Shane Tuck, who came into the side for his first match since the round 10 loss to Port Adelaide, was among the Tigers' best, finishing with 32 possessions and five clearances in a display that pleased his coach.

Hardwick defended his decision to leave Tuck on the sidelines, citing team balance as the crucial factor as to why the 29-year old has managed just five games this season despite eye-catching performances in the VFL.

"It's more about trying to get the best fit for the side. Obviously with the amount of midfielders we have going through there, it's just a matter of you can't have too many inside midfielders," he said.

"At the end of the day 'Tucky' played his role today and did it very well. But with [Dustin] Martin, [Trent] Cotchin and [Nathan] Foley, which one do I leave out?"

"But 'Tucky' to his credit has been a star. The way he accepts things, he knows where he is at and he comes in and he performed a very good role today."

TRANSLATION

I hate Tuck and only played the rat today because i basically had to.

Now that he's shoved it up my accountant ars in front of everyone,i guess I'll be forced to play him for the rest of the year *looks at ground and shakes head*

I wanna let the members and fans know that I WILL play him out of position and hopefully i wont look like such a clueless, bias prick of a dog come seasons end and will have justified my faux reasoning for omitting him all year.

Dimma gives Posty one game and drops him, but he keeps playing his favorites like Jackson and Edwards.
Newman and Batchelor (shoulder )wont play in 2 weeks time.
White has knee issues.
Jackson has a hammy

also 3 kicks to Jake King and 3 kicks to Morton for a game played at Etihad, should be instant dropping

RICHMOND - Herald-Sun barometer

ON THE BLOCK: Shane Edwards came on early as the sub against Geelong but had little impact while ruckman Angus Graham was beaten by Cats third-stringer Trent West. Daniel Jackson is badly out of form but it’s hard to see him being dropped.

ON THE CUSP: Jayden Post, Jeromey Webberly, Mitch Farmer, Matt Dea.

AL PATON’S FORECAST: The big concern is the knee injury to skipper Chris Newman. The Tigers say they are hopeful he will be back for “the last portion of the season” - not sure exactly what that means, but he seems certain to miss to the trip west to play West Coast after the bye. Young defender Matt Dea is a chance to replace him while ruck workhorse Andrew Browne will be available to return. Plenty of Tigers are on thin ice after a horror month but there aren’t many bashing the door down at Coburg. Jayden Post is one who is likely to get a chance to establish a senior spot.

We must play Griffiths and Post for the rest of the year. Post to do the ruck duties for mine with big Griff developing in the forward line learning how to play next to Jack.

Why bother playing Post in the ruck when chances are next year we'll have a few actual ruckmen available?

Settle the kid down in a position or he'll become the new Schulzzz.

Duds and Gerks...have I ever said what handsome men you two are.  :eyebrow

I'd love to see McDonald get a spot along with Dea. Post should play in the backline but it would have to be at the expense of Thursfield or McGuane who I felt were reasonable on the weekend under heavy pressure. McDonald doesn't probably deserve a spot but he may actually step up under the conditions and, at the very least, it would give him an idea of the standard he needs to reach to make it.

Agree, footy is too professional to carry guys. These two are clanger kings, opposition tactics revolve around making sure these guys don't have easy disposals, put them under pressure and they shank kicks, choose bad options and in Edwards case in particular kick grubber worm burners, averging about 1 a game.

With the amount of opposition analysis, its actually a tactic to let these guys roam free to allow them to get easy possession only to harress them with pressure and force a turn over. Happens every week. Its hurting our team having them in the side.

must be time to drop the dropkick Rewoldt. they have used every excuse for him from hips, ribs, legs, but not Out of Form. His trying to take speckies & crashes over his own players. If l was coach  ;D he would be sitting with the sub jacket on with a stick of pine up his clacker

while i see very little of the vfl i have a very good source who suggests to me hes a notch above most who play there each week.
he was very good on the weekend and with just 5 games to go its time to see what these blokes have to offer or even just to give them  a go at afl level.

what have we to lose jackson is a supposed big bodied inside player whos been even worse than normal the worst that can happen is contin performs at jacksons level which is pretty poor.

the same sort of thing can be said for post/mcguane in fact all those ive picked are like for like replacements on those who i picked to drop.

RICHMOND - In the Mix

Fresh from the bye, the Tigers face a major challenge as they head to Perth on the weekend to meet the in-form Eagles. Chris Newman has been ruled out for at least a month with a knee injury, while Jayden Post, Tom Hislop, Jeromey Webberley and Mitch Farmer were the best players for Coburg in the VFL.

RICHMOND

ON THE BLOCK: Skipper Chris Newman will miss with a knee injury.

ON THE CUSP: Diddly squat is banging on the door in the VFL.

MICHAEL WARNER’S FORECAST: West Coast at Subiaco could get ugly. But in these times of TANKING, four more losses could see the Tigers slip as low as 15th, securing pick eight in the national draft.
