If Richmond dont grab Brent Connerly now its going to be a chance lost of a Forward / Ruckman who has good ability around the ground at 202cm.
Very young he is home sick & would be a great asset to the club. very promising young player  :thumbsup

Lloyd may hang up the boots
Jake Niall | September 15, 2009

ESSENDON captain Matthew Lloyd is leaning towards retirement, with the forward having privately indicated his time at Windy Hill is almost certainly up.

While Lloyd has not ruled out a shift to another club for one or two years, retirement is the more likely option, and it is clear that, at this stage, the full-forward does not see a role for himself at Essendon in 2010.

Lloyd is understood to have told teammates over the weekend that he did not think he would play on with Essendon next year. He spent Saturday and Sunday with several teammates on a buck's weekend for senior teammate Mark McVeigh.

Lloyd's media conference on now. He's officially announced his retirement.

No idea how he never kicked well over 100 goals in a season given the dominance of Essendon 1999-2001 and how he operated out of the goal square at that time. Just 120 or so more than Richo over the course. Won't be too many more FFs like him the way the game is going.

answer to that is Essendon never focused on Lloyd as the the only player in the forward line & had Hird, Lucus, & many others to kick the goals.
Title: Re: Retirements and Delistings 2009
Post by: mightytiges on September 23, 2009, 02:56:06 PM
Lloyd kicked over 100 goals in 2000-1 and was regularly around the 90 mark when the Bombers made the finals pre-2004. As Essendon fell away so did the number of goals he kicked per season. One of the best kicks for goals in his prime but spoiled himself by diving for frees which the umps always fell for until his reputation for doing so eventually caught up with him. I can still remember him in a game in early 2000 just deliberately falling to ground between Gas and Chubba with no one touching him and he was paid the free  ::).

Lloyd obviously didn't agree with Knighter on his role and has quit. He wanted to play FF as captain and Knighter's most likely told him Watson will be captain and Lloyd would have to play across HF next year with Neagle and Gumbleton in the main KPP roles.

Malthouse mentioned at Collingwood's B&F that Carlton's Nick Stevens will retire due to his neck injury....

"I don't like saying this about a young kid who will probably finish his career in the next week or so when he announces he's got a crook neck," Malthouse said in an obvious reference to Stevens.

"We will stand by our decisions, not other people's decisions to bring people into the football club. We were harassed, ridiculed and told we got it wrong when we didn't get Nick Stevens.

"He played one finals match and the bloke we were supposed to give up (Alan Didak) is an All-Australian, best and fairest here . . . I feel sorry for Nick that he can't play with his neck.

"But we know Alan has got many many more years in front of him."

Wheelchair threat to Carlton star Nick Stevens
Tony Sheahan From: Sunday Herald Sun October 11, 2009

NICK Stevens says he is coming to grips with never playing football again.

The Carlton star, 29, has spoken for the first time about the recent recurrence of his neck injury, that he says could make him a quadriplegic.

"If I give it (football) away now and rest up, I'll be fine for later in life, but if I don't do that I'm a big chance to end up in a wheelchair," Stevens said.

I'm not saying he's great and we should pick him up but I'm a bit surprised Shirley has been delisted. Sure he'll turn 30 next year but Judd rated Shirley as his hardest opponent/tagger this year.

It's also been a white since Geelong had a flop Father/Son.

BRISBANE Lions coach Michael Voss has continued to shake up his side's list by cutting a whopping 12 players from the club's books.

The Lions have delisted senior players Joel Macdonald, Scott Harding, Rhan Hooper, Jason Roe, Scott Clouston, Kieran King and Matthew Tyler, and rookies Daniel Dzufer, Pat Garner, Daniel Murray, Adam Spackman and Joel Tippett.

After parting with four draft picks (Nos. 12, 28, 44, 60) in the trade period, the Lions will enter the November 26 NAB AFL Draft with selections 27, 47, 76, 92, 108, 124 and 140.

In other Lions' list news, international Irish rookie Pearce Hanley will be upgraded to the senior list, while vice-captain Luke Power will become the club's third current veteran-listed player.

The fate of the club’s two other rookies, Wade Thompson and Danny Meyer, will be determined over the coming fortnight when the AFL clarifies any changes to the rules regarding rookies.

Collingwood defender Shannon Cox has retired.

The 23-year-old made the decision after realising during the off-season that he no longer had the passion to play football at the highest level.

Title: Trent Croad to retire?

SEN saying today there's a strong word that Trent Croad will retire due to injury. He's had three operations on his ankle and Croad's doctor told him it still won't heal.

The powers to be should look at some special ruling for players that have played "X" amount of games and are trying to overcome injuries over the pre-season.

Example 1
Richo, doesnt think he will be right so opts to retire for the better of the team.

Example 2
Croad, thought he would be fine but now doesnt look like he will make it. End result Hawks go into the season a player down. (so sad)

Anyone that has given so much to the game puts bums on seats and that is what sponsers want, return for their money as well as giving vetrans every chance to see what they can do over summer.

I would work the basics like this.
Any player that has a minimum of 150 or 200 games may be given to and including the first round of the preseaon competition to try and get their bodies right. In the event they dont make it they must retire on the following day after said game. That would result in any player on the rookie list can then be listed on the senior list, for the lenght of the season.

A little rough but you get the idea, Maybe someone can type it up better and we can start a petition to email around other clubs fan sites. Given enough people voting for it the AFL would have to at least look into it.

Trent Croad to call it quits
Tony Sheahan
Herald Sun January 05, 2010

HAWTHORN premiership defender Trent Croad is set to announce his retirement.

Croad forecast the announcement to a group of teammates over drinks on Saturday night, explaining he had lost his battle with a recurring foot problem.

Croad, 29, had agreed to a new one-year deal and was buoyant about a return, but the news turned sour last month after another scan on the foot.

A six-figure settlement is still to be agreed.

here we are and the media talkng about our huge turnover this yr yet two other teams turned over more and it seems most teams  turned over at least 9.
look how many both grand finalists turned over. no sitting on their laurels and continually striving to improve.
