Title: 2008 AFL Finals
Post by: Moi on August 31, 2008, 07:25:55 PM
Collingwood and North to go out next week - heaven  :pray
And then the Swans and Crows get booted the following week
Leaving the top four Victorian clubs
Great to see Victorian teams in the top four possies.
I'm hoping the Cats go back to back - they deserve it

saints or cats for mine.

both teams have smashed us in previous years but harvey is a deadset legend and he deserves a flag. go sainters!!

hawks and pies are 2 teams i would seriously :chuck if either won the big one

You've convinced me Daniel.
If ever anyone deserves a premiership is Robert Harvey
But if they don't get it, go Cats!
They have the least obnoxious supporters lol

Saints, you have to be kidding.

Hawks 'may' give Geelong a run on the day but I doubt it.

Best we save our finals campaign for when the cats start to fall off and then it will be open.

I don't really give a rats behind about finals as long as the skunks lose, good.  :thumbsup

Read carefully i didn't say i thought saints would win it i said i want them to win it.

Only hawks have a realistic chance of winning it.

There is not one person in the AFL who deserves a flag than Harvey.

In saying that knowing that Spud would be so happy actually makes me want to :chuck

The AFL tried their best to give the Pies an 8-day break to the Saints 6 but they didn't count on St Kilda winning by over 100 points and now the poor Maggots have to travel to Footy Park  :lol. Sweet justice for the most overrated club in the land.

It says a lot about how many mediocre sides there are this year when a side like the Saints can make the top 4 with only 13 wins. Even we were only a game and half out of a top 4 spot and we missed out on the finals altogether.

Hopefully the Sknks have run out of tricks.

Think the Prelims will be 2 rippers.

Cats v Saints
Hawks v Dogs

Looks like the granny will be Cats v Dorks and I will be tipping the cats by 60, a hard fought 60 but 60 nontheless  ;D

Had too much trouble with the Sainters supporters over many years, htf they can be so cocky and belittle our club sooooo much when they have only 1 flag, fugem.

Don't mind Harvs but tough titties I say ............  :gotigers in 09

Geez the Saints are the most ordinary 4th place team in history.

Two weeks ago they were in danger of missing the 8.

Yep I think the Granny too will be between the Pussies and Hawks although I would laugh if the Hawks crashed out early. Will Clarkson's cluster stand up under finals pressure?!

As for the Prelims you can't have the same match-ups as the first week of the finals as they crossover. If Geelong and Hawthorn win this week and the top 4 remains the same for the Prelims then you'd get:

Cats v Dogs
Hawks v Saints

Basically the loser of the Hawks v Dogs game this week won't make the Granny because they would need to beat the Cats in the Prelim (assuming the Cats win this week as expected).

A delightfully insipid display from the Doggies...

After tonight that's 2 wins in their last 8 games....

No concerns with their from there  ::)

 :rollin :rollin

Though, Dawks fans are going to be pains in the clacker this week :'(  ;D

Make that 2 weeks as the Hawks have the week off to the Prelim.

The doggies will go out in straight set. Sure Buddy kicked 8 but that was because the dogs got absolutely smashed in the midfield and at and around the stoppages. The Hawk mids had so much ball in plenty of space. Some people were hoping we didn't make the finals so not to embarrass ourselves but sheesh we couldn't do any worse than the dogs tonight who have limped into September over the past 2 months.

The umpring in this Crows/Pies game is the worst ive seen all year.

come on crows fcukin lift would ya beat these scumbags

Neil Craig must surely be on thin ice after losing to the Pies at footy park. Sure he got the Crows into the finals again but they keep bombing out every year. Just 2 wins from 7 finals. They're record against the eventual top 8 sides this year was almost as bad as ours. Beat North early on and then the Swans and Dogs both out of form towards the end of the year.

The Pies will probably make the prelim against the Hawks now as they should play St Kilda next week who aren't much chop either.

And they want two teams out of Sydney

I can understand Tasmania's frustration  :banghead

The lowest crowd to a final since 1924 they said  :o. Mind you watching the Swans play every week would turn you off  :sleep. As for North, looks like that Shinboner spirit had the night off again lol. Both clubs along with the Saints are sides we need to bypass next year if we want to make the finals.

The Catters are marching along to another easy win. 8 goals up in the wet which should be more like 15 given they've had 24 scoring shots to just 6. A class and even two above everyone else.

Another pathetic crowd tonight to a final. Just 42k on a perfect night for footy. At least when we finally make it we'll fill the place.

An end of an era for the Swannies. Everitt is finished, Kennelly will head off back home probably and most of their older premiership players are too old and slow to shut down the good sides any more. Just shows how shocking we were when we got smashed by them up at the SCG  :scream. Hopefully another preseason will see our cubs stronger in the bodies to match and beat 'em both inside and out in space. They're one of the sides we'll need to bypass next year if we are to make the finals.

As for the interchange rule - yeah it was there as Callan went outside the line but the proverbial would have hit the fan if the Dogs had lost. That free totally changed the momentum of the game for the next 10 minutes in the Swannies favour.

On the Sainters  :lol. Hope the knock off the Hawkers again next week  :pray.

Malthouse had a shocker in the box. Left Brown on Riewoldt until the game was over at 3/4 time even though Brown was getting Hack Dawsoned.

And once again Daisy "I'm an overrated receiver and downhill skier" Thomas goes missing in a Pies' loss :yep.

LOL

Well that's something Thomas isn't - a real hard footballer  ;). At least we've seen Lids run back into oncoming traffic and take the hit.

I just want to see one game where Thomas stops skirting the packs waiting for a teammate to make him look good and stands up instead when the Pies are struggling. For someone who is potrayed as a gun in the media he goes missing big time every single time. Everyone bags Blingers yet even he gets more of the ball and tackles more than Thomas.

blingers is not much better IMO. Both are not worth top 10 picks, perhaps the 20 mark for both of them.

Thomas at least kicks goals from time to time(not many id say), whereas blingers hasn't really proved anything in his career to date.

True both haven't proved anything of note as yet but that's my point. Blingers gets bagged as a dud whereas Thomas is the media darling and has his pic everywhere like he's some kind of superstar :chuck.

Bateman has rolled his ankle at training and Croad didn't show thanks to his injured foot. Geez I'd laugh if the Hawks get done this week after coming out again today boasting about how they'll win 2 flags within 5 years. I'd be over the moon with one flag given how hard they are to win rather than testing footy karma.

lol - they were their own worst enemy at times the doggies, one stage they actually kicked it to the pack of seagulls.
Maybe they thought they were there for support or got confused with their alignment  :rollin
At least their fans had something to cheer about for a while, that's all you can ask for !

Just not good enough as a club the Dogs as they do not take their opportunies and they lack the killer instinct and the polish when the game needs to be taken by the scruff of the neck. Geelong were not that impressive but they have a hell of a lot in the tank based on what we saw tonight so look out next week. Prelim finals traditionally can be harder to win for sides who have dominated years as the Cats have this year and look at Geelong in the corresponding game last year or Essendon in 1999.

As for the Dogs only 5 prelims in 47 years since they last made a GF in 1961.
1985-10 point loss to Hawks
1992-64 points loss to Cats
1997-2 point loss to Crows
1998-68 point loss to Crows
2008-29 point loss to Cats.
Pretty much sums them up as a footy club lamentably for them.

Apart from the 97 one they were underdogs in the other 4 PFs too.

Geelong had their worst game for a long time making uncharacteristic mistakes for them but the Doggies had their chances in the second half in front of goal and choked. 6 straight points, 2 OOTF and Eagleton not making the distance from 35m. Bad kicking is bad footy and once again an AFL side pays big time for poor goalkicking.

The Saints are terrible.

They won't win a flag with the side they have.

They need to make a few tough decisions, get some draft picks and in 3-4 years time launch another assault with Riewoldt 28-29 years old.
Title: Re: 2008 AFL Finals
Post by: mightytiges on September 20, 2008, 09:53:17 PM
St Kilda were lucky to be in the top 4 in the first place. The only one who can hold his head up tonight is Hudghton for keeping Buddy quiet. You're right wayne about some hard decisions need to be made at Moorabbin Seaford. Dal Santo probably first on the trade table. Fiora has played he's last game. What was Lyon thinking bringing him in as a late change in a Prelim  :help. Every year one side in the top 4 drops out of the Eight the following year and it looks like it'll be the Saints. They've topped up with King, Sneider and Dempster and it hasn't worked.

Goddard will be facing a long holiday for decking Mitchell.

Dal Santo probably first on the trade table.

I agree, get a first rounder for him and hope to do a Hawthorn 2004 draft.

Inject some youth into a core of 4-5 really good players and hope in 3-4 years time they're playing in a Grand Final like the Hawks.

I agree but do the Saints have the courage to do it. History of their club would say no. They've held onto their 2004 core and it's been a failure. Look at Kosi  - injury free he could've been anything but him and the Saints has never worked out well together.

I guess on the bright side they'll be one less side we'll have to worry about in the next few years.
