Now that the choice has narrowed down to the final two, who do you prefer as coach out of Hardwick and Hinkley?
-
Hinkley for me.
Experience coaching his own side (with premiership wins)
Geelong wanting to keep him until the end of the finals clinched the deal.
;)
-
Neither.
Although Hinkley would be if I had to choose.
Club will probably pick Hardwick
-
why jack?
what is about it either of them that says "NO"
-
Out of those 2 Hinkley for me

I just think that the job is extremely difficult. Many now have come and gone with little results, question I ask why would either of these 2 make any difference, sorry to be negative but there is huge issues at Punt Road that people dont seem to understand.
We currently have a President who is okaying that Richo plays on next year, thats underminding any new coach before they start isnt it.
Just in recent years, we have resigning of players on large contracts who clearly arent up to it and will be still there in 2010. Its clearly a business decision now in whether you pay them out as they cant be traded ( no other club would want them ) or keep rubbish at the club that the new coach has to work with.
I know the club have spoken to Leigh Matthews on many occassions , although he didnt want to go anywhere near Punt Rd due to the above problems and others..
Would think the other coaches who pulled out of the process, didnt want to be involved due the above either.
Why would Richmond offer Wayne Campbell the prospect of coming back to Punt Road with the prospect of being a senior coach, only for him to say, nah not for me, Forget about that he isnt ready for it, more to the fact that the problems are too big
-
Rumour going around that Hardwick will be ruthless in regards to list management ans said as much as 2nd interview.
This takes him to the top of the tree for me.
I love Richo like a god but it's time to let go people !! A broom needs to go through the place in one gigantic surge and if Harwick is willing to do this, he gets my vote.

I would totally agree and the broom should clean out others as well, problem is ,it wont happen, Way too many egos

If the rumours are true as to what he said in the 2nd interview in terms of what he thought of the list and how he would go about doing this job then I am still on the Hardwick bandwagon. Richmond needs a ruthless cull. Let Hardwick go about his business atleast with him we will get rid of the crap inside the first 2 years and thats how long it will take to get rid of it. Will Hinkley do the same?
So its Hardwick for me!

here here. Hardiwck for mine. Lets be honest its just a guess for all we know Hinkley could be a better coach also
problem is as Jack as mentioned b4 a big clean out wont happen.
2 many people get involved as is proof by March's comments about Richo getting another contract.
He will probably has to get involved in evrey player and thats why we are screwed till a new coach has the balls to clean the place out
-
Well I'm not going to base my preference on a rumour.
Hinkley.
-
If these undelying problems persist at punt road ,is there nobody that can "grab the bull by the horns" and turn this ship around once and fo all.Us the mugs that love the club with all our being and front year in year out,are pleading for this, nothing more nothing less.
Or maybe March and co and their review process have seen this and are moving as quick as is possible....Freaken hell I dont know
-
Now that is down to 2, Rawlings :(

rumours rumours
how do we know that hinkley wont be ruthless with the list either?
hinkley for me

Even if what you say has a modicum of truth, isn't it better to start this new era with a bit of confidence and optimism rather than continually trying to find the negative?
The club is a basketcase but it's not a total write off
Try and get excited about something will ya :banghead
Hinkley for me but I would support Hardwick if he got the job

You're easily swayed.
The problem isn't getting rid of people -that's easily done. The hard part is who is he going to replace them with.
That I'd like to hear what he's going to do and how he will do it.
And what guarantees he'll be any better than the last coach and the coach before etc
That's our problem as I see it.
-
I must admit at the start of the process I was leaning towards Hardwick first, lately I've leaned more towards Hinkley, quite strongly too.
Regardless of the coach I'm pretty confident we'll delist/trade 9-10 players at the end of the year, I don't think any more is a good idea, it throws the list balance out too much. I also don't think we can afford to cut all six 30+ year olds for TPP reasons.
Mick Malthouse cleaned out the majority of the list over three years when he arrived at Collingwood, 10 the first year then 8 each of the next two years, I see us doing something similar. You also never know how some of the younger players may perform under a new coach. Just look at the turn around in Edwards form under Rawlings compared to earlier this year. Even King is playing much better football as a tagger under Rawlings. Get someone the level of Hardwick or Hinkley and who knows what we'll get out of these kids. No one rated the Hawthorn youngters already on their list when Clarkson arrived, but the bulk of them are the players that won Hawthorn the flag last year. Our kids were all talented juniors, so there has to be something in them to work with.
I'd also like to know who each candidate was going to bring with him as his assistants, but the public will never know that.
-
I dont know who to support....All i can say is that both hinkley and hardwicke,as was Allan richardson, were very good footballers in their time.Whether they make good/great coaches only time will tell.
Anyway I'm glad B Gale is sitting in on the process...Thats someone i've heard speak and seen play also, thus i respect him.

Hardwick is a tough guy, Hinkley is a diplomat.
Hardwick will cut players, Hinkley will develop them.
Hardwick is all braun and no brains, Hinkley is all brains and no braun.

Now that is down to 2, Rawlings :(
:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup - RFC's loss not giving Jade the gig but as Cuz' tatt says "such is life"
Seriously, though once this porcess is all over, I'd really like to know exactly whay type of person they skill set wise they were after.... the final 2 are the 2 safe conservative options.... which don't fit into the what I reckon we needed but having said......
Time to over ...whatever
-
Hardwick for me. Will support Hinkley if he gets up.
-
hinkley is a goose.. hardwick not bad... but like my farther said we missed them again, CAN'T Richmond get better being one of the bigger clubs in AFL?? :banghead

OK mate how about I turn over a new leaf and post more accurate stuff.
How about I start by saying you're a simpleminded fool. That is evidence based. That rubbish you posted about Hinkley and Hardwick is laughable. You simplified it all down for your little brain to be comfortable with.

Defence is the cornerstone of Premiership and sustained success.
Its Hardwick for mine!

So come on big brain, lets hear what you've got to say thats different about both these blokes.

Its neither for me
-
Truth be told and we all know this the club needed Malthouse or Matthews and failing that probably Laidley. Hardwick to me was best of the rest.
-
Its neither for me
Ditto but seeing it has to one or the other :rollin
-
Yep to me Hardwick is the best candidate left.
Wasn't the first person I would have sought at the beginning of this process but I feel this Port Adelaide gig may be playing on his mind also.
He has been overlooked at 2 jobs not 3 as he was not seriously considered at North.
North obviously looked at Scott as it is universally seen that Malthouse is one of if not the best coach in the league getting the most out of his list and any assistant who has worked under him would surely have developed a significant tactical nous which equates to an ability to coach a senior side.
I just hope we don't regret this 2 years from now as North as crap as they are as a club and off the field do get the most out of their players and Scott as a minimum will get that from his list because the club will ultimately stand by him. Will Hardwick or Hinkley?

I agree Tucker
I actually said the other day that I reckon North is a joke of a club but I do have an ounce of respect for them after the appointment of Scott. It was a bold, daring and thinking outside the square decision which is what i really wanted the RFC to do rather than taking the what I would call the conservative approach.
It was interesting to read that one of the reasons why Scott supposedly didn't make it through to the 2nd stage at the RFC was because of his age... that was one of the reasons IMHO he should have been in that 2nd stage but now we will never know

Scott was never a chance IMHO. If they were going with someone in there early 30s they would have gone with Jade.
-
i changed my mind on hinkley.
They're both shitmen.
We're history.
-
I would be happy with either candidates as they were my top 2 at the start of the process based on their successful histories.
At a stretch I would place Hinkley slightly in front of Hardwick but ultimately I think both will do a excellent job if supported.

I have a mate who is close to a number of senior Port players. They have a huge opinion of Hardwick. Massive.
-
I've thought about this a bit the last few days had a few chats to some mates ;D and I've changed my mind :rollin
Although I'd rather someone else who isn't one of the final 2
I can now say out of these 2 I'd now go with Hardwick
Ramps will be pleased ;D :rollin :lol :rollin

Any love for Stinkley?
Word is he will be on the market soon.
