I've just got my tickets to see Stevie Wonder.
So looking forward to this concert as he's been my favourite artist for soooo long.
I'm hoping I won't be disappointed, but I can't see that happening.
Who are your heroes?
-
Musically
Neil Young
Robert Johnson
Lightnin Hopkins
Van the Man
Politically/Historically
FDR/Truman (the former led the US out of their biggest domestic trouble and the latter who with the atom bomb could have done whatever he wanted after WWII but chose peace)
Literature
Steinbeck - the most vividly expressive conveyor of earth's natural beauty and the distastefulness of the human experience in it.
Science
Einstein - the most brilliant mind ever
Feynman - a brilliant scientist and even better communicator
-
I'd go for Jake's science choices as well.
Late Fred Hollows in terms of medicine and helping those in need.
Trent Cotchin - future Tiger star ;D
-
My Dad.
Stevie Wonder.
Helen Thomas

Child hood hero was Michael Roach and Jimmy Jess.
People today pass in and out of our lives all the time but very few leave a legacy and an imprint like parents. I'm thankful to them for all they have done for me.

Neither can he. :P
Once I look up who invented Cadbury chocolate and Coca-Cola I'll be able to put names to my heroes.

My Mum who passed away last week at the age of 82 was my hero. Had to bring up six kids on her own when my Dad passed away when I was 4 in 1970. Wasn't going to go public with my loss but this thread was the perfect tribute to her. RIP Mum. Praying for you :pray

Sorry about you loss tiga. My thoughts are with you and the whole tiga clan.
Stay strong and enjoy the memories of your hero

Similar to tiga in so many ways...
Ma Powell was my absolute hero - she passed away back in 2005 at age 80. Again like tiga she had to raise us on her own after my Dad passed away in 1974 when I was 7 and my bro was 9. By god did she work hard to ensure we had all the things she didn't have growing up. An incredibly lady was my Mum :clapping And she's still my hero today.

I'm feeling a lot of love here tonight :'(

Thanks to everyone for you kind words. They really mean a lot to me. :) Its been a tough week but I'm slowly climbing the hill. Whilst my Mum was a dyed in the wool "Southerner", I'm certain She got the boys over the line on the Weekend because She really disliked the Bombers with a passion!! Now all I have to do is go through the dreaded Will process where I know some family members are going to cause problems. I wish I could walk away from it all but unfortunately I am the executor but once thats all done and dusted I will then begin to try and get my life back to some normality.
As Ox and WP who have recently lost a parent would know, its those little quiet moments when sadness creeps in, so I am trying to keep myself busy, like posting here to take the edge off the sadness of her not being around anymore. I think its about learning to cope, not trying to forget.
Thanks again everyone! :thumbsup :thumbsup

Professor Graeme Clark for 30 years of restoring people's hearing via his cochlear implant.

Unlike most my parents are not anywhere close to being a hero,(both have gone now). But as a kid it was Jimmy Jess and Bill Barrot.
Today it is my son as he's one of the most level headed people I know. And a bloke from the biker build off Billy Lane, he never loses his temper. I would love to be like him, but I'm not.
