be a gun.
Dont know what to make of Joel Bowden, He was supposed to be "" reinvented as a forward and he was playing down back ::)

yes but they cant produce against the quality sides mate.
we will get smashed by Port and we will run them into a mini revival, make no mistake about that.
yes a win but at what cost. a measily 12th finish. woopty doo doo
go on im waiting for the line "some people will never be happy"
well yes i will be happy when we beat teams that r good, or games we r not expected to win like next week over there or against the blues in 2 weeks. yes thats what im talking about..
i was very delighted in lids, richo and brown tonight. gee they r good them 3.
Now if you peoples love child TW drops Reiwvoldt ill dump manure on his face.
Keep the kids FF sake. all of them, even JON. hyde is for the dingley tip. Polo NEEDS to come back, soon!!
tambling what did he do exactly except get a few kicks in the last qtr. he missed the target so many times and i think he is a extremely lazy and at this stage very immature footballer who doesn't think.
he should watch lids and foley and see how they create space and run all day long.
i dont think he does enough..he is a flashy player. few good kicks this that. really its rubbish cheap kicks not your deledio champion stuff
another worrying sign is WHY THE HELL CANT WE DO COAST TO COAST..
every other team seems to do it easily but not us.
thank god for newy and his torps.
overall a win is exactly that a win, so well done boys
If we can beat Port and Blues then ill be happy but i know we wont beat port.
we dont have the ticker to beat port over there..

I am by no means saying that it was an acceptable performance Daniel, far from it. I was sitting with Jackstar and we couldnt believe some of the things we were doing and also the skill errors.
As long as they dont bring the likes of Tiv and Petts etc back into the team.
Thought that we were very reactive tonight also, why when we are still 4 goals up does Richo get sent down back as a spare man. Our fwd line was so out of wack and it gave them heaps of drive.

that move was rubbish.
the same last week against adelaide when we scored the last 2 goals and were on some sort of goal spree.
what happens??
richo as a spare man in defence. what the f... is up with that it does my head in..

I thought Tambling did some great running in the last, he was running when others seemed to standing on the spot, the work out of defence at times was good. good signs in this regard as far as im concerned.

big deal Ramps. richo won us that game no one else. with all due respect to lids browny and tuck.
tambling needs to play 4 quarters not half in one game and 2 in the others.
i have yet to see him play a full 4 quarter game in his career. he has played over 66 games now his time is now not next year or next week. now!!
If he doesn't start regulary producing good footy by now he will never produce. flash in the pan type of player.
one day good next week average
-
36 scoring shots to 24 showed that we were far more dominant than what people are saying here. Sure, there were some dreadful skill errors and turnovers but if we had our kicking boots on we could have won by 60. I thought Matty White had a great game as well as the others mentioned tonight especially early on. Jack Riewoldt's speccie was also a ripper. We did take the foot off after half time but credit to the boys to hang on in the last. :thumbsup

hyde is for the dingley tip.
My brother spent $800k on some Lego block looking house in Dingley and got quite offended when I ask why he couldn't have bought in a less smelly suburb. :lol
-
Julz has it in for Dingley for some reason.
Last time I was there it wasn't smelly.
You're bringing down property prices in one fell swoop, Julz lol.

I'm no expert.
But I think losing Thursfield and Jake King from the back six in one week, in addition to not having Raines or KJ available would have meant that wallet would have liked a little bit of experience in the last line of defense last night.
Joel provided that on occassions last night

Hey, I spent all my Teenage years living in Dingley and is was far from smelly. I wont even go into some things that happened at Dingley tip. It was the 70's :shh
Anyway on subject. I am glad the The TANK is no longer a topic we have to worry about. I honestly dont think any footabller would be interested in playing in or for a team that wasnt playing to win. Sure I would have liked more talent at Richmond but its over now so we can move on.
Good to see some of the Kids perform yesterday, four quaters would be nice but maybe next year.

I thought it was JON's best game. Played with confidence (wonderful thing confidence ;)) Dont think he missed a target and thought his decision making was good as well. :clapping :clapping
Needs to keep it up now :thumbsup

Dingley...Hmmm I once met a Mr Dingle and he lived in Dingley. No Joke. There was a good live band venue there back in the late 80's called the Dingley International Hotel. I Loved the "International" bit. Very try hard.. lol I wonder if it still stands...

The Eagles are tanking big time according to Hutchy.
Tigers' win eliminates pre-draft pick
Jon Ralph | June 17, 2008
FOR only the second time in a decade no club will earn a pre-draft priority pick after Richmond's win took it over the threshold of 16 premiership points.
The AFL will be hoping it might take the sting out of this year's tanking debate, with clubs now needing two consecutive seasons of four wins or fewer to qualify.
The Tigers have 18 points (including a draw) after their victory over Melbourne on Sunday.
The Demons, West Coast, Fremantle and Essendon could still qualify for a priority pick, but it would be awarded after the first round of the national draft. A total of 17 pre-draft priority picks have been awarded in the past decade.
The league is not out of the woods yet. West Coast's tactics against Essendon on Friday fuelled speculation the Eagles were hoping to maximise their draft order.
Daniel Kerr, Michael Braun and Chad Fletcher were rested with borderline injuries, midfielder Andrew Embley played stuff and star ruckman Dean Cox started the last quarter on the bench.
Three of the top contenders for the national draft - Nick Nautanui, Daniel Rich and Chris Yarran - are West Australians.

OMFG did l make the right choice
after reading here about the game ;D l saved myself some torture, cause l aint seen any footage or even listen to the game at anytime & l'm just back this morning & read no newspapers
No score on the MCG scoreboard either so that was a bonus
Seems it was a ugly game with ugly skills& mistakes ;D maybe l should stay away find something else to do & comeback in a few years time see if things are any better :cheers
-
i actually like tambo on the wing being the first reciever out of the backline.
