Is this a 12/10 game anyone know
-
Is this a 12/10 game anyone know
Unless there has been a major rule change then 12/10 doesn't apply as Werribee is not a stand alone club - they have an alignment if only a partial one

I hope Gourdis stands up in the absence of Riewoldt. A firing Gourdis would be a great asset to our team. Post must still have a fair way to go considering he's named on the bench. I also would like to see Thomson continue his good form so he can finally get a AFL gig.
Hughes, Polak and Putt must be doubtful for next year...

Hughes, Polak and Putt must be doubtful for next year...
I can't see Putt being doubtful. It's only his 2nd year.
He is 202cm and is bulking up. Progressed as a skinny key forward last year until injured and is now playing in the ruck.
I think he'll be considered important beyond this year.
-
If Cleve got dropped to the reserves.... thats one boy who is going to stuggle to stay on the list next year.

If Cleve got dropped to the reserves.... thats one boy who is going to stuggle to stay on the list next year.
Given Clever is one of 4 on the extended seniors bench named also in the ressies side then it's most likely he has been dropped. To think he started at FF for Richmond against Freo in the NAB Cup before getting injured and now after being back for somewhile he's struggling to get even a VFL game :-\.

Any news on this?
:cheers

Coburg ressies won 110 to 72. Only saw the last quarter and Werribee dominated. Cleve got a late goal.

-
Shame we've let them back into it
Very promising start though
-
Coburg dominating the centre clearaces. Playing attacking footy and getting the ball in quickly. Kicked the first 6 goals but like last night disposal inside 50 became sloppy (Cogs and Jordie a turnover each) and Werribee on the counterpunch pinched 3 goals (could have been 4) against the run of play in time-on.
Best (in no order): Post, Browne, Thomson, Cogs, Hislop, Edwards, Connors, Rance
-
JON receives the turnover and finds Gourdis (free). Goal :gotigers
46 - 23

Sounds like Cog's will be back next week.
-
Thomilf is gunning for the same spot as Cogs, remember.
-
Thomilf is gunning for the same spot as Cogs, remember.
I reckon we should try Tuck forward more often and give Cogs & Thomson the midfield
Tuck is usually a great kick for goal, pretty tall and good overhead
-
Coburg getting numbers to every contest, stronger bodies :o, running in numbers and applying good pressure.
Bests (in no particular order):
Vickery and Browne dominating the ruck
Coburg dominating the centre clearances through Cogs, Thomson, Horne
Edwards and Jordie have provided plenty of attacking speed and run.
Connors would have had a lot of it too.
Commentators said Post has been inpressive.
Hislop has been throwing his body around in the forward line.
Silvester has been on top of Werribee's FF Marty Pask.
-
Schulz gets his 5th
89 - 46
-
Out of the centre again. Rance busts a tackle and gets it to Horne who misses.
Vickery marks and dishes off to Rance who hits Sarge. misses as well.
91 - 46
-
Good running by Post. Gets it to Silvester who got forward of the ball and he hits Sarge on the lead. Goal :gotigers
97 - 52
-
King gets a massive 50m penalty (HB to 40m out). Goal :gotigers
103 - 58
-
Jordie kick-in long to Post and it ends up with Sarge on the boundary. Sarge kicks it in board and finds Cogs. Miss
104 - 59
-
Sarge off the ground and gone up the race. It could be a hammy according to the commentators?
-
edwards to Carrick to Horne back to Carrick to Silvester and Edwards kept running on and marked 45m out. Siren. Goal :gotigers
3/4 time
Coburg 6.4 13.5 17.8-110
Werribee 3.3 6.10 9.11-65
Goals: Schulz 6, Edwards 2, Post, Hislop, Thomson, Connors, Gourdis, McMahon, Carnell, Liddle, King
-
Bests that qtr: Sarge with another 3 goals (could have had 5), Edwards has been everywhere with his run off hb, Post likewise got a heap of it (commentators said his disposal is pinpoint - low and flat), Vickery impressive, Silvester
Rawlings praised Hislop and Clarke's 3 tackles each. Wants a big impact from Gourdis. Vickery up forward. Dan good, Jordie ran as hard as anyone. Wants us to not get lazy which has given werribee goals.
-
Sarge back on so he must be okay.
-
Liddle breaks a tackle and runs through and hits Sarge on the lead. Miss
111 - 72
-
Great pack busting mark by Post on HB. Liddle finds Sarge again in the pocket 45m out. Goal :gotigers
7 to Sarge.
117 - 73
-
A comedy of errors (JON) but Thomson ends up with it and has a ping from 55m. Miss
Thomson again over to Jordie running past and finds Sarge falling over but still takes the mark. 40m out. His 8th. Goal :gotigers
124 - 74
-
wheres werribee on vfl ladder?
-
Around 10-11th jb.
Connors been good.
Good pressure and bump by Caruso. JOn has a shot and hits the post. Miss.
Jordie kicks a long goal but a free is paid to Werribee for a shepherd on the line.
125 - 74
-
Good one-two b/w Vickery and Carnell. Post marks 25m out. Quieter last qtr. Miss.

Looking forward to some match reports from some who were there
I hope we make a few changes to the Richmond side, regardless of the win

Hard to give best players exactly when you're only listening on the radio and the commentators haven't summed up yet :P
Bests: Schulz, Thomson, Edwards, Connors, Jordie, Silvester, Cogs, Vickery, Browne, King. Probably only Gourdis was disappointing as far as RFC blokes.

I just got back from Coburg. Just a minor quibble with the umpiring. Just before 1/4 time when they got 3 quick goals back:the ball was in front of our goals, and Gourdis copped the most blatant 2-handed shove out you could ever see, but the umpires apparently didn't. Then Werribee rushed it away for a goal. At the centre bounce they then received a tiggy touchwood free, and 50m penalty, but missed the shot. As I made my way to the qtr time huddle the umpire sprinted past me to the changerooms, and I said to him, "are you going to check on your guide dog?"
I spoke to Gus Graham at the 1/4 time huddle, and he said he'd be right to play next week :clapping
Vickery and Browne's tap work were sensational as usual. But I think Vickery needs to be able impose himself on the game more when resting forward before he can be seriously considered for Richmond. He might get a game at some stage this year.
Today was an absolutely defining game for Jayden Post. Everybody around me said the same thing. The best game he's played for Coburg at either level so far. His pack marking both in defence, and when he drifted forward, and his run and carry and delivery were sensational. When he fills out a bit, he and Rance will be the solid backbone of our defence for many years to come.
Schulz was terrific again today. I know a lot of people have run out of patience with him,but I reckon if we just let him play exclusively at full forward for 120 minutes a week at Richmond, he may just come good yet. I think a big part of the problem with him has been that he's never been allowed to have a clearly defined role. One minute he's across half-forward.The next we get an injury down back, and he's swung into defence,or worse to the bench for long stretches. As I say, just leave him at full forward with Jack, Morton,Nahas,Browny and maybe Patto in support, and there's our starting six.
Cogs and Thompson were fighting it out for Whitey's spot next week, with Cogs probably just shading him. But I would like to see Thommo come in sometime soon, to see what he can do. Also Hislop played well today (in a no.35 jumper I think), and earned a big rap from Rawlings for his defensive pressure. Which is something that Gourdis continues to apply, constantly chasing down blokes coming out of defence.
Anyway, that's my impressions of a pretty pleasing day overall.

How was Edwards' game in your opinion? On the radio it sounded like he had the ball on a string and was close to our next best behind Schulz.
I think Sarge's problem is at the slower VFL level the opposition leave defensive gaps for a lead and mark forward. It's more old school footy. Whereas at AFL the forwards have to (repeatedly) work their backside off to find space and get their hands on the footy inside 50. Sarge can also stay at home close to goal at VFL level whereas forward defensive pressure is the buzz word at AFL level. For Sarge it isn't so much what he does at AFL level that's the problem; it's what he doesn't do. He's kicked bags for Coburg a number of times whereas he's regularly had little impact up forward for Richmond and gone missing.
-
Hiya Mighty Tiges,
Just on Shane Edwards: My Coburg mates and I do tend to follow the forwards from end to end, so we miss a lot of the finer details at the defensive end. But Edwards did spark a lot of debate amongst our group. His fans were piping up when he completed a good piece of play, and saying he should be at Richmond. His detractors pointed out his skinny frame after 2-3 years on our list, said that Nahas had done more in a short time, and made a meal of Shane's odd clangers.
My opinion of Edwards is that he started his career very promisingly, but has gone backwards. This proves that he can play, but for whatever reasons his development has stalled. I can understand that giving him a defensive role at Coburg is a learning experience designed to round out his game. But ultimately, I hope that it will only make him a better forward at Richmond. Because I still believe that he is only a crumbing forward. Back pockets and HBF's should have muscle and grunt or you'll get exposed IMO. Look at McMahon and Edwards on our half-back line against Carlton in rd1 for proof.
I forgot about JON who still provides comedy gold. I love the kid's endeavour, but his awareness compared to some of his brothers at other clubs is just laughable. Yesterday we were on the break between wing and half-forward without a Werribee player within coo-ee of the ball, and an open forward line beckoning. All JON had to do was pick up the ball unopposed, and run into goal. But he got a fit of the fumbles, and bumbled, flailed and tripped himself up trying to gather, before finally just managing to get spill it to a teammate.
Finally on Schulz. I guess it's just frustrating to see him go back to Coburg and do so consistently well. But not be able to re-produce it at Richmond. Is it solely the increase in tempo and defensive professionalism? Is it that he's constantly being chopped and changed, and benched instead of settling into a full forward role? Or is it that we just don't deliver to our forwards properly? Look how other teams use the corridor and send in chest high bullet passes in front of their forwards to run onto. While we continue to build up the wing and bomb to the goalsquare. If as you say MT other sides are good at closing down our forwards leading space, isn't it our job to find a way to open that space up again, rather than giving up and blaming the forward?

Edwards & McMahon are VFL players like Shulzs and should stay there or move on to SANFL WAFL QFL cause they aint AFL standard

Round 8 Match Report
COBURG TIGERS v WERRIBEE TIGERS
ABD GROUP STADIUM
SUNDAY 31ST MAY
By Glenn Robertson
Coburg returned home to ABD Group Stadium this week to take on the Werribee Tigers on Sunday. The Burgers have been very hard to beat at home this year and went into the game as solid favourites. Jack Riewoldt who had kicked twelve goals in the previous two weeks returned to the Richmond side, however the Burgers side was still heaving with a bundle of Richmond listed players.
Contrary to previous weeks the Burgers had their kicking boots on early and were exceptionally accurate in front of goal, converting almost every set shot they had.
At the main break both sides had a similar amount of scoring shots but the Burgers had a near unassailable lead. Jay Schultz was the standout player for the Burgers kicking eight majors, as the boys ran away with a 58 point victory.
Coburg got on top of Werribee early thanks to the great run out of defence and through the midfield from Jake King and Jordan McMahon. Both men are experienced players and their use of the ball moving forward was excellent. Werribee managed to slot through three majors for the term, but the Burgers mustered six of their own and went into the first break with a 19 point margin in their favour.
¼ Time: Coburg Tigers 6.4 (40) Werribee 3.3 (21)
The Burgers turned it up a notch in the second quarter kicking an extremely accurate seven goals one behind for the quarter. Werribee on the other hand were atrocious in kicking for goals converting only three majors from the eleven shots on goal for the quarter. Coburg’s great defensive pressure was a key to Werribee’s inaccurate quarter. Shane Edwards shone in the second term with his explosive speed allowing him to break free from the stoppages, he also finished with two majors. The Burgers held a decisive 37 point lead at the main change.
½ Time: Coburg Tigers 13.5 (83) Werribee 6.10 (46)
The speed of play dropped a little during the third term, with Werribee able to hold the ball up for small periods during the quarter. Never the less Coburg made the most of their scoring opportunities when they controlled the ball and outscored the Werribee side again to take a nine goal margin into the final break. Jay Schultz was clearly the best player on the ground. Not only did he finish with eight majors but his marking was outstanding. Each big grab caused for a large roar form the home fans.
¾ Time: Coburg Tigers 17.8 (110) Werribee 9.11 (65)
The result was clearly beyond doubt in the final term, and it showed by the way both sides just went through the motions to finish off the match. Tim Clarke was again instrumental winning the hard ball at the stoppages, while the return of Mark Coughlan also strengthened the Burgers midfield. Coburg added another three goals in the last quarter and eventuated comfortable 58 point winners. It was the Burgers their win on the trot and elevates them to third spot on the ladder with a very healthy percentage. This Sunday the Burgers meet North Ballarat at the Northern Oval starting at 2.00pm, with the reserves at 11.10am.
Coburg Tigers 6.4 13.5 17.8 20.12 (132)
Werribee Tigers 3.3 6.10 9.11 10.14 (74)
Goal Kickers: J. Schulz 8, N. Carnell 2 , S. Edwards 2, T. Hislop, A. Thomson, D. Gourdis, J. King J. McMahon, J. Post, D. Connors, N. Liddle
Best Players: J. Schulz, J. King, T. Clarke, S. Edwards, J. McMahon, M. Coughlan
RESERVES
Coburg’s reserves notched their fourth win of the season defeating Werribee by 38 points. After a five goal lead at quarter time the boys added four majors to two in the third term to put the result beyond doubt. The win moves the Burgers back in to the top four on the ladder.
Youngsters Nic Cattapan and Dean Putt were outstanding for the Burgers dominating play all over the ground, while Cleve Hughes was the main target up forward finishing with four majors for the match. Hamish Dahl and Christian McErlain were also solid contributors for Coburg
Coburg Tigers 5.6 7.9 11.12 16.14 (110)
Werribee Tigers 1.1 4.5 6.7 10.12 (72)

Cheers RR. Been meaning to reply to your post :cheers
I forgot about JON who still provides comedy gold. I love the kid's endeavour, but his awareness compared to some of his brothers at other clubs is just laughable. But he got a fit of the fumbles, and bumbled, flailed and tripped himself up trying to gather, before finally just managing to get spill it to a teammate.
I remember that play from the broadcast lol. JON's a good lad but sadly isn't an AFL footballer and he should never have been a first round pick. Not his fault of course that he was rated so highly. I don't think a new coach will have much sympathy for a flanker who is still running around in the VFL after 4 years in the system. Would another club think to itself it's more Richmond's fault (ie. player development or lack of) and offer up a draft pick for him at the trade table given he was a top 10 pick?
Finally on Schulz. I guess it's just frustrating to see him go back to Coburg and do so consistently well. But not be able to re-produce it at Richmond. Is it solely the increase in tempo and defensive professionalism? Is it that he's constantly being chopped and changed, and benched instead of settling into a full forward role? It's probably a mixture of all three reasons you've mentioned RR to be honest given our lack of scoring. However, I still think the main reason Sarge has struggled at AFL level is he is too one-dimensional as a forward and he provides no presence or pressure both in the air busting packs open and at ground level. He goes missing and comes across as lazy both in physical effort and above the shoulders. He just does too many dumb lazy things that he may get away with in the VFL but can't be tolerated at AFL level. I remember the Brisbane game where he showed no composure 70m out from goal despite having time to find the best option and he just kicked the ball high inside 50 without even looking. We did actually get a goal from the ensuing contest lol but you won't score many with blind hail marys into the forward line. His goalkicking return hasn't been that crash hot either for Richmond - just 3 goals from 4 games as a FF and not the most reliably accurate kick either in Y&B :P. 7 years in the system is a long time to be just a fringe player. If Port are still interested or the rumours going around the traps are true that North may be interested after Sarge kicked 8 on Hansen last weekend then trade him.
