Unless some player-club relations are patched up, this year's PSD could offer some decent players for those with early picks or big pockets. O'Keefe and Lovett for starters. Cousins of course. Apparently the Blues are going to offer O'Keefe $2m over 4 years. What salary cap :whistle.
O'Keefe is a year too late for us when we had first pick. With pick 8 we'll probably pass unless we go for another youngster who missed the draft like we did with Whitey and Gourdis.
-
I see that the Sainters have signed Gardiner again - that will be a reunion with Cousins the disco wont forget.
I'd like to see Richmond continue to use the PSD for the best young hopeful they believe was not drafted (after the PSD training session's) or for project players that may require a continuous AFL environment where the rookie list is not suitable due to relocation costs from interstate.
-
MT i am pretty sure Lovett had a year to go on his contract, that was part of the sticking point.
-
Richmond would need to move 3 more players off the senior list to get a pick in the PSD this year.
I doubt we'll participate. I think only the compulsory 2 more will go.
-
It would have been a long time since we didn't participate in the PSD if we don't. I'd like us to keep it open just in case we like a kid we test after draft day (as we usually do with those who miss out on being drafted) and who w think may not last past 7 clubs to our first rookie pick.

My bad. You're right TFL.

Out- Petts, JON & Casserly
In- ROK
27 is not old and by Wallets prediction 2011 is our year and by that time ROK will be 29/30.
We dont have many players on huge salaries so why the stuff not would you not make this happen.
-
Don't rate Lovett.

On what parallel dimension would ROK slip through til pick 8?
-
What about Jeff White? Would anyone consider him?
-
No, would be another Kinglsey pickup. Give games to Graham or Putt instead.
-
Would be happy to get a highly rated kid that falls thou - White / Gourdis.
A tall would be ideal.

Put a figure on hios head like those scum bags blues do.
if we get him we get him. If we dont then the blues will have to cough up.
i think we should give it a big shot

at least he can play not like that idiot Mcmahon. 350k for doing SFA
ROK is a gem. Age has nothing to do with it, he is a beauty.

What about Jeff White? Would anyone consider him?
Pass on White. Just a temporary option who is passed it. Rather go with Gus, Patto or even Cartledge.
-
Ryan O'Keefe has struck a 4-year deal to stay with the Swans. So the PSD is looking very slim pickings again and no different to the past few years.

Draft looms as non-event after O'Keefe stays put
Jon Ralph | October 21, 2008
DECEMBER'S pre-season draft looms as a monumental anti-climax after Sydney forward Ryan O'Keefe yesterday agreed to a new four-year deal.
O'Keefe was the last high-profile out-of-contract player on the market, but was not prepared to run the gauntlet of the December 16 draft.
Any player uncontracted by October 31 can enter the national draft as well as the pre-season draft, which would maximise their chances of being selected.
Clubs could then take a recycled player with their last pick in the November 29 national draft, rather than waiting two weeks for the pre-season draft. Previously many uncontracted players only left their existing clubs in time for the pre-season draft.
Last year's pre-season draft had only eight picks - six kids and former Crows Scott Welsh and Darren Pfeiffer.
This year it may be even smaller, with clubs scouting for players from opposition clubs reporting that the cupboard is bare.
Melbourne (selection one) said yesterday it was more likely to choose an up-and-coming youngster than a recycled player.
Fremantle (pick three) is stripping back its list and will go with youth, and Essendon (pick four) and Carlton (pick five) have no grand aspirations.
Both Victorian clubs would be in the market for an experienced player but said yesterday none were available.

1. Melbourne
2. Port Adelaide

4. Carl - Chris Johnson
5. Bris - Nick Davis?

ahhh...almost forgot about carr, johnson and davis. looks like we will get a pretty good chance of getting a good young kid then.
by the way, can a club who dun have a psd pick delist another player b4 the draft to free up one more spot?? i hope not
-
Yes, there is another list lodgement prior to the PSD
-
Clubs hardly delist a player on the 3rd lodgement these days though so you'd presume those six clubs are it and we have the 3rd "live" PSD pick.
-
The Blues have confirmed they are selecting Chris Johnson in the PSD

From today's Australian
Only six clubs are currently able to participate in the 2008 pre-season draft. Two of them, Port Adelaide and Carlton, have made commitments to players in the system, Josh Carr and Chris Johnson, respectively. Brisbane is considering former Collingwood and Sydney flanker Nick Davis. The other three, Richmond, Essendon and Melbourne, are expected to recruit from the pool of teenagers who were overlooked on Saturday.
Of the six who will be participating, Carlton and Port Adelaide are spoken for, Brisbane declared last Friday night that it is no longer interested in Cousins and Essendon and Richmond have never been tempted to pick up the fallen champion, even at the penny-dreadful price of a pre-season draft pick.

There's been no further list changes by any club regarding the 3rd and final list lodgement today so the PSD picks are confirmed as:
1. Melbourne
2. Port Adelaide
3. Essendon
4. Carlton
5. Brisbane
6. Richmond

Essendon are considering taking a mature player in the PSD

ESSENDON looks set to dramatically resurrect the career of former Adelaide midfielder Hayden Skipworth in next week's pre-season draft.
It's understood BRISBANE is looking more at elevating rookie Pearce Hanley or giving delisted tall Joel Tippett a second chance.

MELBOURNE will consider re-drafting Chris Johnson with the first pick in the pre-season draft if he's the best available player, despite the disgruntled half-back's wish to join Carlton.

Looks like we could be getting the best kid in the PSD after all, everyone else is committing to older guys
Although it could also highlight just how shallow the draft pool was this year, despite people crowing about how strong it was
-
I wonder how mature a player the Bummers are looking at
http://www.livenews.com.au/Articles/2008/12/10/Yze_a_shock_draft_nomination
Melbourne veteran Adem Yze is a surprise nomination for the AFL pre-season draft.
Yze was among four delisted players who lodged their nominations before the 2pm (AEDT) deadline on Tuesday.
As expected, former Fremantle onballer Josh Carr and Melbourne's Chris Johnson lodged their paperwork.
David Gourdis, who did not play a game for Richmond, also has nominated.
