What were your positives from last night's game?
-
Nason looks like he could become a good footballer. Took some good marks. Trent as the game went on got better. Will be better for the run. Daniel played well in the backline. Jack and Cousins are class acts. For the limited possessions Jack had he was very good. Thomson played an okay game.
-
Ben Nason
Relton Roberts
Martin
And I thought Jack Reiwoldt's work off the ball was good. Needs to continue to improve he's 2nd & more importantly 3rd efforts but I thought Jack showed improvement
The fact that we ddin't drop our heads until late in the 3rd was a huge bonus for me
I was really impressed with the 1st qtr stuff. Would have been blown away last year after the first 10 minute blues onslaught. Actually first qtr stuff was better than the scoreboard suggested after the mark paid that wasn't to Betts ;D
Finally qtr was pathetic but there were some positives
-
What were your positives from last night's game?
It's over :(
-
It didn't rain so I didn't get wet.
Connors and Relton can kick.
-
the pies and chips were still the same price. :thumbsup
-
Nason was good.
-
Dan Jackson will have another good year
Ben Nason showed glimpses and really has a go
Dan Conners great to see him getting a go
Our two young guns (Martin and Cotchin) will be better for the game time
Jack has it all we simply need to offer him some support
The downside was that our disposal was very poor again!! (albeit not as bad as last year) :(
We still don't work hard enough when they have the ball ..... and the number of times we stood of the ball carrier and didn't move to tackle still has all the hallmarks of Wallace (coralling the player) .... let's hope we train to run to space finally :-[
-
As our home game we get the gate receipts for 72000
No injuries
Ben Nason
The scoreline was better than last year with more kids... so we're improving
-
Nason - prolific, hard at it, fearless and didn't let them get into his head after he missed his first shot at goal.
Relton - despite being a bit underdone fitness wise, reads the play well and positions well, showed some great turns of speed when he needs and is clean with disposal....something we desperately need.. When he gets fit, he is going to be something else...
Riewoldt - was getting dragged and scragged to the ground by two apes all night but still worked hard and was clever at times. Once he gets help up there and can free up more, he will be potent.
I thought we looked a bit underdone fitness wise and our pace was off. Going round the cape doesn't help, and gives me gut ache.
The team NEVER gave up which is what is the biggest positive, they didn't capitulate and fought it out. I thought we missed a bit of hardness in the middle ...someone like Tucky.
-
Haven't seen a lot of Thompson but I thought he wasn't too bad last night. Unsure whether he is a long term palyer though for us.
-
POSITIVES
all 4 debutants martin nason roberts farmer
cotchin got through the game and is all class
jack is getting better (still needs to do more)
NEGATIVES
captain newman
snake simmonds
we still play players that cant kick
-
Cotchin and Connors stood up in my book, 4 kids played and we still have 10 more to bring in.
Its going to be a tough journey but whether we like it or not we need to stick fat and put up with the noise until the rebuild shows the good signs we are all praying for.
-

Would say your correct
-
Positives.
Nason, Martin and Roberts showed a bit. One is a rookie pick, one was pick 71. Good signs that we might get a few handy players from the last draft.
Cotchins mark
-
When we got on a bit of a roll and attacked we looked pretty good :thumbsup That's 1
And 2 that suprised me
Hislop - May turn it over but his pressure was good and liked his attack on the ball :thumbsup That's 2
Thompson - Well blow me down same as above but a bit neater when he gets it :thumbsup That's 3
The young fellas first run and will take time to get match fit for this level and to run out the game - Martin ran past some stage in the 3rd and he was gawwwwn - They will improve keep them in :thumbsup That's 4
Riewoldt seems to be stepping up to his role and really hitting the packs hard :thumbsup That's 5
Now over to the naughty thread
-
No injuries.

gee whiz if thats your positives we are in trouble.
Hislop is a hack of the highest order. He along with a few others like Tambling brings nothing.
you want positives, only Jack is a real positive. he will be a class act. just needs some mates around him that arent from fantasy island
-
nason, looks like he belongs
roberts, lacks a lot of conditioning but will be good
cotchin, was really starting to worry abt him, still a fairway off but looked more explosive and zippy than he did all of last season, confident he will be flyiong later this year if injury free.
martin obviously
Reiwoldt, workhorse, leaves nothing out there
Farmer, liked his disposal a few times to advantage, think he'll be a good back pocket for us
final positive - Newman is finally being exposed for the fraud he is, doesn't run hard enough, no line breaking and loose as. Liability in defence
-
Tamblings stats were really down for the game, but he never starts a season well.
I'd drop him and put him back in for the 4th or 5th round as he never plays well early on.
But I have noticed he has put on muscle on his arms this year, a good sign.
-
Um....... um...........um ..........oh I got one, I got drunk and can't remember the poo that was dished up... :thumbsup.
Nason and thats about it for mine.
-

I have to ask this question, what has putting on muscle got to do when you cant put your hands on the football ???
-
It's not Tambling's fault that people never chose to kick to him.
-
No injuries.
Now thats a + ;D
-
It's not Tambling's fault that people never chose to kick to him.
suppose its not Tamblings fault to give off the ball to hot players who are standing idle
Tambling needs a bloody wake up call & a stint in the Coburg Tigers for at least 1 month
Should have traded him to the Hawks for McGlynn
-

We are in trouble, we have bottomed out when the draft is compromised for years to come.
Jackstar will have a field day this year and the next and probably the next bagging the Tiges

correct. straight to Coburg for a month.
Watched him real close last night and almost all of his tackles were half hearted attempts. He is a liability and a disgrace to be in our starting 22

Mate, only give my opinions.
I hate seeing us on the bottom,
Tambling was a disgrace last night.
Trying to grab a hot ball with one hand aint brave.
Nahas running for the ball and not attacking it, looks at the opposition first, not good.
I dont mind guys like Hislop and Reiwoldlt having a crack., but hate guys who go and play for themselves.
-
Gee I must agree ritchie was simply awuful last night..i got to say that seeing him for the past 5 years plough his trade at mediocre levels is enough for me...Its time to make a stand ritchie or..........
-
Watching Martin and watching Tambling was like chalk and cheese
-
his one handed attempts are woeful. Love his attempts to look cool when each time he has to hold the footy with one hand. He is a crap footballer who will
NEVER win us a game of footy so why persist with them.
we knew it last year and nothing has changed.
Compare him to Foley(who i dont rate highly these days) who can kill the opposition with his running and crashing through packs.
Tambling is a shy little boy who never hurts the opposition where it counts. He is the most timid footballer on our list
-
I wonder why a player(Ritchie) with pace to burn and undoubted skills just doesnt use that talent to absolutely cream his oppsosition......We have waited too long now for him to show his wares...Maybe he just cant cut the mustard
-

Mate , he would struggle to butter the toast ::)
-
Watching Martin and watching Tambling was like chalk and cheese
Chalk and Charcoal,actually
-
Ok I think for me anyway a real positive is Damiens words that"this is as bad as it will get for both the team and him"...For me this shows that Damien has drawn a line in the sand for this young team
-
seems like every thread is the hystrionics, derision and put down thread including this one. Didn't take long.
-

exactly
im not laying the boots into him nor deledio. not their fault they are in a team full of idiots who have no vision or skill

make a happy footy thread ;D

Well, what positives did you see ???
Positive for Carlton they get Judd back. ::)

I was surprised at this comment, there will be many games where we will put in worse performances. Historically we don't have much backbone, what happens if bullies/saints/cats decide to go to town on us, we'll drop our bundle and lose in a most ugly way. You can rest assured pricks like barrett will file away comments like this
-
Why was Morton on the bench ;D
-
ok l will start with some positives
l like the way the lads got into the fights showing they are frustrated & will dish it out
2 Carlton players surely to be suspended as there is video of both incidents
1 umpire will be given the Ass, how 3 umpires make that call & donot over-rule on Betts mark is the worst l ever seen in the game
Fighting back 2 times after being down so much was good to see.
56 point lose was not good considering we played badly saying that Carlton aint the club their win shows
-
lol thats the spirit. We got a ways to go that's no lie.
-
Another positive was the empty reserved seats next time mine, now thats a positive :thumbsup
-
Another positive - Hardwick says we will not play that bad again.
That says to me that instead of worrying about what the opposition is doing and how they are setting up 'in the middle/centre particularly' that they will set themselves up and worry more about getting the pill, then the rest will take care of itself from there.
Get the FArkkken PILL DUDES is your number 1 concern - GET IT !!!!

Would tend to disagree.
We dont do enough homework on the opposition, thus the match up werent right.
No tags on Simpson was a disgrace
-

lol l'm in the MCC with no Richmond membership ;D
-
Not necessarily talking pre-game setup, was more reffering to the centre bounce work, our players seemed too pre-occupied with telling each other where to go and looking at the oppsosition to setup for blocking runs etc.
Instead of doing what Carlton did which was charge in, get the hard ball and subsequently the clearance. Should be more focused on getting their hands on the pill in these circumstances.
-
Young debutants showed something especially Nason.
No injuries
Cotch got through the game unscathed.
Competitive for roughly 3 quarters when we could have just caved after the first 10 mins.
No delusions where we are at.
Media will be spending this week bagging Melbourne and asking how long until Bailey is sacked.
-
No delusions where we are at.
That's it in a nutshell - going to be an interesting year, got to keep it in perspective.
Just hoping the tankers come down to earth with a thud the way some of the dumb nutz I know have been carrying on this week. stupid prix (http://www.smileyhut.com/naughty/bird.gif) (http://www.smileyhut.com)

We are not last on the ladder ;)

After watching a replay and having far more focus on how the players were positioning rather than caring about skill level times are clearly changing at Punt Road. We were out-classed by a better side but the gameplan and application to trying a win a game wasn't overall the same old Richmond. We are going places. Its a hell of a long way away but we';ve begun the trek. :thumbsup

Yes we have TA, spot on.
-
Shame the ferals will never see that and use this time to have cheap shots at the club they are supposed to support.

Yep, and watch the video closely of players putting one hand out when the ball was on dispute.( tambling )
Watch players try and bump and not tackle. ( thomson )
Watch players like Nahas continue to look at opposition players instead of attacking the footy.
Watch the Captain stuff up the ""kicks in"" continually.
Yep, we have a long long way to go.
-
Some supporters have a longer way to go
-
Some supporters have a longer way to go
Mate, if you cant see how poor we were last thursday night, thats your problem, we played Carlton remember. ::) and they aint any good either
Hardwick is right with one thing, we cant get any worse :thumbsup

If we're that bad, and we weren't, supporters should be trying to encourage rather than driving them further into the ground.
But some are not supporters ::)

:bow
-
Daniel Connors long left foot kicking from half back. He made a couple of mistakes and will only learn.
Dustin Martin, played in the middle and can only get better. Got the hard football, just needs to use that beautful kicking skills a lot more then handballing.
Jack Riewoldt's work ethic was very good!
Trent Cotchin when he gets the football is class, however two kicks that were only 15 metres did not hit targets.
Ben Nason, a goer, and will only get better.
:)
-
No Tuck, King, White or McMahon.
-
biggest positive is it's over
-
OMG some people braging about players who have played a single game of AFL
how many times have l seen one game wonders :shh

I have to ask this question, what has putting on muscle got to do when you cant put your hands on the football ???
I meant it as an aside but funnily enough I believe this is one of the most important improvement points. We chose a light player in Tambling, who is never going to be a bang crash tackle type of player, but I hope the need has been identified for a heavier team that can stand up in tackles and still dish off the footy. This to me is an example of an attempt to mold a heavier type of player and an improvement in the off field physical development of players which will pay dividends in the years to come.
For years I have thought we have been too light a team. I think need to choose players who are built heavily but can still cut the mustard with kicking and foot speed (its a real trick to find these players). Any player who can't put on weight ala David Bourke should be got rid of, unless they are exceptional in some way.
I hope we are looking to recruit and build more Nick Daffy type bodies rather than Greg Tivendale type bodies while also avoiding Gaspar like kicking.

Hicks wont make it.
Why I am debating with idiots ::)
-
Nathan Foley's return. :)
