might be Richmond bound as an assistant ;)

The club will hold a media conference in due course to announce Fremantle’s new coach. The timing and location of the media conference will be confirmed via media alert.
All media are advised that there will be no further comment from the club until the media conference.
Does this mean they already have a replacement?
-
please-NO!
This guy is an a grade moron that runs on mix of delusion and obstinate.
He has mileage, from which imo he has learnt nothing.
Hardwick and this guy? -stuff off.

Ross Lyon to coach Freo ?
Or Rocket Eade?
-
Once you have coached for 5 years and achieved nothing, they should be delisted by the AFL
and made to hand in their senior coaching license.
Great just heard confirmation on Harvey....lost the last 7 in a row!
Gotta grab this guy :thumbsup

FREMANTLE has sensationally sacked coach Mark Harvey, effective immediately.
The club sent out a media release late on Thursday stating Harvey - who has been senior coach since 2008 after taking over as caretaker when Chris Connolly resigned with seven rounds to play in 2007 - would not continue as senior coach in 2012.

IMO I would of just gave Harvey another year. This year they was to crippled with injury to read much into.

Wouldnt surprised me if he was hanging out at the airport on the chance to run into any coach or assistant coach heading over to W.A.

Just amazing in this day of wall to wall media coverage that not one journo in either Melbourne or Perth caught wind of this before the news broke.

5-year deal for Lyon
http://www.sportsnewsfirst.com.au/articles/2011/09/15/lyon-to-replace-harvey-at-fremantle/
-
This actually sounds a bit like what happened with us when KB was sacked as coach. We went after the more proven coach in Allan Jeans while KB was still our coach and once we got him it was thanks KB good-bye. Freo's Board must have been wooing Lyon for a while to convince him and now they've got their man it was good-bye Harvey.
Smart move by Lyon if he wants to be a career coach even though he'll be called disloyal. He knows like everyone else does that the Saints are gone and are going to need a full rebuild. It would only damage his coaching reputation if he remained with St Kilda.
-
Apparently deal done 5 weeks ago.
Lyon approached Fremantle and they jumped at him.
Ordinary from both Freo and Lyon.

I know Lyon has got runs on the board when it comes to getting a team into grand finals.
But its still poor form to ditch the man(Harvey) they've(fremantle board) backed to get the job done after just being approached by Lyon.
-
Fremantle have a top 6 list. They had the worst run of injury Ive ever seen in my time and the bloke gets the sack. What a joke.
Enjoy playing rubbish football Freo. Will take 2 seasons to adapt and by then the list will be too old.
Wrong move.

:thumbsup Totally agree. Very Very harsh on Harvey. Low act by the board just to sack him because a grand finalist coach has approached them.
-
Lyon did the deal behind his managements back, who also manage Harvey.
So Lyons management have sacked the snake Lyon for doing his won business.
Unbelievable.
-
Be interesting to see how Ross coaches them. Does he put in a boring slow crowd the defence game plan that helped the saints cover there deficits in there list or does he allow Freo's list to play to there full potential and free them up more.

stuff Harvey!
Been there for years and still cant coach out a season proper.

It's going to be harder to play that lock down high stoppage gameplan on the big Subiaco ground.

LOL at Grant Thomas - "St Kilda has a history of inventing ways to stuff up!"
So true :rollin.

Haha Grant Thomas is brilliant with saying line like that. Can't wait to hear it from him on FC.
Appointing an interim coach is abit of a joke. Surely the assistant coaches could of worked together with the list manager through trade and draft period.
-
The one that has been backstabbed is Harvey who had no idea this was coming and was actually working on list management issues today. He had a year to go with his contract at Freo and Freo just tore it up and said Lyon is replacing you.
Footy clubs can be brutal when they want to be.
The management company is/was not only managing Ross Lyon and Harvey but Garry Lyon as well. So all the players in this charade were under the same management.
Ross Lyon getting $5 million over 5 years.
-
The St Kilda president said earlier in the week that Lyon was "man of integrity"
I think not :rollin
-
Ross Lyon is only looking after his family. All of us would have done exactly the same in his position. The guy has probably got a young family and this is his chance to set up his family for life.

And he couldn't do this earning $600k for the last year of this contract and over the next 4 years at probably $700-800k a year
It's not so much that he's quit the Saints it's the back handed way he's gone about it

Its not about integrity its about money and longevity in the game. The moneys fantastic and he leaves the saints as they need to do a proper rebuild, if he had failed he would have been out of the game in 3 or 4 years. This way he gets the massive pay hike, goes to a club where Harvey has made some hard decisions, stays in the game for atleast 5 years and if he has a proper exit strategy again could see stay in the game for atleast another 10 years. Its all about money and longevity and I cant blame him. The saints have always been a rabble and they will be rabble again soon.

hang on a sec here wasnt the Saints the one who stabbed Blighty in the back.
As far as im concerned they can get stuffed, i think lyon did the right thing just like scully and anyone else who leaves for money because your career can be cut short, and clubs can dump you in a second so while you have a chance you have to grab it.
In Lyon's case i think he left because of the money and all that but also because they the Saints are a pathetic cultureless club who have got exactly what they deserved. They were stalling and he said well stuff you im off.
Harvey copped it but its no worse than any other coach who was dumped. Only difference is he had no warning but its happened before and it will happen again.
-
these idiots have been stabbing each other in the back since the game started.
Nothing has changed - They just get paid more now
-
Interesting to see how each playing group reacts. Will all Freo players like the fact Harvey is gone and Lyon is coming in? Saint players on twitter are in shock.
-
Btw the Saints will now need to change their slogan "Fortius quo fidelius" (strength through loyalty) to "infirmitate per insidias" (weakness through treachery) :yep
Or how about "sumus patheticus ipsum dolor uictores in unum measly premiership super centum annos"
Or "Victus ipsum dolor viginti sex uictores nos a lignea acetabula"
Or "tribus annis in dolor eu felis chokers ideo dumped dolor victo, quae nos pro themate carmen umquam pessimus"
;D
-
How about
"It's not .... if you got a BOG that day"
Edit: As we have said before, even if it's posted in jest, inferring something that hasn't been proven in court can put OER legally at risk.

I just checked Dockerland and Saintsational forums. Both set of supporters are going nuts over this lol.
Saints fans are blaming the appoint of Chris Pelcham 7 weeks ago who was put above Lyon in the pecking order of their footy dept. Maybe coincidence but Lyon supposedly signed with Freo 5 weeks ago.
"Even by the low standard of competency Steve Harris has set himself, Fremantle members and football followers alike have been shocked by his latest buffoonery, sacking Mark Harvey as coach of the Fremantle Football Club. Mark Harvey, who took over the job after Chris Connolly stepped aside in 2007 still had a year to run on his contract but was given the Freo Steve-Ho after an injury plagued season saw the Dockers miss the finals. Ross Lyon is tipped to take up the job, after his sudden departure from St Kilda today, with the Fremantle administration getting around to fronting the media sometime on Friday, presumably after they run out of Crayfish tails at the Atrium buffet table. More to come. "

The Saints have made Robert Harvey interim coach. Maybe they'll go after Mark Harvey in panic and it'll be another Northey/Walls scenario which ended badly for both in the end.
As for where Lyon can take Freo from here - their current lis is good enough to make the bottom 2-3 spots of the top 8 given they play 11 home games at Subi. They would've got in this year ahead of the Bombers if they didn't cop so many injuries. Next year depends on how long the Freo players take to adjust to Lyon's :sleep gameplan. It took the Saints a year or two to adjust when Lyon took over from Grant Thomas.

St Kilda just had their press conference. They said a lot without saying nothing. The only thing they admitted was up to 5.30pm yesterday they had believed Lyon was staying at St Kilda.
Freo's press conference at midday Perth time I believe.

Played with a straight bat.
They are obviously in damage control and have taken the 'say little' path to promote an image that the club isn't a train wreck, probably to ensure members don't jump off and appear as a respectable club to possible coaching candidates.
Sheesh.....
INTERESTING FACT: - As of next year, all top 6 clubs of 2010 will have replaced their senior coaches. It sure is an a$$-about time in football history!
-
First question to Lyon at his press conference with Freo.
Do you feel you stabbed Harvey in the back.
His answer he just dribbles the career coach line.
-
Yep Lyon pretty much put the blame on Freo and washed his hands of what happened to Harvey.
Ruthless efficiency comes to mind with Lyon in that press conference. The media were hostile especially the WA journos but Lyon had an answer for every question. Basically blamed St Kilda for hanging off for months and not giving the terms he wanted until Wednesday this week. The reality is there was a out clause in his contract and he knows St Kilda are shot given their ageing list so he bailed.
http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-premiership/new-fremantle-coach-ross-lyon-tells-media-that-he-leaves-afl-rivals-st-kilda-with-his-head-held-high/story-e6frf3e3-1226138982469?from=public_rss
The interesting thing now is if a few Saints follow. Goddard is the obvious one.
-
I feel Harvey has been hard done by. But the way the media works these days Lyon only had to face the heat today at his press conference by Monday the media would of moved on. But for Lyon his set himself up for coaching a finals list that could be a real contender for a flag in the next 4 years.

Tough gig coaching
-
Harvey you would reckon would be able to get another gig in footy even if he has to go back to being an assistant coach first. Although Freo used a lack of preseason preparation as an excuse to sack him you would think most people thought he had done a good job developing Freo's kids and that injuries crueled Freo this year.

A poison chalice for the one who gets the gig. A smart current assistant coach will do his best to avoid the Saints' job. Coaching St Kilda over the next 5 years will be a coach killer as most of their top players are oldies and there's very little youth coming through. Like us in Spud's final years and when Wallace took over.
