Mark Harvey sacked / Ross Lyon new Freo coach

I feel Harvey has been hard done by. But the way the media works these days Lyon only had to face the heat today at his press conference by Monday the media would of moved on. But for Lyon his set himself up for coaching a finals list that could be a real contender for a flag in the next 4 years.

Harvey you would reckon would be able to get another gig in footy even if he has to go back to being an assistant coach first. Although Freo used a lack of preseason preparation as an excuse to sack him you would think most people thought he had done a good job developing Freo's kids and that injuries crueled Freo this year.

It appears everyone is jumping the sinking St Kilda ship - Lyon bails to Freo, fitness 'guru' Misson to Melbourne, and now assistant coach Peter Berbakov told the club last week he was going back to Sydney.

Saints announce Coaching selection panels.

It consists of CEO Michael Nettlefold, head of football Chris Pelchen, director and past player Nathan Burke and left-field choice Claire Prideaux, former Hockeyroo and now Sport manager of coaching, athletic and program services for the NSW Institute of Sport.

The selection panel will be assisted by a specialist advisory group consisting of:
Former AFL player Brad Johnson, Coles boss Ian McLeod who "will advise on commercial matters" and  former AFLPA psychologist, Pippa Grange "who will advise on people, culture and leadership matters".

A poison chalice for the one who gets the gig. A smart current assistant coach will do his best to avoid the Saints' job. Coaching St Kilda over the next 5 years will be a coach killer as most of their top players are oldies and there's very little youth coming through. Like us in Spud's final years and when Wallace took over.
