Didn't you see him in this morning's HUN with Edwards modelling the Dreamtime jumper? Photo shoot was only done yesterday ;D

Back at full training will need a few weeks of that before he can play
And....
Good to see Astbury named in the ressies. Whitten Oval is pretty good nick at the minute so he will be playing on a good surface

Some commentary from poster RodneyDangerfield on BF:
First quarter
"Post and griffiths playing back. Browne drops under 10 mark"
"Getting flogged griffiths and post have had heaps of it. Griffiths kicking however leaving post for dead."
Connors he believes kicked one of our goals in the first quarter.
Second quarter
"Obviously post and gruff are in a shoot out for grimes spot.
I'll go early- Post just blew it when webberley handballs to him right in front of coaches. He had to wait whilst players closed and absolutely poo himself and dropped it. He knew it too. Right in front of me.
Derryckx is presenting well up forward this term but hit the post and didn't get the distance another. Very little boys kick for a big big man. Addam Maric is a non entity and white going well. Same old. Score 10.4.64 to 3.3.21. Maric finds Connors who goals again. 4.3.27"
"Just quickly Connors another. Looks very very interested."

Rodney Dangerfield on BF's half-time summary has Connors and Griffiths as our most likely ins next week. A great chase by Griffs apparently on one of Willy's small forward speedsters.

From Rodney Dangerfield on BF:
This o'hanlon character is on our primary list is that right?
Natural forward, knows where to go,nice set of hands but importantly a very good kick. Has 2 this quarter one from a lovely 50 metre kick and the other a strong mark, post ran forward for one also score is 16.5 to 9.4, now white just kicked a lovely goal.
Arnoy good in traffic at least and Griffiths made another outstanding chase and tackle. He is seriously seriously quick.
Addam Maric been good too bit more polish than king but needs his little brothers grunt.

Coburg lost by 59 points.
Coburg 2.1 6.3 10.4 12.10-82
Williamstown 8.3 11.4 17.5 22.9-141

we are screaming out for a decent medium sized forward, decent small forward as well. o hanlon could play the third tall role even at 189 and good in the air. we have nothing to lose here to get better and not have so much reliance on too few we must continue to seek young players who could do a job for us.
-
From BF:
"Graham has had quite a good day."
"For the Connors fans.... Well it's Dan Connors it ain't changing.
In third o'hanlon marked 55 out set shot 45 degrees and Connors spat it because O'Hanlon wouldn't pass to him standing still in a dead pocket.
This kid just had one thing in mind and went bang with Connors still sooking.
Not long after Connors thought he took a mark but Post had been paid a free in meantime as post kicks goal poor Dan laments his bad luck.
Now in last he goes one handed."
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showpost.php?p=24272492&postcount=490
Griffiths remained in defence all day. Post went forward in the last quarter.
-
Watched the first 3 qtrs. Very poor game, no gut running by Coburg.
As for the RFC boys; White good, Gus OK, Griffiths as aback OK, Post well huge opportunity and just wasn't aggressive enough. Ditto Griffiths for blokes they just aren't aggrieved enough IMHO

Arnott rolled his ankle in a one on one contest in the 3rd. He had it strapped and was doing run throughs on the boundary just before the siren.
Elton is impressive as is O'Hanlon. Elton IMO needs to lead more, he seems to have pace but I don't think he uses it enough.
Mini Maric was disappointing ran himself into trouble a bit.
Derikx - not sure what role they are wanting him to play to be honest. Played mainly forward but contested well but doesn't take enough of them in contested situations IMO.
I'd seriously look at playing Griffiths next week. We need size down back and he played like he wanted to play seniors next week most of the time. Unfortunately cannot say the same about Post.

Ok, it's settled - Griff for Grimes :thumbsup

There doesnt really seem to be any other option.
God i hope they dont do something like bring vickery back in and send miller down back.
-
WP - we hear that Griff uses the ball really well out of defence, did you see this today?
Also, how is his spoiling and one on one in defence?
-
Connors: was OK. Kicked goals when he had the opportunities but I don.t know why they didn't play him in the middle a bit just to try something different
Not enough gut running and spread by Coburg.
Wright & Darrou ,both played and they show a bit but are a long way off from AFL
Browne was ok as well. He & Gus shared the ruck duties. Browne though seems to run harder than Gus though when it came to dropping back
WP - we hear that Griff uses the ball really well out of defence, did you see this today?

Agree with that he makes good decisions. And his spoiling was good. Only worry was that at times he stood back and was slow to react when he needed to go in and help. Only did it couple of times but he needs to get better at it. Good sign was his work in packs showed no fear or worry about his shoulders. Can take a contested grab too

if he is slow to react in the VFL then we dont want him in the AFL. Good news he got through the game. Many more games & he might be right for AFL

Saw a game at a venue that to me seemed straight out of stalinist Russia...Anyone who bags our facilities should go and check this monstrocity out.sticks out like an eyesore ,and seems poorly built too.
Anyway back to the game..graham battled hard in the ruck and seems to have discovered a mean streak too.saw him crash a few packs.Mini maric got a fair bit of the ball and has good skills, however for mine just doesnt do enough off the ball.White was ok without starring.Connors competed well and at times his skills are sublime.Further to what the other guys here said ,i saw Connors spit the dummy on the boundary line ,to the point where the coburg coach had to come over and have a chat to him.Dont know what the isssue was ,however Daniel appeared to not be a happy camper.Griff was ok without starring, and post too was similar, although griff does appear to have more of a football brain than Posty.darou and piva seem along way off .Elton does everything right ,and is coming along.Arnott was ok ,but nothing more.
Browne tries hard and works hard ,but just lacks some polish.dont know who i left out but the others were meh.
As a side note .At half time was in their canteen area under the stand (whose roof seems like its way too low) and a gentleman in front of me ordered a cup of tea. When he turned around it was t shirt tommy who was watching the game with his lovely wife.and oh by the way who is the real coach of coburg is it potter or jake king(ha ha ha ha)jake seemed to be doing lots of pointing and directing traffic from the boundary line.
-
What about o hanlon you are only one who hasnt mentioned him :huh
-
I got to the game today and I walked away even more depressed then last night because I don't believe this Coburg situation is working at all.
Conners was very good up forward in my opinion and should be considered for senior selection. He gave Coburg something that Richmond lacks, and that is a leading marking medium forward.
Post was ok but not the best game he has played for Coburg. However I don't think his performance today was his fault and I will touch on that later. He looks very fit to me and should be playing seniors in my opinion. He has a lot more to offer us then Miller!
Piva is a competitor and tries hard but he turns it over constantly by foot.
Dourou see Piva
Maric was lively but he never goes near a hard contest. He reminds me of the boundry rider Cam Howat. At AFL level he would be a liability because of his unwillingness to put his body on the line. He did play well today but I would not play him at AFL level.
Webberly was very average today. He just couldn't get into the contest and was pushed aside like a junior at times. Gone at end of this year IMHO.
Elton was ok. He is developing well and I liked what I saw at times today especially when he was sent to the backline. He will be a very good player for Richmond in a few years if we don't ruin him first.
O'Hanlon show he is a class player and will debut towards the end of the year if we fall out finals contention. I would have Conners well ahead of him at the moment to play that similar role of a medium forward.
Griffiths played well and in fact probably the best I've seen him play for Coburg or Richmond. The problem is that he looks really unfit and was out on his feet at times. He was cramping up badly in the last quarter. Based on his fitness, surely he could not be considered for the seniors next week.
White was typical of Matt White. Flashy around the contest and gave his all. He is one player that always turns up to play hard for the club.
Graham, Browne and Derickx were all reasonable without starring. Graham was probably the best of the bunch.
Arnot looks tough but I doubt he will ever be a consistant AFL player. He is like a Pittbull trying to compete against Greyhounds.
Ferrier is just totally out of his depth. I can't see why we selected this guy.
Now for my beef with Coburg and Richmond which relates to the development of our key talls. There are a few issues here that I would like to point out.
If we are goiing to try and develop players who are natural forwards by teaching them to play as defenders what is the point of doing this if your going to make them play as a unaccountable third tall defender. Any flogg can sit back in the hole and cut off the ball as it gets bombed in. If you are going to teach them defence then make them lock down their opponent and play the position properly as a Key defender should.
SO WHY WOULD WE PLAY POST AND AT TIMES GRIFFITHS AS UNACCOUNTABLE DEFENDERS??????? TO TEACH THEM??
The answer to why we do this is because we are just plain and simply clueless! We will just fail to develop them via our own Richmond stupidity and then delist them in a years time because they didn't make it. Just like Schulz! Then another AFL side will then pick them up and turn them into the players they should be and that is natural key forwards.
The other point I want to make is why are we playing 3 ruckman in the one team. The extra ruckmen is getting in the way of developing the likes of Elton, Post and Griffiths. Today they just kept on getting in the way of the marking contests.
The last point I would like to make is that in my opinion this arrangement with Coburg is just not working. I just don't believe the Coburg set up is an effective way for us to develop our kids. I just don't see the right teaching methods nor do I see enough professional development. Compared to Geelong system which I have seen first hand we are just miles off the mark.
-
Hi Bo....yep you are right i didnt mention O hanlon...have to plead ignorance on that one didnt have record so didnt really know who he was
-
I share the frustration crack in taking many of our drafted forwards into defence. I can only assume playing as third in is teaching to read play and perhaps get them more involved than otherwise would in a lock down mode
-
Well done cracker. Great job.
The situation is stupid because we don't have a stand alone reserves team.
With your own team you develop them exactly how you want and when there's a need in the seniors they slot straight in to play the role they've been developed in.
We were supposed to do this asap but now we have signed with coburg for more years of mediocre development with the stupid situation that we have.

"we were supposed to do this ASAP" ? Er NO go back to the original posts when the FTF was launched and a stand alone VFL side was not at the top of the list. It was at number 4 or 5. Club made it very clear, debt first, investment in recruiting & development, being able to 100% of the cap & making sure we in a strong position for free agency were at the top of the list. Then it was stand alone VFL side.
The other thing you don't seem to realise or want to acknowledge is the fact that the club can not just say one day "we are fielding our own team next year"? They have to be issued with a license by AFL Victoria and AFL Vic have said that they don't plan on handing any new ones out outside of the bombers for 2013 until 2014
-
The club knows that the Coburg situation is not ideal, but until we get rid of our debt it will remain. Can't have a stand alone team if we can't afford it.

Tigers swooped by Seagulls
By Heather Mellican
Coburg website
May 20, 2012
It’s back to the drawing board for Coburg after a 59-point loss against Williamstown at Whitten Oval today, in what has so far been a rollercoaster season.
The Tigers struggled to win the ball with the Seagulls controlling most of the play all day, using their space to create opportunities and taking advantage of Coburg’s turnovers and overuse of the ball.
Despite tightened defensive pressure and composure inside their 50 in the second and third quarters, the Tigers were unable to convert on the scoreboard and gain momentum, with the Seagulls striking back after each scoring opportunity.
Adamm Maric was dominant throughout the game, finishing with 34 disposals. He came up with one of the highlights of Coburg’s day when he set up a great goal for Tom Derickx by running the ball all the way from half back.
Matt White was also hard at it, picking up 23 disposals and laying seven tackles and clearing the ball in the midfield to create inside 50 opportunities for the Tigers on multiple occasions.
Brett O’Hanlon also had sticky fingers, taking 12 marks and proving to be a standout with 17 disposals and two goals. Jayden Post (16 disposals and one goal) and Angus Graham (18 disposals) also provided some positives for Coburg, as did Daniel Connors who was able to play out most of the game upon return from injury and pick up four goals.
Although Coburg lifted in the second half of the third quarter, creating more centre clearances with the help of fast paced Willie Wheeler and winning the inside 50’s with a more controlled forward line with the usual forward pressure from Nick Carnell, they couldn’t hold on in the last quarter.
The Tigers ran out of legs as Williamstown ran away with it, restricting the Tigers to only two goals in the final term.
Williamstown debutant, Anthony Anastasio proved unstoppable with his pace, as he ran on top of Coburg, picking up five goals and creating multiple opportunities in the Seagulls forward line.
Coburg will have two weeks off and will be hoping to get their season back on track when they take on Bendigo in Shepparton in Round 11.

so it seems once again post went forward and had some impact.
surely the time has come to leave him there?
-
Has O'Hanlon been playing 3rds prior to this game? If so, why? He sounds like a very promising player.
-
With abit of luck O'Hanlon can be developed into a very decent HFF
-
O'Hanlon has put on some size since I last seen him.
Maric 34 disposals wow. I bet the were all uncontested possessions :lol
-
Well he's not stuffing Shane Tuck is he? He is an outside goal sneak. Not a ball winner.

You really don't get it do you.... :banghead :banghead
How can they field their own VFL side without the proper funds? Do you have any idea how much it costs an AFL club to field its own VFL side? The licence fee on its own is about 3 times more that what the Coburgs of this world. Or do you simply ignore these little facts because it doesn't suit your case :huh.
You'd be the first person complaining if the club went further into debt to do this
Unless of course you are going to pay for it? Got spare $$400-500k (that's the price the Cats have put on running their VFL saide) have you :huh ::)

Development coach Greg Mellor's summary of how each Richmond-listed player performed at Coburg against Williamstown....
Seniors
Todd Elton
Had a quiet game, but this level of inconsistency is quite common with developing, young players. From a positive perspective, he spent some time as a key defender and learned about playing on other key forwards.
Matt Arnot
Played on a wing and through half-forward, but didn’t have as much impact as he’s had in other games this season. Kicked a good, long goal before coming off during the third quarter with a minor ankle injury.
Brett O’Hanlon
Continued his good form, improving further on the previous week’s effort. Collected 18 possessions and took 12 marks in his role on the wing and half-forward. His two goals capped of a really pleasing performance.
Jeromey Webberley
Did not perform up to his typical high standard and didn’t have his usual impact. Has been playing sore, however, so the break has come at a good time for him to give his body some rest.
Adam Maric
Was back to his best. Collected 34 touches through the midfield and was one of the best players. Had the opportunity to kick a couple of goals, but missed chances he would normally take.
Ben Griffiths
Returned from injury and had a good game as a key defender. Showed that his decision-making and kicking skills are elite. Is an important player in Richmond’s future plans.
Ben Darrou
Continued his consistent form. Finished with 18 possessions in his role across half- back and, generally, made good decisions. Is working hard in the gym and turning into one very big unit.
Piva Wright
Another young player who also is improving each week and showing creativity off half-back. Played as a key defender against Williamstown and did a good job in keeping his opponent under control.
Matt White
Maintained his impressive level of consistency, with 23 possessions, seven tackles and two goals. His intensity and hard running are real assets and he continues to put pressure on for selection at AFL level.
Angus Graham
Another strong display. He collected 18 possessions, took 10 marks and had 36 hit- outs. Is in very good touch, and ready to take his AFL opportunity when it arises.
Jayden Post
Had a solid game at stuff. Kept his opponent under control for the most part and provided some good offensive rebound. Went forward in the last quarter and kicked a goal.
Dan Connors
Produced a good, four-quarter effort. Kicked 4.2 and was clearly the team’s best forward. Hopefully, he has overcome the niggling injuries that have been restricting him in recent weeks and he can play consistent games of this standard over the next few weeks, to put pressure on for AFL selection.
Andrew Browne
Had a quieter game. Spent more time forward than in the ruck and competed very strongly, but didn’t have the same impact as he’s had.
Tom Derickx
Tom played back-up ruck in the senior side this week and took four really strong, contested marks. Has the potential to be a very talented player, and we look forward to him building on this performance.
Steve Verrier
Was promoted to Coburg seniors after a couple of strong weeks in the development side. Came in and played his role, spending time at half-back and on a wing. Looked composed and confident. We expect him to build on this performance and play some exciting football over the next couple of weeks.
Development
Dave Astbury
Was great to see him finally return to the playing field last weekend after such a long absence with a serious knee injury. Many of the Richmond players were there to watch their popular teammate play his first game in nearly a year. He played through the wing and midfield, during a modified three quarters of game time, just to run around and find the footy.

Yes, credit where credit's due.
