bg25 saying we're doing ok. Had our chances but falling down up forward with lack of marking targets. Lots of quick handball. We've got the breeze in the 2nd quarter.

Hyde had a lot of it. So too Jackson, Howat through the midfield. Cogs has had about 6 touches by the sound of it. Got more of it towards the end of that quarter. Defence shakey by the sound of it. Silvester has had a game to forget so far.

Rance to Keogh through the centre. Fort Caruso marks. misses.

JON tried a hip and shoulder on Street and Street didn't move  :lol

Comedy of errors a few minutes ago. Higgins of Willy kicks it OOTF. Graham has a shot and kicks it OOTF on the other pocket and hands it back to Higgins.

Putt may be injured too (leg) or he copped on in the family jewels. Not feeling well and he's off.

Willy point. Silvester then steps on the line on the kick-out. From the ball-up 10m out Willy goal.

25 - 34

Miller and Paul Armstrong have gone into the rooms to check on Petts. They'll try to get some news at half-time.

Game opening up but a heap of turnovers overusing the handball, poor decison making and dropping marks  :banghead. Kick to kick between half-back lines.

Putt back on. Into time on.

Gazzo roving goal.

31 - 36

LOL. Rance had to kick the goal on his left but ha no left so gave it to Tivs on his right who has no right but he kicked the goal anyway. Carnell winning a couple of centre clearances. Coburg in front.

Goals: Hyde, Cartledge, Graham, Gazzo, Tivs
Title: Re: Coburg vs Williamstown
Post by: one-eyed on July 20, 2008, 03:18:49 PM
Coburg's pressure has been good and they've got enough of the ball but disposal has been awful overusing it and the defence especially Silvester have made dumb goal costing errors.

Hard to find best players listening to the radio as it's always "Coburg have the ball but it's another turnover". Graham sounds like he doing alright.

Ryan O'Connor on Double X

* Frustrating year. Up and down. Please they have turned up today.

* Missed Tivs last week. Travelled to Perth last week. Collins getting plenty of the ball as is Cogs and Jackson. Didn't use the breeze well and Rawlings will be talking about that in the rooms.

* Young talent is coming through. Edwards, Moore, etc now playing at Richmond.

* Got to play better footy and use the ball better.

* Club has good depth. Ressies undefeated. Played 21 of the Coburg players so far. Continuity hasn't helped but playing all these players helps with depth in the long run and approaching the finals.

* Rawlings provides an intimate knowledge of Richmond so the young guys know what's expected in the way they play when they are promoted to Richmond.

* Affiliation allows VFL players to put their hand up to be picked up by AFL clubs and for AFL listed players to push for selection.

* A few major sponsor annoucements over the past few months. Facilities is something that needs addressing. Bridging the gap between the elite AFL facilities and the VFL. Of course Richmond got $6.25m for Punt Rd.

3rd quarter has started. Willy point.

38 - 43

bg25 says it's very scrappy. Best Burgers are non-RFC. Best RFC players are Tivs, JON, Connors, Meyer.

39 - 63

Coburg has lost it's structure and going indirect and stuffing up.

Hyde to Jackson to Putt 20m out on the boundary. Best passage of play by Coburg. Longer handball.

Goal to Putt from the pocket. Good goal from a tough pocket.

Title: 3QT: Coburg down by 7

3/4 time

Coburg  3.6    5.8   9.11-65
Willy     4.3    6.6   10.11-71

Goals: Tivs 2, Shelton 2, Hyde, Cartledge, Graham, Gazzo, Putt

Still making errors but a decent enough last 10 minutes to keep it close. Good crowd. Wind more swirly than favouring one end strongly. A 1-2 goal advantage.

Good defensive efforts. Collins run down tackle and then a smother but a burger.

Daniel Jackson interview on Double X:

* We set ourselves to have a hard pressure game. Attack the man, attack the game. Gameplan works when we do that. Didn't do it last week and got flogged. Did it today and won knocking off the top side. Hopefully keep it up and play finals.

* Good to be back last week despite the loss. Good to find form today and hopes to get himself back up into the Richmond side although he loves down at Coburg. A good side.

-------------------------
Commentators saying the difference tis week was Coburg win it out of the centre and the Coburg forwards finally played in front with Carnell leading the way in that area.

Title: Re: Coburg vs Williamstown
Post by: one-eyed on July 20, 2008, 05:01:42 PM
Rawlings:

* Last week our most disappointing effort against Port Melbourne. This week we they demonstrated the effort required.

* Midfield was outstanding. Hyde did a good job shutting down their best mid. Cartledge and Graham got on top in the ruck over Peter Street and their other ruckman as the game went along. Didn't need Putt in the ruck today so played him forward.

* Cogs is a real talent. Coming back from a long way back. Good to get another game out of him today.

* Howat - been involved in the coaches box at Coburg as he's been out for a while. Really happy with him today.

* Topsy-turvy year where we win like today whereas we've also been flogged by Port. Made the coaching stressful at times.

* Petts - looked severe. Jade said he is close to Petts. Doesn't look good. We'll respect him and support him in the coming days.

* Improvement - consistency is the challenge. They have it in then but it's a week to week thing.

* JON - shakey start but pivotal to us for the rest of the game. Likable character and he wants to see Jarryd be the best he can be.

Mate, he can push all he wants as far as I am concerned, he was terrible last week and in my opinion he wont make it, Should be delisted or traded( good luck) at years end.

Lovely day by the bay  :rollin

It was freezing, the ressies were great and seniors excellent.

Last 5-10 minutes, the Rance spoil between the wing & and the Coburg HFF as Willy was surging forward that went 15 metres and resulted in a boundary line throw in was inspiring.

To back it up less than I reckon 2 minutes later with a big strong contested mark was sensational. Going to be a player IMO, but please let's give him time  :clapping

Very happy for Danny Meyer - his defensive pressure today was very good. Really impressed with his chasing, seems to have his pace back

Why is it when JON has a good game for Coburg, automatically he is pushing for a spot at the tigers.

He is a good VFL player thats it. He doesnt have the footy smarts to make it in the afl, much like tivendale.

Both are and will be great servants of the Coburg FC and i never want to see either play for the tigers.

Ahhh Daniel, I need to point this out. Ummmm Tivendale has already played 187 games at AFL Level for the Tigers. To me, thats making it in the AFL or at least it was the last time I checked. So in actual fact Tivendale has been a servant for Richmond far, far more than he ever will be for Coburg. Oh and by the way, as has been already pointed out, Jezza's original comment was in two parts. He didn't say JON was pushing for selection. I think he was referring to the likes of Collins and Rance or maybe one of the ruck duo. But as usual You and Jackstar are far too quick to tear peoples posts apart or rejig them as a vehicle for yet another negative spray. Probably Jack more than you but there are parallels.

mate you should give away writing on football forums ,because you have no idea what your writing about.
jon does have the footy smarts ,and is quite a clever player.
but just needs to mature more as a person and get mentally tougher ,but it will happen maybe with the tigers or another club.
as for tivendale hes a life member of the tigers which as a player you only get if you have been on the list for 10 years ,so l would say he has the footy smarts wouldnt you.

Yep Willy is a great place to walk around in mid-July  ;D

Danny Meyer: I don't know MT, I think he needs some more games in him. But it is a nice change to see him moving freely and obviously fully fit, rather than labouring around like he did last year. If he keeps going the way he is at the moment I reckon Danny would be a chance of game in the last couple of weeks

Connors: Good 1st half, super 2nd half. They directed alot of play through him in the 3rd & 4th because of his good disposal. Has great disposal when he is on song :clapping

Ta WP. Good hear Danny is finally injury free and starting to play some good footy - 3 weeks in a row now. Shame about DC doing a hammy. He would be next in after Richo if anyone was dropped.

I see there's no Burgers game this weekend due to the split round. Does anyone know if they are going to give the RFC boys who don't play against Brisbane the week off or is there a practice match or some kind? Unfortunate timing for Kingy and Rainesy to be back from injury and they have to wait another week.

Match Report Vs. Williamstown
coburgtigers.com.au
By Glenn Robertson

Coburg were heavy underdogs heading into Sundays match as they had lost their previous couple of games and were up against ladder leaders Williamstown. After a very tight first three quarters that saw the score seesaw either way on many occasions it was the Burgers who pulled of a blinder of a last quarter to run away with a brilliant eighteen point victory.

The boys got off to a healthy start and could have had the lead at the first change had they not missed a couple of relatively easy shots on goal.

Daniel Jackson was fantastic all day and used his big body to hit the packs and take multiple contested marks. Daniel really stepped up to the plate this week, and was a key ingredient to the Burgers win.

¼ Time: Coburg 3.6 (24)   Williamstown 4.3 (27)

Neither side could get a break on the other in second term, as both teams defensive units stood tall. Only two goals apiece were scored for the term. Jade Rawlings was proud of his men who had put up a great battle in the first half, but everyone knew there was still plenty of football left to be played.

Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls stood up in the big game and played his best match of the season, his speed and creativity excited supporters from both sides.

½ Time: Coburg 5.8 (38)   Williamstown 6.6 (42)

Both sides came out fired up after the main break and the level of exciting football increased. Each side kicked four majors for the term, which left the game in balance for a great finish. Tristan Cartlidge was brilliant in the ruck and gave his on baller’s first use of the footy out of the middle and around the stoppages; he was well supported from Dean Putt who also contributed on the scoreboard with two goals.

Greg Tivendale was again simply superb for the Tigers. His left foot has to be one of the most lethal weapons in the VFL, and on Sunday it was on fire as he kicked another four goals in a near best on performance. Come finals time his personal performances will help determine how far the Burgers go.

¾ Time: Coburg 9.11 (65)   Williamstown 10.11 (71)

It was neck and neck all day, and the boys came in at three quarter time knowing they had they chance to pull of a big upset against the top team. And that they did! A fantastic last quarter effort saw the Burgers have their best last term for the year. The boys kicked seven goals, and kept the Seagulls to only three. Celebrations were had by all Coburg supporters post game, after a fantastic result for both sides.

The Burgers eighth win of the season sees them one game clear in sixth spot, while a win next week could see them overtake Werribee in fifth position. The Burgers have a well deserved week off this weekend as it is a split round.

Coburg Tigers   3.6 5.8 9.11 16.14 (110)
Williamstown    4.3 6.6 10.11 13.14 (92)

Best Players: D. Jackson, J. Oakley-Nicholls, T. Cartledge, G. Tivendale, C. Howat, D. Meyer

RESERVES

It was the biggest match of the season in the reserves and a large crowd turned up early to witness it. Both teams were undefeated going into the game with twelve wins apiece. However it was the ferocious Burgers who showed their class and came away with a great victory and created a great vibe and atmosphere to start of the day. In the first quarter the boys kicked eight straight goals, to the Seagulls two.

From there on it was a more even contest with the Burgers coming away with a fifty-one point victory. It was simply a brilliant team effort with all players contributing and playing their part for the team.

Coburg Tigers  8.0 11.2 15.11 19.14 (128)
Williamstown   2.0  5.6   6.8      11.11 (77)

I see there's no Burgers game this weekend due to the split round. Does anyone know if they are going to give the RFC boys who don't play against Brisbane the week off or is there a practice match or some kind? Unfortunate timing for Kingy and Rainesy to be back from injury and they have to wait another week.

Just read in the local paper "The Mail" that Willy and Coburg are going to play a praccy game this Friday at 4.00pm at Willy
Ta WP. I can't make it but good to hear we'll get a chance to get games into those that need to boost their match-fitness. Is anyone going?

Any news if any of RFC guys played today in the Coburg vs Willy praccy match? Hopefully everyone got through okay.
