Title: Dear Selection Committee
Post by: TigerLand on March 24, 2011, 11:05:21 PM
If Angus Graham plays another game for this football club I'll neck myself.

In fact I'll donate to the FTF $100 for every game he plays in the 2s.

He was torn a new arshole the size of the Grand Canyon...

I think Graham hurt his leg early in the match.

That said post or derickx or browne need
to show form in the 2s. And griffiths is missed

The problem with Gus is if he cops an injury it takes him a while to regain some semblance of form. He missed most of the preseason with an ankle so he's underdone. The problem we have as a team is Derickx missed the last few practice games and Browne is still young and questionable so we don't have much of a choice with our rucks. It'll be a weakness for a while unless we use free agency to poach a quality ruckman which is what most of the top sides have done.

I'm not too upset with the team selected. Some people after the game were saying Tuck should have played if we were playing our best side but I'd rather have kids out there as Tuck isn't going to get any better and fix his deficiencies at his age. We've just got to suck it up for now and use what we've got and hope in time a few more cubs come through and step up and our recruiters find and add far more class to the team.

I'm sick of Gus and his chances, I hate slagging our players off but Gus is a local footballer at best.

Our ruck stocks are horrible. Every club in the league would have 2 ruckman on their list better than Gus. Gus wouldn't be in the top 30 ruckman in the country. Our stocks are so thin we're just forced to play him, he doesn't warrant selection except we just have to play someone that is 190cm+ in their, and I suppose Gus will do.. Sorry Gus.

Derickx to play 21 games this year for mine.

Yeah agree MT I'm happy with the side bar our ruck selection of course.

Angus needs a miracle to stay on the list next year, an absolute miracle. A stupid call in round 1, but I think everyone would agree.

At this stage Gus won't be delisted because he is the oldest ruckman on the list

at 23 or so yoa. We'd be left with browne and vickery who are more or lees teenaged and Derickx not yet player afl

Unless we recruit a ready-made replacement next summer and Derickx bypasses Gus as our No.1 ruckman this year he'll be staying. Rucks really only get the stuff if there are two others ahead of them. 2012 will be Gus' test to survive with free agency enabling us to poach an experienced quality ruckman.

Angus will not be playing next year, unless miracle improvement.

Derickx can play and will surpass Gus this year for starters.

Even if he doesn't you can't have your ruck stocks so weak two years in a row. Our ruck stocks will be number 1 priority next year I guarantee it.

Gold Coast have better ruck stocks than us already in Fraser, Smith and Day.

I can think of some worse ruckmen that have donned the RFC guernsey.

Ty Esler
Robert Schaefer
Brad Smith

He is struggling and we are struggling the ruck dept. If Derickx is fit maybe we should bite the bullet. :thumbsup

I think someone like Edwards should be sought by the selection commitee and have his shoulder tapped and told he'll be in the twos. Was poor tonight and has been poor during the pre season.

Something has gone backwards in Edwards which is a shame had a very good year last year.

I don't know the answer. I hope Hardwick does.

i thought i saw him click in the 2nd half so to speak. tightened up and went hard at it and spreading well. Didnt he have his shoulder done early in the preseason? Just a touch thing i feel - expect him to be
 better next week

I must of watched a different game of footy as I thought Angus was pretty good tonight.

One of the reasons we got back into the game and he kicked a nice goal....what more do you want from a developing ruckman.

I still believe he is a "work in progress" though.

Agree with Tuckerbag. Esler and Estaugh were far worse. Still have nightmares about Esler

Ohh there are so many but here's just ONE

I'd love to see is Gus actually watch the ball at centre bounces rather than his opponent.

As staggering as it may seem when he actually concentrates on the ball & watches the bloody thing he actually has an impact and wins more contests. His constant looking at his opponent costs us in a massive way

Want me to go on

Sorry Gus isnt up to it.
Warnock is a hack and he belted Gus last night at centre bounces
Thus Carltons dominaces at the clearances
I wish supporters would actually watch the game of footy

As per other thread Foley was about to poo himself last night on the field, Hardwick admit he shouldn't have played as he had gastro.

Derickx would have debuted last night if he didn't bruise his heel. I think the big question is does the selection committee have Derickx run around in the 2's for a week to gain fitness, or throw him in underdone for Gus. I think even if he was underdone we would get better service then what Gus provides. He just doesn't contest!!  :banghead

Gus is one of the softest big men I have ever seen play the game. Every time he cops a knock he's on the ground whinging. Suck it up, you're a stuffing adonis and little blokes make you look weak  :banghead Would rather see Kepler Bradley running around for us :help Bring in TRex next week.

If someone throws me a stat about what Dean Cox or Jolly were doing at Gus' age then I will (as Wallet would say) "spew up"

I'd do anything to have Ray Hall back lol.

;D Now there was a bloke who gave it his best  ;D

Thats what struck me about his game last night, after initial ruck contest, stands where he lands, flat footed and spreads his arms out.

I also know for a fact that he has a very low pain tolerance.

When derrickx is fit he will take his spot.

I can't wait until Derrickx gets fit and takes over the ruck. Graham is a useless sook and makes it soooo hard for our mids to complete on a level playing field. One effort early in the game summed it up for me - ball was in Carlton's backline and they had possession. Graham was running away from the ball (he was the perfect distance to be in the contest from the kick) looking towards our defenders yelling and flapping his useless arms. He ran for about 100mts doing this, not turning to look at the ball once, and the ball just kept following him up the ground until it came in to their CHF spot and caught Graham
unaware when he finally turned around. Needless to say, Carlton got possession and scored (can't recall if it was a goal or not) but it was a shocking example of someone who had no clue or desire for the contest.   :banghead

I have watched the replay again and I must say that the dominance of the Carlton Ruckman was very telling. The amount of easy hitouts to advantage the Carlton midfield received was bordering on the ridiculous. Our mids were second guessing every hit out which imediately puts them behind the eightball so to speak. I thought that Vickery's Ruck work was better then Grahams when he played on the ball and at least he was a marking target. I would play Vickery as our first ruck and bring in Post as our second Ruckman/Forward. They are both young and we will still be disadvantaged but the experience they will get will benefit us in the long run.

Graham is clearly not a AFL standard Ruckman and never will be!
