Are you
- keen on using your crystal ball to forecast the future
- having your best guess put on record to look like a goose later
- determined to build up optimism just so you can be let down in a big way at a future date
- want to be ridiculed for having a stab in the dark
If so put your 2009 placings here based on the recently released draw

will post my ladder predction later on, but I do feel that North will have a shocker next season.
Seem to have been hanging on with no real stars and after Laidley put a couple of their better players firmly in the shop window I think morale will be pretty low. Danerous times for them and the Dees with the competition expanding, the financial situation restricting sponsorship and draft picks at a premium.

I reckon we'll have a red hot year, luck with injuries and a lot of other teams dropping off.
I think the Dogs will come back to the pack. Of the 3 dominant teams in 2008 they are the easiest to reel in.
17-5
This could come back to haunt me :lol
-
If we maintain our form from this year but simply improve against the teams who were 5th-8th then we'll go a long way to making the finals.
1-4th was pretty good and 9th-16th was good, it was 5th-8th that killed us and we play a fair few games against them in 2009

Unless we take a good step forward and a few of these other sides slide a little, I can't see us winning more than 12 games.

I assumed Carlton and interstate sides like Freo and Port at home will improve whereas North, Sydney, Saints and Pies will drop back to the pack.

12-10 after a tough start :-\ so it'll come down to percentage :-\.
IMO sides between 4th and 14th aren't that far away from each other so things like momentum and injuries will have a big say in where all will finish. We are still a long long way from being a real contender even if we do make the finals next year.

12 WINS 10 LOSSES
I'm hoping we will build on last year's form and win the close games against teams such as the dogs which would increase our wins to 13 or 14. Realistically, besides Geelong, I think we could beat anyone on a good day.
TW should also be safe by the supposed round 12 decision time on his contract with, going on my predictions, 7 wins and 5 losses.
Shapes as an exciting year :)

So I've put them into an excell spreadsheet which calculates the difference between your prediction and the real table.
i.e. if you pick the tigers to finish 7th and we finish top you get 6 points. 9 points if we finish 16th. Add it up for all teams. Obviously lowest score wins.
If you took last years ladder then it would look like this
Chuck17 - 28pts
Jake - 28pts
tigersalive - 48 pts
MT - 50 pts
wayne - 58 pts
If you took the ladder from two seasons ago
wayne - 56 pts
tigersalive - 58 pts
Jake - 72 pts
MT - 76 pts
Chuck17 - 78 pts
There'll be bonus points subtracted for correctly predicting Grand final winners, coleman medallist, brownlow, Rising Star, Jack Dyer, NAB cup winners but there is no need to rush - just add them when you have time. At the midseason point there will be an opportunity to swap the positions of two of your teams.
Would be good to get a few more posters involved - its a fun comp where its all done by the time the season starts so no need to worry about getting punished for not getting tips in on time every week or anything.

Sounds like something worth reflecting on in a year, jake, just to see how crazy or realistic our thoughts were. ;D :thumbsup

-
NAB: Port (we never seem interested and get knocked out in the first round anyway :P )
Yeah we usually do but I wouldn't be surprised to see a more determined effort this year.
The reason why is that with the start of the draw in the first 6 rounds it might be a lean period, and Terry might want some early success albeit in the NAB cup to build up his chips before the start of the season proper and the worst part of the draw which IMO is the first six rounds.
Now that I said that we will probably get smacked soundly and look disinterested as we usually do ;D
-
I hope so too Chuck. It's a different game with the trial rules in the preseason comp but getting knocked out in the first round and in such woeful fashion as we have been in recent years hardly builds confidence or attracts non-member supporters to sign up.

The Swans are slowly losing their premiership players with Tadhg Kennelly apparently confirming 2009 will be his final year. If not this year hopefully by 2010 it will one less side we'll have to worry about with them in the bottom 8.

I'll never forget back around xmas 2002 I was in Listowel visitng a mate when a mate of his introduced himself.
"Hi my name is Tadgh, I live in Sydney"
The penny didn't really drop, but you have to remember he was in the media an awful lot back then and you had heard of him even if you didn't know what he looked like. A minute later my mate told me it was Tadgh Kennelly
I was struck by his unassuming character then and it certainly seemed that footy didn't change him too much over the years either. One of the good guys IMHO.

After one game Fishfinger's table is closest to the current table although these standings will probably vary wildly until everything settles down. Tuckerbag was the only one who tipped Geelong for the NAB cup so he picks up -5 bonus points. Yours truly is going pretty ordinary.

I would've dropped down the order this week. The Saints look reinvigorated this year. Even Kosi is playing well and not injuring himself. As for us I tipped us to lose our first 3 yet still make the finals so everything is going to plan ;D.

Earlier in the year 14 OER posters ave their predictions (mods - search functionality seems hit and miss, lots of timeouts) for the ladder as well as other things such as NAB Cup, Coleman, Rising Star, Brownlow etc. The idea was to add up the difference between your predicted finish for each team and then subtract 5 points for each of the other things you got right.
For interests sake, here are the results with the ladder complete
GOOHUC - 44
WP - 44
Jake - 48
Fishfinger - 52
Chuck17 - 56
Moi - 60
MT - 64
mat073 - 65
Tuckerbag - 72
Stripes - 74
Jacosh - 76
tigersalive - 78
wayne - 78
Bene Boy - 84
After bonus points
GOOHUC - 39 (Fevola Coleman)
WP - 44
Fishfinger - 47 (Fevola Coleman)
Jake - 48
Chuck17 - 51 (Fev coleman)
Moi - 60

Tuckerbag - 67 (Geelong NAB cup)
mat073 - 65
Stripes - 74
Jacosh - 76
tigersalive - 78
wayne - 78
Bene Boy - 84
GOOHUC in poll position but tipped a Richmond flag with Cotchin snaring both the Jack Dyer medal and Brownlow. Fishfinger and WP have the safer looking bets of Geelong, Ablett brownlow and Deledio JD. Fishfinger also has sure-thing Rich in the rising star though and could come from nowhere to win ;D

I think the search function experiences time-out gremlins now and then :-\. It's working fine again right now.
I've found the original thread Jake and merged your post so people can look back at what they predicted ;D.

Humble pie anyone ?
I had St Kilda finishing 10th,Brisbane 15th and Adelaide missing the finals too.
Is it too late to go back and modify my selections ? -especially the team I had finishing 3rd :help
