I heard that our coaching staff will be expanding for next season with a new assistant and also a new development coach to assist Craig McCrae(hopefully he stays)
Who do people think we should be targeting as potential coaches?
My thoughts for assistants are: Nathan Buckley, Leigh Colbert (Flea may be able to get him over the line), Peter Sumich, John Longmire
Not sure on the development side of things but believe Paul Hudson, Garry Hocking and also Mark Neeld are doing well in the TAC with the juniors.
Thoughts?

hocking no chance , but would be gr8 ;D

If I was in charge of the RFC, i would get all the cash I could find and offer NATHAN BUCKLEY the position of Senior Coach.
He will be the next coach of the decade, He is an inspiring person . We need leaders at this football club, not spin doctors.

Well this thread is going along nicely.
Should we consider anyone who may be retiring from the game this season?
-
Paul Hudson, been saying it for awhile now his got what it takes & knows how to coach youngsters & had success with Gippsland Power

Maybe not those retiring this season but I'd certainly look at those who've retired last year or the year before.
Great players don't necessarily make good coaches.
-
Nathan Buckley, fantastic leader.
-
Nathan Buckley, fantastic leader.
Yeah but that doesn't mean he is going to make a great coach.
Look at the coaches in the AFL with the exception of Leigh Matthews who was a great player and a true champion (a word used too loosely these days IMHO) and perhaps Roos the current crop aren't "greats" of the game, most were good players but not great and to take it further some weren't even good players, they were just average
I think he should do an apprenticeship...
If he was interested I'd certainly offer him assistants role.....
But he hates Richmond so I reckon there is "buckleys" chance he'd wind up at the Tigers
-
Few rumours here and their about Bucks having some sort of involvement with RFC next year..
But who believes rumours
-
Nathan Buckley, fantastic leader.
Yes, but is he intense enuff ¿ :rollin
I'm sure he's a martian.
-
Colbert is going to join the Eagles next year apparently. Worked part-time there last year. Buckley has his media contract (not sure if there is a out clause to coach).
I think it will be Wayne Campbell as the new assistant coach as it makes sense to me lol. Didn't Cambo consider an assistant role when he retired (after he went travelling) but Terry told Cambo to go to another club first to experience a different culture. He's played under Plough in the Wallace's first year so he would know how Terry coaches and taking another person from the Bulldogs wouldn't be anything new lol.
Hudson has huge wraps as a development coach. Would he do a Wallace and want to come back to Punt Rd after a forgettable period as a player with us.

Not too sure about that WP. Has he ever admitted it?
I know he seems biased against Richmond on TV but perhaps he is just telling the truth.
You only have to listen to bucks as he chats about football. This is a guy who has a very smart football brain and that is exactly what we need at our club.
Colbert....you gotta be joking whoever suggested that... big negative for me.
Only mckenna compares to Bucks IMO as suitable candidates for our club going forward

Perhaps Bucks wants to coach Cotchin

What are peoples thoughts on someone from Coburg being appointed as a Development coach?
The reserves coach at Coburg Adam Potter has had a great record with the young kids over the last couple of years. He has been able to bring kids from different playing backgrounds together and form an extremely competitve unit.
I would assume he would have a good knowledge of the way Richmond would want to educate the young kids and could prove to be a nice fit.
What do people think?
-
Dont know much about Potter, but what I have heard is that his rapport with young kids is pretty good.
Must know something as it looks like he will coach back to back reserve flags. :thumbsup

He would probably tick 9 out of ten boxes.
If he isnt a mate of wallets, he wont get the gig.
Might be in his best interest to wait 12 months ;)

the Bucks rumour is gaining momentum.

bux will not coach next year
forget him

Bucks said a few weeks ago he's contracted to the media next year.
Alan Richardson from the Pies anyone?
Former Coburg coach who didn't too badly before he was replaced by Flood :P.

Isn't he the gun developer down at the Pies? He'd go well along with McRae.

Not sure about the gun bit given the way the pies are going at the minute lol but yep he's their development coach.

Would anyone here consider Robert Harvey in an assistant (midfield) coaching role at Richmond?
-

Player development next to McRae. :thumbsup
But I doubt that would happen. Sounds like he'll be with the Saints for life after the press conference yesterday. Might be doing the pre-season next yeah just for poos and giggles. ;D

Nope ;D
-
Any interest in Nigel Lappin joining Craig McRae at Punt Rd in a coaching capacity?
-
Any further whispers on who'll be the new assistant coaches?
Pagan wants to put his coaching hat back on

Marcus Ashcroft and Paul Hudson have been given the stuff by Brisbane.
Craig Lambert is still contracted with the Lions.
Hudson aside, the rest of the club's assistant coaches, Craig Lambert, Justin Leppitsch and Adrian Fletcher, as well as ruck coach Clark Keating and development coach Chris Johnson, are former teammates and friends.
Hudson had been a popular member of the department during his two years at the club, but he has no previous history with Voss and, because he was the only assistant out of contract, was always likely to be the man to make room for a Voss appointee.

Ashcroft would be most unlikely to leave Qld. He is a local identity, heavily involved in local footy up here and doesn't show any inclination to want to move up in coaching.
Hudson is very interesting however. He is from Victoria, has brief history with our club (albeit unproductive like TW) and by all reports was very good at the coaching caper in the bush. I know Monk rates him very highly (not that all on here will see that as a positive ;) ). He could be a dark horse for a spot on next year's coaching panel.

Hudson had a good record at Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup IIRC so the second development coaching job may be his go. Mike tonight on 3aw said he will see Victoria as home now and shouldn't have a problem getting a job.

A few ex-Tigers in the coaching news.
Chris Bond at Freo is trying to get Leon Cameron to leave his assistant coaching job at the Dogs and head west.

Scotty Burns may retire and seek an assistant coaching role...
It is understood Burns has been approached by several clubs to consider a potential assistant coaching role, with candidates including Port Adelaide and Carlton.
Burns, 33, told the Sunday Herald Sun, which listed Geelong as a front-runner for his services should he retire, he would discuss his future with Malthouse in coming days before deciding on whether to continue his 265-game career.

Essendon has also signed former Magpie and Coburg coach Alan Richardson as an assistant coach.

Richardson would've been a handy development coach alongside McRae but c'est la vie. I guess any new assistant roles can't happen until we eventually ::) appoint our new director of football.
-
Sorry if it has been said before but would anyone go for Mick McGuane as an assistant- has a bloody good coaching record and seems to know his stuff??

Micky was a part-time assistant coach at Punt Rd under Plough before leaving for a full-time gig under Grant Thomas in his last year at the Saints. Don't think he'll leave his media morning gig on Sport 927 now and seems happier coaching suburban footy. He just coached Keilor to a premiership upsetting Greenvale in the Essendon District FL Grand Final.

COLLINGWOOD captain Scott Burns is expected to announce his retirement as early as tomorrow, with a raft of AFL clubs lining up to secure his services as an assistant coach.

Would be worth considering IMHO. Speaks very well, got the most out of his abilities on the field, played many years under one of the best coaches and doesn't put up with any crap.
-
Ch 7 said Burns will announce his retirement at 9am tomorrow and that he'll take up an assistant coaching job at an opposition club with Geelong or Carlton favoured to get him.

Nigel Lappin has knocked back Voss' request to play on and he'll stick to retiring. Another possible assistant coach choice for us.
