It all comes down to this :gotigers.
-----------------------------------------
The Tigers have not beaten the Swans in Sydney since round seven, 2004, at the SCG and have only played at their round 23 venue, ANZ Stadium, once, in round 22, 2002. But a win would secure Richmond's first consecutive finals appearance since they played five in a row from 1971-75.

The Sydney Swans will not rest players for the sake of it against Richmond in round 23, according to coach John Longmire.

We will win this game. :gotigers

Yes.

Here's one, what do we need to win by and essendon lose by to make up .9% and pinch 7th ;D

Pinch 7th to get smashed by North in first week of finals :shh
-
8 point game.
But really, need to line up some of their blokes off the first bounce and give away the first few frees hoping they go into self preservation mode for their next game.
-
400 point game.
-
Forgot we played there in 02

Even if the swans do rest a couple of big name players this week it doesn't necessarily mean that it will be easier.
The swans have got a few depth listed players starving for senior selection that would want to prove their coach wrong too.
There could be a case of better the devil you know and hopefully some of the regulars will be taking it alittle easy before the finals proper. But knowing the swans that's highly unlikely too as facts are no one in that team could afford to drop off because of the depth they have.
It all points to a disaster for us which we are used too.
I can't see us winning but if we do......

if we do we will have the potbelles at training and lose to port

Should play Kingy just so he can smash some heads in, then sub him off after 5 minutes.

Pinch 7th to get smashed by North in first week of finals :shh
Disagree. North are flakey and very beatable. Would be an easier game than having to play Port in Adelaide or Freo in Perth.
Anyhow , let's worry about that after we beat The Ducks.
-
If people feel we won't beat sydney, then we also shouldn't play finals.

Think we could play three talls-Vickery, Griffiths and Jack on the larger ground but if me the match ups in the backline are going to be critical. Rance will go on Buddy. Would like for Grimes to play on Goodes. Suppose Chaplin on Tippett. The problem is if Tippett gets on top will have to move Rance.

You know what, I know it wont happen and they are going to play Vickery anyway so I would be tempted to play Griffiths down back and drop Chaplin on the grounds of no suitable match up.

Scary that I thought the same way (not the dropping of Chaplin hehehe). Playing Griff gives us an extra tall to play on Tippett.
-
I think you are right Griffiths to play on Tippett
-
If we play Griffiths in defence they've already won the first battle. He's our centre half forward and he's in form.
I doubt very much that Longmire is considering playing Tippett at CHB on Griffiths. We've got Rance , Chaplin and Grimes. One of them goes to Tippett.

Swans can rest half a dozen players, they'll still ruthlessly dispatch us from the 8. Season was lost in round 3 and this has just been our best prick tease yet, two months of bedroom eyes from the same frigid bitch she's always been.

What about Grimes on Buddy, Rance on Tippitt and Chaplin on Goodes? With Griff the back up if that doesn't work. Probably means Vickory gets a game.

I'd consider sending Batchelor to Goodes.
Rough him up a bit ;D

We should tank this game for the better draft pick.
It will be a meaningless win if we get the points.

Well I have my tickets all sorted and I'm really looking forward to this game. Swans record at ANZ is not fantastic so I think we have a much better chance than if it were at the SCG. If we go hard at the footy and play like we have nothing to lose then we will win this. :gotigers

Preview: Sydney Swans v Richmond

August 26, 2014 12:21 PM
TWO OF the competition's hottest teams will go head-to-head at ANZ Stadium in a match that has implications for both the Swans and Tigers. If the Swans win, they can guarantee top spot on the ladder and ensure they host the fourth-placed side in week one of the finals. But the game is far more important for Richmond. Victory will lock up a finals berth for the Tigers and their faithful army of fans, something that seemed unthinkable when they were 3-10 back in June. Their last defeat came against the Swans in round 14, winning eight straight since that day.
WHERE AND WHEN: ANZ Stadium, Saturday August 30, 4.40pm AEST
LAST FIVE TIMES
R14, 2014, Sydney Swans 9.8 (62) d Richmond 7.9 (51) at the MCG
R18, 2013, Sydney Swans 16.14 (110) d Richmond 9.9 (63) at the SCG
R7, 2012, Richmond 13.13 (91) d Sydney Swans 8.14 (62) at the MCG
R21, 2011, Richmond 14.15 (99) d Sydney Swans 7.14 (56) at the MCG
R12, 2011, Sydney Swans 9.21 (75) d Richmond 9.11 (65) at the SCG
THE SIX POINTS
1. The Swans have already locked up their most successful home and away season ever with win No.17 last week. They had previously won 16 games in a year on six occasions – 1935-36, 1945, 1986, 1996 and 2012.
2. This will be the 190th match between the two teams. Richmond holds sway 103-85, with one draw. Since 2006, however, the Swans can boast an 11-3 record against the Tigers.
3. No team has received more free kicks this year than Richmond. They average 18.6 per game, while the Swans are 12th with 16.3.
4. Lance Franklin was the difference between the teams in round 14 this year, kicking four of the Swans' nine goals in a low-scoring contest. Franklin is nine goals clear of Jarryd Roughead in the race for the Coleman Medal.
5. This will only be Richmond's second appearance at ANZ Stadium. They played the Swans at the Olympic stadium back in round 22, 2002, losing by 40 points.
6. Richmond has seven players in the top 100 of the Official AFL Player Ratings, but none of them are currently in the top 50. Brett Deledio, at No.57 overall, leads the way.
Prediction: Sydney Swans by 9 points

Is Kennedy likely to play?

9 points....would be gut wrenching to get so close, would prefer to get smashed, lose % and move one position up in the draft order.

No real surprise but Chaplin has apparently said publicly that he's playing on Tippett.
Oh goody

Being in Astbury ffs
Tipper will extract the urine

You'd think they'd rest him another week even though they said they won't rest players he is genuinely injured. Just my opinion of course

Yep they would be thinking it's just Richmond and the pressure is on them so we should win by about 10+

Could see the logic in both and wouldn't be surprised either way. Read on the AFL site that all their injured players (Kennedy, Reid and someone else) are likely to come back aside from Bird

Swans won't take it easy on the Tigers

CO-CAPTAIN Jarrad McVeigh says the Sydney Swans will have no trouble matching Richmond's intensity when the sides clash at ANZ Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Swans are sitting a game clear atop the ladder, while the Tigers need to win if they are to quality for September.
But McVeigh says the Swans will be using the match as a dress rehearsal for their upcoming finals campaign.
"It won't be hard for us," McVeigh said. "We think we play a finals brand of footy every week and our boys are ready for this game.
"We need a strong lead-up to the finals, so there will be no question that we'll be ready."
The Swans are the last side to beat Richmond, overcoming a 26-point deficit in the second quarter to record an 11-point win at the MCG back in round 14.
McVeigh said the Swans "got lucky" that day and didn't play to their usual standards.

Sounds like they're a bit sure of themselves.
-
Sydney's one of those clubs that never pay respect to us if they lose, it's always about how badly they played and how filthy they or Longmire was at their effort.
Would love to get over the top of them and show them we have some mettle too!

Ladder leaders with just one home and away match to play, the Swans are hopeful of regaining Brownlow Medal fancy Josh Kennedy, fellow midfielder Ben McGlynn and mobile forward-ruckman Sam Reid from injur.

I reckon we were further off our standards. Seems we were dead last on the ladder. :lol

:'(
Doc Larkins doesn't believe the Swans will risk Kennedy and Reid.
When it comes to the Swans, I think they would be nervous about risking Josh Kennedy after he missed only one game with a low-grade left hamstring injury. If there is any concern at all later in the week, he'll have another week off to be ready for the finals. A recurrent injury would see him miss 3-4 weeks at best.
Sam Reid missed on the weekend with chronic hip soreness and is probably going to need another week off to be available for the finals.

Im expecting the swans to do to us what we did to the saints.
1st quarter - Swans to dominate and put us to the sword early. Swans by 34 points.
2nd quarter - Slight fight back from us with some hope going into the long break. Swans keep us in it by kicking poorly at goal. Swans by 13 points.
3rd quarter - Swans turn it on and put the nails into the coffin with little to no resistance from us. Swans by 48 points.
4th quarter - Some respectability added to the score line as the swans put the cue in the rack & we continue to think we arent that far away from the eventual premier. Swans by 17 points.
I hope im wrong though.

Jack Riewoldt says Richmond confident of beating Sydney Swans to play in finals
Sam Edmund
Herald-Sun
August 28, 2014
RICHMOND star Jack Riewoldt says the Tigers will have to produce their best performance “for quite some while” to roll Sydney and secure a miracle finals berth.
The Swans have won 16 of their past 17 matches, and Richmond must beat them at ANZ Stadium to feature in September.
The Tigers are riding an eight-game winning streak.
“The Swans are top of the ladder for a reason.,” Riewoldt said. “They’re a very good side with great firepower up forward, their mids are very good and they’ve got some level heads down back.
“Anything can happen. AFL is like that — any side on any day can come out and if they click and get everything right and play the way they want to play ... we can do that.
“The last eight games have been must-win games. We’ve been able to travel well. We beat West Coast in the wet, we beat Adelaide — two teams challenging for eighth spot.”
Ironically, Richmond’s most recent loss was against Sydney at the MCG in Round 14, leaving the Tigers a miserable 3-10.
Riewoldt said he was excited by the prospect of playing in the finals, after the dramatic turnaround, was sparked by a series of mid-year “honesty sessions”.
“I think we’ve definitely matured. We had some pretty solid sessions where we were pretty honest with each other,” he said.
“Sometimes that stuff is really hard to do and it’s hard to tell your mate that you really need him to step up more and you expect more of him, but that’s just the nature of the beast and what we had to do.
“We’ve learned a lot from the start of the season and we’ve learned a lot about ourselves. I reckon our leaders have probably stepped up and matured most, starting with the captain (Trent Cotchin).”
Lance Franklin was the difference in Sydney’s 11-point win over Richmond in Round 14, kicking four goals in a low-scoring scrap, but Riewoldt said there was no need to change defending “Buddy”.
“(We) back Alex Rance in 100 per cent,” he said. “I couldn’t think of a better bloke to play on him and I’m bloody glad he plays for our club.”
Riewoldt said Dustin Martin was certain to return from hamstring soreness, but reserved his opinion on Tyrone Vickery, who is available after serving his suspension.

Cotchin confident of matching it with the Swans
Jennifer Phelan
afl.com.au
August 27, 2014 4:02 PM
SKIPPER Trent Cotchin says the Richmond players will enter Saturday's must-win clash with the Sydney Swans confident they can match it with the ladder leaders.
The last game the Tigers lost was incidentally against the Swans.
That was back in round 14 and came after a few weeks of improved form from Damien Hardwick's men, after their disastrous 50-point loss to Essendon in round 11.
Cotchin said the fact they narrowly lost to the Swans after leading by 26 points in the second quarter gave them confidence that Saturday wasn't mission impossible.
"I think we showed last time we played against them we can compete with them," Cotchin told AFL.com.au this week.
"We did our due diligence after that game. I think we only scored one goal in the second half, which you probably can't win games of footy doing.
"It was a real scrum/scrimmage sort of match in the last quarter as well.
"We take learnings out of that and confidence out of the way we've been playing but we also know they're on song at the moment and we're going to have to take something away from them."
The equation is simple this week. Win and the Tigers will play finals for a second consecutive season.
Lose and they have to rely on the results of other teams around them to hold onto eighth spot.

Tippett will be lucky to play.

Gotta hit them hard early, I mean physically go out to hurt them, not illegally but big strong hits in tackles and the contest, so as to make them doubt it enough to go into self preservation mode for finals.

The Swans will probably be thinking the same thing trying to jump out of the blocks and break our spirits so it's not a hard fought four quarter battle for themselves. So we need to at least stick with them on the scoreboard early on if we ourselves don't/can't jump out of the blocks.

Well according to Barrett, we might as well not even bother flying up there :boredom...
Richmond
IF ....... we're going to leave ourselves wide open for a smashing by a group of supporters which has no rival when it comes to real venom...
THEN ... here it is: the Tigers are no hope against the Swans and the 2014 season was a complete waste.
Sydney Swans
IF ...... your playing career was completed under Denis Pagan as coach...
THEN ... it is not in your DNA to rest fit players, or ease-up, at any stage of a season, even in a dead rubber final round.

SECOND DOMINO: RICHMOND (Saturday 4.40pm)
If the Magpies win, they will be barracking hard for Sydney. If the Tigers pull off a boilover, Richmond will play finals regardless of other results. If they lose, they need all the other contenders to fall over to sneak in Steven Bradbury style.
Here are three reasons the Tigers can make it nine in a row — not mentioning their hot form a decent recent record against the Swans (it’s 3-3 since 2010).
1. MOTIVATION
See above. Sydney is safe in top spot and is gearing up for a qualifying final next week — if it comes to the crunch will players risk getting hurt and missing that game? No such worries for Richmond.
2. A MARIC MADE IN HEAVEN
We’ve heard a lot this week about the mouth-watering Buddy v Alex Rance match-up and that should be a beauty — don’t expect a bag of goals from Lance Franklin. But where the Tigers have a huge advantage is in the ruck, with seasoned warrior Ivan Maric lining up against first-gamer Sam Naismith.
The Sydney beanpole has a few centimetres on Maric but the Tiger has 130 games and nine years of AFL experience under this hefty belt. It gives the Richmond midfield a great chance to get their hands on the footy first — especially with clearance king Josh Kennedy still on the sidelines.
3. DUSTY AND LIDS
Richmond was far from disgraced when it lost to Sydney in Round 14 but it did struggle to kick a winning score, booting just seven goals for the night.
Jack Riewoldt is fresh off a six-goal haul but will manned by Ted Richards so goals won’t come easy. Ditto for Ben Griffiths on Heath Grundy.
But the Tigers’ winning hand could be mid-sized forward/midfielders Brett Deledio and Dustin Martin. Both prove match-up headaches playing one-on-one and can kick goals from long range.
If one of them (or the underrated Shane Edwards) kicks three or four Richmond is a red-hot chance.

We have to win....
Whilst the Pies will lose to the Hawks and Gold Coast is a chance of upsetting the Eagles at Metricon, there is no way in hell that I can see the Saints beating the Crows at home in what would be the upset of the year.

Prepare youreslves for yet another match that will live in infamy and be lamented for years to come.
Personally I'm still lamenting Ellis' pathetic effort on Giansiracusa. That's really where the 4 points we're looking for tomorrow went.

Plenty of scenarios that let us down, think it's a bit stiff to stick to one that a young player made. Got sucked in by a smart experienced player

Fox Footy expert Dermott Brereton lists seven outcomes likely to feature in a Richmond win
Herald-Sun
August 29, 2014
RICHMOND travel to ANZ Stadium to battle the ladder leaders to maintain its spot in the eight and achieve an unlikely finals birth.
It’s a monumental challenge for the Tigers, but stranger things have happened and if an upset is to materialise, here is seven likely outcomes.
1. Lance Franklin is the key to Sydney’s scoring prowess. He is a difficult beast to match up on, but Alex Rance has a good track record.
He has the all-round mobility to stay with Buddy and physical power for one-on-one scraps. He can take down the league’s No. 1 forward again.
Statistically, Franklin won the duel the last time they met with four goals in a low-scoring game. But I’ve seen nearly every game Franklin has played and it is fair to say Rance pushes him.
Rance likes to play Franklin shoulder-to-shoulder in the stand up and deliver marking contests. And that is Lance’s least preferred option.
He likes to be out in front on the lead, or “body up” from behind when marking. He takes the pace off the ball with the initial touch and then, in the ensuing juggle to claim the mark, he outreaches his nearly always shorter opponent.
Rance tends to get under his armpit, push him sideways and upset the symmetry of his hands.
2. Adam Goodes is a champion, but the 2014 version of Goodes is a very good player who has reduced his output to cameos inside the forward 50m.
What he does well, he still does incredibly well. But then there’s what he isn’t doing at all any more — he just doesn’t put any pressure on the opposition when they have it.
He is consistently in the bottom few for pressure acts now. If he doesn’t have a carrot dangled in front of him, he struggles to get interested in anything that isn’t going to make a highlight reel.
Goodes wants to protect his body before the finals and won’t put himself in jeopardy this evening. This is a do-or-die battle for the Tigers, not Goodes.
It seems he is prepared to risk further injury on his knees only if he can impact the game for an immediate scoring involvement, understandable at this point in his career. But it means he can be exploited if he is made to believe an angry, win-at-all-costs Tiger might seriously and deliberately punish him. His hopes of playing deep into the finals series could be damaged.
3. ANZ Stadium is not the Swans’ preferred venue. It is not exactly fortress-like for Sydney, so the Tigers must view this match as up for grabs on neutral territory.
Once a team believes it can’t win, it has lost before the first bounce. But if an inferior team truly believes that, through hard work, a win is its destiny, failure is not an option.
4. Ivan Maric is a competitor. His expected opponent this weekend is the same. But Mike Pyke has not come up, so the Swans have turned to ruck selection No.3.
We saw Sam Naismith play in the Nab Challenge in Canberra earlier this year. He looked incredibly raw and he eventually lost out to Tom Derrickx for the right to be the Swans’ first back-up ruckman.
He has telescopic reach but didn’t seem to have a lot of power in his body, but he must have made some great progress throughout the season because now he gets his chance.
He will have to study Maric’s movements around the ground and keep him within reach in the contest, because Ivan has been taking overhead marks at both ends of the ground.
Should Naismith allow Maric to kick two or more goals while he is on ball, it more than likely will affect the outcome.
5. Sydney’s total team defence is awesome. It is the league leader. But it doesn’t really have a star defender. All the Swans’ lockdown players are workmanlike. They do the job, but they need the midfield support.
Sydney’s star backman are the attacking-style defenders — Nick Malceski, Rhys Shaw and even sometime defender Jarrad McVeigh.
Their best lockdown player in a one-on-one battle is Nick Smith, and he will be required for either Dustin Martin or the in-form Brett Deledio. Dane Rampe will more than likely have to introduce himself to Deledio.
There is a chance against this brilliant team defence that if the ball can be moved quickly towards Richmond’s forwards, and if they can create some legitimate one-on-one battles, they could kick 12-plus goals. That means it’s game on.
6. Troy Chaplin frequently has been the player to whom the other Richmond backman give the ball so he can move it forward accurately. He has taken over from Chris Newman as the outlet player.
It will be a big ask because Chaplin also will have to stop Kurt Tippett marking inside Sydney’s forward 25m.
If Chaplin can get really on top in the first half, perhaps Swans coach John Longmire might even take the heat off him and sub Tippett out early again.
That would be an incredible boost to Richmond’s chances.
7. Last time around, the Swans won by 11 points. But the Tigers were far from disgraced even though they were down the ladder.
Richmond won the contested possession count by +15, clearances by +9, uncontested possession count by +57 and marks by +32. The Swans pride themselves on those areas and Richmond did super-well.
But the Tigers lost the inside 50 count -9, and that gave Franklin enough opportunities.
Richmond moved the ball slowly and denied the Swans access, but lost. Now the Tigers have their mojo back. If they can win similar clearance and contested footy numbers and get the ball to the outside and away from congestion, they will give their forwards better access.
It is not all about moving the ball quickly at every opportunity, because sometimes slowing down the tempo is better. At other times the Tigers will have to flatten their ears and go for broke.
If you give the Swans a look at only one game plan, they will counter it.
A lot needs to go right to beat Sydney. But, in all honesty, there have been bigger upsets this season than the Tigers getting the points this evening.

Like the other Riewoldt last week, never seen a game where they have kicked so accurately
-
Anthony Hudson on SEN is saying the rain up there in Sydney has stopped but there might be a few showers later on. The ground looks in good nick considering it's been raining and they played a NRL game there two days ago.
He also said Tiger supporters were streaming into ANZ stadium. You've got to love our passionate loyal supporter base. We go anywhere anytime ;D :thumbsup :gotigers.

Salute to all the tiges supporters who could get up there, awesome effort.
-
Streaming in two and a half hours before the game starts?
I call rubbish.

They would be at the pub.

Swans have put Reid loose behind the ball in defence. We've kicked it to him the last two times inside 50.

Hardwick needs to do something about Reid. Our long fluid movement of the ball and scoring has dried up since he's moved back there.
Quarter time
Richmond 5.3-33
Sydney 2.1-13

I will take 20 point buffer at qtr time lads
Yeah overall great qtr
But the lat 5 mins was poor, been doing all season opposition is gifted soft goals because we seem to switch off
-
Yeah will take the 20 but we need to keep going, 20 will only be enough with 5 minutes to go.
-
The free against Morris for taking the legs out of a Swans player is the most ridiculous decision I have seen in a long time. Slippery conditions and on his feet when attempting to gain possession, woeful, umps keeping them in the game yet again. We need to keep running, like last week we started taking lazy choices and let the Saint's back in, do the same against the Swans and we lose.
-
Sydney are trying to do the same thing as last time. Get number behind the ball and turn it into rugby so our scoring dries up as they chip away on the scoreboard.

Very poor by Ellis, silly free, very soft, very stupid

Poor defence, go the bloody punch :banghead
Momentum shift now,
We're panicking out of defence
-
We are losing our composure and I have had enough of Morris, 13 up now, we must get another one before half time.

Why is Chaplin standing by him self at the back of the pack

:banghead
Repeat of the first quarter. We dominate the early stages (but haven't put it on the board this qtr) and the Swans run out the quarter with the momentum.

Edwards has to lift, disposal is dreadful.

We have lost our forward pressure and they are controlling the game now..

The game is virtually following the same scoreline as last time we met. We were up by 3 goals at 1/4 time and lead 6.4-40 to 4.2-26 at half-time in round 14 with the Swans getting the last two goals in time-on.
Round 14, 2014
Richmond 4.1 6.4 7.6 7.9-51
Sydney 1.2 4.2 7.5 9.8-62
http://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/2014/141620140620.html
We're winning the contested footy in the midfield but Dimma needs to sort out our forward-half structure and entries quick smart. It's not working with the Swannies playing extra numbers in defence and outnumbering our talls. It's the old sucker-punch counter-attack gameplan and we're falling for it. Especially as our crumbers and ground level players not doing anything either. We've had enough of the play going forward but we've kicked just one goal in the last 45 mins. You don't win games if you can't kick goals.
-
I think Edwards, Batch, Morris, Vlas really need to provide more.
I just don't like the lack of skills Batch has... :-\
We need to lift across the board though, stop the panic, get back to controlling the game and winning the ball..
-
Knew the umpiring cocksuckery was gonna start up sooner or later. Hope we gonna go berserk in the second half and put these afl darlings out of my misery.
-
3rd quarter is the premiership qtr gents. Lets hope we can turn it up onto their sorry backsides
-
Very poor 2nd half of that 2nd qtr
Lost the plot, panic disposal, panic decisions
Probably the first time in 9 weeks we've got something to lose and the boys are feeling mental pressure. We're not putting score on the board to relieve that pressure so it's building.
We need to mix it up and lower our eyes going forward. The kick to Dusty (the one he then kicked OOTF) was the only time I can remember us not blinding bombing it deep to Swan defenders. Also play Griffs high forward as he can boot long goals. Don't let the Swan defenders fall back into their comfort zone waiting for predictable long bombs.
-
3rd quarter is the premiership qtr gents. Lets hope we can turn it up onto their sorry backsides
It's been our sleep time for most of the year :P. Mind you the past two weeks against Adelaide and St Kilda we've played well in the 3rd quarters.
-
Yeah if we can get it to Griff on the fifty it should be enough to get him some shots on goal ffs, ill back him in for some big Jim Jess style cruise missiles .
-
let it slip then, had a chance to ram it home, one silly unforced error and its game on, they lifted immediately. This team only needs a sniff.

That wasn't holding the ball against Cotch ::).

It can never simple at Richmond. We just need to create a debacle.

How many times have Tigers gone to ground at crucial moments? Got to be better and keep your feet. It's allowing the Swans to coast out of our back-half.
Goal to the Swans :banghead.

Pathetic

Newman, all that experience shows for nothing, dumb error, should be doing much more to show leadership but just not up to it. Shouldn't be playing next year.

The Class of Sydney is rising to the occasion.
Thank Goodness Pettard has been subbed off. His a liability and gives away frees.
Why did Newman not take the ball out by getting tackled. Take the tackle.
-
Reckon we've been terribly out coached in this qtr
-
Cotch no free for a blatant high shot ::).
-
NO FREE COTCH.. :huh :huh :huh :huh :huh
-
Cotch gets stuffing flipped head first into the turf while trying to Mark, No free, you tell me these stuffing wankers aren't full of poo
-
We have stopped running, we are losing the clearances, they are sheparding, winning the frees...its not looking good.
-
Reckon we've been terribly out coached in this qtr
Out coached since midway of first qtr. Once Longmire put a spare (Reid) behind the ball and Rampe on Jack, Dimma has had no answer.
-
Cotch no free for a blatant high shot ::).
In Sydney the rules are modified for the NRL crowd. You are allowed to throw and tackle around the shoulders.
-
LOL a miracle, we got a free near our goals!
-
Goodness 50 metres
May go in 3qtr time in front :gobdrop
-
Finally get a holding free.
-
Free kicks since 27 min mark of 2nd quarter -
SYDNEY 10
RICHMOND 1

If Lids can slot this. We still have a lead and need to regroup at the break for the last quarter.

Lids nearly got a spinal injury and Jack got mugged behind play for it too

MORRIS.... :banghead :banghead :banghead

Morris this time OOTF. The goals aren't in the pockets Tiges.

Morris needs to work on his kicking over the summer. Not just out on the full there but earlier in the game going into 50 he missed targets.

Sydney 2.1 4.3 7.6-48
Goals: Reiwoldt 3, Deledio 3, Miles, Gordon,

Watch the umpies put the whistles away in the fourth and let the Swans get away with murder
-
No excuses here.
A team that has everything to play for should beat a team that has nothing to play for every time.
We have more experience than them and should stand up.
The coach has been smashed today and needs to lift and the leaders need to lead.
Otherwise nothing has been learnt out of the finals last year and that would be the worst crime of all.
-
Morris needs to work on his kicking over the summer. Not just out on the full there but earlier in the game going into 50 he missed targets.
Didn't think it will make any difference. What we see is what we've got
Would actually go as far as to say that if we are to really improve, take the next step then someone like Morris shouldn't be in our best 22. Reckon there isn't room for any improvement in his game :outtahere
-
Yeah well lets all hope now, I just hope we have the legs and composure. I think Hardwick needs to come up with something different. Maybe have Chappy drift forward and bag a couple..... :-\
We cant beat them they way we are going, must get the clearances too... :gotigers
-
Swans just a bit slicker around the stoppages, we just can't seem to find space and when we do go inside 50 we simply fall over, really need to find that classy small forward next season., will make a big difference, unless Lloyd can step up.
-
I thought it was their set up behind the play that is getting us. Whenever we do get it forward it is straight into their hands.
-
Got to say can't believe how relaxed I feel
Haven't yelled at the idiot box once
I'm yelling my head off. Even the dog doesn't want to be in the same room as me :-\
It's the advantage of not going in with any real expectation of the game. What will be will be
My 3 dogs are inside with me sound asleep. Fair to say they're very content ;D
-
We're not going to win but hoping our goals come from frees. We haven't generated a goal from clear play since the first qtr. The game is still following the pattern of round 14 (Swans hit the front but we regain the lead just before 3/4 time). The match is going the way Sydney wants it. Dimma and the on-field leaders need to turn things around for us to win. That's going to take hard-running and winning the contests.

But out Umpire.
-
terrible turnover by Gordon AGAIN!
:banghead
-
:banghead
-
Gordon you've got to do better than that. Turned a good attack into a bad turnover that will cost us a goal. Lucky that missed.
59 - 49
-
all or nothing - no excuses - had this game and have stupidly allowed them to play their brand of footy to get back into it. Why on earth do you allow them to play a spare man especially malceski who has the biggest metres gained in the afl.
like TBR said, we have everything to play for - no excuses
-
terrible turnover by Gordon AGAIN!
:banghead
should of kicked it infront of them goal side.

Miles two gusty acts draws frees.

Stupid turnovers, will never push for top 4 until we get that out of our game :banghead

-
Bad miss by Sheds that one
-
Sydney have been coast to coast twice now in a row. Then and just before from Gordan turn over. We need to stop that for the rest of the game.
-
Good play by Ellis and Miles. Gordon finds Flossy 50m out. Rushed.
61 - 49
-
Draw is on :clapping ;D
-
Another miss. We need to at least score one soon to keep up score board pressure. Who knows if we get a bit of a gap Sydney might drop off to save themselves a injury for the finals.

How good do all the supporters & RFC feel tonight. :santa
That was so intense & even the umpires could not derail us on our journey to the finals. YES I DID SAY FINALS. l seriously never gave the club any chance of making it & they have proved the doubters wrong including most of us.
Party up people cause the Finals start next week & we are looking for another win. :gotigers
-
Great win for the club, the players the coach and the supporters. First time back to back finals since the 70's. Hardwick has saved himself over the last 9 weeks. Well done to him.
-
Never more happy to be wrong. I wrote us off and doubted whether Hardwick was the man.
What an incredible effort by the playing group. I don't even care about next week. The efforts after 3 and 10 have made this season a success. We came from where no team GS been before and made finals.
A proud proud Tiger tonight.
Alex Rance can have a key to the club. All Aus defender
-
We still have to improve a lot IMHO but making finals 2 years in a row is massively important for our club, it means we are starting to break the cycle of mediocrity ... the challenge is how do we go from being a 7th 8th team to a top 4 team and then winning the flag. There is still plenty of improvement that has to be made.
-
Massive just massive
From where we were, to storm home and make back to back finals for the first time in however long is fairytale stuff. We are now a team to be reckoned with. The players and coaches as a whole lifted their professionalism, motivation and work ethic just so happy for them that they got rewarded for it. Now go on with it and knock port out then absolutely give it to Boak the sore loser
-

Just got back from the game and I have to say it was right up there as one of the best Tiger experiences I have ever had! I took my My 10 yr old son with me and he said to me "Gee its great being a Tiger Fan!" I said to him that this game will be something that he will remember forever. At the end of the game surrounded by fellow tiger supporters and all of us belting out our club song was an unbelievable feeling!
This is the first time ever that the number 9 has been kind to us
9 Wins and Finals bound! You little friggin beauty!!!!!!!
-
Special mention to Ellis for that tackle on Goodes and game saving marks to Rance, Chaplin and Griffiths in the final minutes.
-
Burst into tears I did
I genuinely cried as well
Happy to admit I did to! With about 30 seconds left can't even remember who took the mark but the tears started flowing!! What a Unbelievable ride this season has been! And to think after the start if the year we had we're only one win away from an improvement on last season :)
-
This is the first time ever that the number 9 has been kind to us
Bit harsh on Cotch there tiga! ;D
-
Hate to crash the party but Newman was a stuffing liability again.
just a stuffn idiot when he's kicking in from the backline.
His slowness caused more than one goal to the swans.
Make him a sub if he's that important but he seriously wont be missed

Personally I'm still lamenting Ellis' pathetic effort on Giansiracusa. That's really where the 4 points we're looking for tomorrow went.
Plenty of scenarios that let us down, think it's a bit stiff to stick to one that a young player made. Got sucked in by a smart experienced player
Credit where it's due - more than made up for it today with his tackle on Goodes.
-
Pump up the tyres we're off the Radlaide to punch on with those feral port mongrels..
-
I agree ox
Newman was awful. What was he doing keeping the ball in...
-
I watched the match at the Wantirna club.
What a bunch of ferals.
Loved every moment, had to stand up near the bar :cheers .
A great experience, I will go back there again.

I went to the skinny dog in Kew and made them turn all their screens to the Richmond game! The place was electric and full of Tiger tragics!
-
I was at the Sandy pub, when ricmond did anything good the place went feral, when sydney kicked a goal you could hear a pin drop.
While we were excellent i thought Cotch was cruelled and could gave had more support.
Only 4 to go!!
-
The defence was fantastic. Grimes played a blinder as did Rance. Grimes destroyed Goodes when he was on him. Thought Chaplin was good. Morris and Batch were solid. Maric, Miles and even Grigg and Edwards were good contributors. Lids and Jack were brilliant. Martin rose to the occasion. Cotch tried his guts out. Only disappointing players for me were Newman and Petterd.

Robbo is now on the Tiger bandwagon ....
LIKES
1. Richmond.
Alex Rance aside, the Tigers were spine-tingling. Kicked 5.3 to 2.1 in the first quarter and hung on for dear life. The beauty wasn’t the victory alone, it was victory after being headed by Sydney in the final quarter. The Tigers did not die. There were hundreds of moments. Ellis’ tackle, Chaplin’s mark, Griffiths’ mark, Jack’s goals, Maric in the ruck, Deledio everywhere and even Jake Batchelor’s cool head at the end. On behalf of most footy fans: thank you Richmond, for the wild ride — thus far.

Brandon's stupidly long tackle was way worse.
Yep stupid and very very soft
Sorry but how is it soft? He went for the tackle and Hannebery was allowed to just let it go. Sure Ellis held on to long but not sure how that makes it soft

Yeah that's why they didn't go in hard until the last quarter. They were clearly trying to not get injured in the first half and a bit. Richmond was crashing in hard ::)
-
I think it's fair to say, it was an enjoyable win but hardly emphatic.
-
Even without a handful of choice players they're a tough unit at home. They have a lot more depth than us. Blokes at their club would walk into our 22 even if they can't get a game in the H&A season for the Swans.

Yep look at Gordon. Not good enough for them and gets cut but for us he's our best permanent medium forward option.
-
In the past, final round games with finals on the line would result on a 10 goal+ flogging with us not giving a yelp from the first bounce. I'd take a win anyday and anyhow over a repeat of last round of 1994, '96, '98 & 2000 :P.

Slowly pushing our nightmare back. Some day it'll be the grandy that we butcher.
Like whoa baby, patience.
-
IMO it was an awesome win.
We had the most to loose so the game had a massive baring which as someone else said in the past we would have blown it.
The game was played on the road which makes it an even better win.
Sure they had some players out but I don't think anyone thinks we are as good as them with both teams at full strength but with them having a few out it made the two teams very even and as I said, we had much more to loose from a lose.
IMO they had a real go at winning the game, we took the early lead, they fought back and then we fought again. I was so proud of the effort we showed that night, not only because it was a must win but because of the type of footy played and the way we found a way to win.

Great post BT :thumbsup

Don't under estimate our attempt at losing either with all those out on the full's :banghead
