Title: Richmond Versus Carlton - Game Day Thread
Post by: WA Tiger on July 09, 2009, 10:44:00 PM
Well I have been waiting to get this thread going since I sat back last wekend and watched the Carlton v Freo game and this is why;

I have never been so confident all year that we can win a game as I am now, this one is in the bag for mine. While watching the Freo v Carlton game last week I was less than impressed by Carlton for a number of reasons. They looked slow, unskillfull, undisciplined and reliant on one player............ Judd, ok maybe two......... Judd & Gibbs.

We were very good against the Crows albeit in patches, but gee when we run the lines, go direct, use the ball well and apply pressure we are as good as any team in the comp and we have proven that this year without result.

We can win this game so don't be surprised when we do, Carlton are over rated IMO and Fev is starting to do his usual. I don't believe they have a forward line other than Fev and I don't rate thier backline against our forwards who I believe have improved with Nahas pressuring backmen and keeping the ball down there and Riewoldt and Morton due for bags of goals.

Jackson will keep Judd quiet, Tuck will beat Gibbs and Cuz will take out Murphy. Cotch will come good and take out Carrazo and our strong backline with Rance back in will do the job. We also have White in who will add to the pace department, I would also expect that maybe King could be a late withdrawall and Thompson or Pato come in, but good luck to King if he plays.

We have nothing to lose and that is how we will play so come on everyone lets back them in this weekend :thumbsup

I just had a look at the site "Talking Carlton"and there is a surprising number of pessimistic Chicken littles over there.

Many are saying its the worst Carlton team picked for the year...Some reckon its a 50/50 game. One bloke believes we will win by 40+ points.

It appears that their usual cockiness took a hammering a fortnight ago and has been replaced with a "expect the worse-be pleasantly suprised" attitude.

Luxbet Odds

Carlton     $ 1.28
Richmond $ 3.75

Line at 23.5 points

If that round 1 abomination still burns in the players' guts even half as much as it does the supporters, then that is all the motivation we'll need to beat this stinking mob.
Title: Re: Richmond Versus Carlton - Game Day Thread
Post by: WA Tiger on July 10, 2009, 09:07:12 AM
Never mind the 40+ points the Blues supporters are talking about, if we get our game on song.... add the 1st and last qtr's together from the Saints and Crows games and then the play from the freo game and we are talking redemption ++++++++ from round one. I firmly believe we can win this by over 10 goals.

Just get rid of the little men in your heads guys and play like you can.

Ch 10 news said Judd is sore. He started training later than the others.

Also emergency Cameron Cloke trained whereas Setanta O'hAilpan didn't. So maybe at least one late change for the Blues tomorrow.

Post by: RollsRoyce on July 10, 2009, 06:17:49 PM
Yes, I saw that on ten sport too. Great news. Hopefully Jacko and co. really target Judd for some physical punishment tomorrow. Glad Cloke is in too. I hope Cuz has a long memory, and pays him back for that cheap shot 20m off the ball in rd.1

Carlton's BF board also saying Setanta has bruised kidneys and definitely won't play. The result of 'friendly' fire from Fev.

Free to Jake King on 50m. He didn't think he could kick it despite the breeze so only jabbed at it but it still carried it. Point.

Carlton run it down for a point. From the kick in Edwards gets caught but we clear.

Yep those two dumb frees and a dropped mark by Lukey cost us 3 goals. That's the margin.

Our skill level is atrocious. Too cute in these windy conditions. Handblling instead of kicking long and K.I.S.S. :banghead

Their rucks and Judd are killing us at centre clearances and stoppages. It's meant ot be a strength of ours but we are being murdered today. We're really missing Foley even if he is insn't flavour of the month on here.

We are also playing a high zone to stop the ball coming out of our forward line but it isn't working. The Blues are breaking through and we are exposed.

Nahas 9 possies of which 7 are contested. Bucks saying if his teammates had his attitude, desperation and workrate we'd get back into this game.

Shaw wants us to push Lids forward to give us another marking option.

Good effort today from the boys. If we had kicked straight wed win by 6 goals anyway ... we are 1 week closer to the extra pick we need and 1 week closer to getting the best picks we can.  :cheers

Bucks calling Lids lazy again. Just working on natural ability. He's had 99 minutes on ground out of 120. He should be working harder with a 30 min rest over the game.

Scores aside we won that game but the hand balls...... I really think Jade won't get the job as he seems to be playing off Wallace's game plan... IMO.

Anyone wanna rate Edwards, King and Hislop?

yeah ill rate them.  stuffin    P A T H E T I C.

3 things about today

im content about the result. going to plan perfectly.

secondly im glad jade cant get it right & win games because we dont want another geesh on our hands and quite frankly he is rubbish.

thirdly those 3 you mentioned Ramps are the reason why we are ridiculed and laughed at by most in the league.

Great day for Post and Vickery. Now where r those fools a month ago who said not to play Vickery. NFI some of you on here

Edit: swear filter avoidance

Unfortunately it's the scores that count.  Riewoldt needs some to settle him down before going for goal like Cambo used to do to Richo.  Was it really windy or are our skills simply shocking?

the wind was very bad, wrappers all over the ground in the first half.

That being said dont think it made a difference dont think it makes a difference to Jack. He needs some direction on how to kick.

Lids was head to head with Judd for most of the second half and i would say came out on top with him having 12 disposals and a goal to 10 diposals for Judd.  I wouldnt call that lazy, Tagging Judd is no easy task.

I got the feeling from what Bucks said today he would love to coach Lids. He obviously was paying close attention to Lids' game. Lids was very good today and had the better of Gibbs and then Judd but Bucks obviously saw what Lids needs to do to step up from the good player he is to an elite player in the Judd/Ablett class. More constructive criticism albeit very direct than bagging Lids as such.

WAT, i dont think that the Jade is using TW's game plan, i just think the boys are struggling to lose it after 4 1/2 years! Daniel, give credit where credit is due, Kingys game was far fron "effin pathetic". He won his position today. Pleased with the kids, Post and Vickers are going to be real good players for us.
Plenty of positives today :thumbsup

Fevola....

Do you reckon he even knew whether the Blues were winning out there today?

One of the most selfish players I have ever seen.

Sure he chased and put pressure on today, but it was only so he could get a career best.

Blues have no chance of any real success with him in the side.

Enjoyed the game - at least we did not get smashed.

I regards to calling Lids lazy - I thought he was on Judd for abit of the game which is not easy. He finshed with 30 touches, 2 goals which is not too shabby.

Vickery showed a bit leading + Post looks the goods, thank Geez they are playing him as a forward. If Reiwoldt learns how to kick he will be a good player. Along with Morton, Nahas etc. if looks like we might have a forward line in the future.

Good that Cotchin got lots of it. Thought Tambling was not bad.

---

King, Polo, McGaune, Edwards, Hislop, Moore really need to do abit more.

Some of Thursfeilds efforts vs. Fev when the ball hit the ground was not flash.

I thought we showed some really good signs yesterday, so much better than the week before. Post and Vickory look to have a future. I must admit until yesterday i was a little worried about Vickory.
Also what do you guys think of Rance at the moment? I personally think he has gone backward, his kicking yesterday was really bad and he seems to turn like the Queen Mary at the moment to, just doesn't seem like the same guy that was playing earlier in the year. Time to go back to Coburg for mine. Thoughts?
Edwards can go to.
But all in all, i think we were ok.

Great results for the PRO-TANKERS

And for me ...well.... I am just sick of losing.

Was very impressed with Vickery and Post, especially Vickery. Last coupple of weeks, he really has looked liked he belonged

Thought Jake King was good - he won the contest against SImpson, who usually playes well against us

Really enjoyed the Deledio -v- Judd match (after the Jackson/Judd match up was a disaster :banghead). Thought Lids efforts on Judd was great. Perhaps we should look at doing that more often, set the kid the challenge of playing on a gun player? It seems to bring out the best in him IMV

Tend to agree Ramps, I though the Rance's disposal at times was very poor.

And I will hold my tongue regarding our captain and his constant desire to run around in circles  :banghead

With what I am seeing with his disposal it is probably the reason why he was still around at our second round draft pick when he was touted to go higher.

Still he is only young and for that reason since this year is gone I would be playing him all year in the top side.

Out of interest here's Rhett's post on BF:

I know that several board members foudn the loss against Carlton not as disheartening as most.
They felt that the youngsters in the game stepped up quite well.

After seeing the blues go around against us and their over reliance on Fev, they are going to have to pull their socks up big time if they are going to make the finals let alone have an impact on them.
